Allaxon's mouth dropped open slightly as the bronze beelined for the girls. What was the silly creature doing over there? Currying favour? Didn't he know that a bronze had never impressed to a girl? The two hatchlings on the sands were definitely taking their time in choosing a rider, but they were doing it in such a way as to be very amusing and great entertainment for people on the sands. Though the candidates might be a little tense, he didn't think these two combined had a bad bone in their bodies. The mottled green did bumb the girls a bit when she was distracted by a rather fantastic hat, but not a one was hurt he was happy to see.
The bronze was certainly an accomplished flirt from birth it seemed, or a polite gentlemen, depending on how you looked at it. Allaxon leaned more toward flirt though. Devious little devil, now why hadn't he thought of that?

A bronze, just as she'd thought - but wait, it was coming over here! What was it with dragonets not going where they were supposed to? She shouldn't been surprised, really, as happy for attention as the metallic dragon had been in his egg. Apparently he was just coming over to get his due, making her a little sad that she wasn't in front. She would have loved to be so close to a (friendly) dragonet, maybe even touch him...

But no, there was no use being jealous, so she stood where she was and admired, almost missing that the green came over as well. Finally, maybe the green would find Hers! Except it seemed to get distracted again, and knocked over a few girls on her way. Oh dear.

Up up up! Grudgingly, Ruven rolled out of bed. He still had not gotten used to this “waking up early” thing, and as a result was incredibly sleepy. Grumbling, he rubbed his eyes. And then he heard it. That low hum… the song that meant that eggs would soon be hatching. Almost instantly, all of his drowsiness vanished. His heart pumped excitement and adrenaline through his entire system. It was beginning.

“It” being the Hatching, of course. However, this event held a lot more magnitude than that. This was the beginning of the future for he and the other fresh Trine Weyr candidates. Several of his lucky peers (and maybe even he!) would at last meet Theirs and begin to walk the path of a dragonrider. They, too, would at last be escaping their shells. Hold born, individuals with a craft, weyr brats… all of those identities would vanish the moment they Impressed and be replaced with something greater.

Feeling the importance of this day heavily in his mind, Ruven hastily dressed in the Candidate robes and sandals. With that he half-ran towards the Sands. Normally in a situation like this, he would have taken his time and attempted to act cooler than the rest of his fellows. Wasn’t allowing oneself to be overcome with excitement and rushing around childish? For likely the first time in his life, he did not care. His priorities had begun to shift a little since he had arrived at Trine Weyr. Ruven was just now starting to realize that.

It seemed to take forever for Ruven to reach the Hatching grounds. Here the humming was extremely loud. It almost felt like a drumroll – a sound meant to increase the suspense. Not that a Hatching of all things needed any more suspense. He froze for a half second before his mind reminded him of his instructions. Pausing a moment longer, he collected himself and calmed down. Then, proudly, he walked over to the left hand side (making sure to stand in the front while staying as far as possible from the clouded egg). Alright. Here we go! He was ready.

He noticed a lot of other familiar faces among the candidates. “Good luck,” he uttered under his breath, just loud enough that most of the group could hear it. Despite himself, he could not help but be a tad grateful for Peradan’s party. Because of her and her event, he was not going through this life changing experience with strangers. Sure, he did not know many of them very well yet, but that would quickly become untrue if they entered weyrlinghood together. Provide, of course, that he Impressed in this clutch.

While others might have been nervous about the prospect of leaving empty handed (after all, there were far more candidates than there were eggs), he himself had no doubts. He had spent many hours contemplating the fact that he might fail at this Hatching and had come to pleasant terms with it. If he did not find His today, that simply meant that none of the hatchlings were worthy of him. With that reassuring thought in mind, he was able to stand before the moving eggs with confidence. There was tension in the air, but he was impervious to it.

Finally, the first egg cracked open. He noticed with approval that the orbiting egg had taken the initiative to start things off. As he expected, when the shell peeled away, it revealed an adorable green. Her antics were cute at the very least. Like he had said before, whoever she Impressed would not be disappointed.

His attention was drawn away from her when the swirling egg shook. Hah. Naturally! This little one had been so eager to join the world during the Touching. To his surprise, when it burst open, it revealed a bronze dragonette. This hatching was starting off strong, huh? He could not help but be proud of the little one as he greeted the ladies first. A proper gentleman from birth! How rare!

When the orbiting green knocked over a few females, Ruven was inclined to follow the swirling bronze’s example and offer them a hand back up. However, he was not sure if leaving the male ranks was a good idea. Would he be scolded for moving around? Would that cause some gender confusion if, say, His came looking for him? His indecision held him in place. Oh well.

Let’s do this, Epsilon Clutch. A small smile played his lips.

Sleeth nudged Lerath affectionately in response to the greeting, beaming at the blue dragon, then to the hatchlings on the sands, then to Brakiath...draconic smiles for everyone! Oooh, isn't this exciting~? she queried the blue, humming happily, and not content to make it some monotone exercise either. No, Sleeth knew well how to sing, and even if trills were really a bit out of the question, it didn't mean her encouragement of the tiny dragons and eggs yet to hatch couldn't get a little...creative.

Akaya shook her head as she was able to hear the 'creativity' of her own green up above. She'd recognize Sleeth's tone anywhere, of course. "Silly greens," she muttered under her breath, though she couldn't help but smile.

D'lin sat quietly as the green hatched and came over to say hi, it was a bit odd but she didn't look distressed or fearful so he wasn't to worried...Plexith of course thought it was most unbecoming. Dragonets were supposed to hatch..impress and then eat..certainly not cavort about like that silly creature was. 'I think she's sweet' D'lin remarked to which Plexith only humphed.

Of course he was much more impressed by the bronze, it was a bronze so of course that dragonet could do nothing wrong. 'He's going over to the girls' D'lin pointed out..mostly to annoy Plexith. 'He's just being polite..one of them will ride gold remember' The bronze pointed out smugly and D'lin rolled his eyes slightly in amusement.

In the days following the Touching event, Aeri had not slept much. While other candidates were content to rely on the adult dragonriders to rouse them if the Hatching began, she would not trust something so important to others. Every morning she awoke before dawn and did not return to bed until long after the sun had set. She was on a watch. When the humming began, she was already awake and ready. Smiling to herself, proud of her wiser planning, the tiny girl took the time to fetch a meatroll for breakfast while her peers were still scrambling to get their act together. Calmly, patiently, she headed for the Hatching grounds, eating as she walked.

As a result of her “taking things easy”, she was not the first one to arrive. That was good. Several other candidates had already collected in front of the buzzing eggs, most of them wearing looks of utter anticipation. Quietly Aeri headed over to the other females. She recognized a few faces (namely her fellow weyrbrats) but had never really talked to any of them much. This was normal – Aeri seldom talked to strangers unless she had good reason to. She had finished her meal and was now fidgeting timidly, looking for all the world like a both harmless and nervous girl.

In reality, she WAS nervous. She had spent so much of her life simply waiting for this moment. Aeri was dying to Impress. If she failed today, it would take months (maybe even a year!) for her to get a second chance. This opportunity for her to escape her dull and meaningless existence and become someone respectable was impossibly important. Hers was here somewhere. She HAD to believe that.

When the first egg to hatch was that disgusting orbiting egg, Aeri cringed. Mentally she cringed even more intensely when the green began to frolic around. If this was to set the tone for the rest of the Hatching, Aeri’s prospects were grim indeed. As the swirling egg hatched to reveal a bronze, a wave of relief swept over her. Bronzes were a good sign, yes? This dragonette’s behavior was no better than his sister’s, but his coloration was enough to make Aeri relax.

There was plenty of potential waiting in the Epsilon Clutch. This Hatching would not disappoint her.

The swirling bronze nuzzled at a few more girls, but stopped abruptly as another loud crack rang across the sands. A jagged, zig-zag line appeared on the clouded egg. The orbiting green, who had been bumbling past it on her way to see the fun head-thing jumped several inches off the ground in surprise and scurried back towards the bronze. Ducking behind him she then peered back at the egg that hard startled her so, but the yellow that had entered her eyes briefly soon faded back to green as her sibling nudged her.

After reassuring his green sibling and studying the clouded egg carefully for a few moments the swirling bronze gave a soft rumble and turned away from the still shaking and wriggling egg, setting off towards the boys with the orbiting green, well, orbiting him. As he drew close to the male candidates the bronze gave her a gentle but insistent nudge as she bounced in front of him, another deep rumble coming from his chest. Much as he seemed to like his sister, she was currently distracting him from inspecting the candidates! This subtle hint did nothing to put the green off her attempts to keep the bronze's attention, however, but fortunately for him she was distracted by another wiggle from the clouded egg. Calling a greeting to her nearly-hatched sibling she turned and set off towards it, perhaps intended to give it some help with cracking out of its shell.

Now left to his own devices the swirling bronze padded along the line of boys, pausing every so often to inspect one of them more closely. When he reached Ruven he chirred softly to himself and came to a complete halt, sitting back on his haunches and studying the young man intently. After a rather long pause, however, he huffed to himself and stood up again, moving on down the line of eager youths in search of the one that was his...

Ah, and there he was! Giving a joyous bugle, the swirling bronze raced over to Hesian.

"There you are! I am your Ammonth, Hesian, we're going to have such a good time together! Will you feed me first though? I'm starving!"

The cracking of the clouded egg made Eliza jump as well, the clouded egg if she recalled correctly from the touching had been a rather angry feeling little egg - it was likely best to keep her eye on that one and while the bronze went off to search through the boys Eliza couldn't help but hold her breath as the little green went towards the orbiting egg...shards don't let the clouded egg come out grumpy and hurt her ! She thought to herself silently.

A quick glance at the bronze revealed that it seemed he had found his and impressed, the first impression being a bronze just had to be good luck she knew and she hoped that that sort of luck held for the rest of the hatching.

Goodness, was that green ever going to Impress? She seemed to just orbit the closest thing to her, when she wasn't being distracted by something. Melina wasn't sure, but she thought dragonets were supposed to be hungry and want to find theirs to be fed. Was something wrong with the little green? There were stories even she had heard about the hunger of newly hatched dragonets......

And then........the bronze took a long pause by a boy, then.......moved on. Oh, he must be so disappointed! But then, yes, he found His! The little bronze Impressed, and Melina was happy that the Hatching had officially started off well. Another egg was hatching, and if Melina remembered right, it was one of the ones that hadn't been all that friendly. Slightly nervous, she shifted from foot to foot, hoping that no one got hurt in the clouded's search for His or Hers.

Gauden watched the Bronze come down the line of boys, checking the ones in front and then looking at the ones behind, working his way through them all. Before he had reached Gauden, however, the Bronze bugled loudly, completely out of character for his behavior so far, and raced over to the boy that Gauden had thought was the one complaining about propriety earlier. He watched the Impression being made with the fascinated eye of an outside observer and even felt excited for the boy who had Impressed. It was early yet. There were plenty more eggs on the sands that could contain partners for the rest of them. Now that the dragons were out... Gauden wasn't as sure that he didn't want a lifepartner as he was before. The look on Hesian's face...

As Gauden looked back at the Clutch to keep an eye out for the next dragonet, he had to wonder if he would feel so generous about the other boys' good luck when it came down to the last few eggs and he was still left standing. He glanced back at Ruven, who the Bronze had paused by for so long. He very much doubted that Ruven was going to feel good about any Impression that wasn't his after that.

Jayden watched the bronze as it made its way down the line of males, of course he didn't really think he had much of a chance at a bronze - who would want to have to make those sort of decisions? - he couldn't help but admire the metallic creature as it passed him by. He felt a bit for the boy it sat in front of then turned away from - that had to be hard but when the bronze seemed to impress he turned his attention back to the sands where the little green seemed to be going to help one of the other eggs.

With the bronze safely Impressed, the distractable green was left alone again, but it looked like she'd have more company very soon. It was the clouded egg, though, so maybe that company wouldn't be as pleasant as the bronze's. As she recalled, that egg had been one of the unpleasant ones, one Nawa wasn't looking nearly as forward to seeing hatch. Not that she didn't want it not to hatch, she just...well, didn't want to be in its way when it did. Hopefully it wouldn't lash out at its green sibling.

Hatching, the hatching was happening! Somehow, Tarel hadn't expected it to happen so soon. It had seemed to be so long while he had waited for this moment, and now that it was finally here, he came to the realization that it hadn't been long at all. He glanced around for Zervon and beamed when he spotted the older boy. He was tempted to wave and call out to him, but seemed to think better of it. He certainly didn't want to upset anyone, and get sent off the sands. So instead he flashed a smile towards his friend before turning his attention back to the eggs.

Luckily he did. A green had hatched! A green! He watched her antics and had to grin. He had been right. The orbiting egg was most certainly the friendly, happy sort. He hoped they would become friends in the future, whoever she Impressed to. He had never before seen a dragon hatching--but he figured even for those who had, it was an awe inspiring sight.

And then the swirling egg hatched. Tarel was surprised, really, to see the dragon was a bronze. He had thought it would be a brown, because of it's friendly behavior. He grinned as he watched the bronze interact with the green. They seemed like good friends already. Shards, it seemed everytime he blinked something happened. His eyes veered from the green, who had apparently found something very exciting in the stands to the bronze, who had Impressed to--well, Tarel didn't think he knew that boy. Hopefully, they would become friends.

That dimglowed green! She wasn't going to find her rider that way. What was she doing, looking in the stands like that? Unless her rider was hidden in the stands... As long as she didn't go between.

The green was certainly making a show of things, from jumping in surprise to bouncing around her brother, to returning to the hatching egg that'd frightened her at first. The clouded egg...that was the one Lena was a little worried over. Its temperament from the Touching had suggested she'd rather not get in its way...though she rather hoped injuries could be avoided, she knew hatchlings with their claws and lack of motor control at times almost inevitably led to some kind of mauling, even if slight.

At least the bronze seemed to have Impressed though? She didn't know the boy he'd Impressed to very well, but since the bronze seemed quite nice, the boy couldn't be too bad either, eh?

"Oh!" Ceta exclaimed, quite unable to help herself as the Bronze seemed to choose his partner. She stared for a moment, then looked at Eliza. "That's the first!"

Her eyes traveled back to the Green and the hatching sibling she was apparently intent on helping. It was sweet, in a way, but Cetalese had had plenty of time to observe the little one and realize that she would flit off as soon as something else had her attention. She might even start helping and then run off to help another sibling or say hello to the next one that came out of its egg. No fast movements either; likely, the Green would see them and think that was an invitation to come over and play without remembering that she had to find someone to Impress.

Her eyes moved from the Green to the clouded egg and then over the other eggs. What eggs looked as if they were cracking? It looked like the small clouded egg would hatch next, but there might be one everyone had missed while they were paying attention to the Green and Bronze.
