Taryn gave Mort a very, very confused look. Tank? DPS? What in the world was he on about? Alright, look at it objectively. He was asking how they felt, what they could do.

"I'm alright? I feel fine. My FEAR... I can use it with enough time in between. It takes a lot of concentration, it can get tiring." She had used it twice so far, but had only made contact once. She could probably handle a couple more good bursts... She turned to Tset, who... looked rather cold, really. She looked down at her own jacket and her brow furrowed. How cold was it, exactly...? Her eyes turned back down then to her jar. "Where can we bring this to get it looked-at?"

Tsetsiliya blinked as well, trying to make sense of what Mort had just said. Well she certainly wasn't a healer, but going by what the others answered, she too figured he meant her FEAR.

"I, er, suppose I am feeling okay?" Cold, but alright. "I am not using my FEAR.. not yet, anyway." Truthfully, she had only used it once in practice - and that was for the standardized testing. And against a stationary "enemy", if one could call the FEAR meter that. "It is also taking a bit of concentration but it is moreso, er.. gradual?" Yes, that seemed the correct word.

As Taryn brought the conversation back around to what to do with the jar, Tsetsiliya folded her arms across her chest, as she was apt to do while thinking. "Are we knowing any who are scientifically-minded?" The first name that popped into her head was Malodore, but even then she did not know it well enough to really know. Nor did she know where Malodore might be. Probably fighting, like the rest of the student body.

"No-one plays MMORPGs?"

Siiiiiiigh.

The one time he knew what he was talking about, one of the few times he could actually make a grammatically sound sentence, and nobody got what he was talking about. It was like trying to explain robots to Amarus, only worse! He understood why Taryn wouldn't, but he had been hoping . . . Gaaah. "Kay, kay . . ." He nodded to each in turn as they answered, rubbing his forehead; Mort actually preferred to massage his brain with a finger a la Dr. Finklestein, but exposing the electric-powered organ to the cold and wet waaaaasn't a great idea. "Sh-Sh-Should be careful, JOY m-might bring JOY mobs." Both in the gamer slang and literal definition ways. "Should keep here, m-methinks, n'case s-s-something happen."

After all, the last thing Mort wanted to do was accidentally lead one of the creatures to their dorms!

Much like Tset, the zombie thought of a particular plague doctor when it came to "smart people". "Mr. M-Malodore see?" he offered. "O-Or Taryn, be v-v-very smart," he added with a nod.

"I'm just here to bash on things," Roch said cheerfully. "I don't do mad science or any of that stuff, other than I'm good at putting stuff together. But you're right, Taryn's got some serious brains. Um..." He frowned, looking around them. "I would agree, y'know, about staying here, but nothing can be studied out in the snow, and if we DO get them in the dorms we can at least get them into a crowded space that makes it hard for them to come at us. Halls are good, stairways..."

He looked at the other three. "If we can get the brains inside with the scarf, then some of the fighters can watch the door?"

As much as Tsetsiliya did not want to separate, even for a short time, she had to agree that it was a solid plan. It wouldn't do to have the examination of their sample be interrupted by an attack.

"I-I am also voting for Taryn to examine," she piped up with a raised hand, smiling. She knew the ghoul to be rather smart. But there would need to be the election of one more. She was neither brainy nor much of a fighter, however.. she frowned. What to do, what to do?

"I-I am having a heat-based FEAR, so perhaps I am staying with Roch?" She failed to mention she was not very adept at using it yet, but heat versus cold was probably better to take down enemies. "I am not very academic, outside of plants.. so perhaps you are helping her, Mort?" The zomboil seemed intelligent to her, so in her eyes the nomination made sense.

Taryn felt a hard pang of self-doubt. She had seen the effects of Insanity and had learned some about its effects from the horsemen... but what else? She could make assumption, certainly, and educated guesses, but would that be enough? She felt as if the staff may do a better job than her, but she hadn't seen any of them. Maybe they had worse things on their hands...

Now she looked to Roch, listening to his reasoning and feeling a bit nervous. The chimera would feel much safer with Roch, having seen him beat the heck out of several Christmas creatures. The idea to watch the door was good, but what if the creatures could teleport or phase through walls? They would be no safer inside than outside in the snow. Oh well, this had to be done.

"Alright, I will do my best. Perhaps on a stairway with a fighter on each end? It won't be comfortable but I can't imagine much else being any safer."

Of course he would be touching the shoulder of a ghoul would have another fire-based ability. The specific term was "heat", but Mortimer could generalize that into "bad thing he did not want"; thus he was happy to agree that he stayed with Taryn at least a little bit of a distance away. He really didn't want to have another meltdown today - literally or figuratively. "Will do," the zomboil said with a nod, gingerly letting go of Tset (as if somehow she could read his mind about the whole heat + zombies = bad thing; maybe he was getting paranoid after the Hunter ghoul had read him like a book?). "N' after f-find results, can look into tunnel?" He had recalled Roch mentioning one.

"I'd rather not," Roch said simply as he headed inside, looking for a stairway like they'd talked about. "I'll take the top, you take the bottom," he said to Tset. "We can do this."

Taryn nodded and took off at a jog, nearly sliding through the threshold and stepping back to the wall to examine the scarf. It was JOY, it had to be, and something strange was happening to the creatures. She spoke loudly to all of her teammates and, she realized, perhaps any Christmas creatures nearby.

"I only see JOY. It makes sense, considering where these things have probably come from. It's... not pretty." Then she saw it, a thin line of black up the hem of the scarf as if someone had singed off the hem. It was blackening, becoming more pleasant. "Something... something's going on with the scarf?! It's changing... it's a good sign! These things dissipate, we can beat them, and I think something is... corrupting them? It might be FEAR! Considering the antonymous nature of even the names of the forces... it's possible FEAR is stronger? It's hard to tell, but the JOY, if that's what it is, is corrupting." The ghoul took some more time to look the jar over and shook her head. There wasn't anything to see, they'd have to get it to someone who knew what they were looking at better... but who? She was tempted to remove the scarf from the jar, but then what if it dissipated? They couldn't risk it.

"Now the creatures, that's another thing entirely. That's not FEAR, not if they're taking it out on us. Grey and blue... I've only seen this once before, but I think I know what it is, and as far as I know there's no way to cure it. That could be an issue. The beasts are being destroyed, whatever their original intention was I think they've drifted away from it. There's a serious force at work here, and I don't quite understand why. It's possible that FEAR is turning these creatures to Insanity? I haven't studied the effects of FEAR on JOY..." Then it struck her. At the back of her mind it had been working away, what this all reminded her of. She'd had to consider the creatures' positions before it struck her from a bird's eye view. A glowglobe. They were inside a glowgl--well, no. A snow globe. She spoke entirely out of turn with the rest of her speech and yelped excitedly. "I think I know what's going on! To some extent... If I'm right, there might be a way out! ... at the bottom!" She looked them to Roch who really, really didn't seem to want to try and brave the tunnels.

The music once again goes quiet all over campus, and in the silence, the turning of gears growls and grinds deep underground seems louder than ever. And then even louder until the air is vibrating with the thunderous rhythm. The forms of defeated foes soon begin to waver and then...not quite dissipate, but rather turn misty, into a fog of sorts. The wisps of their remains travel outward and upward, until the sky above the school is dark with the restless fog.

Some students may find it...familiar. And when the clockwork cacophony shifts and twists, subtly, ever so slowly into a chorus of terrible, dark whispers...it becomes very familiar indeed.

The air is soon full of hundreds of voices, a speaking at once in a maddening hum of confusion, anger, and a crushing, mind-numbing loneliness.

Roch jerked, looking down the stairs at Taryn and the others. "Stay here," he told them. "Stay safe. I'm gonna go see what's going on." He raced off to see what was going on outside without waiting for them to reply.

Would Mortimer have come to the same conclusion? Maybe, if you had given him more time, less pressure, a better atmosphere. The most anxiety he had ever had to deal with prior to school was whether his computer had been infected by a virus, or if there were extra pizza slices to nom. His head was still whirling with Taryn's observations, trying to find the connections, when the fog came - when the voices came.

Now Mort had not been on the field trip to the island where the mind-numbing loneliness and voices and fog had first come, but that did not mean it didn't affect him. And boy did it affect him. Like he actually felt cold for a few seconds with the oppressive new atmosphere.

Without warning, he pushed himself down the stairs, grabbed Tset's hand, dragged the poor ghoul up, grasped Taryn's shoulder, and began to tug the ghouls up with him.

Roch might have said "stay here", but quite frankly Mortimer was sure it wouldn't matter where they were. Blame it on the zombie mentality, but he believed in safety in numbers. Whatever was going on, they all deserved to see/
