Ginevra rolled her eyes for the billionth time, then quickly covered it up again by pretending a flying bird had suddenly caught her attention. This guy she met... He was a complete stiff! There was no way she was going to impress Draconis with the likes of him! Then again, they were sort of... similar. Yes, she could see it now. Silent, unresponsive, unimpressed, blue. Perhaps that's why, out of a sea of normals, she had chosen Enzo in the first place. Gah! Is this what living and being mated to Draconis is always going to be like? Then again, Ginevra was much closer to Draconis than she was to this male. She had made him warm up to her already. He'd never be like THIS to her, even if he was to other foxes.

"I'm so glad you've agreed to this trip, Enzo!" she said with mock-excitement. Could he really not tell that she was lying? The only response she received was a quick nod. How had she gotten him to agree to this in the first place? He's impossible!

He was rather infuriating, but Ginevra refused to give anything away. She was so close to victory!

And suddenly there she stood: the love of his life or whatever. But, what was this? She had someone with her? Darn it, this practically spoiled everything! There was no clear winner, and not he had to keep Ezra around a bit longer. Draconis glanced at the female beside him momentarily. Yeah, not bloody likely. But Draconis knew he couldn't win by leaving her now and finding someone else, not while Ginevra's got this guy. That settled it, then. Draconis was just going o have to sabotage his mate's relationship with that blue, runt of a normal [although, in reality he was probably a normal sized normal].

Draconis stopped walking, Ezra doing the same beside him, and waited for Ginevra to reach him. He mostly watched this other fox, but for a moment he glanced down at Ezra. There was something strange in her expression that he couldn't quite pinpoint. Perhaps she was just intimidated or something. Understandable. Ginevra was pretty intimidating. But there really seemed to be.. something else.

Draconis decided to ignore it and turned back to Ginevra's companion. But suddenly he had the same look too. The normal's eyes were examining him [or Ezra, or both?] and something was going on through his mind. Draconis couldn't shake the feeling that it was the same thing going on in Ezra's head. But what was up with those two?

Ginevra rounded the corner, Enzo in tow, but she wasn't paying much attention to where he was at the moment. Finally she could see Draconis. What a perfect knight in shining armor that guy was. With his... normal Ginevra replacement. Hmph. Just proves he couldn't keep her out of his thoughts much even while trying to pick another vixen to woo.

She was ignoring the hypocritical implications to condemning Draconis for his choice of vixen, naturally.

Ginevra finally reached them, examining the vixen closely. She was.. pretty enough? No, no she wasn't. She was no comparison to Ginevra herself. What was Draconis even thinking, picking a vixen like that? But, she was courteous enough. "Oh, Draconis, how long it has been!" She had to keep this up, for the sake of her 'relations' with Enzo. "Oh, and please meet my good friend Enzo!" Ginevra glanced down at him with an expression that hopefully conveyed fondness of some sort. She doubted Draconis would fall for it. Ginevra wasn't so oblivious as to miss the strange look on his face. A strange look he was directing at Draconis's new 'friend.' Well, that'll be explained soon enough.

"Indeed," Draconis replied, nuzzling Ginevra's cheek in a friendly fashion. The gesture was common among other foxes, but not between them. Best to keep up appearances, though, for Ezra. He then turned to the fox she had brought along. "Nice to meet you, Enzo. And this is my friend, Ezra." Draconis was about to continue when the vixen beside him interrupted. He turned and was just barely able to keep himself from glaring at her. She wasn't supposed to say anything! Draconis was able to stop himself, though, and kept a cool look on his face the entire time.

"We've met," was all she said at first. What? That didn't even make sense. She can't possibly know Ginevra already.

Draconis glanced down at her, then realized she hadn't been talking about Ginevra at all. Ezra was looking at Enzo. "Have you now?" Draconis decided to ask, in a voice that suggested he was interested. And he slightly was, it was something he had never expected. Then he glanced at Enzo and noticed a familiar tattoo. "Oh, you're both part of Kousetsu, then?" He asked once he had realized. So that's how they knew each other. Mystery solved. He lost interest again. Funny, though, that he and Ginevra had both picked up foxes from the same tribe that both looked like the other.

They really were meant for each other, weren't they.

"That's actually not all it is."

Ginevra glanced between Enzo and Ezra, and it was now Enzo speaking. "We're not just tribe mates, we're siblings."

"I... would never have guess." And it was true. The two looked nothing alike. And what a total and complete coincidence. It was just getting weird now, actually. Ginevra exchanged a look with Draconis, an eyebrow raised.

"Understandable." The female spoke this time. "We take after different parents, and they are both quite opposite each other. But to the extent where they're completely compatible all the same. Kind of reminds me of the two of you, except you two aren't mated."

Ginevra almost couldn't stifle her laughter. This vixen. She had them pegged. She looked at Draconis again and the act was up. It was time for her to ruin the day of these two, poor normals. "Actually, funny you should mention that," Ginevra said. She turned to her mate. "I've just realized, Draconis, that I've just loved you my whole life!" Such an obvious display of disgusting affection. Well, it was better than informing Enzo and Ezra that the entirety of their relations had been a complete scam. Come on. Ginevra wasn't heartless.

Draconis had to hide a smirk and decided to play along. "Yes! Now that it's been pointed out to me, Ginevra," he said. "I see that it's been you all along. You're the only one who can truly warm my cold, bitter heart. It's always been you."

The brother and sister ran away together, back to their tribe and the rest of the family. Probably to never speak of this ordeal again. Thankfully they weren't too invested in either relationship, otherwise they would have been mortified, and terribly hurt by the events that had transpired.

Once they were out of sight and well out of mind, Draconis and Ginevra found themselves alone, lying in the snow, laughing at the predicament and themselves and each other. Draconis stopped first, because heaven forbid he show more emotion than Ginevra. "Well, that was interesting," he said casually. "We should do this again sometime."

Ginevra turned to Draconis, her laughter fading as he began to speak. "Really?" She said questioningly. "You want another train-wreck like that to happen? And I thought I was the only one." She added that last part with a smirk in his direction. Good thing they think similarly. Another of the many ways in which they were totally and completely compatible. And yet, it was often thought that a relationship like their's could never last.

But why not? They lacked some sort of emotional attachment to each other? Well that just wasn't true. Despite appearances, Draconis and Ginevra knew what they were to each other, and that's all that truly mattered. And most importantly they were honest about everything. Why bother lying to spare someone's feelings? Don't do something that would hurt them if you don't want them to grieve over anything.

Unless the reason for their supposed incompatibility is that they wouldn't grieve. Should Draconis cheat on her, is her indifference a sign that she doesn't truly love him? No, couldn't be. Ginevra knew her feelings, and hell will freeze over before she finds a fox that she cares for more.

Similar thoughts flew through Draconis's mind. And would this be all they ever thought about regarding their relationship? Will the topic always be on how wrong they are for each other? Why did he keep defending them, should that be the case?

Because, Draconis continued to think to himself, he wouldn't lose her. So the only way to stop needing to defend their relationship would be to stop questioning it in the first place. And this, Draconis knew on an innate level, without being very good at relationships at all, was the one thing he had to strive for. Nothing could work with doubt clouding judgments. And even though his answers seemed to disperse said doubt, the fact that he continued to ask these questions brought it back again. It was, frankly, the subconscious mind that he had to convince, and not the conscious one.

Draconis turned back to Ginevra, nodding his head. "Of course," he said. For now, he would ignore his doubts. She couldn't know what he was thinking. "After all, no one has won the bet yet."

Ginevra smiled in response. "True," was all she said.

For a long time, until they both drifted off to sleep, the couple remained motionless, lying in the snow and simply staring up at the sky, each consumed by thoughts of the future with the other but neither willing to voice their opinion. But it wasn't necessary. They would always be on the same wavelength each other, no matter the circumstances. Despite the unorthodox nature of their relationship, the bond between Draconis and Ginevra continued to exist stronger than ever.

The next morning, Ginevra awoke on the cold ground alone. Sitting up, she sniffed the air and caught Draconis's scent easily enough. Following it through the trees, she spotted him hunting a nearby deer. Of course, Ginevra didn't spot the deer until after her paw stepped loudly on a leaf, alerting the animal of her presence and allowing it to run off. "Whoops.." Ginevra muttered to herself as she saw Draconis's reaction from afar.

Draconis woke up, early and hungry. He glanced down at Ginevra beside him, examining her sleeping form. The only time she was ever calm was when she was asleep. Not that he minded either way. Her personality, and everything that came with it, was the only excitement his normal, boring, lonely days ever got. Shaking away the thoughts, Draconis turned and walked in a random direction in search of food. It didn't take too long.

He could smell the deer before he could see it. Draconis was not that shabby of a hunter, if he did say so himself. He was calm, calculating, quiet. Despite the large, difficult to hide 'Phim body that he had, Draconis knew how to keep out of sight of his prey. A few steps closer and he would pounce. Just a bit closer now... Draconis made absolutely sure that his paws avoided anything on the ground, and his body made no contact at all with any sort of plant life that would rustle even slightly at being disturbed.

So, naturally he was rather surprised by the noise he heard, as if someone had stepped on a rather crunchy leaf. Of course it had to be a crunchy leaf. Couldn't possibly have just been a normal, green, supple little thing. The deer fled.

Draconis turned to glare at the source of the noise; he wasn't too surprised it was Ginevra. No one else was around, after all. He walked over to her, and for a while said nothing. Then, "Your turn to get the breakfast then, go on."

Ginevra offered her mate a sweet smile. "Of course, darling," she said, "I don't mind at all. And I do apologize for ruining that for you." The 'Daeva sauntered past the 'Phim, brushing lightly against him. She stretched her wings and took to the sky, flying in the direction that the deer had run off in.

It didn't take too long to catch up to the creature; it had stopped in a nearby clearing, believing the danger to have disappeared. It was wrong, of course. It didn't notice Ginevra until she was already upon it. Her teeth closed around the neck, a quick kill. After ensuring the deer was really dead, she hoisted the carcass onto her back and flew back to where she had left Draconis.

Dropping the food down before landing herself, Ginevra sat herself down beside Draconis, who hadn't moved while she was away. "Breakfast is served, love."

The 'Phim's muscles relaxed of their own accord as Ginevra brushed lightly passed him. This vixen had a way with him that was strange and inexplicable. He watched her take off, deciding not to follow her. Draconis just had to await her return, as she should have done for him this morning. Ah well. It wasn't as though he was mad anymore. Draconis sat down in the grass, making himself comfortable. He didn't have to wait long though. Soon enough he could smell the blood of the newly-killed deer, and then it was moving closer.

Draconis didn't bother looking up as Ginevra's shadow passed over him. She dropped the carcass down right in front of him and took a seat beside him. "Lucky for me that you were here to catch the thing, pet," Draconis said dryly. He took a large chunk of meat from the neck and dropped it in front of Ginevra before getting another piece for himself. "The least I can do is serve."

"Ah, I don't say it enough, darling, but I love you," Ginevra said with a smile, nuzzling Draconis in the neck before eating the bit of meat.

They ate the entire deer themselves in one sitting, making the usual casual conversation. It was a beautiful day, and the clearing they ate in allowed the sun to warm them throughout their meal. They were comfortable, and it was grand. But the entire sensation was strange and new for the 'Daeva. So much had changed between the two of them in just 24 hours. Her entire demeanor, in fact, was completely different. She had noticed a similar change in Draconis. And Ginevra liked it. They were both so lighthearted and open with each other. She wondered what they would be like now around other foxes. Draconis's family, for instance, would be most likely to notice the change in their relationship, unless Draconis returned to his usual unresponsive manners around them.

"I want to wash off," Ginevra suddenly said, removing herself from her thoughts for the moment. "There was a river I saw while hunting. Not too far from here." She took off without really waiting for a response.

Draconis narrowed his eyes, watching Ginevra as she flew off suddenly. Something, and Draconis had absolutely no gosh darn clue what that something was, had occurred to his mate while she ate, and it had upset her to a surprising extent. What was the cause of this? He had to know. Draconis wasn't annoyed at her sudden mood swings, simply curious. Thus, he flew off after her.

He was only a few yards behind her, and could have caught up to her easily, but he decided not to bother. Draconis landed beside her and the stream, she was already bowed over the water, lapping it all up. He waited patiently until she was done, which didn't take too long. One simply couldn't play at drinking water forever.

"Mind enlightening?" He asked in a surprisingly gentle voice. "What's on your mind, Ginevra."

Ginevra lifted her head up and stared at Draconis, trying to figure him out. "See, even the way you asked that question makes me nervous," she began, her thoughts a little incoherent since she wasn't exactly explaining from the beginning. "It's just that... You don't sound like yourself and I don't sound like myself and it makes me wonder when we'll go back to being our normal selves again."

She let out a sigh, looking back down at the ground. "This 'honeymoon period' of ours will end and we'll probably go back to our old, equally snarky and competitive ways. You'll be inattentive, I'll get angry. So what's the point in all this if we know we'll just go back to arguing or something?"
