Arell sat there on that rock. Mostly smoking and drinking from his hip flask. Yup, by the looks of things, there really couldn't get beyond much worse on how this rescue attempt was going. Sure, GETTING there was the easy part. Why the hell didn't wind up in a situation where there were guards . . . and you could tell who the bad guys were, yeah! Not this BS. Hell, all he did was shoot the lock off, and then BAM! Turns out, girlfriend, the only thing he was . . . okay, he wasn't sure of that either. This screwed-up, botched-up-out-the-a** mission would have had him questioning if he was even right-side-up if it wasn't for the cigarette smoke.

Well, this sucks. Why didn't you just shoot him?! I haven't eaten someone in days!!!! the gator side of him asked, protesting about losing the opportunity to a free meal. Sorry, I normally woulda, but Dr. Dumkoph is Crystal's DAD. the human side reasoned back.

Jesus, 'Rell! One shot. ONE FREAKING SHOT! What's that? Dollar and some change? It'd be the best dime you ever spent killin' that ********. That and with those chemicals in there, we could make it look like an accident." the Gator side argued.

How the HELL do you know how to do that? You're a freakin' REPTILE. You once got us hit over the head for taking a dump on Uncle Levon's floor!! the human side asked. Both personalities were NOT making it very easy.

So? I actually paid ATTENTION to NCIS and CSI Miami. You just did the shades and one-liner schtick. Now move over! If Dr. Dork comes out, I'm driving! If you want a job done . . . the gator side finally spoke up.

Robin no longer had his attention on Tygrus. He had been focused on Arell ever since the Cajun joined them outside, and he didn't blame Abby for being worried and nervous about the situation... something was definitely different about the man.

"Maybe I should wait inside, make sure things stay kosher."

One could take that as "make sure Crystal is still okay"... but at this point, the doctor's position didn't appear to be a promising one with Arell in this mood. Tim revisited the thoughts he had on the boat ride... it's not that he "wasn't trusting" of the man-- they were ultimately on the same team, the same side--, but it wouldn't hurt to be cautious. Robin finally turned his gaze from Arell and looked to Abby and Artemis; he assumed she wanted to go with him.

Abby looked to Tim and nodded, and not just because he was the guy that'd be able to protect her in case her good luck field quit for some reason; she also wanted to meet Dorian and Crystal.

She warily looked over to Tygrus. "Err... I dunno what's wrong with him, and... Stockholm is the capital o' Sweden, and... from what I've heard, 'Stockholm Syndrome' is when a kidnapped person gets sympathetic with whoever kidnapped 'em. Don' know much more about it, though..."

Crystal sat there, going back to staring at the door where Arell both entered and left through. It was complicated how she felt right then. She loved Arell with all her heart but how he acted right then hurt her more than anything, even more than how her father had hurt her as a child.

It was impossible for her to fight the tears any more as they fell down her face. Again she used her arm to wipe them away as she stood up slowly.

She began to stumble down the hallway, doubtful that she'd ever catch up to Arell in the condition she was in.

------

Tygrus nodded to Tim and started walking towards the building, glancing back at Arell before entering the hallway. It wasn't long before the distracted feline bumped into Crystal and caught her. "You should not be up." He sad in a mater-of-factly tone.

She tried to push him aside, only growling slightly in response.

Arell, was also rather upset. He was weighing his options, sitting on the rock and smoking like a chimney. If just by the smoke, some people wouldn't have been sure if that was Arell's cigarette or the smokestack of some wore out steam train. Sure, he looked like a grade-a d**k right now, but he was worried sick when he heard Crystal was in danger. Not many people would risk their asses, break down doors, and be more than prepared to rescue her, but she just didn't want to go! For someone that was kidnapped . . . it had to be Stockholm Syndrome.

He eventually got down to the last of the pack of cigarettes he had on him. Dammit! Well, guess I gotta quit now, that was my last pack! he thought. He remained quiet. Almost emotionless yet solemn as a grave. Inside though, the man was dead as a doornail. It was almost like she didn't want him around to him . . . lesser men in his position would have broken down crying. Nothing. Not even a whimper, even in a man of metaphorical steel, he was showing some cracks from the pressure.

Tim stole a last glance to Arell in his concern before he followed Tyrgus inside. He stopped once Crystal appeared, giving her a startled yet sterned look.

"Catgirl- what happened?"

He was prepared to bring out some shurikens if her answer indirectly demanded them. Robin was of course unaware of the circumstances.

Abby blinked, still behind Tim, as she looked at Crystal curiously. She was Arell's girlfriend? How... strange; Abby certainly wasn't expecting this.

Crystal looked right at Tim and Artemis, who was in Abby's arms. "Hey..." She pushed weakly past Tygrus. Her 'brother' took hold of her arm and tried to help her stay standing.

"You should go back to the table till you have fully recovered."

Crystal yanked her arm away, "F*** OFF!" She roared at the felinoid.

Tygrus backed away, staring at the girl. "She's not very happy."

She walked out the building towards where Arell was.

If C.J. was there at the moment Tygrus said "She's not very happy" he probably looked at the felinoid with a sarcastic "well gee, ya THINK?!" before finishing tuning up his guitar. Probably also say or do something to lighten the tension in the air before the proverbial s**t hit the fan.

Well, this sure didn't happen. I was back at Wayne Manor keeping tabs on Red! (hiya, Legs!!) But damn . . . Arell seemed oddly calm now about the whole situation. Even up to the hell hath no fury like an angry Crystal coming up towards him. Well, our Cajun Jerkass of a "hero" here was now up to his neck in trouble . . . or so he thought.

"I'm gonna need mo' cigarettes." he thought out loud when his eyes met hers.

(Hey hey, C.J. wink )

By the time Crystal passed them, Tim was thoroughly confused. He obviously missed something important, but he had a feeling he'd know very soon what the deal was.

As if reading Tim's mind, Abby looked up at him.

"I got a feelin' we're missin' somethin' here..." she said to the teen crimefighter, frowning a bit as she thought. "Maybe that Dorian fella would know, aye?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2012 9:34 pm

Tygrus looked at the three. Artemis squirmed. "I don't think we should trust Dorian's words. Perhaps we should stay and listen to what Crystal has to say to Arell?"

"Father fixed her." Tygrus spoke.

Crystal walked right up to Arell, wincing as she walked with nothing to support herself on. The look on her face said 'I'm gonna slap that look right off your face' but her actions were some thing entirely different. She let herself fall onto his chest, huffing, tired and worn from the small walk and wrapped her arms around him.

"You misunderstood." She said gently, through gritted teeth from the pain she was in. "I don't trust Dorian as far as Artemis can throw him, but seeing the decay for myself was something different."

((Hey, kiddies! Sorry I left so unexpectedly last night. Kinda passed out.))

Arell stood there, a little surprised on what happened. However, he was still INCREDIBLY upset. "I thought we was close 'nuff fer you t' TELL me you had decaying disease thang, but I guess NOT." he said, a bit of coldness in his voice. Oddly 'nuff, him NOT calling her "che'" and just moving on would have been a hint that something wasn't right. He was doing everything in his power to keep himself calmed down.

One part of his mind was half tempted to just let that low Cajun growl say "But you trusted him. Let go ya bonne a rienne, I'm outta here!" but that other half of him was doing its level best to remind the boy that he was still in love with her and that right now, and that he needed to stay and comfort her. Or at least take her to a doctor.

So what he did was met them half-way. He picked her up and put her in the boat they came in on. "Yer goin' to a REAL doctor back in Gotham. If dere's anythin' left 'tween us after dis we can start over den. Now stay here." he growled. Since he ran out of cigarettes he sucked on a toothpick and walked back in the lab towards Abby and Tim.

"We got her, now let's get outta heah before I get dat itch t' plug Dorian in de hea'." he growled. His Cajun accent even more unintelligible than usual due to how upset he was. In truth, they were the reasons he hadn't completely brought the whole building down on Dorian's head. Especially with a thick steel laboratory door taken off its hinges and on the ground.

At this point in time, Abby had decided she had had enough of Arell's attitude, and she marched right up to him, giving him a look that, were Aiden present, would make him run for cover, as it was a look that Abby and Aiden's mother would give when she was angry.

"Alright fella-- I've had it with yer attitude!" she said, glaring up at him with her bright blue eyes, completely unafraid even as she looked up at the much larger male. She tossed one side of her hair back, and then said: "This whole time you've been acting like a complete, utter arsehole just 'cuz yer girlfrien' got kidnapped! Well, seems to me this Dorian fella must not be all that bad if yer own girlfriend isn't comin' to ya and cryin' fer yer help! Makes me wonder what the Hell she ever saw in ya in the firs' place, 'cuz right now, all ya look like is a whiny brat who's upset he can't play th' hero! Suck it up, grow a pair, and stop actin' like a jerk!"

Arell's patience was already thin, but this . . . the redhead short kid telling the Cajun bounty hunter where to get off? He started laughing. Then he took a swig of whiskey.

"Listen, shorty. If yer gonna try t' ream ME out, get a step-ladder. My ears are up here!" he said. To be honest, that rescue attempt was so bad that Abby REAMING HIM OUT actually made him feel a lot better. However, the demon drink had gotten the better of him. Not enough to make him drunk, but enough that the truth had come out.

"Thanks fer the laugh, che', I needed that." he said with a shrug, catching his breath from laughing.
