Jerry stumbled backward as the light faded and the ground seemed to nearly drop out from under them, giving a yelp as he lost his feet with an 'oomf'.
It took him a moment to regain his senses, catching his breath from their musical interlude that seemed to ahve shaken the very ground... adjusted glasses reveiled a stairway leading down into...
His stomach clenched, mind still buzzing from the emotional boost their musical moment had given him, "You're only a daay awayy..." He mumbled distantly to himself as he felt his body pull himself back to his feet on its own. Eyes glazed over, he raised Roar up properly, aiming down the stairway to clear the way with a fresh earsplitting burst.
"I think we found it's ah... gooey center, ahahaahahahaha..." His mouth said on its own, but he made no move to head down into the blackened basement himself, just yet.

"Gooey what's it now?" Robert pulled away, realizing the rubble wasn't coming from above, and took hold of Petra's hand. "Well then, let's go get stuck in it, kids!"
He barged in, scythe flinging wildly in front of him, shadowlings falling left and right.

"What, you don't actually mean going down there..." but it was too late, and Robert waded right in. Basement full of shadows. Great.
"...We better go after him. Come on, Jerry. Might as well bring some sunshine to the rest of the place."

"I... I c-can't," Jerry all but whispered, "I... It... they... it's..." His confidence was on edge, merely hugging his weapon to his chest as the shadows closed in around them.

"You can," Harrison said, taking a swipe at the seize of shadows, boiling up at their feet and sides while Jerry clutched Roar. "You got to. I'm no good at this, I can't...my range isn't the same as yours. Look. Nothing's gonna harm you, not while I'm around. So don't worry so much."
Another kick and jab, knocking them back from Jerry but not getting the better end of the deal.
"Just don't stop firing."

"I..." His stomach was clenching, Robert was already down the stairs, Petra was close to following... He had figured they could drive them all into a classroom and then blast away there, but... but honestly, if they wanted to go into the thick of it...
The only way to go about it was down.
His expression twisted into a watery smile as he glanced up at Harrison, but any thanks or response was cut short as a shadow leaped at his friend's head. "Watch it!" He barely managed to bark before Roar was up again, blasting past Harrison's ears to dissipate the creatures behind him.
"Right. Just. Just. K-k-keep an eye out and... and.. if I... I... " His voice dropped down, praying Petra and Robert were too distracted to overhear, "Look like I'm going to... to faint or something just... just give me a smack, ok?" He pulled himself to his feet before taking a few steps down towards the blackness below.

Somehow, she didn't seem surprised when there was a sudden barking roar, and suddenly splinters of wood and concrete were raining down on them, a hole blasted in the floor not a few feet in front of them. Without thinking, Petra pressed hard against the large, protective expanse of Robert's chest, immediately comforted by the arms that wrapped around her, protecting her from the rubble. As the dust settled, she lifted her head from where she'd buried her face in the dip in his collarbone, slowly relaxing her squinted eyes to look over at where Jerry had fallen. Only after she'd given him a concerned look, watching him get to his feet did she slowly press away from her fiance to peer down into the darkness of the hole. Although an unorthodox description, in this case she agreed -- the school itself seemed to wallow in an overcast light, not quite bright enough to let them see clearly, the shadowlings making it even more difficult. Even so, staring down into the hole, it made the rest of the school look positively sunny. The darkness was almost comical, a black congealed soup, and she found herself shivering a little, a carnal reluctance to get close rising from her gut up into her throat, constricting.
She remembered the room from the haunted house, with the floor too soft not to be organic. Petra wasn't keen on feeling the sensation of being swallowed again. Unfortunately, it seemed they had little choice.
Pulling away a little as Robert started down into the hole, the moon hunter lingered behind with the other two, her blank expression twisting into one of discomfort. Jerry looked like he agreed. Lifting her eyes slowly from the hole, she focused on the hushed conversation between him and Harrison, listening quietly. She hadn't had much chance to have any close interaction with Jerry, not since the island -- although she was relatively familiar with his mannerisms, watching him now, Petra was at a loss. Glancing between Harrison and Jerry, she tried to discern what was going on, listening quietly for a few moments before reaching up to rest her hand on his shoulder for a moment.
"It's ok Jerry," she replied, voice full of unwavering confidence. Releasing his shoulder, she followed Robert into the dark, her fingers white as she clutched Cain in front of her.

Robert was oblivious to Jerry's moment of fear. When caught in a situation so dire, so dark, and really just full of evil, Robert's mind turned one-tracked. Kill, or be killed.
So he killed.

Another near-miss. Harrison didn't have time to clear out the ringing.
You're lucky he's a good shot, B0nez groaned, still miserable but pushing past it for the mission.
Who, Jerry?
Roar. I'm not saying you would make a bad headless haunt, though.
Harrison had no intention of haunting anything.
Jerry looked ready to go again, which was something. Harrison stuck close by, pointing B0nez at anything else that got too close. He could keep an eye out. But the second part, what kind of request was that?
"Yeah, sure," he said anyway, giving a terse nod in agreement with Petra.

Jerry's face was white as he nodded to Petra, nodding a bit too enthusiastically, and grinning a bit too broadly "R-right! Of course! We'll be fine, It's just a... a horrible black pit of uncertainty ahahahaha-AAH!" He didn't so much descend the stairs as slip and go tumbling past Robert, Roar clattering behind him uselessly down into the shadows.

That was the problem with having two swords. Good for stabbing more than one thing at once. Impossible to reach out and stop someone from falling down the stairs.
"Watch out- s**t! Robert, behind-!"
Harrison hurried down after Jerry. There was a small pause as the shadows scattered, to avoid getting squashed, and then Harrison was practically digging through them.

From down in the darkness, there was a wild, blood-curdling scream that no grown man should have been making.
At the very least, it was punctuated by wild bazooka fire.

She had to move quickly to avoid Jerry's sudden stumble, pressing up against the wall with a finger's distance to spare as the poor guy tumbled, feeling the rush of air it caused. At first she was surprised, blinking a little as she stared down after him, unfortunately unable to see past a few feet. With the sound of his bazooka going off, however, came the sudden clarity of what had happened, and she winced a little as she heard his body come in contact with the stairs, watching Harrison rush past her before following herself. "Is everyone alright?" she called into the darkness, concern lacing the monotone of her voice. Still, there was an edge of practicality to it, as if she held on desperately to the logical responses -- if not, the rising fear that slithered down her spine and pooled, cold and slimy, in her gut might bubble up.
From the sound of Jerry's scream, for him, it already had.
"Four!"
The word came without her thinking about it, and she leaped the last few stairs, misjudging the distance and wincing as she hit concrete, stumbling a little in the dark. Pushing away from the wall as soon as she was able, Petra felt around for Jerry, looking for Roar's flare and praying she didn't get herself caught in a blast.

Robert watched first Jerry, then Petra, and maybe even Harrison go by, and his face pinched in anger.
"OI." He bellowed, storming forward with big, heavy steps. "Haven't you guys ever played a god damned video game? LET THE ********' TANK GO FIRST."
He let out the most monstrous of yells as he barrelled through the darkness, taking out shadowlings like he was slicing bread.

A moment of silence followed the bazooka's explosive noise and Robert's bellows, everything was dark and still in the basement. And then, in one corner...a soft piano note. And another. A familiar tune began to play...
