Mot stared back at Riyo as she seemed to step backward, gritting his teeth. "Er, yeah but.. not that way." He warned, grabbing her hand and running further into the tunnel.

The noise turned out to be a herd of savage, oversized foxfires coming from behind them. Normally such a thing would hardly be considered scary, but these guys seemed to have a thirst for the blood of students.
Where did they even come from?!
The further they ran, the closer the stampede got. How was it they could not outrun a herd of foxfires who's legs barely measured past a couple centimeters? Mot was almost tempted to just stop and let them come at him. Maybe they only seemed vicious because of the copious amount of foam and drool dripping from their maws? Maybe they just wanted cuddles and pets?

Nah.

Suddenly, the path split into two separate paths. "Which way?!" Mot asked as they quickly approached.

The right seemed to keep going straight, where as the other path seemed to have spiraling stairs going downward.

Riyo's eyes practically popped out of her head when Mot grabbed her hand and started running in deeper. Oh Jack he was touching her! Nono, this wouldn't-

Then she turned her head to see the huge herd of hungry foxfires running right for them.

Suddenly the contact didn't matter all that much to her. <********!" She screeched, managing to keep up with Mot as he darted down the hallway. She could smell them. Filthy creatures. Thank Jack she'd left Felix up with her things...

Wait, was that a split up ahead? Really? This HAD to be some elaborate dream her imagination came up with as a peaceful interlude to the nightmares. It was so hard to think with the pressure when they were approaching so fast. "GO LEFT!" The right was too obvious, right? Straight paths were nothing but dangerous, right?

Well, so was running down stairs.

Left he went.

The moment they both touched the staircase, the steps themselves dipped downward to create a slippery slide. Mot lost his balance and slipped, causing the pair to descend down the steep route. "WOOOOOAH!" Maybe they should have taken the right path?

However, as unlucky as the never ending spiral downward was, the foxfires did not follow, and continued stampeding toward the right path.

The slide eventually emptied out into a room with a high ceiling with a skylight pouring daylight onto a pedestal. The pedestal displayed a golden chest.
The pair tumbled into the room, Mot rolling head over heels for a while before colliding with a wall. A loud grunt escaped his lips upon impact, but he was unharmed. "W-well.. that was kind of fun!"

"OH JAAAAAAAAAAACK!" Riyo yelled as she tumbled down behind Mot, all the fur on her body immediately prickling out. SHOULD'VE PICKED RIGHT. SHOULD'VE PICKED RIGHT!

Not long after Mot managed to crash into the wall, Riyo came rolling in right behind him... Then into him. At least she wasn't that heavy.

With her long blonde hair messy, her clothes dirty, and face full of dread, she officially looked like something the cat dragged in. *BA DM CHH*

It took her a moment to man up and force herself to stop shivering, rubbing her eyes before opening them to inspect the room. "T... Treasure?" She asked, thoroughly confused by the series of events. No, this couldn't be real...

Mot had the air knocked out of him once again as Riyo rolled right on into him. Gingerly, he shifted her away from him, dragging himself away from her as she moved to pick herself up. No offense to her, really. He could only have a pretty ghoul sitting on him so long before he started to react. It was purely out of prevention.
With the now lit up room, he could see just how messed up the two of them looked now. Riyo had certainly seen better days. Their little trip was seeming less like a good idea the longer they stayed here. That is until Riyo said the magic word.

"Treasure?!" Mot grinned, jumping to his feet. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. He held a hand out for Riyo, in case she needed a hand standing up, then made his way to the pedestal. The glittering of the chest was enchanting, intoxicating even. "No way! See Riyo? THIS is why people go on adventures. We might have found something amazing!"
Mot licked his lips, wiggling his fingers over the golden casing. Do he dare? Would a trap be triggered?

He slowly opened the chest's lid..

...

And promptly shut it firmly. His face, or what could be seen of his face, turned bright red.

Riyo jumped a little as Mot moved her away, almost immediately scrambling back from the boil to regain her space.

Refusing his help, the feline managed to stand on her own two feet, a bit awkwardly at first. "Yeah yeah. Just open the damn box." She mumbled and waved him along, watching carefully as he opened the ornate box.

... And then closed it.

"...What?" She asked and approached the chest, raising her eyebrow. "Is it just chump change? Empty?" Why was he blushing then?

Might as well see for herself. Slowly opening the box, Riyo was surprised to find... Magazines.

Magazines weren't treasure? What was with the pirate chick on the front of the top one?

Silently she picked one of them up to look at the cover and peek inside.

When the ghoul lowered the magazine on her face, there was a look of horror in her eyes, her jaw agape from the sting of her last piece of innocence dying in a fire. So... That's what the "getting booty" comment on the front was referring to.

In an almost robotic motion, she dropped the magazine back in the chest. "I uh... I didn't... Know... People could... bend that way..." Riyo squeaked, blood dripping out one of her nostrils.

Mot bit his lip, his mind trying to act and stop Riyo from taking a look at the magazines. However, he froze, staring in horror as the ghoul discovered the magazines, and even took a look inside.

The expression on her face made the reaper grimace.

"Th...they..." Bend what way? Oh no.. what had she seen? Much more than she should have, that was for certain. Mot became rather sheepish, rubbing his neck and backing away from the treasure. "That was uh... not what I was suspecting." Who puts their porn in a golden chest inside a tunnel full of peril anyway? Someone very depraved, and not anyone Mot was interested in meeting. "Let's get out of here." Some adventure that was.

The cowboil looked up at the opening in the ceiling. There had to be a way out of a tunnel like this. Perhaps a ladder? How else did someone get in and out? Sure enough, there was a stair case leading up toward the suface. Where it led was uncertain, but at least it would be outside for sure.

Wrapping her arms around herself, Riyo backed up from the chest slowly. It took her a moment to tear her eyes away and look over at Mot, a stream of red flowing down her face. "Y-yeah. Lets uh... Lets go. I need to find my hat..." And think about something else besides the image that was now seared into the back of her skull.

Time to throw caution to the wind and just... Climb those stairs. Whatever might be up there... It couldn't be worse than what was in that chest. What kind of sick ******** kept his collection of questionable material behind such protection. That's what UNDER THE BED was for! Right?

Mot nodded, the redness in his skin matching Riyo's quite nicely. With that he took to the stairs, half expecting them to catapult him into the sky, or maybe a boulder to come flying down on their heads. Nothing like that happened though. No surprises or perils. Mot no longer needed to hold his breath in fear of debris or danger.

The cowboil ascended up the staircase and out into the world. He breathed in deeply and stretched his arms. The smell of the shady woods finally hit his nose. It was a welcome scent after the musty smell of the tunnels. Yes, the tunnels smelled of failure. Moldy, damp failure.

Mot readjusted his hat and started down the path back to where they came from. He tried not to act as disappointed as he felt about the so called adventure, slipping his thumbs into his belt loops and taking long strides like he usually would. These things happened he supposed.

As they reached the top of the stairs, Riyo reached into her pocket and grabbed a handkerchief to wipe the blood off of her face. Deep breaths now. Everything'll be okay. No more smut...

The ghoul let out a sigh as she practically slumped over from the tiring day. She didn't do adventuring much, so the whole falling down holes and running from foxfires... Then falling again wore her the hell out.

"So uh." She started, the fancy cloth still covering her face. "Besides the ending... That wasn't too bad." The ghoul admitted as she tried to catch up with the cowboil. Riyo could almost smell the disappointment wafting off of him... Or maybe that was still the blood in her nose. "It'd.. Make an interesting story for around the campfire... I think..." Riyo wasn't sure what drove her to try and cheer up the boil, but it was almost like watching a kid go searching for magic and come back with... Nudie magazines.

Keeping an eye out for the hole they fell into, the ghoul finally removed the handkerchief and stuffed it back into her pocket. "You remember which direction we traveled?"

Mot lifted his head slightly. it seemed once again Riyo was trying to lift his spirits. The gesture was appreciated, and a faint smirked fell upon his lips. "See? Adventures are great for stories." He had hoped her first adventure would be a happy one, but then again, looking back on a failed expedition could also be good for storytelling or a good laugh.

Mot nodded and pointed forward down the trail. "Yep. I recognize this part of the woods. I just never knew there was a hidden tunnel, though I have fallen into a good amount of traps before." He chuckled lightly.

Rolling her eyes as Mot seemed back to his happy self, Riyo shrugged. The feline wasn't sure how she'd gotten so good at cheering people up, but whatever.

"I wonder who went to such lengths to cover up a... Smut collection." She managed to choke out, keeping a hand on her handkerchief in case her nose chose to bleed again.

"Wait. You've fallen into traps before?" She asked with a smirk. "Maybe you should learn how to start detecting those."

Which made her wonder. "... There should be a class on that if it happens so often. Or maybe like... A club or something. Then again, a club would probably just mean more people fall in the trap..."

Her musing stopped when she spotted her beloved hat a short distance away. "Oh thank Jack..."

"No one I care to meet." Mot added. What kid of person did that anyway? Probably a disturbed one. No thanks!

The reaper chuckled at himself, nodding in agreement to Riyo's observation. "Yes, well, I suppose trial and error isn't going so well after all." Traps, never not traps. Forests weren't his friend. "A class might be nice."

Finally, their starting point was coming into view. "Good to see no feral mini pets ran off with it, right?" He laughed. Or maybe that wasn't funny. Oh well.

The reaper bent to pick it up for the ghoul, trying not to get any mud on it as he handed it back. "I know if it was my hat I'd be in a panic."

Eventually the pair was out of the woods and back in town. Mot stopped a moment. "Well, as pleasant as the company is, I must head back home." He waved his mud covered arms about to emphasize the reasoning. "I'm looking forward to getting cleaned up."

Riyo nodded and sighed with relief as she placed her hat back on her head. While she didn't say it out loud, the feline knew she would be in some panic too if the swanky hat disappeared forever. It had been the nicest thing anyone had given her, after all.

When they finally found out their way back out of the woods, the ghoul gave a short nod to Mot. "Yeah, pleasant." She was almost sure that was sarcasm. "I need to clean up after that too.." And find herself a new outfit if she was going to do things like this. Something a lot more casual, because that dry-cleaning bill would be expensive. "Well. I suppose I'll see you later then." Starting towards the dorms, Riyo paused for a moment and thought about saying something to the effect of 'lets do it again some time'... But decided to keep it to herself. If it happened again, then it happened again, but if not then she wouldn't say anything about it.

"Right then. Later~." Mot gave a short wave, watching the ghoul walk some distant before he set out his own way. While the adventure had been all over the place, from exciting to downright nasty, he still felt it had been worth it.

Mot wondered on his way home whether or not he had made a good impression on Riyo. Most of him thought, no. The optimistic part of him however, felt that perhaps he at least introduced her to a little adventure.

If nothing else, he found another ghoul to tease... albeit carefully. This one bites back hard.
