Herryk chuckled, wrapping a thick arm around Freya's waist in return. She wasn't so bad, really. He could vaguely understand why their first meeting had turned so sour. Herryk knew he was a little difficult to get along with when faced with a competition, and he would try harder in the future not to be such a jerk about it.
He wasn't sure what she was talking about with the princess and the castle, but it didn't matter. He was having fun with Freya. It felt nice to be able to laugh and tease Freya without her getting upset, and it was equally nice to have her tease him without him feeling upset, as well.
"Herryk is glad Freya is his friend," he said earnestly, his voice getting a little squeaky in the midst of his comment. He covered it up with a cough before offering a smile to the Valkyrie. His attention was grabbed by the waiter that bustled back up to the table in order to drop off some forks and napkins before swishing away again.

Freya was a physical person by nature, and she truly enjoyed the sensation of contact with others. When she realized she was curled up in Herryk's arm, however, something felt distinctly too enjoyable, and it hurt. It hurt, somewhere in the area where her heart was, though she knew it wasn't actually her heart. She never understood why heartache of the emotional sort happened in that area - she always tried to think it through and understand just what part of her body was clutching and cringing as the emotions welled within her.
She never understood it.
Her head slumped to the side, and she took a deep, calming breath, before deciding to just enjoy the moment. If she couldn't have what she really wanted, she wasn't going to starve herself of the attention she could enjoy now.
This was, of course, a horrible idea. She did it anyway.
Tilting her head up to look at Herryk, there was a soft, kind of frightening honesty in her expression. She looked just a little sad, and just a little yearning, but all in all it just wasn't the strong, normal expression she usually held.
"Friend." She muttered quietly, sucking in a quick breath. "I am glads you're my.. friend, too. I am glads yeh and I.."
Ow. It hurt. She looked away, and the pain ebbed. There, that felt better. Diversion and avoidance was obviously the right path here.

Herryk was confused. He saw the emotions flickering on Freya's face but he wasn't sure what they meant. Did he say something wrong? Had he been too forward in hugging her closer? The Draugr remained silent for a long time and merely gazed into her pretty blue eyes, tilting his head to the side as he tried to figure out what he'd done wrong, or what he'd said wrong.
Ghouls were confusing and Herryk didn't understand them.
"Did Herryk say something wrong?" he asked softly, lifting the hand that wasn't wrapped around her waist to gently tap her chin. He didn't think he had, but he couldn't understand why she'd gotten so quiet, why she looked so melancholy. They were friends, right? Friends could talk to each other about things that were bothering them, right? It was so strange to see the vibrant Freya morph into this ...quietly sad ghoul that he was holding close to him.
He was struck by such a strong punch of familiarity, one that he couldn't shake. He was so confused as to what was going on, worried that he'd said something to upset Freya, baffled by the feelings that her touch invoked... and the expression on her face was really getting to him. He wasn't sure why.
"Don't be sad, ladybird."

Oh, and now she'd gone and worried him, too. Way to go, Freya. She caught his finger as it tapped her chin, and held it captive. At least in that one little gesture, she retained some sense of power again, and she smirked up at him mischievously.
"No, silly baby boil." Did that sound far more affectionate than she meant it to? Ah well. "Yeh didn't do anything. I was just thinkings about some things. Don't worry so much, yeh'll get wrinkles and yehr baby face will get all smushy." She reached up and smushed his face with both hands, until his teeth showed and his eyes were open wide. It was unmistakably hilarious, but all she could do was grin at it.
"I'M HUNGRY." She dropped her hands and fisted the table, in a sudden and very unexpected gesture. As if they somehow knew, the waiter was a step away from the table when she'd done it, holding the first of the lobsters in his hands. Her sudden scream had him jumping in fright, and almost dropping them to the floor.
Not that it would have stopped her from eating them, but.. "Hurray!" Both hands flew up into the air in happiness at the arrival, and she settled in, preparing to eat her lobster while quite easily pressed against the big baby boil beside her.

Herryk laughed, a hearty sound that came from the stomach. He took no offense at the term she'd used. It hadn't come across as being harsh or even teasing much like it had the first time she'd called him the name. Herryk was over it. He had much more fun with this sweet, funny, laughing, boisterous and beautiful ghoul. He kind of thought that she was having more fun with this more ...laid back Herryk, too.
That laugh kept going when she slammed her fists onto the table -- it was almost as if she magically summoned the waiter. The poor boil held two lobsters, one of them nearly crashing to the floor as he jumped in fear. At the expression on the waiter's face, Herryk's laugh grew in volume and he clutched his stomach with one hand.
Shaking his head at Freya, Herryk shoved both of the lobsters in front of her. He kept that one thick arm wrapped around her though. It was comfortable and it felt incredibly perfect right where it was.
"Eat up," he teased, those bright whites flashing. "Freya will need her energy."

Freya broke a claw off the lobster put in front of her, and waved it up at Herryk threateningly. "I always has energy!" She stated, before bringing the claw back down and pulling it apart. Then, as if on an afterthought, she tilted her head up at him while popping a piece of lobster in her mouth.
"What will I needs energy for?" Then the taste of lobster hit her, as did her attention span. "OHHHH, is good. I have not has lobster in.. in.." She couldn't even remember the last time she'd had one of these. Papa had always told them it was too expensive. In fact, did Herryk even know how expensive these things were?
She lifted the other piece of claw to her lips, and sucked the meat out while thinking about it. This was not the.. most ladylike way to eat lobster, but she hadn't yet crossed over to the threshold of 'must look perfect at all times in front of this boil' just yet. She was still too busy enjoying the feel of his arm around her body.
"Herryk, are yeh sures we can pay for all of the lobsters? I don't have to has all four, yeh know."

She was making an adorable mess of herself and the sight of her caused the goofiest smile to stretch across his lips.
"Herryk thought that he and Freya might wander around for a while," Herryk began with a shrug, pinching a piece of random lobster meat that had landed on his chest before popping it into his mouth. It was pretty tasty, he supposed, but he enjoyed watching her eat it more than he himself enjoyed eating it.
When she brought up the topic of payment, Herryk shook his head. Herryk was usually a terribly frugal boil, and he didn't splurge on many things. He'd made a nice sum of seeds during Florestival, and he'd also woken up in Halloweentown clutching a small satchel of seeds, as well. He wasn't sure where they'd come from but it mattered not.
Slipping his free hand down the front of his loincloth (smooth move, Herryk), he wrestled around for a brief moment before producing that small satchel. He tossed it on to the table, grinning at the metallic sound it made as the seeds clanged together.
"Freya can eat as many lobsters as Herryk can pay for," he said earnestly. She could sit here all day until he was broke as far as he was concerned. As long as she kept smiling and laughing, he didn't mind at all.

Freya glanced at Herryk, caught a hint of that goofy smile, and glanced away. Even if he had no idea what was going on, she was pretty well versed in that face. She took an empty leg and turned back around to him, wiggling it right under his nose as if threatening to stick it in.
"That's very sweet of yeh, but yeh shouldn't spoil me so. Normally, I woulds just be like OKAY I EATS ALL THE LOBSTERS AND YEH PAY - but I can tells yehr something special - " She paused, trying to reword herself so she didn't sound.. "Ach.. I mean, just, shouldn't be takings advantage of it. So next times, when I gets my allowance, I takes you somewhere. I can't buy four lobsters, but we can get something else."
She stopped tormenting him with the leg, and beamed up at him, though her brilliant watted smile was somewhat marred by the gleam of her skin around her mouth. Yup. Lobster was a messy sport.

Herryk snorted loudly, eyeballing the buttery skin around Freya's mouth. Her lips gleamed, too, and Herryk grew slightly distracted by the sight. An almost dazed look was on his face as he stared. Once he realized what he was doing he blinked rapidly. Clearing his throat he lifted his eyes to look directly into hers. That slight movement was subtle but obvious if she'd been watching. It confused him. It confused him a lot.
"Herryk does not mind spoiling Freya. Freya is fun to watch." Almost against his will his attention went back to her mouth, one finger lifting to rub against the dip under her lower lip. Picking up a healthy amount of butter, the Draugr stuffed his finger in his mouth. Butter was pretty tasty. No wonder she was enjoying herself.
"If Freya wants to take Herryk somewhere another time, it is a deal." He wasn't going to argue with her if she wanted to spend more time with him. He really was enjoying herself. "Where does Freya have in mind?" The question was posed idly -- he was interested in hearing her thoughts and ideas, but he wasn't asking for her to set anything in stone.

Though he wouldn't understand why, it was a very bad idea to try and get Freya to answer any question that required thinking, after the stunt he'd just pulled. Her smile dropped just slightly when his finger brushed across the bottom of her lip, and tingles ran through every nerve of her body. That shouldn't have felt so nice - and the idea that Herryk wasn't doing that on purpose was hard to believe. Maybe he was playing her for a fool. Maybe he was trying to -
And suddenly, Freya decided she didn't care. If Herryk was just toying with her emotions, then he'd won the battle at that moment. She wasn't in the mood to play coy anymore. After all, when fighting the battle of the sexes, the battle itself was the fun part. Win or lose, she was going to enjoy this.
That still didn't mean she had the mental capacity to answer his question, though.
She pulled her lower lip into her mouth, letting it sit between her teeth, and one side of her smile rose back up again. Then she rose one hand, crooked a finger, and signalled that Herryk should come closer.
Uh oh.

Glancing around their position in the restaurant, Herryk was confused for a moment. If she had the need to tell him a secret, they were secluded enough. Freya wouldn't even have to speak very loud if she had something important to tell him. Regardless, and because he was in such a good mood thanks to the ghoul sitting next to him, Herryk did as she asked and moved closer. Freya must have some sort of super secret destination in mind that she didn't want to run the risk of someone overhearing.
This close, Herryk could see the striations in Freya's eyes. He could see individual eyelashes. He could smell the butter on her skin. Suddenly Herryk felt as if all of his senses were heightened.
It was kind of scary.
"Hmm?" His voice had dropped a few octaves without his permission. What in Jack's name was going on?

When he bent closer, Freya did indeed seem to want to tell him a secret. She was bending to the side, so her lips were at his ear, and she put her hand on his shoulder to pull herself up enough to reach the position. Her own cheek rested against his. It was like holding a cool glass to a blushing face. It felt so nice.
"I have a secret." She whispered into his ear. Her lips barely brushed against the poor, helpless appendage, so that she could feel her own breath bouncing back at her. "Can you guess what it is?"
The battle was always the most fun, but maybe that was because Freya was really good at fighting this particular type of battle.

From the way that Herryk was gulping and clearing his throat, anyone that passed by might think that he had something lodged in his throat. A piece of lobster, perhaps. Quite the contrary. He wasn't going to lie, and really there was no way to hide how his body responded to the touch of her lips on his ear. There also was no way to hide how freaked out Herryk was about it.
He wasn't quite sure what her secret was, but he had one of his own.
"Freya," he choked out, frantically shifting in his seat, "Herryk is not sure what Freya's secret is, but there is something wrong with Herryk. He is sick. There is something wrong."
It probably wasn't how she'd expected him to react, but he was not versed in the games that boils and ghouls played.

If there could have been any magical way to confirm that Herryk wasn't playing games with Freya's emotions.. maybe this was it. Even if it wasn't.. it certainly worked. She pulled away, looked at his bulging eyes and legitimately frightened face, and her lips thinned to something that was half frown, and half smile. She just. He was just. WHY was he just so. Mmmmf.
She pulled away and put one hand on his cheek, then the other. Then she took a deep breath through her teeth, and tried not to grin too hard.
"Okay. I told yeh I would talks about this another time, and I will. But maybe just a little bits right now, because I don't wants yeh thinking yehr sick while we're together. So listens to Freya now, listens carefully." She brushed a thumb across his lips, then clamped down to stop herself. Focus, Freya. Focus.
"You are a very handsome boils, okay? And I am a very pretty ghouls." Modest much? "Yehr body reacts to being around me. Wants to do things like touch, and kiss, and smell. Is okay. Really, I feels the same way. Yehr warm inside when yeh shouldn't be. Is natural. Yehr not sick." She pursed her lips together and smirked. "Yeh just a boil."

Herryk shook his head frantically.
"No. Freya is wrong. Lattice did not make Herryk feel like there were foxfires in his belly dancing around or... or..." he gestured helplessly at his lap as if she could read his mind. Well, she didn't really have to. It was pretty obvious, "and neither did Freya's sister Miss Hel. Both Lattice and Hel are pretty ghouls, so that is not right. Herryk is sick." He almost looked like he was going to bolt. This was very upsetting to the boil.
Her words did hold some reassurance, though, in that what he was feeling was perfectly normal for any young boil to feel. It just... had never happened around any other ghoul before.
Ever.
"If Herryk is not sick and this is natural... then it is Freya's fault." His tone did hold some accusation though there was no bite in his words. Thinking back about what she'd said earlier, his brows lowered.
"Is this the sex and the intimates that Freya mentioned earlier?"
Probably not the best place and time to bring up that topic, Herryk. Sliiiiick.
