Eight forms of attack and seven defense? Emil just hoped he could remember all of these things. It was a lot to take in all at once, and he was certain that they were no where near done yet. The blonde counted off the different points as well, repeating them in muffled tons as he used his fingers to count them off, reverting them to memory.
He then watched Luke again as he demonstrated, and followed in his own swings just after his teacher's.
"Head, left shoulder, right shoulder..." Emil verbally reciting the different areas as he went, too. Although with these new swings, he started to forget about his stance and it faltered a bit.

Luke observed, listening and watching as Emil paired name with motion. He wasn't doing badly, especially considering it was his first time holding such a weapon, let alone using it. As the younger boy proceeded, Luke eventually noticed a shift in his stance, and he raised a hand slightly to attract his companion's attention, "Watch your form. It's not that important when you're just doing drills like this, but you want to make it a kind of reflex at this stage so you don't have to stop to think about it later on."

"Oh! Sorry," Emil quickly apologized as Luke pointed out that he'd faltered on his form. Right.. gotta concentrate on that. And so he did. Although it proved a little difficult for him to focus on that and swinging at the same time as his swing started to suffer a bit for it. The blonde boy striving to keep his form as he practiced the different forms of attack that Luke had just showed him.

"Take it easy," Luke recommended. "Don't worry about moving slower if it helps you keep your movements right. The important part is the muscle memory." It was strange to teach swordsmanship; he found himself more or less quoting his own master, reaching back into his memories to pull forward terms and phrases and advice that had helped him when he was learning. Thus far it seemed Emil was doing well; he was either a quick learner or Luke was a good teacher, and he preferred to pride himself a little by believing in the latter even if the former was more true.

"Oh, okay," Emil said at Luke's recommendation and started slowing down his swings. He had to admit though, his sword was starting to feel pretty heavy and the muscles in his arms started burning. Even if he was a quick learner, his endurance was practically zero. Thus his swings started slowing more and more, eventually getting more sloppy as well.
After a couple more moments he stopped, breathing heavily. "This... is really... hard." Luke made it look so easy the few time he'd seen Luke practice with his sword.

Luke remained silent even as he noticed the blows falling from form. It was a difficult practice, and even simple movements qualified as exercise in their own right with the addition of the weight of a weapon. Once Emil surrendered, though, he offered a response, "Yeah, it's not the sort of thing you can just get good at overnight, even if you pick up all the technical stiff quickly. It's even harder if you're not really used to physical stuff. You get used to it if you keep at it, though."

At this point Emil was bent over with his hands on his knees, still trying to catch his breath. The poor kid was really out of shape. "I just need to practice... right?" He finally looked back up at Luke with a hopeful expression. Surely he would get better at this with time. Maybe Luke would even let him practice with him and they could train together and get better. Maybe he could actually be good at something for once.

"Yeah," Luke replied with a thumbs-up of approval. "It's easy to get fed up with it and quit, but as long as you practice there's no reason you can't get good at it. You're already doing better than a lot of beginners." A lot of beginners being the only beginner Luke had ever encountered - himself. No need to go into detail on that, though.

A few minutes later, Emil finally caught his breath and was standing straight again. There was a small smile on his face though at Luke's encouraging words.
"O-okay... I.. I can do this. I think. Just gotta... keep practicing."
With his dwindling spirits renewed, Emil got into position and started swinging once again. His mouth set in determination, he was ready to keep trying until he got it right. He would get into shape yet. Hopefully.
