Despite wanting to make him stop laughing, the fact that she jumped after merely swatting at him made him shake with another round of laughter. He held back as much as he could, for Jerry's sake.
"Oh, God. Ohhh, kitten. I shouldn't be laughing, but.." She always had a way of making him practically die with laughter. He never forgot that.
"Look." He chuckled out, after he'd composed himself. "I'm not used to it, no. I don't like seeing the people I love hurt, especially not by my hand. But the fact is, we need to do this to live. And I'd rather Jerry live, after getting his a** handed to you in a spar, then to see him die because some ******** monster did a move you managed to get on him, and he didn't know how to handle it."
His face tensed, a cold, hard edge cutting across his jawline. It was an expression he'd only managed to acquire while he was at Deus. "It's all about survival. And kitten, I plan on surviving."

"Take me a bit more seriously, geez." She punched him lightly- she made sure it was light, then hurried in front of him to open the door so Robert could carry Jerry in.
"I know you do, but y'know, I'd think you'd be a bit happier about me not outright beating you up..."
Even though she had. Twice.
"I'll stay here until he wakes up," she announced. "I owe him that much. And you'll sing, right?"

"I am happy, kitten." Robert walked through the door, giving her a sincere smile. But as he passed through, from over his shoulder, he answered her second question.
"And.. no."
He whistled as he walked Jerry off to the infirmary, solidly denying any choir-joining whines that might follow on his way there.

"He said yes, Jerry. He said yes. You can rest now."
She petted the man's hair, then sat back against the chair.
