Climbing on top of a small bump he widened the circle of his examination, once more glancing over the other cubs to assure himself his siblings were all safe. From his new vantage point he could see through the bush scree that protected them and caught sight of one of the adults as she slunk through the thick grass. Wars pricking he watched her for a moment then looked beyond, at the large herd of preybeasts. Ah ha! So this was where the lesson, such as it was, begun, right? Shifting a little a top his bump he watched the herd flow in sections across the savannah. Some small part of him knew that, unlike his sisters, he would one day have to have the pride, that he would have to hunt and fend for himself. So while it wasn't a conscious thought, he pad perhaps a little closer attention that the female cubs around him.

Really? Really? Chazama was actually a little bummed when the adults left them here by themselves, with nothing to do but watch the grass grow. Or, well, they were probably suppose to be watching the adults hunt. She supposed that was the case, and her mother - ugh, she hated thinking about that - probably wanted her to learn valuable hunting lessons from this trip. The small feline fidgeted, pressing her paws into the ground in turn before finally setting long enough to put her full attention on the herd. How could there be so many of them? You'd think a whole herd like that would eventually break off and go separate directions... it was amazing they all stuck together like that. Perhaps hunting was easier than it had sounded.
It was while she was pondering these things that Chazama managed to edge closer to a cluster of dead shrubs, each with little tips pointing out like grabbing, jabbing claws. She had wanted to get a better look at the herd and was quite anxious to see what would happen next. All she had to do was wiggle her way around the shrub, she just knew that was best place to watch from, it offered shelter and there was a clearing in the grass just in front of it, and absolutely perfect place to look out at the whole herd. At least it would have been if her fur hadn't gotten snagged on one of the pointy dead sticks. With a gasp, as it had come at a surprise, Chazama pulled back sharply to escape whatever had 'grabbed' her, and was wholeheartedly surprised when she eyed the patch of her fur that still clung to its branches. Oh no it didn't! The juvenile slumped in mild horror, trying to find the spot it had come from, and upon seeing the scratches to her side completely forgot about watching the hunt and went to work licking at the spot trying to come over her fur to cover it. She might have succeeded, if she wasn't wincing every time she touched the area.

Buna's heart raced as one of the elephants stomped its foot at her, but thankfully it didn't try to attack. It was careless of her to get close enough to annoy the large animal, and she made a mental note to give any elephants she encountered in the future much more room. The experience had rattled her a little, but she focused on the task at hand. Getting the cubs tucked away safety and then getting on with the hunt. Not every hunt was successful - far from it, so she needed to concentrate and hope for some luck.

Despite furs full of bramble, and the increasing darkness, none of the cubs died, and very little went awry. If the Boneland's believed in such superstition, they would have called the journey 'luck'.
Tired, dirty, and bloody, the two lionesses returned to the cubs shortly after nightfall. A large antelope was between them. It had been a healthy animal, but it had carried a limp which easy cost it its life.
No matter how any cub or lioness might have bickered, however, no one was allowed to eat. The entire meal was carried back under the cool, starry sky. The cubs would have to watch the males eat first, as they always did, and watch the remaining adults contest amongst themselves for positions.
Perhaps luckily for them, many were still full from a previous meal, and there was a great deal left for the young cubs to squabble over.

The day had been long and tiring, not only going out on the trek, getting socked, meeting a bunch of huge grey monsters, and then the squabbles and playtime when they had been left alone while the adults went off to hunt, but the long walk back when everyone was little tired, a little grumpy and a little sore of paw... Laini was glad when they finally caught sight of their homeland once more. he hd enjoyed the day, enjoyed spending time with other cubs and his sisters, but now it was time for a long, deep nap after filling his belly as best he could.
Soon enough the young cub did just that, still licking the blood form his maw when he passed out by his mother's paws, fast asleep.
