"Hah. Why should I waste my time getting upset over something so infantile and utterly boring," Deimos responded. "It doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever, so they can go to the crows for all I care." Which was true, sadly. Dei didn't seem to care all too much about anyone outside of immediate family. Blood was just as thick as water, and everyone had to work to get into his good graces. Shockingly, few tried.

"Hmph, more's the pity. A little good, old-fashioned fighting helps strength all those lovey dovey bonds." Which Dei found to be quite true. You kept things bottled up and it tended to stew and make things worse when it came out. Better to be upfront and honest from the start.

"Isn't it supposed to work the opposite way? I'm pretty sure my parents raised me not to fight." Morana shook her head "Though it wouldn't be the only way they've raised me wrong" It made her giggle to think just what they would do if they heard the things she was saying about them.

"Tch. It's delusional to think that when you find your life partner that you'll never fight. You're not one person, you're two separate people with two separate personalities. Conflict happens." A scowl passed over Dei's face. "The worst are those who try to change each other into something more compatible. It never works, and usually ends badly." He didn't say how he would feel if that happened to him personally, though the look on his face probably spoke in more volumes than his voice.

"Is that so?" Morana said softly. She didn't want to tell him that her parents had done exactly that. Yes, believe it or not, she hadn't always been like this. She used to be all sorts of carzy hyper when she was a kit. But that changed when her parents laid out the mothers of all guilt trips on her when she wasn't 'the perfect child'. Making her feel bad for being herself, it was horrible.

" I guess you are right one one thing. My parents split, they couldn't decide how their child should act." It occurred to Mora that she was admiting what she thought she didn't want to tell Deimos. But she didn't care for that second. Let him know what they turned her into, everyone had always said the best thing one could do was be themselves, but she'd only pretended to listen. Maybe now it was time she actually did.

Deimos actually chuckled. "Ah, that. Well you shouldn't feel bad for them making you feel guilty. Parents know what strings pull our hearts cause they're the ones that tied them. Shame they split over it." Dei shrugged. "I've had my parents fight once or twice when we first came along." He grinned evilly. "They stopped after I walked in on a fight and called them both idiots. After that they were pretty united in dealing with me."

And then Dei threw back his head and laughed, a merry and amused sound. He'd always found his parents arguing hilarious, anyway, since their fights never really seemed like fights. Their faces when he'd told them off as a kit though! That was about the time it was clear he was emulating his paternal grandfather. With a personality like that you didn't raise him, you just suffered through it. His mom had said as much, in a very wry tone, to his dad.

Mora chuckled. So laughter really was contagious after all. "You really are something" She told the male. Though if that something was good or bad she didn't know. Like I care she added to that thought.

Good and bad was trivial to Morana. When one thought for most of their life they were incapable of emotions like hate, it didn't matter what side someone was on. She felt the same feelings for everyone, excluding her family. Or so she thought...she liked this daeva more than the others. Deimos wanted her to be herself, when she could be anyone he wanted.

Deimos just shrugged. He already knew that. He'd been hearing it for as long as he could remember, though not always in a good way. "Yea, well. I blame my grandma and great-grandma," he said, feining disinterest and flexing his claws to leave little holes in the earth at his feet.

A sudden shift in the temperature made Morana glance skyward. The clouds were rolling in and a cool breeze was blowing against her face. She closed her eyes for a moment, preferring the cold. It probably had something to do with the snowflake over her eye. Almost like she carried a little bit of winter with her no matter the season.

"Well then if I ever meet them, I'll have to thank them." She laughed and left it at that. Deimos could make what he wanted of it. Silence had always bothered Morana, it was when foxes were most likely to see through her act. Perhaps in time, as she got closer to finding herself, it would stop.

Deimos shrugged carelessly. "If you do ever see them it'll be a surprise to me," he said. "My mom hadn't seen her mother since she was a kit. She actually may never had met her mother, I never asked. And my great-grandma, well. Apparently she and great-grandpa hate each other. He has a thing against Phims, Daevas, and tribes."

Dei hummed under his breath, thinking. "Actually, it seems to have been a family tradition. My great-grandparents weren't mated, they just had kids together then went their separate ways. My grandparents were the same, that's how Dad was born. I think grandma might have mentioned one of my great-uncles had kids the same way, and two of his kids did the same." Dei tilted his head. "I guess me and Jitana broke that cycle, since our parents are mated. That and Grandma hooked up with some green fox and they had some children. And maybe I have some new great aunts and uncles from my great-grandpa, I dunno."

Dei snorted. He'd only met one of his half-uncles before, and Apollo could be very annoying. All the others, the great-half aunts and uncles that his gran might have mentioned he'd never seen before. Never met any of his greats, come to think of it. Ah well, less names to remember. Really, it was amazing he'd even remembered everything he just told to Morana!

((Technically, Deimos, you are crackbreed. I entered Dakari into the crackbreeding contest, and just happened to enter his mate as his partner since Sitara is so amazingly gorgeous. You could have be an illegit baby as well though, remember that!))

"I don't see how there's anything wrong with crackbred foxes, or 'phims, or 'daevas or any type of fox. But being...well, me i don't understand some things about what is good and what's not" She'd always been puzzled about lifemating in particular. How was it different from mating and why was it supposed to be for life? There was no point staying with someone if you no longer liked them. The fued between 'phims and 'daevas was another. That didn't make sense either and was just racist.

"Do you hum when you're happy, or just thinking? Or is it both? Should i hum when I'm happy?"
It felt like a stupid question, but Mora was interested why foxes had such habits and quirks to them. If she found out more about them she might be able to develop her own. Maybe that would make her more of an individual and help her find herself

((Morana is starting to sound like Static in this post...Run for your life!!! XD))

Deimos gave Morana a half exasperated, half amused glance. "I hum when I'm thinking," he said. "And it's not so much a hum as it is me exhaling and making a prolonged sound with the breath. To hum implies a song of some sort, and I do not sing."

Actually he had a very pleasant baritone. It was just that he could never think of things to sing about, so he decided that he just wouldn't sing at all.

"And the other stuff, don't worry about it. That's just my family history. I've got a lot of old folks in my family, with weird quirks and pasts and reasons for why they do and act what they do." Dei definetly didn't want Morana to get confused and think his family was normal, and that she had to emulate them to understand normal. But, just for good measure-

"They're weirdos, so whenever I bring them up just....ignore all of it in regards to this personality hunt thing."

Morana gave Deimos a sidelong glance. Ah, he didn't want her to be like his family. Did that mean that there was something wrong with them? He probably didn't want to give her the wrong impression on how foxes behaved. But Mora already knew how others behaved. She'd been studying them and copying them for years. What she didn't know was how she should act.

"I'm a wierdo too, but ok then"
There wasn't any sadness in her voice, like when other foxes admitted being wierd. Mora accepted that not all foxes changed thier personalities to suit others, and therefore she was abnormal. She actually didn't care if she was wierd, she realised. It actually made her more of an individual. Zebras, that's what they were called. They acted the same and tried to be the same just for the sake of fitting in, there was no way of telling them apart.

Deimos snorted disbelievingly. "Tell you what. When you drop someone in a lake, insult their intelligence, and throw pinecones at them as part of courtship, I'll believe you're weird. Or when your first son to a stranger, find out someone kidnaped your son from the stranger, make the stranger your mate, then sneak into hositle territory to kidnap your son back."

Dei stopped then, but from the lifted head and the dramatic set to his eyes it was clear he had could have gone on in the same exaggerated fashion. "Trust me, compared to my family you are completely normal."

"Wow..." Was all Morana could say to that. Foxes were bizzar sometimes. "What about you? Have you done anything as wierd as that?

Mora felt something drip onto her head. Confused, she rubbed her head with her paw and then looked up. The clouds from before covered the sky as it started to rain. If they didn't find shelter soon, they'd both end up soaked. "I think we'd better find someplace dry...unless you like being soaked" She said, still watching the clouds.

"Maybe I have, maybe I haven't," Deimos responsed, shrugging but then grinning just a little. He usually wasn't secretive, but he did like to tease others every now and then.

At that moment a fat drop of icy rain splashed down right on Dei's nose. He wrinkled his face and cast a glare up at the sky. "Fire and water doesn't really mix, so I'd rather find a dry place," he replied, looking back down and around the forest for a spot to take shelter.
