Seren shook her head as Elise moved back to the conjoined living room sipping the hot tea lightly. Seren was having a hard time reading the other red head and was slightly uncomfortable with it. She would just need time to adjust though she figured, she had never had a room mate before. Sipping her drink as she left the kitchen to hide in her room for study she glanced back at Elise for a moment and noted that Mic, her kitten was curled up on the unoccupied portion of the couch next to her. Elise was fairly attractive, she noted, Pretty red hair and an attitude that could stop a speeding freight train, I should probably get back to my work before i start going the wrong way with this she thought to herself turning from the couch and escaping into her room.

Elise sat quietly on the couch, sipping her tea. Since Seren hadn't said anything in reply or to start a conversation to get to know her, Elise remained quiet as usual. However, Elise could feel Seren staring at her for a bit. But Elise did not say anything about it. Then again, she didn't have the time to reply as Seren soon moved off into her room to continue studying or something. Out of the corner of her vision, her assumption was proved correct due to the flicker of movement going into Seren's room.
Elise did not notice that the kitten had found a comfortable spot on the couch near her. At least not until she finished her tea and was about to get up to wash the cup she had used. She frowned a little at the sight of the tiny black ball of fuzz. How could Seren manage to hide something so clearly a contraband in terms of the dorm regulations? True, cadets were allowed to have fish bowls and aquariums. Elise had an iguana of her own living in an aquarium in her room. Besides, it wasn't like she let the lizard have the run of the apartment like Seren did with this kitten. They were allowed to have things that would be confined to cages like snakes, lizards, and fish. Not anything with fur.
Frowning a little bit more about the kitten, Elise got up from the couch and headed into the kitchen. It was time to wash the cup she had used for the tea.

It wasn't long before Rika had just ditched him. Tai was far to reserved and untalkative to keep the woman's attention. He reluctantly followed her through the crowd of people as she went to undoubtedly harass whomever she was calling out. It's going to be a long night : ( he thought to himself with a sad emoticon pictured in his head. "How do you know so many people Rika... You know what, I don't want to know." He stared blankly at Tania for a moment and then said, "Well I guess since Rika knows you I should invite you to stick with us for the night." It was rather ambiguous but he was actually extending an invitation to her.

Rika scoffed at Tai's comments before replying, "You're so antisocial sometimes Lt. This is Tania, she's only the best female mechanic I've ever seen, and probably the cutest as well... how could you not know her? Anyways, yeah, you can hang with us tonight if you want Tania, unless you're here with somebody else." Rika yawned and stretched her arms above her head again, the meds she took really made her exhausted sometimes. Luckily she wasn't too tired to have fun tonight. She glanced around, her eye catching on the blackjack table nearby. She really wanted to play, even if she didn't win, she just enjoyed playing cards. There was no challenge in playing normal games with your friends, she wanted there to be actual monetary stake on the line. "So what's the plan then, get drunk and go gamble or go gamble then get drunk?" Rika sounded like she was in a slight hurry, but not like she was going to die if she didn't do something in the next five seconds.

Running away with people constantly in front of her was proving harder then she thought. Accepting defeat she would just turn around to face Rika and the Lt. Tania twitched slightly at his words. He wasn't exactly the social type now was he? This was going to be a long night if such a fact was true. Antisocial people were in other words just plain boring. At least he had the decency to invite her. Before she was given a chance to reply Rika spoke up. Tania's right eye twitch at the mention of cute and shot Rika a quick glare. Cute was one word she never used to describe herself. "Pfff... Its not that hard if you take into account I'm the only female." Shrugging she would accept the offer. "Eh why not, people I was with disappeared.." Placing a hand on her hip she scratched the back of her head in the thought. "Why can't we gamble and get drunk at the same time? I'd like to see how many rounds of drinks I can get Lt Smiles to pay each time he loses against me." She smirked slightly, not an evil smirk but more of a trickster type, one that was plotting, and she had found her nickname for him amusing.

Seren finished her second assignment in record time after about two hours of study, taking a small break and thinking about a snack she tilted her chair back on the rear legs as she stretchered her arms behind her head and yawned. I might actually get some sleep tonight she thought glancing at the clock just as a rather loud boom shook her room and she flailed as she fell over backwards in her chair and bumped her head on the floor, letting out a small curse as she rolled over rubbing her head. "what the hell was that!" she said and stumbled out of her room just as the fire alarms started going off, "Elise, what ha-" her question was abruptly interrupted as suddenly the sprinklers went off and she was then drenched in water.

It didn't take long for Elise to wash the teacup clean, dry it off with a rag, and then put it back into its respective cabinet. After that, she retreated to her room to grab some school books and her notes. She too wanted to look over some of her own class materials. She didn't get very far into her studies because Mic the kitten had decided that her lap where her book was would be a good place to settle in for a nap. Elise frowned in annoyance as she stared down at the miniature ball of black fluff. After a second or two, Elise gingerly picked the kitten up off of her book and placed it back down onto the cushion of the chair she was seated on. At first, it didn't seem that Mic was too pleased about being moved from the spot he wanted to sleep in, because the kitten kept trying to climb back up into Elise's lap.
Finally, Elise let out a low growl of annoyance and picked the kitten up, holding it up in front of her face, glaring a little bit at it. "Must you really be so annoyingly persistent? I'm trying to study here." she said to the wayward kitten, which simply mewed back at Elise innocently. Letting out a sigh, Elise gave in, closed her notebook, and continued to hold onto the kitten in front of her.
"Why don't you go play with your toys or bother Seren." she suggested before a loud booming noise shook the walls of the apartment. The surprise caused Elise to nearly drop the kitten onto the floor as she stood up from her chair. Fortunately, she did not drop Mic. "What the hell--?!" she managed to say before Seren came rushing out into the main room. Before Seren could finish asking what happened, the sprinkler system in the apartment turned on. Squinting a bit, Elise looked up at the ceiling. This was certainly irritating. After all, she had just taken a shower not too long ago. What idiot set off the fire alarm? Elise wanted to know. "I have no idea what happened. But that explosion sounded like some kind of bomb or a chemical mishap. Either one of them are not good, and it sounded like it came from a couple of rooms away down the hall from us." She replied to Seren who was also standing in the spray from the sprinklers, looking very bewildered.
Elise placed Mic onto the floor and the kitten scurried to hide underneath the couch to protect itself from getting even more wet than it already was at that point. The female cadet hastened over to their door and opened it. She then hurried out into the hall where other students were busy running for the building exits. Elise was going against the flow of students to get to where the explosion originated. She didn't care if Seren decided to follow or not. Elise wanted to know what happened and who the idiot was that caused that explosion.

"Zero... Zero times cadet." he said as his eyes stared at Tania from behind dark reflective sunglasses. "I would never contribute to a cadet becoming drunk, and you won't win a single hand against me since I don't gamble." What and odd statement, why would someone go to a casino if they didn't gamble. The answer? It was only gambling if there was a chance of loosing. With his statement declared Tai went over and sat down at a blackjack table. The dealer acknowledged him with a nod and then waited for the others to sit.

Rika chuckled as Tai asserted his opinion. She watched him head over to the blackjack table and said to Tania, "Don't mind him, he's just full of himself. Well he does win quite a bit so I guess I can't fault him for it. Come on, let's go." Rika put her hand on Tania's shoulder and led her over to the blackjack table where Tai was. There was a problem though; there was only one free seat at the table. Rika shrugged and said to Tania, "You go ahead, I'll go trounce the other table." With that, Rika turned and headed to the table next to them and sat down. Looking at the fairly inexperienced players she just happened to get stuck with, then back to the average crowd that Tai and Tania were with, Rika sighed once and said, "Well, let's get this over with." Rika stretched her arms above her head again and smiled lightly, not really put off by being separated from her companions.

AT his reply Tania pouted for a quick moment, it was only in her head though. If one could see her inner aura it would be doing something similar to this = 3=. Never said anything about getting drunk... oh well.. If it hadn't been for Rika talking to her before she had had the chance to say anything she would have probably complained about Tai's little demostration of arrogance, or what could have been considered as such. Walking towards the table she would just blink we Rika left her with the Lt. "You don't..." She was simply going to tell her she didn't have to give her the seat but it seemed Rika had made up her mind. Letting out a sigh the cadet sat down next to Tai. For some reason she was feeling a little awkward, perhaps it was because he was after all a superior. "I thought you said you didn't gamble?" It was mostly just a rhetorical question, though she was hoping he would give soem sort of reply. It would make it more awkward if they simply played in silence.

Rika sighed lightly as she sat at the blackjack table. Peeking at her cards intently, she held a perfectly straight face as she looked around the table. There were grimaces and grins in equal measure, only her and the dealer were the only ones straight faced at the moment. It wasn’t really like Rika to pick on the inexperienced, but that was just how the cards were dealt she supposed. When it came to her turn she tapped the table behind her cards, indicating she wanted a hit. The dealer put her next card out, the ace of hearts. She didn’t react any further other than waving her hand over her cards in a horizontal motion. Someone straight faced at a table full of amateurs was odd, so her lack of reaction gained a few inquisitive looks. When the time came to show her cards, Rika simply smiled lightly and flipped over the one card she had face down. She had a King of Spades, a Queen of Diamonds and an Ace of Hearts; 21. It wasn’t blackjack, but it was better than everyone else at the table. Rika and the dealer exchanged glances and he showed his cards; a King of Diamonds and a Queen of Hearts, only equaling twenty. It wasn’t that amazing an experience, just another common winner at a blackjack table. Collecting her winnings from around thirty successful rounds of blackjack, Rika stood and stepped away from the table.
She was almost immediately stopped by two men in suits with the casino’s logo embroidered on their collar. She smiled and said, “Tommy and Shaw. How goes things?” Rika knew the two casino floor enforcers through her many times visiting the casino in the past. The two were relatively friendly, if a bit on the quiet side. They were basically bouncers for the casino, sent to apprehend anyone suspected of cheating. The two nodded and Tommy replied, “Things are going good Rika, how about you- ouch!” His words were cut short by Shaw elbowing him in the side. Tommy rubbed his side as Shaw spoke instead, “You know why we’re here Rika; we go through this every time you visit the blackjack table.” Rika smiled a friendly grin and replied, “But of course, it’s our ritual isn’t it? Thirty straight winning hands of blackjack, you’ve gotta suspect something.” Shaw nodded once and replied, “Yeah yeah, and we never seem to catch you cheating either.” Rika continued smiling and said, “Because I’m not, you both know that. I’m just lucky.” The pair shrugged as if to say that they didn’t really care, but orders were orders.
Rika nodded to the two and let them escort her to the office she had been to so many times before. Sitting down in her usual seat, she crossed her legs, put them up on the table and waited, Tommy and Shaw standing across from her against the walls. She looked around and asked, “Say, where’s Paul? Isn’t he normally here by now?” Tommy looked uncomfortable for a moment and scratched the back of his head before saying, “Paul got canned, replaced by some arrogant p***k,” Shaw nodded once and continued, “Elitist, pigheaded, a*****e.” Tommy nodded and replied, “Yeah that about covers it, nice with the pigheaded comment.” Shaw thanked Tommy and they both smiled slyly as the door opened. A man in a finely pressed suit, which looked like a real Italian suit, not the fake stuff they made on the moon, walked in like he owned the place. Rika leaned back in the chair, her legs crossed and on the table still as she scoffed quietly to herself. The man turned to Shaw and Tommy and said quietly, “Took your time didn’t you? What’s the matter with you girls, afraid to get a little rough with this dyke?”
Rika had seen Tommy and Shaw apprehend cheaters before; they were less than cordial like they were with her. The first time they went to escort her to this room, She broke Tommy’s wrist and gave Shaw a concussion. The second time, she was a little more polite, only twisting Shaw’s arm a little and kicking Tommy in the stomach. By the third time, they had learned to keep their hands to themselves. This new guy however, didn’t quite understand that fact. Rika smiled still, exchanging glances with Tommy and Shaw before the man turned to her. He held in his hands a manila folder, with Rika’s name on it; containing documents detailing each of her past incidents at the casino. He dropped the folder on the table in front of Rika and said, "Trying again aren’t we? What do you do, count cards? Slip cards into the deck? No one here has been able to snag you, how is that?” Rika looked at the man and asked, “New guy huh? What’s your name?” The man scoffed as he walked around the table and to Rika, replying, “None of your goddamn business.”

Tai smiled at Tania, "It's not gambling if you know you're going to win." Normally if one simply counted cards then that alone was difficult but rewarding. However the dealer was also playing on Tai's side. A few years ago Tai had a run in the casino's manager, the man wanted to kick him out for counting cards, but Tai had, an ace up his sleeve. After threatening to have the casinos declared off limits to the military academy recruits, they came to agreement. Tai would get kickbacks in the form of lucky wins and he wouldn't ban recruits from gambling away their pay checks. So now he not only counted cards, but he figured out a way to count them even while the dealer manipulates the deck. Thus the game began, the dealer passed out two cards to each person at the table including himself. Tai looked down, he had an ace face up so he didn't bother to check his face down card. Tania had a queen face up and he knew that her face down card was going to be the four of spades. Since they weren't directly competing Tai decided to make a side bet. "I'll bet you that I have black jack with two cards Tania. If I don't I will buy you something. If you loose you can decide what you have to do." after which he looked to the dealer and said "I'll stand."

So the Lt actually was capable of smiling. Tania was unsure whether to feel more at ease or terrified. Nah, that was just a joke. It was nice to know that he was at least capable of human expressions. But that was just her mind being a bit mean like usual. Looking at him and then the dealer she tried processing what it was he meant by what he had just said. Could he be a cheater? Either he was extremely good and cocky, or just really good at manipulating the game. Whatever his reason, she figured she might be screwed. Although she new the rules for Blackjack, it really wasn't her game. Looking down at her cards she took a peek at her face down card as she listened to Tai as he decided to make a bet with her. "Oh? When I lose, if I do, I'll tell ya." In truth, she had no idea whatsoever what she would do for him if she lost. But she would worry about that later. Right now she needed to focus on the game. She decided it wouldn't hurt to get another "hit". Hopefully it wouldn't end up screwing her over.

For that particular hand when all was said and done Karina beat the dealer having stood at twenty and the dealer having nineteen but when it came time for Tai to show his cards he revealed the king of diamonds to be his face down card. "Blackjack." he said quietly as he pushed his cards to the dealer and collected his own bet. The next hands were all fairly similar, the people at the table would win some and lose some, with more losses than wins, while Tai continued to amass winnings. After he had collected a few thousand in winnings he started drinking knowing that he called it quits in a few minutes and cash out. "You know, I won't buy you a drink but maybe I'll forgot to pick up a few chips and you just happen to use them to buy one," he said a little playfully.

Although blackjack was not her favorite game for gambling she was having a fairly decent time, even though she never managed to win once against Tai. Either he was really good, really lucky or a big fat cheater! Anyways she wasn't really taking it too seriously to really care about such things. She was always cautious as to how much she was betting, she never took any major risks. Hey a girl needed money to live, besides she was only doing it to pass time, not so much to get money.
"Oh?" Hearing him joke playfully about how he would in a way pay for a drink for her without really doing so directly she smiled. "Guess you aren't all up tight as you make yourself out to be huh Lt?" Tania too was joking back with him as she then remembered something. "I lost our little bet..." Having been the one to lose meant she needed to do something for him or give him something. "What is it the victor would like?" The raised an eyebrow curious of his answer. Sure he had said she could pick what to do for him, but that didn't mean she couldn't ask what it was he would like. She still would have the choice of doing it or not.
