As she was praised yet again she just grinned, tail wiggling quickly. Oh, she liked Celestia's compliments! It made her feel special! As she ate she noticed Celestia was staring at her, head tilting as she swallowed her last bite and touched her own cheek.
"Is there something on my face?" She asked, blushing brightly. "Owa? Am I messy?" She moved to check herself in the water, sighing in relief when she saw she was fine.

The purple phim chuckled as she shoo her head, "No little one...you are perfect." Celestia blushed, "What I meant was that there was nothing on your face." Her cheeks heated with color. "I was just....marveling at how wonderful you are." She whispered softly as she looked at the ground. "You seem to be so accomplished and I....I am just....not."
The phim looked at the ground sadly. Honestly what had she done in her life that was so great. There was nothing for her to be praised for.

She blinked at Celestia, shaking her head as she touched her paw. "No." She grumbled back. "No, you are special to me. I think you are wonderful and amazing." She nodded, smiling at the 'Phim.
"No one see's the talent inside themselves." She mewed back. "No one ever see's that they are good and special, it's always other people." She wagged her tail, licking Celestia's cheek, and flicked her wings.

"Oh!" The phim gasped in surprise at both the lick and the praise. For several minutes she didn't know what to make of it, that was until a soft smile graced her face, and a blush heated her cheeks. "Effie...you truly....you're wonderful you know that." The phim opened up her legs, then wrapped them gently around the smaller vixen and hugged her to her chest softly, "YOu make me feel so much better with so little effort.."
The purple phim nuzzled the pink vixen's coat happily, her tail wagging behind her seeming to have a mind of its own.

Blushing at the snuggle, Effie looked up at Celestia, blushing at their closeness. Oh, why was she constantly blushing around her?! Squeaking, she stayed there for a few seconds, then removed herself, flapping her wings in excitement.
"Are we ready?" She asked, head tilting to the side with an innocent smile. "I think I am!" With a purr and flick of the tail and fluttered her wings again, flipping hair from her face.

"Ready?" Celestia looked at her puzzled, then her eyes widened. Oh no! Did Effie want to continue her flying lessons? Oh of course. Why didn't Celestia see this coming. The pink fairy had been so excited when Celestia offered to teach her, but now that the phim knew the vixen would never be able to fly she didn't know how to break the news to her. Oh why was she put in this type of spot.
Chewing on her lower lip, the purple phim fretted about telling her the truth. "Effie....dear.....Um...there is something that i....that I need to tell you."

At Celestia's nervous rambling Effie tilted her head to the side, blinking at her. "What is it?" She asked, looking up at Celestia with wide eyes, nudging her cheek. "Oh no!" She turned pale, and horrified. "Are you sick?!" She screeched, wings flipping back as well as her ears. "I can help! Let me get herbs!" She wailed, making a move to leave.

Celestia looked at the fairy confused, "Wh....Effie wait!" The phim reached out with her legs and picked up the smaller vixen, holding her against her chest gently. "I am not sick." She laughed softly, smiling down at the terrified girl. "I promise you that I am as healthy as ever...."
Slowly her lips slid back down into a frown, "What I needed to talk to you about was...the flying lessons....Oh Effie I am so sorry....I don't want to tell you this because you have been so excited but I.....I just...Mm...." Tears welled up in the phim's eyes, "I don't think.....you will ever be able to....fly."
(omg! I just want to snuggle Effie she is so darn cute!)

When she was pulled closer Effie squeaked, letting out a "owa" and turning her head up to look at her. "Hn?" She blinked at the 'Phim's stuttering. She barely understood at first, but then...
Then her heart stopped.
The fairy stared at Celestia, eye's widening slowly. Her breath halted, her body tensed, and then she had an expression of pure, utter heart break. "What?" Was all that escaped her lips. She couldn't fly? Her one dream? The vixen's heart shattered, her stomach twisted, and her happy demeanor was drowned by the single screaming sorrow she felt. No, not sorrow. Hurt. Hurt and the feeling that everything she had dreamed of was a....
She couldn't fly. What use were these wings then? What use? Why did she have them? She wished she never had them, those lying, disgusting wings. She wanted to rip them off. She wanted to rip at them and shred them apart. She couldn't fly. She would never touch the sky.
Ever.
And so she just stared, her eyes open doors to her shattering. Suddenly, she jerked away from Celestia, paranoia setting in. "How?!" She cried out, grabbing the vixens shoulders. "How do you know that?! You're joking, right? That's a sick joke! Take it back! Right now!"

The shy phim flinched, not knowing what to do or how to act now that she had shattered the little vixen's one dream. Honestly she was incapable of speaking for the longest time. What could she say that would take the sting away? Nothing. There was nothing she could say.
"I just.....your wings....are too small." Celestia whimpered lowly, looking at the ground, "You're body....is too big for them....You can....hoover but....you won't ever be able to....fly" Other then what she had already said, Celestia didn't know what else to do. Effie looked so hurt by her news that she wished she had never said it.
"If you like...you can ride on my back...and you can fly with me?" It was a last ditch effort, and one Celestia didn't know if it was going to work.

She released Celestia, eyes wide still. It wasn't a joke. Her wings were useless. "But..." She looked down now, ears flicking back. But what? She had useless wings. There was no but, and, Celestia had seen it before she herself had... How stupid had she looked? How pathetic? How idiotic? She looked up at Celestia, hurt in her eyes.
"I looked like a fool, and you knew."

"You didn't look like a fool." Celestia shook her head, "I never once thought that about you Effie....Never. And I didn't know you wouldn't be able to fly when I offered to help you....Besides, your wings aren't useless you know..." She pointed with her paw. "You can hoover with them...that's something right....I didn't know....I just think that they are just too small to support your weight from what I have seen. I knew that telling you would hurt.....but not telling you was a lie." The phim almost sobbed, unable to hide the tears in her eyes.
"I know you might hate me now....But I only ever wanted to help you Effie....I.....I care for you so much....I never wanted to cause you any pain....I'm sorry.....I'm so so sorry Effie...If you never want to see me again I'll leave...right now."

"I don't hate you." Effie whimpered, eyes watering. "I never had any friends. I wanted wings so I could fly away with my fireflies. I wanted to meet birds and fly with them and sit on clouds..." She really didn't know you couldn't sit on clouds. She began to cry then, little body shaking.
"I-I c-can't fly. B-But don't l-leave me. Please. E-Even if I'll n-never fly with you.."

Celesita let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and smiled softly, "I won't leave as long as you want me here Effie." The phim walked over and wrapped her paws around the poor dear and hugged her to her breast, rocking her gently. "Shhhh....everything is going to be alright dear one." She whispered in a soothingly voice.
"It doesn't matter to me if you can't fly. You shall always be my wonderful, special Effie." The phim leaned in and nuzzled her neck affectionately. "I care very much for you Effie....I hate to see you in so much pain."

Effie looked up at Celestia, tears in her eyes. "Really? You won't leave me?" She squeaked, ears going down. She touched the ground with her tail, allowing herself to be hugged.
"Even if I'm just going to live on the ground forever?" She didn't want to lose her friend, no, not ever. If Celestia abandoned her she'd feel lonely, even though before she met her she hadn't.
