Ever took the bump as an invitation to catch Zac around the waist and draw him through the water. At least he didn't pull him downward -- he just worked to support Zac so he wouldn't have to keep treading water, so he could relax a little and finish his drink.

"I think, at this point, you should resign yourself to your height. Or invest in platform shoes." He wiggled his eyebrows at that, nudging Zac over toward the edge of the pool, draping his own arm up over the lip so that his beer tipped absently, not quite spilling into the water. "You should grab those chips, too.

"Easier to accept when you don't have to step on shelves to get things in the grocery store." He chuckled and levered himself up enough to reach the chips and drag them and hooked the precarious tower of chip dips closer too.

"There... want me to open it?" He said tapping the foil lid. He worked open the chips on his own though and pulled out a tortilla chip and crunched down it. "Mmmm..." He mumbled and pulled open the salsa lid and dunked the next one before sinking more into the pool.

"....platforms huh?" He said -almost- sounding serious. "... as long as YOU promise not to wear them, then I think I can agree not to either."

"Promise not to wear them, but I won't promise not to tease you." He fidgeted, adjusting Zac so he could take another long sip of his drink, working through the piss-poor beer. Not all beer was terrible, he'd heard, but Ever had never bothered to buy anything other than the absolute bottom rack. It was for getting drunk and that was really it.

"I got the heels off of my shoes once, I have no desire to get them back." Just a little shake of his head, chin resting against Zac's shoulder. Definitely waiting for him to open those chips.

Zac elbowed him lightly and pried open the other bag of chips. "There..." He said and grabbed his beer and -stared- at it for a long moment before taking a long drink and grimacing. "Ugh...man." he said setting it down again and dipping one of the tortilla chips to clear the taste out. "...the way some people in the dorms find a way to smuggle this kind of thing in and GUZZLE it... you'd think there was something GOOD about it."

"...way too hot..." he said and dunked under the water again for a moment, when he came up again though he paused at the pool edge and leaned over to give Ever a kiss.

"....So... did I interrupt your evening? You were all dressed up when I got there... Hot date?"

"Apparently so." Flattery got you everywhere, right? Except that he kind of regretted saying it as soon as the words were past his mouth. He and Zac had never discussed what, exactly, they were doing here -- and the simple fact of the matter was that he didn't want to discuss it. It was fine. They shouldn't ruin it with labels and conversations and promises that, quite frankly, probably wouldn't get filled.

He reached out to grab some chips as a distraction, setting his beer down on the edge of the pool with his eyes skating away from Zac. "I was going to go out to a club, I think. Been a while. Since I did it for fun, I mean..."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 8:19 pm

"... so take tomorrow off... it should be cooler and I'll know better than to drop in without calling first." He said, his own eyes drifting the other way. He didn't like the idea of Ever finding 'someone else'... but at the same time... it wasn't like they were 'a thing'...they ... they just -were-.

"... or you can go tonight, you didn't have to do the pool thing, though I appreciate the company... a lot more than the beer honestly." he flicked the edge of the can lightly. He felt like he should make it up to Ever some how.

"...I can tell you some other good places to uh...hunt for energy if you want... that way you won't spoil clubs. I mean it's not like I 'work' at the library..."

"Nah, I manage alright. I'll go this weekend or something." He shrugged off the concern in a deliberate manner, not willing to discuss it. The simple matter was that if Ever didn't want to be here, he wouldn't be. Zac hadn't forced him out of the house or demanded his presence. Ever was an adult, and as such, he made his own decisions.

This was getting too serious, so he stole a kiss and some more chips both, polished off his beer, and started to squash the can against the edge of the pool before he caught himself. That would make a considerable amount of noise. Terrible idea. "..hum. We should make a lot of noise before we leave, later. Give the guards a run for their money."

"...Do you LIKE being chased?" He said shaking his head. "I'll remind you they are all -taller- than me, Even if I had a head start they'd probably hang me up by my boxer shorts while you got away!"

He made a few more sips at his own beer before returning to the chips as a sort of life line for keeping his tongue from curdling and gave a Yawn, only half stifled in the curve of his arm. "Damnit..." He swore and shook his head. "Do you need your next beer or..."

"Don't stress. You want to go shallower so you can set your feet down?" He said it solemnly, seriously, as if he wasn't poking fun but -- well, he couldn't help himself, and he couldn't help the flash of laughter through his expression. It wasn't wise to tease the tiny general, but it was fun. And, well, to be honest, it was probably smart to move shallow enough that Zac could relax some.

"We can haul the picnic along with us, if you do." There, that was almost sensitive. But only almost. "And I can crouch."

"Funny, really funny, I even forgot to laugh." He said and made a face at Ever. "Remind me to test your reflexes with a smoke bomb next time that we're in uniform. Besides... at least if I sort of float I can -pretend- I'm closer in height to you.... sort of." He finished the last of his own can with almost no face, still not enjoying it but at least caring less about the abysmal taste.

"Bleh..." He anounced and shoved the empty further away. "...I feel like I should make conversation but I haven't a clue what to say." He admitted.

"Drink more. That's what it's for." His smile was lopsided, though, eyes distant as he looked past Zac. Thinking about something else, maybe, even with an arm still loose around the other man's waist, cuddled up near the edge of the pool. This was nice. It was also, weirdly, awkward as hell.

"Or we could not chat." Teasing, with a wiggle of his eyebrows and expression coming back into focus, but his smile still didn't quite even out. "It's just hard because I don't think you want to talk the serious s**t over, right now, but I don't know what else to bring up."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:57 pm

".. I never want to talk about... civilian life serious." He admitted with just a touch of old bitter in his voice. "... not family anyhow, I'd leave... the better part of it at least, behind if I could. I hate it... Maybe it's escapist but I like it better behind my mask and uniform." He sighed.

"But... I'll entertain questions and answers tonight, If I can't trust my... captain who can I trust?" He nudged at Ever with a foot, an almost casual gesture that was at least a little awkward in its efforts to make it 'casual'.
He covered that by dragging them each an extra beer into reach.

"Mmm." He could have teased back, could have winked or pressed the younger man up against the pool. That was, he thought, why they'd been there; it was what he'd been expecting. A little messing around in a stranger's pool, a little adventure. As ever, Zac surprised him, made Ever shift and wonder at himself and feel just a little guilty for the thought.

Not many people did that to him.

He went for a drink and just kicked back a little as he cracked the can open, shoulders rolling in a shrug and smile fading out some. "Tell me something true about you, Zac. Anything you like."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:14 pm

"...something true?" He repeated. The words weighed curious, strange. An odd request he thought, mutual surprise, unsurprisingly surprising. It was the paradox of Ever, of Ilemnite.

"Anything?" He mused, he could say something cheep, shallow and casual, that would be what he normally did. After all... everyone left in the end. There was no getting around that, anyone you wanted to stay... left. The only constants were those like his Mother...who needed to be left, they would not leave on their own.

"...That feels harder to answer than the ... simplicity of the request." He admitted with a small frown. "...Anything I like..." He said again and took a deep breath and sipped at the terrible beer.

"... I hate my family." He said at last, it seemed a simple statement, every teenager in the city probably spent a great deal of time feeling the same way, but there was something with more 'body' behind that word hate. Like hate didn't even begin to cover the half smothered fury that the very word 'family' brought up for him. "I -really- hate them..."

Ever made a noise about that, arms folded over the edge of the pool and the can cupped between two hands. His arms were skinny, pale; boney fingers shifting and fidgeting as he watched his beer instead of Zac. That was definitely something true, and also definitely not something flippant or absent, and it deserved similar treatment.

"I don't know how much that's actually about you." It came out slow, Ever clearing his throat as he looked back up. "I mean, that sounds more like it's something about them than about....you know what I mean?"
