Freezia made her way carefully around the two, as they stood there catching their breath, and speaking to each other. She was glad to finally be in the lead, and she wasted no time showing them the safest way up the side of the mountain. She had very vague memories of climbing with her parents before the fateful day when the three of them were attacked by agents of the Six, and her parents were killed, and she left for dead. She knew this particular mountain was not the one from her memory, but it still felt good to be back on a mountain none-the-less. She could see Penelope gliding around on the air currents, and wondered for a brief moment what it must feel like. She wondered if the Azrein she had seen with wings, felt the same exhilaration from flying that she felt from cavorting on a mountain side. One day she would have to ask one of them, if she were ever so lucky to meet one again. If she didn't take these brief opportunities to go off on her own when Rhia and her mate were together, she wouldn't have the chance to meet as many of her own kind as she did. The villages and towns that they traveled through were not filled with Azrein and their Chosen. Those were mainly gathered near the King's castle, and that was one place Rhia stayed clear of.

"Oh, no worries Free. I don't mind taking my time at times." He smiled back at Pheonix catching her amusing sneeze once again. His mind was clouded with thoughts of flocks of sairys and how they lived. Did they too acted like an azrein herd? That was what he wondered. Could they all speak to azrein just like Penelope could too?

Blinking, he stepped a little to the side with confidence. The terrain was getting more adaptable to him every second he was on it. Maybe after years of clibing this, I'll be a pure expert! Looking ahead to Pheonix, he nodded his head sending his mane flying. "I'm ready."

She reached another ledge that was wide enough for her to stand on, so she stopped and looked back to see where the others were. They were making their way up to where she was, but they didn't seem to be in any real hurry. The sun had passed over the mountain, and was on its way down the other side. If they didn't find someplace to stop for the night, they would be stuck on the mountain side overnight. She decided she would go on ahead and look for either a cave or wide enough landing for all of them to sleep on. Considering how high up they were, it didn't seem logical to her that they would start back down at this late hour.

"I'm going to look for some place to spend the night," she called down to the two below her. "It's going to be dark soon, and footing will be more dangerous in the dark."

She gave a quick snort as she traversed the landscape beside Ahadzen keeping slightly to the rear in case he lost footing. Her tail flicked behind her as they continued upward, her eyes catching the sun. They did start late in the day and well the mountain was higher than she thought. At Freezia's words, she looked around for a moment trying to spot something a tad closer but there was nothing.

Eventually she made it to where Freezia once was before she started looking. Her eyes looked toward the horizon as she kept close to Ahadzen, the wind gently playing with her mane and feathers. She felt a familiar sensation of standing here staring at this exact sunset. But...that couldn't be possible. She attempted to search her mind trying to find an explanation for this sort of memory, but there was none. Phe gave a gentle grunt more agitated at herself than anything. It was all so familiar and yet....nothing. "Ahadzen, do you see anywhere to rest for the night?" She called to him more to make idle conversation than anything to keep her mind off of her strange feeling. Pheonix looked back over toward him noticing his more focus on the climb. Pretty soon he wouldn't need her supervision and he could be climbing all on his own.

It was getting darker by the moment. He was careful with his footing, but now was more difficult to him for he wasn't really accustomed to this terrain - yet. Listening to Free was logical. It was getting harder to see at this hour. He hoped that they would be able to rest sometime soon. Back at the lake, he wouldn't have to rest for a few days because it was almost like his lands. This wasn't.

Flickering his ears back at Pheonix, he heard her clearly. While continuing up the cliffs, he tried to spot some flat area in the layers up ahead, but everywhere just seemed to be rockier than the first. Maybe a cave of some sort would show up. "No, at least not right now." he spoke slowly coming to a stop. He feared that if he would walk and talk the same time, he would lose his footing.

"Wait! Free!" he shouted, not even knowing if the Capra ahead of him would even hear her. She was getting a distance away, after all. "Try asking the sairys to fly over the place to find somewhere for us?"

Free heard his call, and she sent out a mental call to Penelope. The bird circled down from above and flew here and there before coming to land on Free's back. She had found what she thought was a suitably large enough cave for all three Azrein to fit in, and after conveying this information to Free, Pen took to the air again and flew to where the cave entrance was located.

Free called down to the others, "She's found a cave! Look to where she is at and you will know where to go." Free headed off up the cliff face, climbing nimbly over the boulders. It felt good to be on a mountain again after so many months on flat ground with Rhia. It took relatively no time at all for her to reach Pen's location, and she entered the cave first to make sure it would fit all of them. Satisfied that there was no danger in the cave, and that they would be safe during the night, she walked back out to the opening and looked down towards her two new companions. "It's big enough for all of us!" she yelled down to them.

Pheonix figured that Ahadzen wouldn't last long in the mountains which made her glad when he asked to rest for the night. It was getting dark to Phe could still keep going. She was used to traveling long distances on many a terrain. The mare kept close to Ahadzen offering supportive comments and gentle words of encouragement.

No time at all it seemed and the female made it up next to the capra. Her ears flicked forward and backward as she looked in the cave, a sense of familiarity about it. It was large and the rocks seemed to have been carved out by something as if this wasn't mountain made....but what? Pheonix looked around quite curious of what could have created this shelter. Sure she was grateful, but what was here that wasn't so long ago? The ground below was also a different coloration but she could barely make it out due to the fading light. If only she had some light...Pheonix shrugged and looked back over her shoulder to see if Ahadzen had it made it over the ledge into safety yet.

Free made room as Phe reached the entrance to the cave. The sun was already over the mountain, and shadows were quickly advancing into the cave as the light diminished. "It's going to get awfully dark in here real quick Phe. We'd best find places to settle for the night, or we'll be tripping over each other in the dark." She moved into the cave behind Phe, so that Ahadzen would have plenty of room to enter. Free was well acquainted with caves, having been raised in the mountains to the south, but there was something about this cave that did not feel right to her. Capra tended to find caves which had already been hollowed out by nature, in one way or another, but this cave had the feel of something else. Nature had not hollowed out this cave, and that piqued her curiosity. She tapped her hoof on the floor of the cave, and realized that it was not well-packed dirt as she had thought. It felt like stone, melted at a very high temperature, and then polished into a smooth surface. Not at all like the floors of the caves to the south, nor like any she and Rhia had had occasion to spend the night in while on the road. She found a place near the wall, well away from the entrance, and lowered her body to the floor, tucking her legs beneath her, so she would not trip the others in the dark.

His heart was pounding with joy. There was a cave and everyone was waiting for ... him. That didn't matter though. Another day lead to a new start and that was all he cared about right now. Forget about him saying that he was tired! He was now full of energy. Quickly scrambling up to his waiting company, he shook off from sweat and gave a small whicker of accomplishment. he did see that the others to were tired, so he stood watch of the cave entrance. it was better to be safe than sorry and he was the one who was holding the group back after all, so why not let him stand guard?

The mare gave a quick nod toward the other, her ears flicking back and then forward. "Good idea, Freezia." She watched the capra for a while before letting her gaze fall back to Ahadzen who had just seemed to come up to the ledge. He looked quite proud of himself and Pheonix could only think that she was glad for him. It was obvious the trek was hard for him so this conquering of the mountainside would do well for the male's ego. She gave him a smile as if to say that she too was proud of his success. Her tail flicked idly, feathers ruffling as she moved to give him room. Her head turned to watch Freezia as she settled in for the night before looking over to Ahadzen again. "You can rest. I am not tired at the moment. You know I hardly sleep." Phe gave a gentle shrug as she watched night take over the land. Everything seemed to change when the sun went down as the nocturnal creatures began to creep, crawl, and prowl. Her ears flicked as she heard the sounds of the night which made her ponder what else was out there that she had yet to know. "Ahadzen...do you think we'll still be finding adventures?" Her head tilted wondering what made her ask such a question. It was true that the duo had been traveling together for quite some time, but what would happen in the event that they would split up? She often wondered why they would, but there were a multitude of reasons for that sort of thing. "I kinda like traveling with you...and I like who we meet along the way." Pheonix took a glance over at Freezia before back at the kirin. "Do you think we'll find your herd up here? What of your voices? Is there anything that's familiar to you?" The mare had been wondering about his family and what he would do. In a sense, she also wanted to rid the voices from his head that plagued him like a banshee. However, they hadn't bothered him for a while - at least what he told her anyway. Pheonix was also feeling a little too familiar in this cave...like she had been here before... her mind fought to control the images of fire in her head that seemed to swarm around the very area they were resting and standing on. She hoped that talking to her friend would calm her nerves.

He knew that it did not matter if he looked like a true stallion or not a Pheonix. She just wanted him to be well and healthy. Never had a mare volunteered to watch over a group of others, except for his mother. His mother... he pushed the thought of her away. She was out of his life and that was all that mattered, right? He sighed, pretending to make it look like it was a burden for his friend to stay up after the day's trek up. "Alright. I'll stay up with you for as long as I can though." he offered. "Our adventures shall continue. Every day is a new adventure for all of us, and we shall meet others. Some who you'll remain friends with, and some who you will grow unfriendly feelings too."

The sight outside was stunning. Everything looked like a new world ever since the sun had begun its cycle of dying for the moon to be rebirthed. Or that was how he was taught about the sun and moon with his herd. He opened his mouth to tell her about the whispers, but froze. He saw something. What was it again? "Red and green .... with another that's orange and hard .... on the outside." Nah it wasn't, could it? He broke his trance to continue where he left off. "I enjoy you and Freezia travelling with me too. Maybe even that sairys of hers too since it led us to the cave."

Giving an odd glance around the cave, he shrugged. "I'm not sure when my herd does their uhh... 'snow' ritual. I do know that the smell of the terrain is now somewhat familiar to me now!" He knew that she was trying to ask something else about the familiarity, but he did not say anything afterwards, just stared at her feathers.

Free watched the interaction between her two companions from the comfort of her place in the cave. It never occurred to her that one of them would need to keep watch. They would surely hear someone coming up the rocky side of the mountain, long before they reached the cave entrance. She sent out a mental call for Penelope, and shortly thereafter, the sairys came gliding toward the entrance. Seeing the two Azrein standing watch, she maneuvered her body to avoid them, and entered the cave, coming to a stop in front of Freezia. "So, you're spending the night here then?" asked the bird. "Yes Pen, and so are you. Wake me if you hear anything. Those two won't last long, so I'm relying on you for our safety," Free instructed the bird. With a chirp only a sairys' could make, the bird jumped up onto Freezia's back and made herself a soft bed in her long hair. Satisfied that they were now safe from any unexpected visitors, Free lowered her head again, and closed her eyes.

Pheonix briefly caught the movement of Penelope out of her peripherals moving a little as if to give the bird room to enter the cave more out of habit than anything. Her ears flicked a little catching Ahadzen's voice turning towards him yet again. Her mouth quirked as she tried to read his emotions wondering what was on his mind. "...Thanks...but as long as you get some rest." She turned her gaze away toward the horizon wondering why she felt so flustered all of a sudden and why Ahadzen made her feel that way. Her ears flicked back and then forward watching the skies change until there was nothing else to change to. Night had engulfed the land and the moon and her children shone brightly in the skies as clouded as it was. "Is that what life is then? An adventure? I often wondered how I would be able to...explain what a life is...Am I living one now?" Pheonix had often found herself asking these questions to Ahadzen on nights when she let her mind wander. The female was so used to being ordered around that the prospect of not finding her Master was slowly becoming a bad memory or even a dream. Surely it must have been a dream else she would be with her master and not here on her own free will. Her eyes snapped back to attention not really noticing what Ahadzen had said or his distraction earlier. "Ahh well...Penelope is her friend. I'm sure friends like to stick together." Pheonix offered him a kind smile as if to insinuate their relationship. She liked to think of Ahadzen as a friend and wondered if he felt the same way sometimes. "Hey maybe we're closer to figuring out that voice. Is it still bothering you?" Her head tilted watching his eyes watch her for a moment and a brief look of confusion crossed Pheonix's face before she shook her head and sneezed, top feather coming down as normal to pop the tip of her nose before her head and feather righted itself. It was then that her stomach began to growl. "Oh...I'm...hungry..." The statement was more of surprise than anything else. She still wasn't used to eating and sometimes she went days without it until Ahadzen chided her on not doing so. Eventually she'd know that eating was quite important.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 6:41 pm

He stood, taking in her words. He was about to think that she was too into thought until, of course, she sneezed. "Well, I guess that you have just learned some new things about yourself, Pheonix." he smiled. "There's rest that's needed to regain energy for the next day, which would usually led to an adventure for us. Friendship is very important. I have no idea how one would be able to be alone for a long time." he snorted. "Must mean that they hate others or something? And uhh.. hunger.." the stallion looked around. "Hunger is something that you would always feel when you haven't eaten for a while!"

About to yawn, he shook his head, blocking out the question of the voice inside of him. Why would she care so much about it right now? "Um.. let's search the cave for something edible."

Penelope cracked open one eye as the two horses started to move through the cave. They didn't seem intent on hurting Freezia, so she closed her eye and concentrated on going back to sleep. Freezia's coat was nice and warm, and Penelope found herself quickly drifting off again. Freezia felt her friend move, but she chose to keep her eyes closed. She had been semi-listening to the others conversation since she had laid down, and knew they were simply looking for something to eat. Free knew that once the sun rose, she would be able to ask Pene to go out and hunt something down for her to eat. Not that Free would eat another creature, but then Pene knew that, and would bring her some nice fresh grass or her favorite leaves instead.
