Takashi watched Aiken for a moment, then forced his paws under his body and shoved himself upwards. For a moment he stood, wobbling a little, then he moved towards Aiken. His steps were slow and lurking, but his face showed no pain. He made it over to Aiken and had to sit, but looked at her seriously. It was kinda ironic that, given how silent the two normally were, now everything was coming down to what they said.

And Takashi, who had never sung for anyone before, began to sing. It was one of Peri's favorite songs at one point in time so he was very familiar with it. Though it was his first time singing for something, his baritone voice actually rang out with as much purity as Aiken's had.

When he rose she blinked as he came closer to her and sit down in-front of her. She hadn't expected a song to escape his lips. Was he...singing? Why did that touch her so much? Because he was talking to her in a way she understood very well, and that was through song. If she had to open her mouth she preferred it to be through song.

And as he sang she listened, eyes wide and disbelieving. Why was it that he had felt this way and she never knew? And why her? Why were those words being used for her? Why was she the home for his heart?

Yet, did it matter? She had heard once no one knew why they loved the people they did. When the song ended she stared at him, raw emotion across her face. Whether it had been the words of the song or the fact that he was still before her she knew one thing, one fact.

She couldn't leave him.

And so she did something unlike her, moving up to Takashi and then resting her head against his neck, ears back slightly. And she knew if he could tell her how he felt, then she could too.

"I love Takashi, too."

Takashi was bruised practically all over his body, but Aiken was so gentle when she touched him that it didn't add any new hurts. He laid his own head down on the back of Aiken's neck and sat there, holding her close and humming softly.

In that moment he prayed that he would get better faster, and that next time he would never allow Aiken to feel this much pain because of him again.

Aiken allowed herself to be pulled closer, as long as it was only Takashi. She had said her feelings and would probably not need to again. She didn't want to leave Takashi, he understood her and made her happy, this much she knew. Without him she would become that empty shell, and now it frightened her with that thought. She didn't want to become that shell again.

Somehow, she had fallen asleep during his humming, finding it appealing as the vibrations through his chest reached her ear and the sound was pleasant. Gently, the vixen had rested her head against him, tail loosely beside his.

-Time Skip-

When morning rose Aiken's eyes flicked open, glancing up at the harsh sun. Warm. Something warm was near her. Her blue eyes flicked right as she remembered last night, spotting Takashi.

Takashi, the man she had allowed herself to sing for, the man she had spoken to and said her purest feelings. Did this mean they were mates? Were they one another's now? What about his family, would they approve? She had no family, but she knew he had one. Would they accept a vixen that did not encourage him to talk, unlike most mates of other foxes? Weren't mates supposed to help bring the other out?

Even still, she was happy where she was, rested against his dark fur.

Takashi himself was in a deep, healing sleep.

He hadn't slept so much so like the dead since the first night he was injured. Even then that hadn't been anything like this. Perhaps it had been his worry for Aiken's physical state that made his rest after the fight with the cougar less than peaceful, and after that he only slept in lightly, able to be roused at any moment and only falling back under because of his body's need for rest.

This time he was both assured of Aiken's physical health, and now he was sure that he had fixed whatever had plagued her the last couple days. Perhaps not eradicated it, but it was enough that Aiken was at peace now.

In his sleep Takashi sighed, stretching just a little and unconsciously snuggling a bit closer to the warmth at his side.

Aiken blinked when he nuzzled closer, then looked side to side. When she saw nothing, not even a squirrel, she risked a small smile. A small one though. She rested her head lightly on Takashi's back, careful to not rest it on a wound, and eyed the sky.

If Jack or Chrome saw this.... Chrome would tackle both of them and Jack would call her a freak, again. Ah, Jack and Chrome were her friends from before, and both were complete opposites.

She wanted to get up, to get him food. To get him new bandages. Though, she was slowly becoming to tired herself to get food for him. She needed to eat soon so she could help Takashi more, she was making herself a burden at this pace.

Takashi found himself reluctantly returning back to the world of consciousness. He wasn't awake yet, not fully, and since he was still clinging to sleep it was slowing the process down. It was so nice though, Aiken's pleasant warmth and sweet scent in his nostrils, the comforting sound of her breathing and her beating heart.

For the first time in days there was no little aches, physical or otherwise, bothering him to wake up and deal with them.

Nope, Takashi defintely didn't want to wake up just yet.

Even if he did want to still sleep she needed to get up. He needed food, and she needed food, too. She would not be able to care for him if she was becoming sick from not eating. So, she gently slipped away, letting Takashi gently touch the ground, and wandered off to find him breakfast.

It took her half an hour, and when she returned she had two rabbits and her tail was curled around leaves. She dropped her gathered items, sat, and waited patiently for Takashi to wake.

It was the lack of Aiken's presence that woke him more than anything. Takashi finally raised his head, blinking sleepily. Aiken wasn't next to him. He looked around, mind becoming clearer as he did so. No, Aiken wasn't anywhere around. For a brief moment he heartbeat sped up, then he calmed himself.

He was hungry, and he was sure she was too. She'd been vanishing periodically the last few days anyway to find food for him. Yes, that had to be it. He didn't think she'd just leave, he'd have felt that from her.

Trying to make time go faster Takashi put his head back down on his paws, closing his eyes and listening for Aiken's return. Finally he heard what he'd been listening for, the soft padding of paws against the ground. A tiny smile lifted the corners of his mouth, and as Aiken sat down in front of him he opened his weathered gold eyes.

When his eyes opened she nudged a rabbit to him, grabbing a leaf and approaching him. Gently, she pried off his make-s**t bandages and applied the new ones, pausing. They were mates now. She could act differently. Unsure what to do (She was new to all this) she used her paw to lower his ear slightly, licking it before going to the other rabbit she had claimed for herself. Her stomach rumbled, how long had it been since she last ate?

Blue eyes met gold. She stared at him, tail flicking just once. All he had to do was look at her and she felt like going back over and snuggling into him. No, she needed to make sure he ate and was healthy and healed. That was her job currently, to care for Takashi and make sure he could one day walk normally.

((Now we need something else for them to do >_> ))

Takashi waited until his mate had finished her administrations, then gingerly leaned forward and plucked up the rabbit Aiken had dropped in front of him. It had only become possible for him to actually eat on his own in the last couple days, but he hadn't really had an appetite for anything. Too worried over Aiken, probably.

He paused, half bent over the rabbit with part of it in his mouth and ready to pull at the flesh, then glanced over at Aiken. A tiny gleam of amusement made his posture quite clear; he wasn't going to continue to eat until Aiken also started to eat.

When he didn't make a move further to eat her eyes locked on him. Was he.... he was. He was waiting for her. Stubbornly the vixen stared back, ears back. If she ate there would be less food for Takashi, who needed food to recover.

However... if she didn't eat nor would he. She already knew how stubborn he was, matched with her. The blonde glanced down at the meat and complied, just this time, bending down to grab a leg and taking it to the side, tail flicking lazily as she ate, her eyes on Takashi.

Hmpf. He better eat..

Takashi allowed for the smallest of smiles to cross his expression, then assumed a very innocent expression as he set about eating his own rabbit. He had to moved slowly, for muscles were still a bit tender and stiff from lack of use. In this case it happened to be an advantage, since he didn't need to eat as much if he wasn't as active. Eating slowly helped make him feel fuller on less than he might normally eat on a good day of hunting.

Finished, Takashi fastidiously cleaned his muzzle against his paws, then cleaned the paws themselves until the black fur gleamed. He looked up at Aiken, cocking his head to the side and lifting a brow in inquiry. What were they to do now, then? He was well enough to move a little ways if she wanted to change their current living conditions. She could have come across something more convient than the this spot, and was just waiting for him to get well enough to move himself.

If this was the prime spot still, there were things that could be done. Better bedding conditions for both of them, and a quick clean-up of the area so they didn't attract more scavengers. In a few more days Takashi might even be up to travel again; it was just purest fortune he'd broken no bones!

The vixen finished with her food. She hadn't found a new place, not yet, but she had found straw and leaves that could be used as bedding. The vixen stood, scanning their little home before flicking her tail side to side in faint agitation. Hm. Perhaps a den would suit him better. As emotionless as usual she circled him, poked at the ground, and determined it was to hard for him.

So, with that she moved to the side to scan for abandoned fox holes. A cave could work. She glanced down at Takashi, scanning his body. Hm... could he walk? Probably not well at least. Though if he was left out in the open he was in more danger...

Letting out a sigh that almost became a whine. Most vixens would just ask someone, but she didn't see a need. He hadn't asked to be moved, therefor it wasn't currently a huge need in his mind. She was the care-taker, anyway, and needed to find him a place to rest. She was hurt, yes, but far less than he was.

So, she waited for him to finish, and when he was she moved to his side, nosing his arm, a sign she wanted to lift him. He had carried her constantly throughout the weeks, she could try and help him walk.

Takashi looked down at Aiken, puzzled for a moment then with understanding lighting up his eyes. He stood carefully, slowing distributing his weight. He could have carried himself and he was afraid that even fully healed Aiken could never carry all his weight. Damaged as they both were, he didn't want to put too much weight on her and harm her further.

He was very careful about how he shifted himself, putting just as much pressure as he thought as needed and no more. He also made sure to balance himself so that if he felt Aiken falter he could take more weight off her until they got a proper system.

If he had a choice he'd have walked himself as far as he could, but Takashi knew Aiken could be quite stubborn, and would know if he was just half-heartedly leaning instead of letting her help him. That was how partnerships worked, you helped each other. It wouldn't be fair of him to deny Aiken when she clearly did want to help.
