Kiashana ZOMG. So this is the first chance I've had to post about this that I remembered.... I got the newest 'Seventeen' magazine the other day, right? And as always, there's a page where some person I've never heard of does music recomendations. And who's on it? The one, the only... Matisyahu! I'm serious. Matisyahu is mentioned in Seventeen's November 05 issue! How cool is that? very

Matisyahu isnt just known to jewish people. hes the 3rd best known reggae singer. and often when i hear the (icky, big ,bad, ugly, drunk, barbie doll) college kidz blasting their music, its usually the regular ugly stuff they listen to. but this time, when i was walking on the street i heard these mexicans blasting matisyahu off the radio and dancing to it and not even realize hes talking about judaism! (also, im getting his new CD, when he came to our shul he talked about it)

ScionoftheBlade am I the only one who thinks There is something wrong with a Reggae Chassid being supported by MTV? Well, it's a little odd, but you have to admit that there's something way cool about one of our own being that well known for music that has Jewish themes. I mean, it's no weirder than say, Creed, being a part of pop culture. If Christian rock can be mainstream, why not Chassidic Reggae?

True, it's often easier to be unobtrusive. It would make my life easier if my Judaism was unobtrusive in all of my life. For many of my friends religion doesn't matter much and I couldn't tell you what they are because it doesn't come up. Unfortunately, Judaism is just one of those things that doesn't seem to like staying unobtrusive (i.e. explaining all your abscences in the month of October)

Matisyahu is really big where i live, even though my school has about 20 jewish kids (out of 3,500 total) they still play him at dances and during lunch
