"Thank you very much...what was your name again? Sorry - I'm kind of new here. I'm Helen - pleased to meet you." Helen seemed to get back into spirits again, and grabbed up her bag of soil and half filled her pot. She gently picked up the seed, trying not to get it in any way moist (her hands had a tendency to sweat). She placed it carefully inside the pot, and layered some more dirt over it. She was being very careful not to spill anything on the table so that the seeds would not get wet. She then shook the pot only lightly, to settle the dirt and get rid of any excess moisture. Then she examined it before putting it away - it seemed to be fine, so she put it up on the shelf along with everyone elses. She then wrote her name on it while it was on the shelf, and sat back down afterwards.

Ghaleon Elmerast, Ravenclaw, 5th Year

Ghaleon walked up to the professor handing him the small bit of homework for the lesson.

The Dirigle Plum is somewhat similar to a radish in look as it comes to a point, as well as the resemblance to an orange like radish rather than a plum. Some believe the Dirigle has the property to 'enhance the ability to accept the unexpected'. Though no conclusive evidence has found over such matters.
They tend to grow from a tree like plant though instead of hanging down they seemingly grow upwards, seemingly standing upright without any actual support.

(( If you need to take off points because I found the info on the net okay. Though I don't know where else I was supposed to find the info. The lack of 2 good sized paragraphs since well.. there is barley even 1 paragraph of information on the plant anywhere. I could have made stuff up but then.. well that wouldn't have worked since everyone would have different information. I also would have added more of Xenophilius's thoughts but they were just one person's thoughts and not actual facts. As well as there didn't seem to be any point in mentioning Luna's earrings as it had no real bearing on the actual plant. So unless I seriously overlooked something this was the absolute best I could come up with. ^^; ))

Fionna entered Herbology on the ninth with her finished assignment. She had worked really hard on it and hoped that it would be enough for full marks! She quickly bounded into class and went right up to Professor and handed him her parchment.

The Dirigible Plum

The Dirigible Plum is a very unique fruit for a plethora of reasons. For example, the plums grow on bushes, but they grow upside down on said bushes. Also, the Dirigible Plum is believed to be able to enhance the ability to accept the extraordinary. Furthermore, the Dirigible Plum floats away once its bush is destroyed.

The appearance of this plum is not like a regular plum. Instead, it looks like an orange radish. The common growing area of these plums is Ottery St. Catchpole, England. Also, it is a non-sentient fruit. Finally, the Dirigible Plum is related to a regular plum. The Dirigible Plum is not ordinary much like most other plants of the wizarding world.

((this assignment wasn't easy! There wasn't a lot of info, so the paragraphs aren't complete. Sorry! sad ))
Ami stood up when she had finished with the essay. She took the parchment and placed it on the Professor's desk.

The Dirigible plum plant is one that is quite different from the regular muggle plum. First, it looks like an orange radish. But instead of growing underground like a muggle radish, it grows upside down in bushes. It can be found in Ottery St. Catchpole, England, which is a town in Devon.
Plus, The Dirigible plum gives a person "the ability to accept the extraodinary." It is relatives with the muggle plum, although it resembles the muggle radish. It has been observed that they have the ability to float. I think that they are a very peculiar but useful plant.

Donavon Epithia
Head of Hufflepuff
Herbology Professor

((5 points to ravenclaw for trying, 10 points to gryffindor for doing well, dirigible plums lesson is over now))
Lesson Two: Donavon walked sulkily into class today, due to little sleep last night. He felt like such a robot. He'd always wanted to be here, wanted to teach Herbology, but after that happened this summer, he felt like he didn't belong anywhere, really. Rubbing his eyes, he walked into the greenhouse and absentmindedly held his ribs with his hand even though they were obviously much better.

He yawned a bit and smiled weakly at the class. “Today we're pruning Shrivelfig plants. They come from Abyssinia. Now, when skinned, the liquid inside the plant, which is purple in colour, is used as an ingredient in the Shrinking Solution, just as the "shrivel" in the plant's name would seem to suggest, and the Elixir to Induce Euphoria. Today you're just pruning them with shears. Dispose of the withered stalks in this-” He lifted a bucket and placed it in the middle of the greenhouse, “trashbin. Please note that this is not nearly as easy as it sounds. These plants are extremely sensitive and if you cut off too many stalks, they'll wither up themselves and die. The stalks you're cutting also need to be cut from the very bottom, if you leave any behind then more are likely to grow. Homework is to use these in your potions. So I want you to put these in your potions kit, and believe me, I know the potions master quite well, if you haven't done it, I'll find out. If you've pruned them correctly, you'll be fine. If you don't, your potion very well may boil over.”

((POSTING AS LUCAS AS AN EXAMPLE SINCE I KNOW INSTRUCTIONS WERE CONFUSING))

Lucas- 6th year Gryffindor
Lucas listened carefully to the instructions and took one of his own plants. He took a pair of shears and cut off the withered stalks carefully, leaving no dead stalks on the plant. He took the trimmings and gathered them up in his arms then dumped them all in the trash bucket. He turned the pot around on his desk checking to be sure there was nothing left. If there were any deadened pieces left the juice wouldn't flow, and if he'd cut off too many, the plant would wither up and then he wouldn't be able to get juice from it even if his life depended on it. He turned the pot around on last time just to check, and when he was sure that there were on dead stalks left, he looked around for the knives to peel it. He was using to peeling them for potions like the Shrinking solution, so he took a short knife and peeled it slowly, letting the purple juices drop into the bowl on his desk.

When he was done he was a bit disspointed to find that he didn't get nearly as much purple juice from the plant as he'd hoped, but he did get a fair amount and at least he hadn't ruined the plant. He watched Fionna as she worked now, grateful for the no homework.

After handing in her assignment, Fionna sat down and listened to Professor Epithia as he explained lesson two. She jotted down some quick notes as he spoke to make sure she did everything correctly. She then worried about messing up because this would affect both Herbology and Potions if she did it wrong. Two of her more troublesome classes. She took a deep breathe and tried to ignore the pressure on this assignment.

When the professor finished speaking and indicated for them to begin, Fionna picked up a pair of shears and approached where the Shrivelfig plants were located. She took her shears and placed them at the bottom of one of the withered stalks and made sure it was how the professor had specified before cutting through it. It was cut at the very bottom and she smiled in triumph believing she had done it correctly. Fionna set the first stalk aside and moved onto a second doing it the same way and set that stalk next to the other. Four more followed and then she stopped because as she turned the plant she could no longer find any withered stalks. She prayed she had not cut off too many while she went and disposed of the withered stalks in the trashbin.

When Fionna returned to her plant, she took out a phial and placed it under the position she would peel first. Fionna took one of her knives and slowly peeled the plant allowing the juices to drip into the phial. Fionna did this a few times until she was satisfied with the results and too afraid of killing the plant to continue. Fionna returned to a table next to Lucas and smiled at him while putting away her supply of juice. She was still worried about adding these to a potion and doing it wrong, but she didn't have to worry about that until they used this ingredient in a potion.

Lucas- 6th year Gryffindor
Lucas smiled stupidly at Fionna, he was just always happy around her.
"You have a shrivelfig leaf in your hair." He said, flushing a bit. He leaned over and gently pulled it out before tossing it in the trash.
"So...gotta use it for Potions, huh?" He said, pointing out the obvious because he wasn't sure what else to say.
"Well, it's better than writing an essay about these things. I'd have no idea what to say."
He wasn't even sure what to say now. He was finding himself more dumb-struck in her presence than usual. It was like, the more he talked to her, the less things he had to say. The less he could say, because he found himself too busy just admiring and staring at her. She was so pretty...he actually pictured himself asking her out sometimes before even remembering what he was. He just seemed to forget it when he was around her, because she made him feel more human than he actually was.

Fionna blushed when Lucas said she had a leaf in her hair then the blush deepened when he pulled it out for her. "Thanks." She said as the blush slowly disappeared. "That's true. I'm just afraid I may have done it wrong and then it will also affect my potion grade." She stated her worry because she was basing her success on a potion with this ingredient upon her skills in herbology which were severely lacking. "How do you think you did with that?" She asked him because what she really wanted to say would probably never be said. She just really wished he liked her the way she did him. He probably figured she'd get back together with Caiden which just was not going to happen, and he probably thought she was a weird girl who should probably be a Ravenclaw instead of a Gryffindor like some people always said to her. She would have sighed, but didn't want to give Lucas any wrong ideas.

Lucas- 6th year Gryffindor
Lucas couldn't help but noticing her face was a bit red and he blushed a bit himself.
"I think I did pretty well, guess I'll find out in potions, huh?" He said, still unable to wipe the smile from his face. He'd never really been this happy before. He'd had happy moments in his life, when he'd been on vacation, or on a brithday, but he'd never felt like life was this good. Ever since the night he was bitten, it was like life just wasn't meant to be simple or enjoyable. Whenever he thought he was happy, things went wrong. As of now, he wanted to keep things good. Ask her out... A little voice kept whispering in his ear. He didn't reject it anymore, but wondered if he should. He debated with it, filled his mind with doubts and worry. What would happen? Would things really get better?

Fionna grinned and agreed, "I guess so. Just gotta wait and see." She wondered what Professor would do if her ingredients made her potion blow up or something. She would probably get some bad punishment or grade or deduction from both subjects. She wouldn't be able to deal with that. She prayed that her ingredients worked.

Fionna couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking about how annoying she was, how childish she was, or something else? It probably wasn't anything good. She wished she would just tell him how she felt, but she couldn't help but think it may ruin their friendship and not speak again which she would not be able to cope with. Fionna decided that her mouth would stay shut on that topic, so she decided to think of something to say here and now. "I'm glad we don't have any real homework. I've got a bunch to do in my other classes already." She said. It was kind of going backwards in the conversation, but Fionna was terrible and keeping conversations going smoothly.

Lucas- 6th year Gryffindor
"Definitely." he said, nodding. The homework from his other classes was piling up and since he'd be gone late tomorrow, monday, and most of tuesday, he had no idea when he'd get it done. He was also especially worried about Quidditch practice. He knew he'd have to be absent monday, but he still hadn't though of a decent excuse to give Fionna. What could he possibly say to her? He knew what he'd like to say, and that was the truth. He wanted to be honest with her more than anything, he hated telling lies and he hated deceiving her of all people. She believed in him with quidditch, gave him the beater position, and here he was, lieing. It might not be direct, but it still felt wrong.

He pushed the thought from his mind and tried to think of something cool to say. What should he say? Dammit, think of something.
"It's amazing how you manage prefect duties, Quidditch Captain, and homework though." He smiled, "And still get good grades. Anyways, do you think you'd be able to manage enough time to go with me on the next Hogsmeade trip? I heard about going to the village every once and a while and maybe if you'd like to...."
That sounded stupid. So stupid. He had tried to sound all cool but Dangit Lucas you sound like an idiot, why would she want to go to you when she has loads of other friends and you keep complimenting her because you like her but then what if she likes you back then you'd have to tell her...No why would she likes me in the first place, I won't have to tell her because why would she care?... his mind was still in a little battle again, but if one side won, it meant that she'd like him, and he'd hate lying to her even more. If he lost...well, she wouldn't like him, but at least he wouldn't have to admit the truth and lose her...
