I'm not Japanese, but my mom was born and grew up in Tokyo. She's Chinese though... And I'm half Chinese. Funny how that works. <_<;
I've been to Japan once, and I'm planning to go again! I'm especially looking forward to seeing what new games have come into the arcades since I was last there. xd

A . S . N . Nisei pride :3 I haven't been back to Japan in so very long... Same here nisei...to all who don't know what nisei means it's best defined as second generation.My parents are immigrants from Japan. They came to Canada than I was born here which makes me nisei. I think SOME people might be interested in Japan because of games and anime and manga. If another culture had stuff like that people might be into that culture instead of Japanese culture...maybe....

I'm Canadian, and proud of it, but I'm learning about Japanese culture and language, like so many others in this guild.
I don't know whether or not I'd want to be Japanese... It's not a concept I've really thought about, now that I think about it.

I am not Japanese, but I am learning the language, history, philosophy, politics, and culture as an East Asian Studies major, and I will be living in Japan for a school semester abroad in about a year. Currently, looking into Kansai Gaidai University, Siebold of Nagasaki University, another Nagasaki program, and Nanzan University. Does anyone know if they are good schools for spring term?

I'm not Japanese, and I live in Japan! xd Where's that option on the poll?
I'm not a "Jap wannabe." I'm perfectly happy with being a gaijin. I'm treated well, I do have friends that love me for me, and not my nationality, and there are some perks that come with being a gaijin. You have more freedom, as far as customs go. If you don't know about something, or forget about it, you will get reminded, but it will be gentle and sometimes amusing. And on the other hand, if you do do what they would do, you get a lot of respect, and it's also sometimes amusing. Also, knowing any Japanese at all gets you insta-respect. They expect me to not even know how to say hello, nevertheless participate in classes and be able to socialize. I think the only problem is that some Japanese I've met are intimidated, because they wish their English was as good as my Japanese. Also, some Japanese are just plain racist. But it's funny, I've experienced less racism as a white person in Japan than I did as a white person in America. surprised

Don't go to Kansai Gaidai! It's pretty much just a language school. If you want the real Japanese experience, go to a real university where you will be on the Japanese term schedule taking real classes with other Japanese. Much, much better, IMHO. I don't know about the schools in Nagasaki, though. How good is your Japanese? Like, what level are you taking right now? Can you read kanji? Can you use plain form in talking? If you know enough to get around, go to a real uni.

I wish. I'm American, and I've only ever even met two people who were Japanese, Mika and her sister Kanna.
