Clerise wheezed with laughter. "Okay, okay. Fair enough, dude." She laid on the floor, content. This way, she could ignore the big, wide ocean out there, waiting for her. "I've only been here...about one month to the day." She gave a weak grin. "But I don't think I was really normal before I came here-- you know, it's been...kind of cathartic, really." "I used to be real mad, but it's a lot easier to let it go when I know what I saw for ages was real." Prolixity omg i didnt even realize it was on me sry

Jordan rested his elbows on the table. "I've been awake - damn, almost a year now." He sounded a little surprised. "Feels like forever and no time at all." Ferros stirred in his mind, purred wordless affection; his eyes unfocused briefly and he smiled before bringing himself back to the outside world. "I tried pretty hard to be normal. It's a relief not to have to try so hard at something I'm so bad at." He chuckled.

"A year?" Wow. That seemed like a long time, given the...
Nature of their job.
Jordan looked so...content. He was one of the few hunters she'd seen that looked genuinely happy with life, including life with his weapon.
She was jealous.

"I didn't really worry. Only child, mom split, dad tried hard so it meant I could be a brat and he'd love me anyway." A grin twisted her mouth. "And then I joined the circus. I guess I was normalish there? I mean, I wasn't part of our little Freak Show, soooo..." Clerise snickered with a shrug.

"Yeah, I hadn't really paid attention to how long it had been. I'm doing something useful. Feels good." There was boredom involved, and missions often involved disturbing things or moments of sheer terror, but here, he had a purpose. That made up for a lot.
He listened to her explanation thoughtfully. "I took care of my little brother a lot," he offered. "More when Dad died, and then Mom; Andy was the weird kid, the one who always talked about what he saw, so it was on me to keep him safe and cover for him. Couldn't get noticed too much, or we'd get hauled in to the shrinks and possibly sent off somewhere, and our family didn't need the extra stress." He shrugged. "And I guess I thought that if I wasn't noticed, the shadows wouldn't notice me either. Kind of stupid, but when you don't know what they are and you can't fight back."

She had lived a good life, in comparison. "Fair enough," she said, quiet, sitting up again, debating on giving the dude a hug.
Hell, she did anyway. Clerise stood and leaned over his chair, giving him a quick squeeze of the shoulder. "I hear you. I was in those shrinks, and it probably would've been better had I really been insane." She gave a grin. "Well, more insane, I guess. They were sure I was schizo or something. It was amazing and shitty at the same time to find out I wasn't."

Jordan gave Clerise a smile and lifted a hand to pat the arm she'd slung around his shoulders. "I'm not sure how much I believed myself about the shadows, in all honesty; I knew there was something going on, because Andy could see them too, but I tried pretty hard to pretend there was nothing there, and half-convinced myself sometimes. It was a pretty big relief to find out what was really up."

He was a good guy. Down into his bones, maybe. Clerise was a little jealous.
"I was a little ********' nightmare. It's a wonder my dad survived-- I'd scream at him until he acknowledged that he believed me--" The redhead snickered. "So I screamed myself hoarse half the time."
Sitting back down at her recently abandoned seat, Clerise idly poked at the cards on the table. "It's kinda ******** up to be relieved, but I really am. Especially since I can like, fight them I guess? You know?"

"I was a little brat when I was younger," Jordan said, "but Dad - he didn't want to hear about the shadows. Got really angry if Andy or I said anything about it. Ice cold furious. I still don't know why it made him so mad, but it didn't take us long to stop talking about it to him."
He shook his head. "No, I think that's a perfectly reasonable reaction. Logical, even. You can finally do something about something that's been bothering you all your life."

"Mom would do that," Clerise murmured with a nod. "Her and dad had other problems, but I didn't help." She blamed herself, sure, but it was a wound that was long since healed.
"I tried not to talk until I saw them, but it'd be at the most random places, and me being hysterical usually prompted quuestionss yaadda yadda yadda."
"Yeah. I hope I can kick their ******** asses." Her eyes narrowed. "Bastards."
