Marsh watched the monster smoke into nothingness, and grimaced slightly. He hadn't meant to hit it quite that hard. But Miyako was hungry, and, she told him primly, she had gotten SO tired of yetis ... but she was still hungry. He needed to feed her again. One more time, pretty please?
He turned to another cage, watching the runics pin down the serpent-thing within and waiting his turn to let Miyako feed again. The first man - Isaac, Marsh vaguely recalled having heard the name somewhere - held a whip, multi-tailed like Miyako. "Relative of yours, Miya-chama?" Marsh chuckled.
Hardly, the kitsune hissed. Not likely. Stop thinking about silly things and feed her already, she demanded.
"Okay, okay, cool your jets." Marsh stepped forward and flicked the whip forward, the beaded lashes smashing into the serpent-thing's side. He nodded to the runic hunters holding the thing down. "Thanks," he said, and got the hell out of the way.

Melly stood nervously in the crowd of Hunters, looking around as people shifted in place, hands resting on weapons, a few standing near one another ... friends, lovers. Her own fingers brushed the hilt her Barrier Dagger, hoping that it would serve her well if something happened. If something came through that portal. The Four Clans... she had heard of them. Who hadn't? A shudder went down her spine at the thought of Apocalypse, the end of everything. They couldn't let that happen. This was important. Probably the most important thing she (or any of them) would ever do in this life.
When they were instructed to trap and hold the creatures in the cages so those with Fear weapons could charge them, she nodded to herself and grabbed one of the trapping guns. She could do this ... trapping an already trapped creature shouldn't be too hard. Right?
Wrong, apparently. Melly made a frustrated noise as the creature somehow managed to dodge her shot. And all the other cages already had four people on them .... damn.

Those were some power hits he saw there. Of course, Julio expected nothing less. Em even managed to smash it before Cecil finished the thing off. Looking to see what was still needed, he noticed a fifth monster that wasn't there.. before? Or perhaps he didn't notice.
Either way, he just raised up his trap gun now that he was free again and shot at it. Once he had a hold, he stood firm.

She tried not to think about Liam’s words too much. It didn’t take a genius to realize what the mission’s outcome would be, and it wasn’t very pretty. Unblinking, Flair summoned her weapon and she could hear him chuckling eagerly inside her head. She brought up the gun and aimed it at the creature. She tried to be gentle with it. Other hunters had to get charges after all, but she wished her shots had hit a bit more lightly. Flair scowled. Hitting lightly? So damn tough.

Switching hands always seemed to give him a better grasp of what he was doing, and Lowe brought Afzal down on the second cage's monster without so much as a hint of expression on his face. In his mind, a voice was screaming.
DIG DIG DIG DIG DIG DIG. DIG INTO THAT FLESH, BREAK THE BONES AND CUT THE SKIN. DIG INTO THEM, DIG DIG DIG DIG.
Lowe was digging, and his weapon was charged. It was time to step back and wait, and he shivered with nerves. This was his chance, finally.

Targeting Cage 5Just as C was ready to tell Selena to chill out, Melissa handled that for her. She felt substantially more relieved now - if this mission was really as dangerous as they made it out to be, the last thing she wanted was to bicker all night. "Ha! I'll try to. Looks like I should've gotten a couple drinks in me to loosen this tired body up." Maybe someone had a flask. She'd have to ask around when things calmed down again. "Oh JESUS, this thing...!" Gesturing for Melissa to check it out, she bent own to look Cage 5's monster in the eye. It was truly terrible. The worst monster she'd ever seen. She fired a shot at close proximity, which seemed to be effective. The little creature looked like it was trying to garner her pity. Yeah right. 2/4 for Cage 5!

Partially charged wasn't going to cut it. Dimitri needed to be fully charged before he would be satisfied and willing to carry out a charge attack for him. Unfortunately, their original chow had already been destroyed, leaving them to choose among the remaining four.
"How about this one, Dim? This looks uhh... tasty?"

Then Melly noticed one more cage set off to the side. And she tried for that one. This time, she felt the sort of 'thunk' as the gun hit, and pumped a fist into the air. "Yes! Gotcha..." Now they just needed one more person here...

 The other Hunters had the other cages and the creatures within under control. All except for the Fourth Cage it seemed. s**t. They couldn't let the thing escaped, and once she finished the preparations, Gabby shot at the creature and caught it! Except it was pretty strong despite how it looked and she could feel its struggling try to pull her arms right out of her sockets.

(5 targeted) Mark followed C and a couple of the others to where she was busy trying to hold down an awful little creature. He'd been a little careless before. Not this time. And definitely not with something this creepy looking, Being unnerved did seem to increase his accuracy, because he managed to snag it. But even getting the creature hooked wasn't enough. They all thrashed around so much it took four of them to keep them tied down. Mark could still go for that cigarette he didn't get a chance to light yet. Maybe when all the superiors left, he could have that one last smoke before the apocalypse. "Feisty one," he commented to C, Melly, and Julio as he struggled with the line. See? Nothing to worry about here as far as monsters went, though the hunter whooping and dropping his gun might be of some concern. Kieran frowned deeply at Gear, “Dropping your weapon is nothing to be cheerful about, successful shot or not,” he pointed out irritably. This was serious, no playing or celebration here. It might be New Year’s Eve, others might be celebrating. But they had work to do, and it was important, dangerous work. Not something to whoop and holler about!
Glancing around, he spotted a fifth cage, how had he missed it, and leaving the other hunter be for now he stepped towards it. He’d said his piece, and this monster was not yet pinned properly. Perhaps he could fix that… or perhaps it was already accounted for. Well. Maybe people had become more efficient than he’d given them credit for. Still, that business on the training fields, and the fellow who’d dropped his gun… it wasn’t that reassuring, not coupled with the threat looming before them.

Lowe looked back as soon as Afzal was charged, the large voulge standing at his side and poking above his head. The chant to dig into the bodies of others was still ever-present, but Lowe could ignore it for now. He was looking for Em, seeing as she'd gotten charged too, and when he found her he walked over and placed a hand on her shoulder.
He hoped she wouldn't feel how he was trembling. "Em."
