Ah, that was one uncertainty solved at least. "Thank you," she said as she placed her fork on the now empty plate that once had delicious chocolate cake, then pushed it a few inches away from her. Mmm, that had been some damn good cake. She couldn't help but watch the nervous waitress as the girl hastily gave Aulus the check before she grabbed both dessert plates and disappeared again. Some people...

Aulus fished out his wallet, checked the bill and tucked the cash inside the little wallet thing it had come in. Exactly change. Suck it, b***h. "Shall we go then?" Aulus suggested, draining his drink and making to stand up (cautiously). "Do you want a lift back? I brought a car, didn't really feel up to riding, plus the fact I didn't want to arrive looking all dishevelled and that." Looking good had been important, and thanks to Hayes he'd pulled it off. Hayes. Hayes was getting a massive hug when he got home.

"Yeah, I think so," she agreed to his suggestion of leaving, and having already polished off her drink she stood as well and pulled her coat off the peg it'd been hung on. "Oh, ah, that's okay," she said as she slipped it on, "Lucas already offered to give me a ride back." Plus the date had been filled with copious amounts of awkward nervousness. She didn't really think it would be a good idea to follow that up with a long car ride that could potentially double that.

"Right, that's f-" Aulus repressed a hiss of pain as he put too much weight on his weak leg, i.e. any. "That's fine," he he went on, blowing out a sharp breath as he collected his (Hayes') coat and slid it on carefully. Then picking up his crutch he set off slowly for the door beside Claire, privately promising himself some painkillers when he got to the car; he had brought some with him but didn't want to add druggie to the list of things the waitress and goodness knew who else already thought he was.

Once outside in the cool night air Aulus turned to Claire and felt the awkward levels begin to sky-rocket again, seeking previously unattained heights. "So uh... I... I had a really good time tonight and... and you really do look fantastic."

The sudden pause in his speech confused her momentarily before she realized two things: One, he was still injured, and two, he had just stood up, so the second probably irritated the first. She refrained from commenting though, and walked (slowly, to match his pace) beside him on their way out.

The awkward levels suddenly piqued once they were outside, and she really (really) had no idea what to do. Was she supposed to kiss him? Didn't that normally happen on dates? ...crap, was she really supposed to? As in, completely obligated? She hoped not, it was way too soon for things like.. like that, so she really hoped not... Crap, what had she gotten herself into? "I did too. It was.. was really nice," she finished with a firm nod, the bright pink tinge in her cheeks obviously from the cold and absolutely no other reason, "so thank you very much. For inviting me, I mean. And paying, and everything.." She didn't really know what to do, gods what was she even... Oh ******** it.

To avoid further levels of awkward (either that or make a new world record) she quickly leaned forward to hug Aulus, cheeks still burning, and hid her face in his shoulder/neck so there. She remained there for a good few moments to regain as much of her composure as she possibly could (which was extremely, uncomfortably minimal) before she spoke again. s**t, this was awkward.. "Thank you again.." With that, she twisted her head around to plant a kiss on his cheek, then hid her face again both to regain more of her composure (what little she'd gotten those previous few seconds was completely gone) and also so she wouldn't have to give him an actual kiss if he tried to move in for one. Not yet. Not even close.

The hug lasted a few more seconds before she pulled away (far enough to continue avoiding any actual kissing if it was on his mind at all, because it was not going to happen), she reached a hand up to tuck a few strands of hair behind her ear and directed a shy smile at the ground near his feet. She didn't really... know what to do or say at this point.. She kind of really wished they could both leave. Now would be a good time. Like, right now.

"Oh, uh you're wel-" she was hugging him "-come." For a moment he stood there like a complete tit with no idea of what to do, but eventually buried common sense gave up on his brain taking any part in the proceedings and he wrapped his right arm around her, the other still being occupied with the crutch. She was warm, and her hair smelled wonderful, and then she kissed him on the cheek. This wasn't how he was used to dates ending, but at the moment it felt like the right thing to do. No need to rush, after all it wasn't like either of them were going anywhere. He thought about returning the cheek kiss, but she stepped back before he made up his mind as to whether it was a good idea or not. It probably didn't matter, at least not much? He hoped not.

"Well uh... I'll... I'll head off then," Aulus managed, also avoiding eye contact. "We can make arrangements for meeting up again, doing something again that is, back -" careful! "- at work so... uh... safe trip back!" With this said he gave a warm, though slightly awkward smile and turned away in the direction of the garage he'd left the car in. The air was quite cool now and his burned hand wasn't happy about it even through the bandages so he slipped it into his jacket pocket.... Hayes' jacket pocket. There was something inside it. Aulus pulled out the small rectangle of card once he was around a corner and paused to inspect it.

A movie ticket, a few years ago.

"Jules and I used to go out a lot."

Well, he could ask about that when eh got back, at the same time as giving his partner as massive a hug as he could muster.

Musings about the other male rocket soon drifted back out of his head, and by the time he made it to the car he was replaying the whole date in his mind, making sure he hadn't done anything unforgivable. He couldn't have, right? Claire had enjoyed herself, she'd said so and she'd looked sincere. What reason could she have for lying? He couldn't think of one, so maybe it really had gone well.

It had gone well.

She'd enjoyed it.

They'd go something else together soon.

Grinning like an idiot Aulus pulled out of the car park and set off for home; D-day hadn't turned out so bad after all!
