Beloved Werewolf

A slightly bitter thought came to Shehk's mind as she curled up tighter underneath Sammy's jacket, whimpering pathetically. She nearly nipped at Sammy when the ghoul patted her down, hobbling up to her feet while her muscles rebelled against her. It was difficult to move with a cold body.

She'd only really made it through Christmas because of Nuk. The pricolici looked over at the boil with a sort of sad look on her face - as sad as her canid face could be, really, before she worked at shaking her fur dry. It wasn't a fun process, to say the least. But she seemed to not be willing to move until Nukpana joined the 'game' they'd been put up to.

I will free myself.

I am a Liberator

She couldn't speak it out loud. She had no voice as a wolf to do so, but the thought was there. She knew. But what she wanted to liberate wasn't what Sammy had been thinking of, or even what Toby was considering. Shehk was going to liberate herself. From what?

It would never be said.

Would you rather be a liberator, or one of the enslaved?...

Any monster worth their should probably should have known the answer by heart, yet as she listened quietly to Sammy's soft encouragements to Shehk, mumbling an absent "I think he'll be alright...", Toby remained painfully uncertain. She wasn't foolish enough to take the choice lightly; no, if anything, she had a creeping suspicion it would effect them all more drastically than they could imagine.

I don't want to be enslaved was all she could think as it sank in, involuntarily shuddering with no regards to the cold. She liked helping people, sure, but it was hardly the same thing. Enslavement carried subnotes of misery and will breaking and abuse. It wasn't voluntary at all. It was horrible, and choiceless, and just... no no no, she couldn't do it. Or she wouldn't, at the very least, if she could avoid it altogether with a simple, painless decision now.

That resolved, process of elimination left only one lone option, though she still could not yet see the shape or identity of its frame. Whether or not she could fulfill the requirements of a liberator remained unclear, but what else was there to do?...

... I guess I'd have to be a liberator, then.

Still, even knowing left her inwardly wary.

It stirred a very foreboding knot in her stomach she couldn't place.

Nuk hadn't been keen on playing this game in the first place, and likewise was the last of them to start moving towards the track. As first Shehk, then Iris moved onto the ice, the skinwalker already felt this was a terrible idea, his hackles raised as the scareon stepped up to walk the path. Almost immediately, there was a problem -- there was nothing Nuk could do but watch as the pricolici fell into the water, crawling out a freezing little ball. The undead ghoul already had problems with the cold, and he could see the water only made it worse.

"Jack this."

Glancing back at the fu dogs as they spoke, he ignored them for the most part, instead approaching Shehk and dropping his leather jacket on top of her, reaching down to pick her up not a moment later.

"Lets go."

He wasn't even gonna answer the fu dogs. He was just going to liberate Shehk from the cold, and that was gonna be his answer.

Shehk had become a bundle of cold wet fur, shivering, and now jackets. She made a confused noise when Nukpana dropped his coat onto her, looking up at the skinwalker - who was will in his human-esque body - with a sort of pathetic keening noise before he reached down to pick her up, curling up into a ball in his arms.

Despite how 'positive' the situation was to her, Shehk didn't even have the energy to wag her tail, not that she was really inclined to after her dip into the water. There was no resistance to being carried like an infant in Nuk's arms, just licking his chin in a sort of grateful-puppy manner before she settled in his arms, still as he carried her away and beyond the doors.

Off to where, however...?

Well that... wasn't quite what Toby had been expecting out of Nuk's "first" move; in fact, though she managed to hide it (... for the most part), the skinwalker's complete defiance of rules struck her as downright alarming. That couldn't possibly be alright! What on earth was he thinking?! And yet, deep down, perhaps she was even jealous of that brazen courage to throw out the rulebook. Poor Shehk had been spared more suffering because of it, which she could only respect, and--

Crackpopsnap

Whatever internal monologue the falsicorn had going was promptly interrupted by a small but unmistakable sound as she jerked her head over and, much to her surprise, found that she could see a hazy figure staggering out on the blue-black ice. At last, it seemed that her senses were in order again-- and it couldn't have come at a more opportune time, because not a half second later, Iris lost his footing and began to slide out of control again, sprawled on his belly, vocalizing miserably. There was no doubt in her mind that he'd go under momentarily-- but what could she do? Only canines were allowed on the track! Rules and regulations were still something to respect!

... But what if someone dear was at stake?

Did that make it okay to rebel? Was disobedience acceptable for a noble cause?

In a perfect world, she would've had more time to think about it, but Toby did all she felt she could right then and, in a quick action that felt completely unlike herself, she threw the empty harness from hand into bag, and promptly tore the skull pin from her collar. There wasn't even a sickening crunch of a whine, just the sudden CRACK of hard hooves planting on the ground and a quick shove of her parcel's shoulder strap around her newly elongated neck.

In the words of someone surprisingly wise, Jack this.

"Iris, stay still!" was the only warning before the suddenly-giant mutant unicorn came thundering onto the ice, not daring to stop as her hoof beats cracked every step beneath her, to snatch the poor scareon by his scruff in her teeth and proceed to leap over the remaining thin ice to the other side. Once there? Hell, she didn't even stop. She just kept on running, bag around her neck, straight through the gaping black hollow of the door.

((Toby has stolen/rescued Iris and exited, whoops. orz))

Sammy moved aside as Nuk joined her by Shehks shivering form, where his jacket took place of her own as she stood up frowning softly at the whole situation. Soon Nuk was scooping Shehk up walking right across the ice, rules where the last thing the Skinwalker ever followed even barely in sporting events. She watched as they went ice groaning horribly under their combined weight.

Suddenly Iris was skidding and Sammy moved to help, but she hardly had too. Her jaw dropped as Toby shot by, a beastly looking Unicorn thundering across already cracking ice, leaping across with Iris like it was child play.

For a moment she stood there shocked, then it clicked, she was still standing on the wrong side!

"WAIT UP!" Running onto the ice bridge still crackling from Toby's run she took the first few steps before leaping, not as far as Toby, but her boots hit thin ice shattering it apart sending her into the water; she didn't stop. She continued on stomping across the floor slowly making her way across, a single bone fist punching up through the thin ice to drag her soaking wet out of the ice.

"Liberation thy name is Lee." She grunted before stalking into the darkness to see what fate had in store.
