Grinning sheepishly, Xiu coughed. "Let's just say...you should be careful with the oil. I added a little too much and...poof." She made a motion with her hands, indicating how the fire had suddenly flared up. "Next thing I knew, the flames managed to reach the kitchen curtains and set them aflame." At the tender young age of nine, Xiu had only watched blankly as her uncle--who had fortunately been supervising at the time--panicked beside her and proceeded to put out the fire.
"So really, this was a good first attempt! A really good one!" At least her kitchen was in one piece, right?
Sure enough, the cleaning had gone very quickly with the two of them working together. Grinning at his words, Xiu nodded enthusiastically. "Please do! I'd love to see what you come up with."
Stepping back, she surveyed her kitchen with a satisfied smile. Everything looked nice and clean, just as it was when they first started cooking. Turning to look at Sheridan, the Baku inclined her head in a small, polite bow. "Thank you for helping me."

Wow. The dragon's eyes widened as she told her story imaging what the blaze must have been like. Note to self: be careful with oil, very careful. Not that he hadn't had his own disasters with ice when he first discovered that he could breath frozen plasma. Once he had even frozen one of the elders to--er, best not to think about that.
"Got it, I'll remember to be careful."
His smile was amused, suddenly not feeling so bad for the oil he had spilled on the counter. At least he knew he could have done worse. Still, it might be a good idea to make sure whatever he chosen to cook on his own for the first time did not involve oil, just to be safe.
The kitchen cleaned, he set the soiled cloth aside.
"Thank you for teaching me."
His expression turned thoughtful. He didn't know what, if any, classes she had that afternoon, but he did want to go get that telescope for her before it got much later.

"You're a good student." She teased lightly, grinning. "We should do this again sometime!" Only next time...hmm, maybe some baking?
Speaking of baking, she vaguely recalled asking Sheridan if he liked spookies earlier. Excusing herself for a moment, she hurried out of the kitchen, only to return with a small batch of spookies wrapped up in colored cellophane and tied off with a ribbon.
"Um...if you'd like them? They...they're nothing special, but..." Xiu smiled with a hint of embarrassment, holding them out to the dragon, "My friend and I were baking the other day, and we made a lot of extras." And when she said a lot, she meant way too many. Even after shipping off some packages to friends, she still had plenty left over.
It was then that she noticed the thoughtful expression on his face and, tilting her head, she blinked at him questioningly. "Something wrong?"

He had forgotten about the spookies she had mentioned, a curious look as he wondered for a moment what she was giving him. And then he remembered, oh, spookies! He considered opening the bag and eating one right then, but decided it might be best to let lunch digest a little while first.
"Thank you, they look delicious."
Those spookies were not going to last long once back in his own room (if they even made it that far). He'd have to make sure he kept them well hidden from his pets, or to eat said spookies before they had time to realize he had them!
"Hmm? No, I was just wondering if you'd like me to set up the telescope for you."
She could even have the chance to use it tonight if she wanted.

Pleased by his response, the Baku gave a little wag of her tail and smiled. color=palevioletred]"I hope you enjoy them!" They were simple sugar cookies, but Xiu was quite fond of them herself (granted that she liked anything sweet). She had meticulously decorated this particular batch with colored icing because she knew she would be giving most of them out. Hopefully Sheridan wouldn't mind the random faces that some of the cookie-people were sporting.
At the mention of the telescope, she perked up. She had nearly forgotten! "Y-yes please! I-if it's not too much trouble!" Even if Sheridan lent it to her, she would have no idea where to start when it came to setting the equipment up. The last thing she wanted to do was mess up and break it too, so asking for help seemed to be the smartest option.
"...Though, are you...are you certain that I can borrow it?" Regardless of whether it was old or new, big or small, telescopes tended to be kind of pricey, didn't they? Or at least, from what she knew about them (which was admittedly not very much).

He had placed the bag of cookies with his book, then turned back with a smile and a nod.
"Yes, it's fine. I don't use it much anymore since I got my new one, it'd be nice to see someone enjoy it again."
Even if it got a few scratches, that was okay too. Scratches just meant it was well used and enjoyed. In his own room it was sadly collecting dust more than anything, and he was happy to encourage an interest in the stars in his new friend.
"I can go get it now if you like, it won't take long to set up."

So long as he genuinely didn't mind, the Baku would take him up on his offer. When he reassured her that it was alright, Xiu beamed, unable to keep the big grin off her face. It was very generous of him to let her borrow it, that was for certain.
"S-sure! I'd like that!" She supposed that she could wait there while Sheridan grabbed the telescope then. Scanning her room, Xiu decided that the best---and most logical--place for the new addition to her room would be by the large, open window. Maybe she could start checking out astronomy books too while she was at it!
Ooh, this was so exciting! Now she could start on a new hobby, and maybe even take a few notes on her findings. Hopefully Sheridan wouldn't mind if she came to him every now and then with questions though, or if she just wanted someone to blab excitedly to about seeing her first constellation or something.

Sheridan smiled with a nod, gathering his book along with the notebook or recipes and the bag of cookies she had given him.
"I'll meet you back here in a couple hours and help you set it up okay?"
He wanted to make sure the telescope had all it's parts, was cleaned and dusted, and in perfect shape for her. He would pay special attention to cleaning the lenses and making sure they weren't scratched, that was after all the most important part of the telescope and the cleaner the lenses the better she could see the stars. He was also thinking of a few books he could bring back with him that would help.
An excited twitch of his tail, the dragon was at the door. He really was a geek when came to matters of science, AND PROUD OF IT!
Oh and those cookies? They so were not making it back to his room, he already had one out of the bag and had chomped it. Mmm, delicious cookies.

"That sounds perfect with me!" A few hours would be fine by her--she still had a bit of homework to catch up on, unfortunately. As much as she wished she could ignore it, she knew that homework came first, and playtime (even if it was educational) would have to come later. At least with all her assignments done, she could stay up and stare into the telescope as much as she wanted!
Waving after Sheridan as he left, she chirped a cheerful, "See you later!" before shutting the door after him. Xiu's gaze fell onto the textbooks sitting on her desk next, and she sighed loudly.
Well, better get cracking. She was sure that the hours would fly by in no time at all.
