So his earlier hypothesis had been correct. But if variant seals exist, why was it so important to get the handseals exactly accurate then? Won't just the general idea be enough? Because of this, he couldn't help but ask: "If variations can exist... Why is forming the traditional seal so important?" As he asked this question, he watched while Fubuki Kira dragged over a chair from the nearby table before bringing it over to the edge of this one. With a soft thump the other sank into the velvety cushions. Inori waited, but took a long sip of his tea. Kira took his book briefly, before turning to the page that had all twelve seals.
"That's because... It's not exactly always safe doing the variant forms. You need excellent chakra control - very excellent in fact - to command your body's chakra to flow in exactly the same way it would for what you call the "traditional" seal being the channeling medium." Kira paused. "In essence, that means improper release of chakra might cause an explosion or some other sort of disaster that could very well endanger yourself."

That left Inori to contemplate his own thoughts as he examined the Tori seal once more. His fingers naturally practiced the seal a few more times just for confirmation - but now there was actually purpose to the method. If what Kira said was true, then, to not have the seals committed properly to memory could be devastating at such an early stage into the shinobi world. Somehow, he thought to himself that wasn't a risk he wanted to take even if usually he was very warmly welcome to having a little bit of "danger" in his life.
Exploding chakra, hunh. He could imagine what would happen with Fire release techniques. Or worse, be left permanently paralyzed thanks to a Lightning release technique gone wrong. Aren't shinobi afraid at all? So such power does come with consequence.

In the course of the matter, Hatsuyuki seem to grow sleepier, until finally she had to retire for bed. It reassured her anyways now that Kira's initially antagonistic approach of Inori seemed to easily smooth down. Inori however, curious as to what the princess mentioned of Kira's rank earlier, had to ask.
"How long were you Jounin?"
"About half a year now...?" Surmised the other. "My tenure as a Chuunin was short, only a year."
The other surveyed Inori then.
"Don't get too down. I hated the Shinobi Academy, and refused to do any lessons. I didn't graduate until five months later, though fortunately before that crazy woman and her nut of a friend totaled a quarter of Kiri."
At such words, Inori blinked in surprise.
"So that's what happened. Kiri was attacked."
"Where were you at the time?" Said the other more irritably. "That was common news. Look at what the stupid Senju did in their "help" - the new library looks pretty ridiculous..."
"I wasn't in the country." Replied Inori, his tone amused. He was ready to proceed to the next seal, the Dog, and was currently examining the large close-up portrait. He was inching closer to being finished, and for that he was grateful that at least one of the most important of the fundamental lessons was almost finished.
Inwardly, he noted how funny it was that the Jounin Fubuki agreed with his opinion about the library being sorely out of place. At least that mystery was solved now, why a portion of the village looked like it was torn right out of the Fire Country.

"If this is your first time..." Surveyed Kira. "You are a pretty much natural..."
There was a pregnant pause.
"You really didn't have any family whom were shinobi?" Said Kira, his tone growing more curious. It would've made sense normally, after all, if Inori had already experienced watching other kin form the seals. Fubuki did study about it before, how perceived experience actually did help the brain at least prepare for the actions. Obviously, physical experience is necessary also to properly perform the actions.
"That was a perfect Inu seal. I think with a little practice, you might become even very good at making seals with reasonable speed..."
"Why are seals so important Kira-han?" Inquired Inori. "Couldn't shinobi just learn how to mold from the beginning?"
"Seals have a history of being used for meditative purposes. In short..." Elaborated Kira. "This kind of meditation allows one to calm their mind to feeling exactly the flow of energy within themselves. Shinobi usually begin with very negligible chakra, so there's no real other way. After Handseals, I'll show you the first Jutsu. Depending on how poorly or well you do on it, then we'll see if you need any chakra control exercises."

"But I don't have five months at the Academy..." Murmured Inori quietly.
At such words, Kira looked highly indignant.
"What?"
Inori shook his head lightly aside, before elaborating.
"I was told I'll only have a month to graduate."
The Jounin looked vaguely furious.
"They are not only sending civilians in the Academy now and also telling them to graduate in a month?"
It was almost a bit touching that this one was so righteous. Laughing a little, Inori amended quickly.
"No no... I mean, it was kind of a deal..."
Kira snorted softly in reply.
"The next thing you are going to tell me is that it wasn't one you can reject."
But the Fubuki fell silent at that look on Inori's face.
"I don't have a choice. I have to graduate."
At such words, a strange silence fell upon the table. Nero's soft breathing even in his sleep seemed all the sudden too starkly contrasting with the silence of the library. By now most of the clansmen had begun departing off for either supper or bed. Though, if granting Taka's words earlier tonight were true, then probably some students were returning for dinner from the evening extra session. For a long moment, Kira's blue-green eyes just calmly observed him, and then, softly, the other said.
"It's only not your choice if you let it become like that." Replied the Jounin. The other leaned forward a little, so close all of the sudden that the dimmed chandelier shone bright fires in the depths of those eyes. "Walk. If you do not, who are you to say you have "no choice" with a seemingly impossible task?" With those words said then, Kira leaned back, before with a huff continued on.
"If they are saying one month, graduate in one week."
Unexpectedly then, the other smiled at Inori.
"We'll help you. If Suki thinks you are ok, I guess you can't be all that bad."

Inori's mouth twitched for a moment, not sure whether to take that last statement as insult or reassurance. But then again, this Fubuki was strangely honest, and he supposed then it was as close as to a friendly gesture from the other.
"So I trust you'll teach us then? Nero and I?"
Kira looked insulted.
"What do you mean by tea-... Wait, you two haven't gone to the lessons today?!"
At such a discovery, Inori winced a little. He placed a single finger on his mouth, before urgently telling the other. "Shhh..." The complaints that were sure to come from the Fubuki Jounin froze in mid-beginning of a tirade. Inori was not about to ask how the other suspected so quickly, feeling something akin as if this Fubuki in particular had committed something of a similar suspect nature in the past. Of course, he knew better than to pry, as almost in confirmation a wry smile flickered across the other's features.
"I told them they were boring." Ascertained Kira rather proudly.
Inori was tempted to palm his forehead. Shoving the book before the other again, he more impatiently tapped the final seal.
"I can't learn any Jutsu yet, right?"

For a long moment, Inori studied the large-scaled portrait in the book of the Ousu-buta seal, the Sign of the Boar. This one seemed to require the hands to twist into a painfully inverted position, but the fortunate part of the matter was that the finger placement on the seal seems to be relatively simple. He took to tracing the lines of the fingers a little, just to be doubly sure that the fingers all fold in. But there was no doubt, his worry was probably rather unnecessary. Kira affirmed the seal with a slight nod, and so Inori took to practicing getting used to the discomforting feeling.
When he felt a muscle in his hand beginning to strain, he grumpily thought to himself that he really hated this seal. But Kira reassured soothingly that with practice, he wouldn't even notice the pain anymore. Inori wasn't too happy to hear such words of "reassurance" of course. Or perhaps his issue was that Kira appeared to have a similar nature of humor as he did.

At last, he was done.
"Do you know what the I-seal is commonly used for?" Inquired Kira, with a faint hint of a smile. "It's an uncomfortable seal, hard to do quickly, but it appears in many "shield" based type of Jutsus. If you turn out to be an earth user, then I must say you are out of luck... This seal will appear in almost every other Doton technique known."
A soft groan from his charge made the Jounin smirk.
"I wish to get to the point where I do not have to use seals..."
"A bit too early for that." Bade Kira cheerfully. "Repeat the seals for me now."
Inori did, beginning with the Ne seal again. As he performed the seal one by one, he also recited a little bit of what he learned from Hatsuyuki and the tome combined. Every once a while Kira stopped him to offer tips on how to adjust fingering a little so it better flows from one seal to another.
"Certainly, that varies especially when you are performing Jutsu... The seals won't be coming in order."
Of course Inori understood that much. It was only after the Jounin deemed the seal formation acceptable did Kira make Inori repeat the seals one more time just to work solely on speed.
"Good... Yes, modifying Tatsu slightly like that won't disturb chakra release... Quickens speed of formation too..."
There was a certain bubble of pleasure, Inori realized, from having accomplished something. Perhaps even if the challenge was great, the victory would be even all the more sweeter.

Tenshi walked into the dining hall to find it completely empty. Someone walked through a set of doors and immediately shooed him out, informing him that the food would not be done for some time. Dismayed, he left the great hall in search of something to do. he was drained and /wanted something to eat, but he had to live without food for a few hours. He sighed and came to the conclusion that he would continue his training. He didn't feel like going outside, so instead went towards the library. There were sure to be some books on what he needed to do to graduate from the academy.
He made his way to the staircase and ascended to the second floor. He remembered where the library was, where on occasion he would spend his afternoons during the year that he was absent from the academy. He passed many tapestries, paintings, and sculptures along the way. He never paid much attention to them, other than looking at the colors as he walked past. What was on them, he wasn't entirely sure. He same tot eh doors to the library and pushed them open. The creaking sound of the door latch and hinge would need some work to prevent the disturbance of those reading.
The size and elegance of the library never ceased to amaze him. The stain-glass window and chandelier were the eye grabbers. Some times he would come here just to look at them. The books that lined the walls and shelves were gathered over the years, some of which he had read, but the majority were a mystery. He remembered the talk of a restricted section in the library, but he could never find it. He took in a deep breath, the smells of wood and books filling his lungs and nostrils. It was a pleasant smell that he would love to bottle up and carry with him. He walked over and stood in front of the window looking at it for a while, relaxing his mind.

As the doors to the library swung open, Fubuki Kira just happened to be in the process of brutalizing Nero. He was stacking books one by one on the sleeping boy's head, balancing them perfectly, a evil grin curving the Jounin's mouth. Inori watched on with an unimpressed look before with a soft sigh, he pretended to look elsewhere while their new self-appointed teacher tended to business. That way Nero would have no proper basis for accusing him of being the Jounin's accomplice in crime whenever the other does choose to wake.
"Why, good evening Tenshi-dono. How were classes?" Greeted Kira cheerfully.
Inori startled, surprised to see the proud Jounin use an honorific. It seemed that in this clan there was some sort of cast system between the two branches? Yet Nero was from the main family and Kira certainly wasn't showing respect right now. He felt a headache settle, and decided not to ask a useless question, as it would probably be considered rude to pry.
"As soon as Nero here wakes, we were about to work on Henge. Care to join us?"

Inori, who was reading a light novel, raised a brow as Nero accused him. He didn't even look up from his book.
"And how is it my fault?" Replied the Tsukimiya nonchalantly as he turned a page. "Kira-han thought it would be fun to pick on you..." At that moment, a sly grin curved his mouth, and he lowered the tome. "Since you happened to be snoring pretty loudly~" He was teasing of course, Nero did snore, but not that loudly. And for sleeping in such a position, it was pretty much inevitable.
Kira had only laughed as the piece of paper met its mark: his face. Lightly catching it before it fell, he tossed it back to Nero.
"Hey, don't you go wasting paper."
There was a short pause.
"Well, I suppose you two are ready to begin?"
Kira raised one hand, and swiftly performed a few seals. A light wind stirred, raising the tomes that fell on the ground, and the Jounin held out his other hand as the books stacked themselves before falling onto his palm neatly. He separated the books then into two piles, one for Nero, one for Inori.
"There's a number of volumes. The first talks about all the fundamental techniques, of which we'll be using the Henge chapter. The second book speaks about chakra control, of which we'll be referencing pages. The third volume...well, we'll get to it." Pausing a little, Kira announced: "All right, turn to Chapter Four in the Fundamental Ninjutsu book. As you probably already, the Henge, or Art of Transformation, is one of the many core shinobi arts. This Jutsu allows us to utilize our chakra to transform into someone else's form - but be careful because this image does not alter any other physical properties, such as our weight and specific definitions. For example, you can turn into a plant, but try as you may you will not suddenly become an autotroph and be able to survive on photosynthesis and live without requiring food..."
Inori's brows furrowed.
"So basically, it's an illusion."
"Well...not quite. What we shinobi call illusionary arts are those that take place only in the mindscape. Physical illusions is a different thing... Or maybe you can call it a manifested mirage of sorts. Basically, you use your chakra to bend colors into the ones you are looking for, your general body shape into a bigger or small shape, and so on. It's actually very easy... You just layer chakra over your body, and mold it. It's somewhat similar to how you will shape clay, just this time your "paint" is also the chakra."
A small pause followed.
"Are we ready to try?"
Kira's only response from Inori was the shuffle of pages as the other proceeded to the Henge chapter.

So this was it... Thought Inori. He was going to learn his first shinobi Jutsu, and he earnestly hoped that he can accomplish this task. To hope that it would proceed with relatively little trouble was probably asking for a little too much. But on the other hand, what doubts were there to have? Hadn't he gone through handseals perfectly well, and understood when he only asked a little more questions? There was nothing to worry of, nothing at all. After all, Kira was here and the Jounin had already made himself perfectly amicable for questions. Still, yet, he was very nervous. Part of him sought to blame Kira for speaking so seriously about badly done chakra manipulation being potentially dangerous.
However, the other hadn't appeared to be joking then, and Inori most certainly did not want to take the chance. He did as Kira asked, opening to the chapter of the Henge lesson, but before reading up further on the Jutsu itself, he decided to tackle the volume on chakra control basics. After all, it was better to be safe than sorry right? But Kira did say this was a fundamental Jutsu all shinobi children are introduced to if they intend to graduate. Surely, it couldn't do much damage, even in the worst possible case scenario. Oh, he probably was being very ridiculous right now, fretting over such things when he did not even start yet. He was going to learn this Jutsu, and no tall-tales from Kira was going to shake his determination.
Fine, fine. So he'll be lying if he is claiming that he wasn't in any way disturbed. He didn't think he was frightened, because frightened people wouldn't tackle the very source of their fear. With a silent gulp, he opened the volume on Chakra Control, and emerald eyes narrowed as he focused to read in the dim light. Unlike his brush with shinobi folklore in that earlier novel, this subject on the other hand was not for recreational but very critical purposes. This book, like the other volume he referenced to learn the handseals, started with briefly introducing the chakra system and the associated Tenketsu. However, he immediately saw some interesting information: the organs of the body are the source of chakra.
Confusion settled over Inori. Why then could shinobi only release chakra through the hands and feet? What properties of those areas of the bodies especially made chakra conduction so fine? But if it was as Kira said, to emit a whole layer of chakra over the whole body... This Jutsu, it manipulates all the body's Tenketsu, didn't it? It's strange how a fundamental art is capable of this, yet the other volume introduced the Hyuuga Ichizoku of the main continent as unique in their ability of full-body tenketsu manipulation.
His gaze shifted over to the opened chapter on Henge then, noting how it introduced that three seals were necessary for the Henge, the Dog, Boar, and then the Ram. It was probably pertinent to remember the handseals well, he would commit this to memory first. From the corner of his eyes, he watched as Nero released chakra for the Henge. With a grimace, Inori attempted the same, but the same pale blue light that seemed to wrap around the other did not at all occur for him. A frown curved his mouth, and Inori attempted again, this time rewarded by a flicker of blue. However, when he looked at his hands, they remained the same. He did not transform, but he definitely felt the draining weakness as if that blue light took something from deep within him.

It was a staple, and if he wanted to become a great ninja, he would have to begin learning more jutsu, beginning with this one. Not to mention, it was incredibly useful as a ninja, having many options for ways to use it. He had to get it, failure was not an option, but he needed to make sure he didn't pass out, as his chakra, no matter how well he could control it, wasn't available in great amounts. Making the tiger seal, he prepared to try a second time, hoping to have a bit more success with it than he did the first time. The first time, not only was he unable to hold the jutsu, but he couldn't get a visibly accurate product at all, just a sloppy mess.
Cmon, you have to get this. You can't fail anymore, you have to master this as a first step to accomplishing your goals of becoming a great ninja.
He thought about Kira's description, then looked down at the book, frowning slightly at the wall of text that arose as he flipped the page. He hated reading, and seeing all that writing, to him, was just life's own personal way of teasing him for not going to the academy. The dangers Kira had listed previously were beginning to get to him, and he considered the possibility that he may never get this jutsu down, before quickly dispelling those thoughts from his mind and gathering himself in preparation to try again.
