"Did they hurt you?" he asked, his tone turning urgent. "I know about the dagger, but did they do anything else to you? I kept looking for you and Amrita in the hub, but you were never there when I was," he complained. "And you weren't in the battle field when we went to go get the people the hunters had kidnapped back," he added in a murmur, leaning down so he was close enough she could hear and no one else could. "Either time. Did you meet the Soul Harvester?"

"Oh?" She sounded surprised, "How did you know about the dagg--oh! You could see us right?" She had forgotten about that part. Grimacing, Xiu shook her head slowly, the memory of the fight coming back to her. "No. At least, I wasn't as badly hurt as Remi and Amrita were." Her stomach clenched, but she quickly shoved these thoughts aside. They were fine now--all of Team Mafia was now safe and sound.
Thank Jack for that.
The baku looked back up at Roch, her brows pulling together at the unfamiliar name. Soul Harvester? She shook her head no.

"She was... um--" He tried to think of how to describe her as they moved closer to the front of the line. "Super powerful. See, you mighta fought them, but they were kidnapping others. The first time they had Lattice, Edel, Vieve, and Lizzy," he said quietly. "Soul Harvester brought a bunch of us to behind the--"
They were at the front of the line, so he lowered his voice more. "Behind the house. We fought the hunters and I tried to free the Soul Harvester cuz they caught her, and ah... well, this happened twice. We had to cross it twice, and the second time instead of dy--er, what happened the first time, the hunter whipped us for trying to free the Soul Harvester they caught."
It sounded confusing.

There was so much to take in. Soul Harvester, Hunters, weird time warp...
Hold it.
"They had Lizzy's group?! The Hunt--" She cut herself off, realizing that her voice had grown far above a whisper in her shock. Sure, they were all safe and sound now, but just the very thought of her friends and classmates in the hands of those Hunters chilled her. The ones that had attacked Team Mafia were merciless--what would they have done to Lizzy's group?
A deep frown etched itself on her face at the thought. "If I run into them again, I definitely won't hesitate to fight."

Oh... right... he should have figured she'd get pissed over Lizzy. Then again, considering he'd made Lizzy cry just the other day-- Ahhhh, he was so jacked, he thought as the gate opened and they were bustled into one of the roller coaster carts. But it HAD distracted her from noticing his slip about dying. She didn't need to know that, she'd probably yell at him or something.
The roller coaster crept up the hill slowly, jerkily, then started forward at breakneck speeds, twisting and turning and flipping upside down, all so fast that he didn't even get the chance to bellow.
It was just as awesome as he'd imagined.

There wasn't much time for Xiu to prod Roch for more details before they were ushered into the roller coaster car, though the baku was clearly still thinking about it, even as the ride looped and twisted, throwing her from side to side. The various changes in expression on her face--from irritation, to concern, to confusion--was kind of amusing, considering that she was on a roller coaster that was zooming at a ridiculous speed.
Well, at least she wasn't shrieking in terror.
...She was aware of that uncomfortable dropping sensation though.

He was laughing as he climbed out, turning to offer her his hand to help her get out as well. "Thanks," he said. "You get to pick the next thing we do," he added generously, looking around the massive park with anticipation.

Well, even if she had been distracted during the whole ride, it was still worth going on it in the end considering how happy Roch looked. She smiled and gave a little bob of her head. "No problem," Xiu assured him, though she was still trying to get that uncomfortable falling sensation out of her limbs. It would take a while.
And hmm, she got to pick where to go next? Another ride? She wasn't much of a ride fan, but maybe...
"Could we check out the games? I was thinking maybe I could bring something back for some friends." It had been a while since she got to play any of those games.

"Yeah!" he said, switching speeds quickly. "I've been practicing my shooting--er, once, at least, with Mot! I almost hit it!" Yeah, that was really impressive, he thought. But he was still eager to do it. "They're over there," he said, pointing and reaching for her hand. "If they got lots of shooting games I'm gonna haveta bring Mot here."
The booths were bright and gaudy, and he found himself staring blankly at all the toys and strange things hanging off of them. "Which one first?" he asked her, since he had no clue which to pick. There were bottles and hoops to throw on them, shooting games, racing games, all sorts of stuff.

Despite herself, Xiu couldn't help but grin. Roch really was like an excitable kid, wasn't he? "If you want to go check out the shooting games...let's go for it? I'm not sure how I'd do, but..." She trailed off with a light laugh. She had never tried using a gun before, but she supposed that it wouldn't hurt to try. It was just a game, after all!
She eyed the booths thoughtfully, her gaze falling onto the shooting game closest to them. It looked like a simple "shoot as many targets as you can" type of game--a seed for ten shots, with at least 7 successful shots earning a prize.
Hmmmm. "What do you think? Up for it?" The prizes were cute--perhaps she could bring some back home for her friends if she managed to win any! ...She could even get one for Sparrow to give to Wren as a gift!

"Sure," he said, digging some seeds out of the wallet he'd taken from his dad and tossing them to the man behind the counter. He grabbed one of the guns and lined up his shot, hoping not to make an a** out of himself in front of her.
Not... you know, that it mattered, since this wasn't a date or anything. He still grinned like a fiend when he hit seven of the ten targets. "I uh... don't care," he admitted. "You can pick it out!"

"It's your prize!" She laughed, giving him a little poke before sweeping her hand towards the prizes, "You should pick! Besides, I'm really just playing to bring things back for the others." Some of these plushies were actually really cute.
Xiu took up the gun next, making a face. She...wasn't going to do well, she knew--that was a face. With a little sigh, she raised the gun, aimed as well as she could, and fired.
...And she didn't do too bad, considering.

Roch shrugged. "But what would I do with a stuffed toy other than sacrifice it to Jackdammit?" he asked logically. "Pick something, you can give it away when we get back to school. I just want to play," he said with a grin, dropping another few seeds on the table and grabbing the gun.
He almost got all of them the second time. "Er... pick two things, then," he said, shrugging.

"If you're certain...thank you, Roch!" Though really, she was feeling kind of guilty--it was his birthday after all, not hers! If she could find a gift for him today, that would be wonderful, but she had a feeling that it would have to wait another day. There was only so much that one would get at an amusement part.
She slid one more seed forward, deciding that it was worth failing one for time just for the sake of playing again. After that, she would pick out two of the prizes, and they could either check out the other games or go on another ride. As she only managed to hit one target this time, Xiu turned to Roch and laughed, "Well, I got that one that evaded you!"
And by "another ride" she really mean "as many rides as the birthday boil wanted", even if that was out of her usual comfort zone.

"It's teamwork, pure teamwork," he teased her. "Do we want to go on another ride now? Otherwise we'll be carrying too many things to fit in the cart things," he said as she picked the prizes. "We can do something slower if you want!" Because she hadn't seemed too happy with the roller coaster. Shame, he thought, the roller coaster fit his pace to a T.
Then again, that sort of explained a lot, now didn't it? "Screecups? Carrie's Wheel? The Tunnel?" he added, grinning to show he was teasing. "NOT the mirror maze. Jack no," he added quickly, looking a bit pale. "Or the haunted house."
