"We aren't?" He questioned, with a tilt of his head. True, he didn't like to be indoors all the time. But he wasn't the most active person either, he did run and he certainly was no slouch when it came to his night time activities, but the fact remained he was content to be in a mall or at home or even locked up in his green house.

Knowing that giggle he prepared himself for whatever reason she had for being late in arriving from the parking lot, and he wasn't disappointed in how silly it was. "I see, well then I can excuse that. Next time I wouldn't mind seeing you and Eamon sing together, I'm sure it was quite the duet." Smiling as he grabbed a plate to load up, with things he didn't need to heat, he asked Lily then to grab his wallet from his back pocket and put some money into the collection.

"Oh?" He asked, taking a glance around and wondering just who her friends were. "I'll join you when you greet them?" He asked, unsure if he should stand at her side when she spoke to them. To be honest he knew none of Lily's other friends, aside from hearing their names. He knew none personally or by sight. So maybe this was a chance to at least be able to put a face to names now. While it was an appealing idea, and something so simple, he felt it proper to ask anyway just on the off chance his added presence may not be wanted by anyone.

Jett had parked the car a short walk away, not because he was afraid any of the geeks around here had the guts to do anything freakish but because it seemed like the wisest idea to choose a parking lot that was relatively secluded to ensure that he didn’t have to deal with any sort of traffic while taking his leave. He pulled out his cell phone and glanced at it; still no message from Raven. He assumed that meant that she wasn’t finished with her homework, though he’d been expecting her to finish it earlier so they could meet up with Candice this evening.

Pocketing his phone, he slid his hands into the pocket of his jacket and filtered through the people observing the sky, glancing over their faces as best he could. The sky—nor anything happening in it—was not of particular interest to him, and if it hadn’t been for Candice and Raven, he couldn’t have imagined him dragging himself out here if it weren’t for then.

A moment of searching with no results left Jett ready to just text Candice where she was—and then he saw a very familiar ball of white fluff and then a splash of blonde hair. Making his way over, he kept his eyes on the ground to avoid stepping on anyone and then, to announce his presence, toed Candice in the rump. “Hey,” he greeted.

A little slow to move, he didn’t want to come across as rude and block the view for anyone far more interested in the sky than him. Flopping down next to Candice, Jett reached over to pet the top of Cotton’s head. “She’s getting kind of big,” he noted, before finally drawing his eyes to the sky as he continued to ruffle the dog’s fur. “Raven might not be able to make it tonight. She had a lot of homework to catch up on and it’s eating her alive. She said she’ll make it up to you and plan a little play date some time next week, though, so sorry that you’ve gotta put up with just me for tonight.”

Arian’s head automatically turned to look up as the shout started up through the crowd, the half eaten brownie forgotten as the dark-haired teen watched the balls of light streaked across the sky.

There was something almost magical about it and the dark-haired teen couldn’t help but briefly close his eyes and add his own wish. I wish that I could do son and dad things again with my father like we used to... Maybe it was wishful thinking, giving that he and his father didn’t really have even a speaking relationship to speak off – but wasn’t wishing on a start supposed to be magical?

There was one meteor that seemed even brighter than the rest, large and bright enough that even Arian without a telescope could see it, not that the dark-haired teen thought much of it at first except to absently think it pretty. At least not at first. It took a few moments for him to notice that the light seemed to be getting brighter, but even then it was dismissed, it was probably another part of the shower after all.

There was a bright, fast little meteor that seemed to be headed in their general direction. Frowning at the sky, Darwin squinted for a couple of seconds before conceding that his glasses were simply not strong enough to help him verify whether or not the flaming space rock was actually headed towards them. The green-haired boy instead ambled towards an unguarded telescope and peered through it.

Yup. The telescope showed the little meteor becoming a bigger meteor, meaning that yes, said meteor was heading towards them. Maybe it would go over their heads? He certainly hoped it would. Getting caught up in the explosion of fiery death and burning likely to result from impact would make it terribly difficult for him to finish transferring every Pokemon to the latest Pokemon game. Besides, who would be left to stop the squirrels? Evil little rodents would probably dance on his grave.

Humming a strange mash-up of the funeral march and the Darth Vader theme – they went well together, he thought – Darwin looked up and finally spotted a familiar face in the crowd. He half-walked, half-danced over to them, coming to a stop next to Jett. Twisting his head to look at Jett - a move that made Darwin vaguely resemble a vulture - he commented, “ I hope seeing you outside of school isn’t a bad omen.”

This was not Nyasa’s thing, not at all. When she got down time, Nyasa lurked in bars or let loose on the dance floor. She did not attend boring geek conventions dedicated to staring at a frankly unimpressive light show; giver her lasers and strobe lights any day. No, the main reason Nyasa had come was because Euc- Makayla had said she might come, and Nyasa felt it prudent to keep an eye on her. This was largely in thanks to Nyasa’s second reason for coming: large gatherings had a tendency to get exciting in Destiny City. A large group of people getting together to watch a celestial event? Really, she’d be surprised if something didn’t happen.

Nyasa had sat herself on a bench by one of the fires and ignored the meteor shower up until she heard a change in the murmured conversations going on. Glancing up, she could see what people were babble about: a meteor that looked as if it would pass very close. Very close indeed. Considering Destiny City’s track record of events gone pear-shaped, Nyasa felt perfectly justified in standing up and wandering closer to the trees, just in case.

There was space! Things to do with Space! Millicent had begged her mother to take her to the picnic, and Bellatrix had agreed, though had remained in the car, intending to nap for a while, due to a terrible headache. Millie didn’t mind though, and as the meteor shower had really gotten under way, she looked up at the sky, her mouth agape in absolute wonder. Wow. It was just…so pretty, like…it was really magical. She glanced around to the crowd after a few minutes of looking up, and decided to go searching to see if there was anyone that she would possibly know. After all, you never knew who or what you could find at a magical meteor shower!

The child skipped through the crowd, then paused, hearing an uneasy murmuring from the crowd. Blinking, she looked back up to the sky, seeing the meteor coming right towards them. Woah! That was cool! It was magical…almost…like a space ship! Maybe…maybe this would be the best proof ever that Star Wars was real…maybe she would have her chance to become a Jedi after all..maybe…That would be the best thing ever…being a senshi and a Jedi.

She didn’t have any fear from the seemingly incoming large space rock, just an overwhelming joy at the thought that her dreams might really be coming true at any moment.

--------

After what seemed like hours, Raven had finally finished that damn Logic homework. She had glanced at her cell phone, then let out a soft curse, heading right for her car. She was late, yes, but, she figured she’d rather just make it to the picnic site and meet up with Candice and Jett, rather than waste five minutes texting back and forth with the male.

When she finally got there, she parked then walked over, pulling her sweater closer around herself, and spotting two blondes, and a green haired boy. Oh. Darwin was here too, it looked like.

She walked over, smiling. “Hey, guys. So sorry I’m so late. That homework is just…awful. It really is. I’ll be happy when the semester is over, I swear I really will.”

Raven looked at Jett and gave a smile. “Sorry I didn’t text. It just seemed like it would be a waste of time, so I hurried over here instead. Sorry if I made you think I wasn’t coming. Because…I’m totally here.”

She ran a hand through her hair, then shook it slightly, happy for the warm hat that was on her head. “Wow. That one’s getting pretty close, isn’t it? It looks so big!” Her eyes had landed on the large meteor and she seemed a mixture of surprised and impressed by it.

Candice looked back as she heard her name. Staring at the figure walking towards her, she confirmed that it was Jett and used one hand to wave at him. Curious to see who was approaching, Cotton popped her head out of the blanket, barked and wagged her tail. She had only met Jett one other time so far, but the little one was definitely friendly. "Heya Jett! Glad you could make it. I know it was kind of last minute," she said with a nod. "So it's totally fine if Raven can't make it."

When Cotton got petted, she bounded out of the blanket and stood on Candice's crossed legs, trying to lick Jett's hand, face, and whatever skin she managed to get to. "Hehe. I don't think she's that big! She's still my little puppy," Candice responded while giving Cotton a hug. "I'm really glad one of you made it though! And honestly, no company is bad company!"

Once Jett was settled and sitting down on the blanket, she looked back up at the meteor shower. Candice thought that it was positively lovely to look at. Without looking at Jett, she spoke again. "Don't forget to make a wish! Today is definitely the best night to be making wishes with all these stars falling," Candice whispered as she smiled. "And don't say it out loud either! It might not come true that way!"

As Candice was about to wish Raven had enough time to come, she heard a familiar voice behind her and looked. "Hey Raven! You made it!" Candice put Cotton down on the blanket as she stood up and gave her friend a hug. She had noticed that another person that seemed to be a friend of them both and waved at him as well. "One of my wishes came true already!"

Candice sat down again and patted a spot on the blanket next to her. She also signaled to what appeared to be Jett's friend. "Sorry my blanket seems to be shrinking, but you're free to join us as well!" Candice knew that she didn't get out much when it came to just 'hanging out', but she was getting better.

Cotton on the other hand, was enjoying herself immensely. She first darted from Candice's lap over to lick Jett's face. Then she went and snugged Raven. Last but not least, she went and licked the hand of Jett and Raven's friend. Candice watched her and smiled. "You're definitely going to be tired out tonight!"

Apparently, with the excitement of having more people joining her on her blanket, Candice forgot about the meteor that seemed to be getting closer to them by the second...

Jett turned, glancing lifting his eyes to scan over a very familiar boy. He had not been in the company of Darwin alone since the Surrounding, and when they’d met up during school, it was always with Mary or Raven around—and, speak of the devil, before he could even say anything, Raven had shown up. “Ah, I don’t think it counts for late, I seriously just got here,” Jett reassured his girlfriend as he lifted his sleeve and mopped at the dog saliva on his cheek. “Now, sit down before someone stones you for blocking their view. Besides, I can see up your skirt,” he said, tugging at the fabric a bit.

He leaned forward a bit to address Darwin, all the while still tugging playfully on Raven's skirt, and said, “It’s only a bad omen if something bad happens. Otherwise it’s just me here to brighten your day a little bit. What are you doing here, aren’t you worried about the creatures that prowl in the night or something?” That seemed right up the boy’s alley. If he was freaked out by squirrels, then ghosts, spirits and shadow creatures had to close behind.

Perhaps it was that he wasn't looking at the sky and didn't see the meteor, or maybe he just thought that was normal, but he was far too preoccupied with socializing than with stargazing to be worried about it.

Certainly, Sydney was not exactly the astronomy type. She wasn’t much of an academic type in general, either, but she was definitely open-minded enough to try something new whenever the opportunity presented itself to her. She grinned when she received the cup and raised it. “No problem! Will do,” she replied, half-nodding. She muttered a hasty thank you before she shuffled over to the urns and poured herself a nice cup of warm hot chocolate. The coffee went ignored. Sydney wanted sweet things, and coffee was not sweet. She let out a happy sigh as the heat permeated through the cup and to her hands, covered in fingerless gloves. The freckled girl chose to remain by the table in case she wanted a second round of hot chocolate. The steam warmed her flushed face when she brought the drink to her lips for a tiny sip.

She kept smiling as she directed her gaze toward the sky, relatively clear and filled with twinkling stars. Her face lit up with fascinated wonder when she spotted a streak across the sky. Was it…? There was another! Sydney took another sip of her hot chocolate. She grinned, but then raised an eyebrow at the bright light.

-----

Lian checked the time again. He scowled when he realized the meeting time had long passed and he still saw no signs of his friend arriving. It was unusual. The only conclusion he could conjure up was that either she was stuck in some sort of traffic or accident, or somehow she had caught a cold and failed to inform him about it for one reason or another. Exasperated, he went to take another swig of tea his mother had given him. He remained sitting on the ground, knees bent and pointing to the sky as he rested his arms on his knees. A few minutes later, the young man noticed a shooting star. The meteor shower had begun—or perhaps it had begun a while ago and he just hadn’t noticed it, he didn’t know. The childish thought of making a wish came to mind, and at first he refused to make one. Making wishes on burning pieces of space rock did not make things come true. Then again, he had seen weirder things in Destiny City. However, the bright light caught his attention. He scowled. What in the world…?

-----

Hayden knew there was a meteor shower tonight, but at first she had not planned on going to the park to view it. In fact, she had not planned to watch the shower at all. Shooting stars were pretty and all, but the young woman felt her time could be spent doing more interesting things—such as going to the club. However, for one reason or another when she walked all the way to the place, she found the doors lock and the lights turned off. Frowning, she tapped against the glass door as she read the sign. The only word that caught her attention was: sick. Oh, of course. The owner just had to fall ill. Hayden sighed and glanced at her watch. How was she going to kill time now? Her eyes drifted toward the sky and her lips curled into a smile. Oh, I see. Is this fate, perhaps? Hayden Lynch chuckled before she spun on the heels of her sneakers and began to walk toward the park.

It was a bit chilly, but perhaps it was because her jacket wasn’t quite as thick as it should have been for star-watching. Her boots brushed against the grass as she waltzed her way over to the refreshment table and opted for a glass of orange juice despite her mild chill. One hand pressed against the edge of the table, Hayden’s eyes twinkled when she caught sight of her first shooting star, but made no move to make a wish. Rather, her expression quickly turned confused when she spotted a particularly bright streak of light. She looked around, and in her search spotted Connor. Grinning, she took her cup of juice and slid next to him. “Hey.”

Darwin was happy to see Jett and Raven and slobber-dog and new-girl, really, he was. School was school, so it wasn’t like he could socialize much there; too much to do, too much to learn! Outside he could talk with people – or at people, if they were the hard-of-hearing sort that made funny faces when he talked – and it was nice. Maybe he should let his parents make him do stuff more often. Possibly. Potentially.

“ Parents persuaded me to participate. Presently I possess a perfect position for potential pyrotechnics.”

Darwin looked amused, eyes straying towards this sky again as he continued to pop his lips in silent “P” sounds. The moment when Darwin finally came back to the present was visible, a faint shake of the head and several blinks of his eye as he looked at new-girl, the blanket, and then plopped himself down on it without ceremony.

“ Thanks. Might as well be comfy. Darwin.” He poked himself in the chest, then pointed at new-girl; if he’d have grunted, it would’ve been a good Tarzan impression. “ You?”

Raven laughed, seeming rather pleased as the dog nuzzled her, then grew very red when Jett mentioned seeing up her skirt. It really took all she had not to just kick him right in the face, maybe knock out a tooth…Hm…he’d deserve it for saying a thing like that. It seemed that Raven’s willpower wasn’t completely good, for she still kicked Jett, though perhaps more gently then she had really wanted to. She took a seat next to Candice and the blonde, leaning against her boyfriend and looking up at the sky once more.

Well, she looked up at the sky until Darwin started a tongue twister the likes of which she was quite sure she would never hear again in her life. The blonde shook her head, looking at the green haired boy that she had considered a makeshift boyfriend while up in space. He was so…so quirky. It was kind of adorable. “Darwin, honey. We’re not all super strong in the vocabulary department, you can dumb your speech down some if you want, Jett can’t understand what you’re saying, I’m sure.” She grinned, hoping that Darwin would see that she was just joking…for part of it at least.

Yeah, this was so much nicer than sitting at home doing homework. She couldn’t wait to finally get out of her house and move in with Tova, things would be a lot better then, she was sure.

Candice giggled a little bit as she watched Cotton bound from person to person. Eventually, the little puppy just decided to plop back into Candice's lap and snuggle in the blanket. Candice ruffled the little dog's tummy a little bit before wrapping Cotton back up in the blanket. Cotton however, chose to stick out her head again, her tongue hanging out, still excited from seeing more people.

"Sorry about Cotton, you guys... I think she's just excited seeing this many people at night at once." Candice laughed as she felt Cotton's tail wagging in the blanket. She reached out her hand to Darwin as he introduced himself. "Nice to meet you Darwin. Me Candice," she said with a laugh and a smile. "The little bundle of fur is Cotton and I thinks she's excited to meet you!"

Besides enjoying the ball of fluff on her lap, seeing Raven and Jett together and how they behaved around each other made her smile a little bit. "Now you two... Not to be a party pooper, but the main attraction is the sky tonight, not you two making fun of each other." Candice stuck out her tongue at the two.

"And Darwin, some times it's good to turn of your brain for a night," Candice said winking. "Unless you normally speak like that normally... Which is definitely something new for me. Haha."

"I still have to say... The meteor that seems to be getting bigger isn't making right now very comfortable," Candice remarked as she started picking up Cotton's toys.. Just in case.

Jett wasn't intending to be rude, but simply chose to ignore Candice. Screw the sky, he came here to get out of an empty house. He couldn't resist a scoff and glanced at Raven as he rubbed at where she had kicked him in the arm. “Sweetheart,” he said in a rather condescending tone, “Just because you’re the only girl on the planet who takes six hours to finish some math doesn’t make it all right for you to try and dumb me down to your level.” He pat her atop the head. “But it’s okay, I forgive you. Darwin, go ahead speaking in your little tongue twisting, I don’t mind your shenanigans. Don’t listen to Raven, she’s just a little more brain dead than usual from her logic homework.”

“ … dumb my speech?”

Darwin looked clueless. He hadn’t thought his speech was smart, just that it had included an amusing number of “P” words. And the next part derailed Darwin completely, leaving him confused and mentally flailing.

“ … turn my brain off?”

Brains could be turned off? Didn’t that make a person dead? Darwin didn’t want to be dead. And of course, since Darwin had taken these statements literally - the joke-alarm in his head was seemingly temporarily Out Of Service - he was left with a blank, clueless face as he tried to sift through the meaning of the two girls’ words. They could turn their brains off and be not-smart? Did that make them zombies? Did-

And then Darwin’s mind was thrown in a completely new direction by Jett’s statement.

“ … six hours?”

That was inconceivable to Darwin, who never spent more then an hour on math, even when eating dinner and watching TV at the same time. Brain unable to handle all the mental whiplash, Darwin went back to the comfort of making silent “P” sounds as he reached out to pet Cotton, ignoring the not-smart-zombie-humans around him while he waited for his brain to reboot.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 21, 2012 12:07 am

Raven shook her head, giving a laugh at Jett’s words. “You a*****e. I love you.” She snuggled closer, then looked at Darwin, seeming almost concerned. “Um…Hey…Everything okay there?” When he seemed to freak out at Jett saying she spent six hours on homework, Raven colored slightly, looking away. “Yeah, well, not everyone is as smart as you, Darwin. Shut up and don’t be a jerk about it, okay?”

Men. Who needed them. It was right then that Raven was very happy that she didn’t start dating Darwin for real. How would life have been then? Too much math, not enough adoration.

------

Millie continued making her way through the crowd and looked around, finally landing her eyes on Jett, Raven, Candice and Darwin. She didn’t know Darwin, but, she knew the other three! Two padawans and the girlfriend of her favorite Padawan! The child ran over, waving. “Jett! Jett! Candice! Hi! Hi you guys are here too? To see the pretty meteors, right?”

She skidded to a halt in front of the little group, losing her footing and ending up falling right into Jett and Raven’s laps. Giggling, she looked up at the two, grinning. “Oops, sorry…but I’m just gonna stay here and cuddle.” This was wonderful! Not only was she going to be taken to space to be a real Jedi, but her Padawans would get to come too! How awesome was that!

She remained in Raven’s lap for a moment, then scrambled up, looking at Darwin curiously. “And who are you? Do you want to be my padawan too? I could always use more padawans.” She looked back to Jett. “Hey. That big meteor? That’s a starship, I know it. And it’s going to take me to space, and I’m going to be a Jedi. It’s going to be wonderful, and you all are going to get to see it happen.”

For a split second, Jett wondered why the girls in his life were always trying to beat him up. Raven kicks him, Cotton tries to lick him to death, Millie tries to squish him. He adjusted positions so he was a bit more comfortable after Millicent tried to bowl him over. “A star ship going to take you into space? You sure you want that?” he prompted. “Space is a big, scary place, you know.”

Not that he was scared of anything, but he assumed from all the Star Wars books she’d read that she knew that there were terrible things out there. His only experience of such was in the Surrounding, but that was enough for him—and he wasn’t about to recount tales of space bats and whales and salamanders and spiders. Somehow he imagined that would only encourage her. “Can’t you just learn to be a Jedi on Earth? I don’t know what we’d do without you. Earth’d be a lot more dangerous without you here to protect us all.”
