....I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude. But "how can I be a Hetalia fan and be so sensitive about stuff like that"? Are you kidding me?
History is controversial enough as it is. It doesn't need to be disgraced because of this fandom, and yet it is. There are cosplayers out there making obscene gestures in front of synagogues. You may think "But what does this have to do with anything?". The Cold War was an extremely rough period of time for many people, particularly those living within the Soviet Union who had to live in horrible conditions. Not everyone lived horribly but I just think it's terribly rude to compare boys fighting to something that's as significant as the Cold War.
I'm not trying to confront, but in my opinion saying something like that would almost be like calling the Ludwig on this guild a Nazi because he's strict about school rules. It's referencing history in a truly awkward and inaccurate way and that's disappointing to me.

I'm not trying to turn this into a historical debate. I just think the two are vastly different subjects that really shouldn't be compared. The Cold War was much, much bigger than a mere disagreement and a relatively touchy subject for many. It's serious business and, in my opinion, shouldn't exactly be applied to two boys who dislike each other, whether they're the "personifications" of two countries involved in conflict or not.

Canada: Fun fact: The Cold War encompassed not only the USA versus USSR conflict but also the Vietnam War and the Korean War as well. So, yes, it's actually a war, though not many are aware of that fact. Also, the whole ordeal with Cuba and the Cuban Missal Crisis.

(Derp on my part of the names of the Vietnamese War and Korean War are wrong. Too tired to properly function at the mo)

oooh ok. well see i remember something my teacher said when i was a junior. that the cold war wasnt really a war and such. but i wasnt into history as much then. hetalia. i admit, did get me more interested in history. So when i can learn the historical things a bit i try to so i dont look dumb when i rp XD. thank you thank you. also thanks for not makin me feel dumb lol razz i plan to pay attention better in my history class for freshmen college this year. ill be more interested if i think of the personifications.

and yea dont be upset mint. i mean if you think about it, no one really goes into detail about ww2 with hetalia. its more so the hmmm geez i dont know how to put this but, the finner details arent mentioned...er something...idk i give up XD i apologize lol

Sure thing! I took World History this past year so I'm a bit up-to-date on my knowledge (I'll likely forget it soon anywho). I like Hetalia and I'll admit that the series helps with History in odd ways, but I found myself really just liking the History aspect of History. My teacher said the opposite of yours, interestingly enough. I guess it really depends on if you count the conflicts with Cuba, Korea, and Vietnam within the boundaries, you know?

I think it's really easy with Hetalia to lose sight of the fact that these wars affected real people and that they're touchy subjects.

honestly that was slightly what iw as getting at. but i didnt know how to put it. noe one calls ludwig a nazi or anything. and thats good casue i also think that would be disrespectful. people used to fear nazis and such and it would also say that germany is only full of nazis if you get what i mean. im not trying to be mean but i understand what ginger is saying as well as itiebows

That's the thing. Hetalia's racist, but knows when to draw the line. It's meant to be funny and amusing and not serious at all. I'm not saying you're making fun of it, I'm just asking for a little more respect when it comes to subjects as poignant as the Cold War.

I'm fairly sure I called you insensitive to others in that.

If you're going to go on about a war in relation to teenage drama you clearly know nothing about the hardships of the people. That should be taken into account before you open your pretty little mouth.

If you need someone to 'translat' something for you I'd pick up a dictionary first. The proper spelling is there for you in case you can't find it.

I'm not offended by your bringing up the topic. It's your careless use of something that was horrific to so many people.

You know it may be racist, but it also happens to keep things in a brighter light, not the ideas of one teenage girl thinking she just might use it to compare the relationships of personifications in a comedic show. They may tap upon touchy subjects, but they don't go spitting on the memory of them.

heya, I'm 19, which means I was born in 1991, in the then-newformed country of Russia! Now, this means I was never a Soviet, unless you count before I was born, but I don't, really, so, anyway! Yes, I'm Russian and I'm 19, so chances are pretty good I have a fairly good grasp of the Cold War, yes?

I'll start this off by saying it wasn't a 'America is a saint and the USSR is the source of all evil' deal, nor was it 'the USSR was a saint and America was the source of all evil'. Now, both of these countries knew exactly what they were doing and are more or less equally at fault.

Let's read up on prior Russo-American relations. For example, economic support was given to the patriots in the American Revolution, and in the Russian Revolution, America supplied food to the poor and hungry in Russia, despite the fact that what was going on was /not/ agreed with. Basically, before this, these nations got along. They were friends, allies. Russia sacrificed its relations with Britain for quite a while for America's sake. They were thrown together from the start, and for a long time, it was beneficial for the both of them.

So for them to be in this state was not only a scary thing on a global scale, both the Soviet Union and the United States were scared shitless of each other. It'd never be admitted, but they really were.

Even after 1991 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the year I came into existence, etc), there was little trust. I know I myself had bomb drills in my school, I don't know if every school in Russia was like that, but mine was. Now, we, the new generation, loved America, the way weaboos love Japan these days. Stars and stripes were the most fetch thing on the face of the planet, we spoke broken English, some of us dreamed of moving to America someday.

But there was still the fear, we were still afraid. What with our nation in such a weak state, wouldn't it just be all too easy for America to knock us out of existence?

Russo-American relations have thankfully warmed since then, though were rough during the Bush administration. We've 'reset' our relations officially, and things are looking up.

But to get here cost so many lives, so many years, so much stress, blood, sweat, and tears. It's really not the type of thing that should be thrown around this way. Maybe it's just because it's personal to me, but I can't help but be a bit offended.

hmmm i wouldnt say its raciest really. i mean. hmm i guess in a way it is but its not. like as an american i can laugh at how the hetalia creator portrays america because thats how we are seen. and then some of the other countries i find interesting on how they would be portrayed. like i thought it was kind of cute japan is easily taken in by sites and such and loves to take pictures. it seems true enough. but that of course doesnt apply to everyone in japan. i dont im terrible at explaining things but, ive never thought of hetalia being racist really. idk my own opinion. lol

It's racist in that "We're making fun of everyone" way, you know? Like, everyone is made fun of.

And really, who wouldn't laugh at America? The poor guy is hilarious and so stereotypical it's amazing.

OK EVERYONE SHUT THE FU
Tiebows: Don't go makeing asumtions, just because i have trubble spelling does NOT mean im a teenager. 9 to 10 say's I'm OLDER the ALL of you.

lilliputious: What are you talking about? No one said any one side was good or evil. Everyone is bitching as me cause i used the "Cold War" to discribe Alfred and Iven posably at eachothers throughts.

And yes Canada very racist, in the english verstion of hetaila it is much more racest cause of all the stariotipical acsents they use. It is born to be racest and funny.
Raceisem is funny thats all there is too it.
And if u all have such a BIG problem cause of one stupid little comment tell Maxi and have her ban me, and go find another America.

I'm here to have a nice RP not to fight over what did and didn't happen and how poorly the people were treating during this and that time.
