From the mind of a Mad Man - Nov 22 2k6
Would someone please tell me how my darling little girl got a boys number? She's ... well ... no damn it!. She's not supose to have inherited that from me she's supose to be innocent and cute. She's not supose to be getting boy's phonenumber's yet, or at all. Aren't little girls supose to think boy's have cooties exept for their daddys? Why then?

She's never dating. Ever.

Though at least she's making friends. She can't spend all her time with either set of twins. That would just get borring after a while and i cant have my princess bored.

Maybe i should take her shopping. It's almost holiday season and she's getting bigger so i should buy her some new things, maybe a new dress for dinner with the family, and see what she wants for christmas. It shouldnt be Thanksgiving already, it was just Halloween.

I've still got to figure out what the family is doing for the holidays. Hatter and Skye will probably be having some big family get-to-gether somewhere. That means presents and things. Zoe need's new toys and new cloths and maybe a pet if i can convince Chesh to let her have one, besides her little fish.

He cleared his throat as he pressed the button down on the recorder, begining to speak soon after, "December first... Two-thousand and six.

"I had no idea that Skye had as much room as she did in her kitchen for so many people. Everyone was there... Everyone. The entire family. All crammed around one table.

"It was wonderful. The food was delicious and there were many laughs to be had. It was good spending time with family again. I love the holodays.

"Speaking of... On Monday I'm going to drag Cian to go pick out a Christmas tree. I want to make Zoe's first Christmas a memorable one... Our second Christmas as a married couple; our first as a family. I'd like a big tree... With lots of decorations and a beautiful star on top...

"Maybe we can get some lights to put around the windows!

"I'm going to make a list now... I'll check back in later."

For an hour now he'd been watching the two of them; his husband stringing popcorn carefully onto a thread only for Zoe to pluck the piece off of the end and pop it into her mouth. She was ruining her appetite, of course, but he was more entertained simply waiting to see when Cian would notice that he hadn't gotten very far at all with his chain. Eventually he stooped down, taking a seat on the floor next to his daughter, "You know... You'll never have enough to wrap around the tree if you keep eating each piece that your father strings."

She bit down on her lower lip, giving the other feline her best 'innocent' look before flashing him a smile that he was certain was warm enough to melt the ice that had gathered on the living room windows. Winter was here... Christmas was only a day away. Their first Christmas together as a family. Together.

Together they threaded the rest of the popcorn, Cheshire guiding the pieces down the string along with Zoe, the allure of eating the popcorn having worn off. Together they took the chain, hanging it from branches to decorate their already beautiful tree. Together he and Cian lifted the little lady, holding her high so she could place the angel on the top of the tree.

Together they took Zoe back to her room, each taking turns reading a page from the book she'd insisted they read night after night until 'Santa' appeared. Together they tucked her in, each pressing a kiss to her forehead before turning off the light, letting the soft glow of hundreds of stars shine down from the ceiling. "Goodnight, Princess..."

T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...

"... December twenty-fourth, nine pm, Easter Standard Time."

The sound of wrapping paper crinkling could be heard in the backround.

"We've just come home from dinner with the family that we've made out of those who live in this building along with us... Cian's boss, Gavin, and his beautiful young lover, Kyla, along with her brother, Tavis, and his boyfriend, Ari, and their roommates, Evan and Michael. Blithe was there, of course, as was a man by the name of Steel who reminds me a bit too much of my husband.

"Dinner was delicious. Kyla is a wonderful cook to begin with but everyone brought their own treat to the table to make it all the better. Turkey, stuffing, gravy, so many different kinds of potatos, corn, beans... It's a wonder I can still fit into the pants that I'm wearing as I sit here wrapping presents... Nevermind the pullstring waistband.

"While Zoe 'helped' Cian unwrap some early presents under the tree I managed to strike a deal with Gavin. Tomorrow morning he'll be slipping into our home to deliver presents dressed as none other than the jolly old elf himself. Santa will be coming to see our little one through her first Christmas! Who knew he had such a soft spot for the small ones?

"No matter, there is wrapping still to be done... I will make certain to make a record of tomorrows events as well.

"Cheshire, out."

They grow up so fast...

Time was known to fly when one was having fun... Time was also known to freeze on certain moments, keeping them forever locked in a vault where they could be revisited from time to time; times like now.

He smiled as he flipped through the pages of the photo album. Pictures... They had taken so many pictures since he'd come to live with Cian, even more so since Zoe's arrival. There were pictures of the happy couple, pictures of he and Blithe, pictures of Cian down at the bar with Vyn. There were pictures of family, pictures of friends... Pictures of every moment leading up to this one. This very moment.

Today had been a day to mark down in the books. Zoe had come home from school with a bright smile on her face; a first, all things considered. She had rambled on for a good fifteen minutes before disappearing. He had thought that she was going to her room but he realized that he had been wrong in thinking that. Not to her own room... But to the room above theirs; the room where things had been kept in storage.

He had found her sitting on the floor beside an open chest; one that he had brought with him from his first home. It had several things in there that he had forgotten... More pictures, old clothing... And a hat.

He had paused beside her for a moment, picking up the hat to trail his fingers along the brim. Even after all of these years no dust had settled on it. It was still a good hat... Everything in the chest was still in proper order; everything as he had remembered it to be.

He had smiled, dropping the hat onto her head with a chuckle before heading back downstairs... And this was where he had found himself; looking at old pictures.

He glanced up after hearing a voice in he doorway, brow lofting slightly. A smile curved his lips as he saw his daughter standing there wearing his old jeans and one of Cian's old hats.

"... Will you tell me how you met Daddy?"

"It is the third day of the second month of the year two-thousand and eight." Soft laughter could be heard following the announcement of the date.

"I have never found as much fondness in remembering the past as I found today discussing the forming of our family with my daughter... How I met my husband, how we came to live here... How she blessed us by coming into our life, as unexpected as that was..." A soft sigh.

"It is a good thing to, every now and then, look back at one's roots. Without them we would not be who we are... And I would not change who I am for the world.

"I am a lucky man; one graced with the blessings of a darling husband and a beautiful daughter and an amazing extended family formed from adoptions and friendships.

"I only hope that, one day, Zoe comes to have the sort of deep, bonding friendships that Cian and I were lucky enough to come across.

"Time truly does fly, doesn't it?"

Dear Journal,

I never thought that I would be the one sitting here writing... But I think it starts growing on you in a way. I have been practicing more, just as I'd said I would. I think that my writing has gotten better and some of my teachers have too.

School...

School isn't as bad as I thought it was, I guess. It still isn't wonderful or awesome or fantastic or spectacular... But we're learning. We learned about synonyms today, for example. I am learning all sorts of new words because of it.

We also talked about families and how, especially around here, everyone's family is different. I know that mine is. I have two fathers instead of a mother and a father... And an aunt who lives with us. Blithe is nice though and I couldn't ask for better parents...

Except for when I have to eat vegetables when I don't want to.

Other than that I am happy here. It was nice talking to my father today about how he met daddy and how our family came to be. It was nice knowing that no matter what I will always have a place here... Even if I start getting taller than him.

I think I might be taller than him by the time I stop growing. I've grown another two whole inches since last time! Blithe says that she will take me shopping soon. I guess that will be nice but only if I can keep some of the things that I found in the attic too... Like Daddy's hat and Father's pants.

They look better on me anyways.

Am I really growing too fast? Or am I growing just right?
