Aleister looked around nervously before moving up to the dog to inspect it closer. "Huskys and Malamutes, to my knowledge are pretty large, I use to have a friend that had a mixed dog of those two... but I'm not sure what this is..."
He picked up the animal's paw to inspect the size compared to his own hand, "I'm not sure it's rabid.... I'm pretty sure I remember Simon mentioning odd behaviors in animals as a sign." He shrugged as he stood up still looking around like he expected something else bad to happen.
"The question is... why is it only showing up now?"

There was something odd about the dog. It wasn't from around here, clearly. But it wasn't a huskey or malamute. It was... just a dog. A mutt of some sort.

It was joined by another.
And then another.
And another.
If the trainees wished to withdraw, now would be a good time.

Ofelia had been sort of sitting back and watching her friends, wondering what they were supposed to do about killing someone's dog. It wasn't a wolf or whatever else, thankfully not a werewolf since that would have scared poor Ali to pieces, and the was idly poking at the bite on her arm when she heard the howls on the wind.
"Um...B'for? Ali? Do ya think the dog had family, cause if it did that ain't no howl Ah ever heard." Ofelia knew the cry of animals in the night, the dogs and what have you, but the sounds she heard in a growing number didn't sound...Earthly. They sent a shiver up her spine and sent a shiver down Rue's as well, though the weapon seemed excited for an entirely different reason. "Maybe this dog....wasn't really a dog after all, but sommin' else entirely."
Well it had bled regular old blood, not that Ofelia knew them to be anything else (that zombie had kinda melted though) and she stood from where she'd been leaning against the plane. Her steps carried her over to her comrades and she looked them both up and down, their injuries in her eyes. If it came and they were still there, she'd defend them.

Before immediately tensed at the sudden chorus of howls. He quickly tossed the gathered samples to Aleister, "Keep these safe, Al. You're a Deather so you gotta make sure the intel gets to the base. Offie, you're a Sunny, make sure Al gets there safe. I get the feeling these things aren't going to stay put for much longer. Go on back to the portal, keep your partners summoned." he ordered, trying to keep his voice even except the trembling of his legs was pretty much making that attempt for nothing.Rown Feel free to ignore Before's orders if Ofelia really wants to check it out. Aleister shoved the samples into a pocket inside his jacket. Keeping Puca summoned was the easy part. "Whoaa.... w-wait a minute. You're not going to stay are you?"
Aleister was pretty sure Before was about to do something dumb. By the looks of the matter Before didn't want to do it either, Al grabbed the other boy's arm. "We should get back up." He did want to go back to the portal but leaving a man behind with however many there were.... that was a massacre waiting to happen.
"No one's going to blame us for grabbing back up." He said looking around worried and hoping Offie would agree with him.

The howls and cries were getting louder and louder with every passing moment. The area seemed to grow darker as malignant forces rallied themselves, the chorus of unearthly wails growing louder and louder.
And then they arrived.
It was a tidal rush of shadows. Vaguely the trainees could see shapes that suggested muzzles and teeth, glinting eyes and bristled backs. Whatever it was it wasn't happy, and it was heading right towards the trainees. They had them surrounded, and -- where was the portal? The portal was gone.
Shadow HP: 145
Take 5 damage every time you attempt to attack the shadows, hit or miss.
In order to see the portal again, the Shadow HP must be reduced to 95/145. Good luck.

Before was so glad he hadn't dismissed his weapon. Because Al and Ofelia didn't reach the portal in time. s**t. s**t. s**t. s**t. s**t! Gritting his teeth, the Misty swung the wheel at the pack, but a sharp bite to his arm turned the strike into a glancing blow.

Aleister frowned, "ACK I told you we need back up." He looked back towards the portal. "I-i-it's GONE!"
This is not good, not good at all. Why where there only three of them on this? He frowned, "D-does anyone know where we are?"
He squeaked when the shadows came too close to him, he swung puca in a knee-jerk reaction. Hitting the shadows and making them retreat back a bit, he backed up towards Before. "How do we get out of this?"HP: 32 -5 = 27/40 Charge: 2/3 Damage: 12 - 6 = 6 Boss HP: 136

Now this? This was what Ofelia was talking about. The Sun trainee may or may not have been dragging her feet on purpose, too curious for her own good about the creature that was before them, and she cackled with nervous excitement as the group grew and somehow the portal disappeared. This had just turned from boring into a real adventure, or so she felt, and Ofelia moved to strike at the creatures.
She missed though, horribly, and instead felt a sting not unlike the bite of the dog from before. It was much harder though, stronger, and it burned where it connected. A thin hiss escaped her lips as she looked to the others, waiting for Before's command to strike. Ofelia could be a power hitter if she tried hard enough.

Before gave Aleister a sympathetic look, "Whether or not someone knows where we are, we're trainees. We're disposable." He motioned for Ofelia to regroup, "Back to back! Uh, to back!" Because there are three of you, Before, you can count right? "Portal signal's probably being blocked by these things! We gotta get out of being surrounded or whittle them down. Offie, we could totes use some of that Sunny damage. Al, I know Deathers are supposed to be intel but whatevs, give them a taste of death!"
Such a rousing speech, silly Before. Will it work? Vanna sounded dubious.
Grimacing, the Misty gripped his partner's handle tighter. And after barely blocking an attempt to bite his head off, the runes on the wheel flashed and... the wheel looked completely the same. Except when Before swung, there was a loud, satisfying thud upon impact."We're totes disposable but we're not going down without a fight!"

"Ah'm behind ya all the way, though Ah dunno how useful Ah can really be. My close combat skills ain't always good fer larger crowds." Ofelia wasn't saying she wasn't going to fight, she was just warning that she might not be able to hit as hard as they'd like her to. Either way this was exciting and she jumped her way into the crowd, punching away with Rue. The weapon was taking in the FEAR with each hit, getting ready.
Just a little more. The words were a chant in her head. They weren't there yet but they had time. Everyone's FEAR sheilds were still hanging in there and she had no reason to back down just yet. Ofelia didn't want to just whittle this creature down to size. She wanted to destroy it.
Rue agreed.

Ofelia had been ready for it, or just ready to do something, but Rue just wasn't quite there yet. When Before asked her to release some heavy damage she shook her head but went in swinging anyway, punching at the shadows. In the back of her mind Rue groaned and Ofelia knew it was time.
"Let's keep goin'! Ah wanna kill that thing!" She looked to the others, the expression on her face fearless. "We can do it, Ah jus' know it! No givin' up, let's take it down!"
