It was a trap. She knew that it was too quiet. Clara froze when she saw the arrow all pointing towards them. She felt uneasy. The myrmidon let go of her sword knowing there was no way she could fight them. But what could she do? If she surrendered, who knows what they would do to her. If she even tried to do something else she could get arrowed, though it would be a little hard to hit her. Then she heard a voice.

"Sir we need to regroup later. Right now the best option is to scatter into the side streets around us. We won't be surrounded that way." Clara then saw the person running to the side street. The guy had a plan with Horatio's words backing him up. She took that as a signal to get going. She too now charged her way to a side street. The grip on her sword tightened again ready to take on anyone if the stood in her way.

Although Mia usually wore a bright smile on her face, as they walked through the gates into the city that smile faded away into a more contemplating frown of concentration.... It was pretty clear from the atmosphere that something was... wrong.... No matter where she looked she didn't see anyone. The citizens were missing... But they'd likely been captured and imprisoned somewhere... If they were dead, they weren't killed there. There wasn't any blood or any sign of struggle.... But it would be fruitless to kidnap an entire populus just to kill them- if slaughter was the intent then doing so in the city itself would have been enough... It was likely that the people were being held hostage... But by who?

No sooner had this string of thoughts gone through Mia's head when the gates began grinding shut. Her hand immediately went to the hilt of her blade, ready to fight, but she otherwise made no move. Even with her agility there was no way she could make it out in time... And even if she could, she wouldn't leave her comrades behind... Or miss a good fight for that matter.... She did however kick herself for not acting on her instincts sooner and point out they were being watched....
Now it was too late. Whoever this forboding guy was, his intentions were not good... Taking them as hostages..... Well, she wasn't going to give in that easily. If only Soren were there... He always came up with bright ideas... he'd be able to find a way to take down those archers no problem.

"Sir we need to regroup later. Right now the best option is to scatter into the side streets around us. We won't be surrounded that way."

Mia's smile returned. So maybe the idea wasn't Soren caliber, it was still pretty clever for on the spot.... And they were still in the game.... Which meant she'd get to fight after all. Her smile widened. Maybe losing out on that sparring match wasn't such a bad thing after all.

"Hey let's go Lena!" She grabbed the sleeve of their healer and tugged her in the direction of one of the side streets, beaming brightly as they took off out of sight, "You're the last person we want to get peppered with arrows!" They'd be in more trouble than they already were if their healer got hurt.

User ImageThe hands I'd kept clean
Now look dirty
Before I can doubt my memories
My memories are doubting me...

Annis had offered to come because, really, there wasn't much else to do. And it was a scouting mission; if there was anything Annis could do, it was scout. Wings came in handy for covering long distances, after all. She was unusually silent, however, as they entered Arajudia. She knew when it was time to be cheery, and when to be serious, and... to be totally honest, this was ******** disturbing.

It was as if the entire city had gone and vanished overnight. There was no sign of life, not even in the recent past. Annis kept her hands at her sides, near her holsters. It was a bit of a crapshoot as to whether or not her enemies would notice them - some laguz did carry knives for mundane purposes, after all - but it was a nagging thought she kept having. Why not try for an element of surprise and hide them? It was a good question, honestly.

And then... the closing gate. Annis held back the sigh, tensing up. It was still bad, but really, she only could think: Did they seriously think that just closing a single gate would keep them all trapped? There were always multiple exits from a walled town, not to mention that Annis herself could fly... she flattened her wings to her back, though, trying to make herself look less threatening. They were useful, but huge targets in battle nonetheless.

"You... are not the new Estarcian king."

Annis stared at the young man that now stood before them, elevated above them. She simply let him speak for a few minutes, then... "Wow, you're a really egotistical little b***h, aren't you?" she commented. While she made no pains to lower her voice, she didn't take the steps to make sure she could be heard, either. She sighed, rubbed a hand against her forehead. The arrows thudding into the cobblestone certainly made her shudder, but she kept her cool. Note to self: No flying unless entirely necessary. She looked back at him. Fight or flight? ...Metaphorically speaking.

Ziaram chose for them.

Annis grinned. "Sounds like a plan to me!" She took off after Horatio, sprinting after the redhead. Hopefully they would consider her less of a threat, open themselves up later, and... then she could strike. Even through the fear, her adrenaline was already pumping.

This was definitely going to be exciting.

As they all began to dart into the side streets, he waved his entire hand and the archers began to fire. They did not aim to kill, only to strike a limb, preferably the leg. However, the targets quickly went out of sight. The man had not expected any of the arrows to hit. Once the group had chose their course, he only had the archers attack to ensure they all scattered.

The man stared down into the empty main street, grinning ever so slightly. "...Stupidity it is, then."

In the side streets, Mordachean soldiers were waiting. Some were already out in the streets, charging for the group members, while others waited for them to get close and then jumped out of the doorways of houses. Some archers were changing their position and looking down to shoot at the first sight of them, while other archers were rushing down, to get out of the houses and fire from ground level. Things were getting hectic, fast.

"I cannot bear to watch others come to harm...

Lena felt Mia tug on her arm. It touched her that the other thought she was valuable, but she was not completely unarmed. Lena was tempted to tell the other girl to let go until a hail of arrows came down trying to separate the small group.

Lena held on to Mia as they ran, but there were multiple archers and foot solders around. She was almost certain people were separating. She tried to get out something to help them, but she didn't have something for as many enemies as they were facing against. The best she could really do without being wasteful was put one of the solders ahead of the street they were running down to sleep.

"Is everyone with us?!" Lena shouted to the group. "Mia, can I trust you to fight well while I check on the others?" she asked the fight-hungry girl.

... knowing I have the power to help."

(Your post made me smile, Wrath. I can just imagine what Lena looked like when you dragged her off)

Mia raised an eybrow at Lena when the girl asked if she was up for a fight, "Well I'm here aren't I?" She asked in return, her smile widening as she drew her sword. She wondered in the back of her mind if Lena's query was a rhetorical one- Soren had always asked her rhetorical questions... She was really horrible with them... But she wasn't horrible with fighting, and since that was what she had to do at that moment, she figured she was good to go.

"On your six Lena!" She exclaimed, forcing some of the soldiers that tried to separate them to jump back to avoid a wide slash of her sword; then she swiped the blade again at the air in front of her, creating a gust of wind that blew their foes back further. She was glad that she'd chosen a windblade as her weapon of choice before they left, it was useful in situations like this.

There were a lot of enemies, but for now she wasn't having too much trouble keeping up with Lena and watching her back.... For now though... Mia knew that she wouldn't be able to take on so many without taking a couple of blows forever.

Chince had no idea where she had run to, all she knew was that she had started running. This was a respectable strategy... if it was what she thought it was... but it didn't seem likely. In fact this felt like they were running away... except they seperated. She tried thinking back to what was said before the ambush. But she was having trouble. She looked behind to see if anyone was following her. There wasn't. She was by herself. Her side street ended abruptly turning at an angle towards another path.

She quickly ran down it and saw several men lying down unconscoius in the streets. She hurdled over them and continued down the path, instinctively jamming her sword pommel through any openings, a tactic a freind had taught her for city fighting on the move.

If her orientation was correct she was now heading towards the barracks with that odd man on it. She was pretty sure she didn't want to do that. Another passage was coming up, she took it and ran through. A few other twists made her lose orientation. Was that purple hair?

"Tree Girl!" Chince called out to Clara trying to catch up. She picked up her pace and joined her. "Where are we going?" She said instinctively smashing her sword pommel into a soldier's face as he approached from a side alley. That was the second time it had ever worked in her life.

(edit: I realize that some might not have picked up that Chince ran across the soldiers that Mia took out.)

"I cannot bear to watch others come to harm...

Lena got the person behind her with Shine, but just narrowly. "Thank you, Mia! Watch out for any above and distance attacks!" From what she saw it was only herself and Mia as the others got separated from them in the hail of arrows. Mia seemed to be fairly uninjured, so Lena kept up the new offensive front. She got a new solder with a critical hit, even, but she still hated the feeling she was taking life and not restoring it. As it seemed there were quite a few to either be killed by or to kill; there was no letting Mia try and fend them all off herself, no matter how much the girl loved to fight.

"Mia! There are too many!" she shouted hitting one going after the optimistic sword user with Shine once again. In return, though, she was hit by a javelin near her shoulder. Lena felt so weak getting hit already and feeling the pain seem to course through that arm especially. Even as a strong bishop and sage, her health was fairly untrained. They had to find the others soon; and ambush on just one could very easily have someone already dead, but Lena refrained from thinking like that trying to summon another attack.

... knowing I have the power to help."

(So many spells... I'm taking mild license in what she uses. I'm using some from various games, I'm so sorry if that's not alright! She won't use any that are specifically meant for someone else, like I think Thani was for Micaiah or such...!)

-----------------------------------------

Clara was mowing her way through the side street. She had to keep them off of her. It was an instinct to he, so anyone who got close to her was getting slashed at. So when Chince was catching up to her, the myrmidon spun around and almost slashed her. The fact that she recognized her as an ally is what made Clara stop. She was not happy that someone got too close and she almost killed them.

"Can you please give me some space to fight here!?" Clara yelled, "I'm really jumpy right now from all the enemies and I almost killed you for getting to close!" With that she ran off to fight off more people.

You may call me useless for the fact that I am learning swordsmanship with my left arm

The first thing he ran into after he had made their decision was the fact that there were soldiers ready to greet them. He smiled, bringing up his killing edge. They were already charging towards him, so all he had to do was side step and slash down at them to make them useless to their commanders. He could have continued doing this if it wasn't for the fact that they had to regroup.

Although something came to his attention quickly when he heard an allies voice close by. Leaping onto a crate, avoiding a spear that had gone towards him, he looked behind him, noticing that both Mia and Lena were coming in the same direction he was. Leaping down from the crate, he slashed down that soldier that was trying to attack him. He then started to sprint towards them when he saw the javelin tossed at Lena, and brought his killing edge down on the enemy that was attacking her. "You said you would tend to my wounds, yet here I am protecting you." He looked at her, a slight smile on his face, though that quickly returned to his usual expression. "We gotta hurry up. We have no idea when the next wave of enemies will come, and if we remain here we won't be able to regroup with the others. We will do what we can to keep you safe."

I say that this is just another challenge for me to overcome while my arm is recovering

In terms of skill, Mia knew that she had a lot more than any one of the soldiers attacking her; it wasn't that their moves were sloppy, but that she was more experienced, and thus was able to dodge and counter easily. However, what their strength lacked in experience, it made up for in numbers. For all the trueblade's enthusiasm, even she recognized when a fight got that out of hand. Lena was right. There were simply too many.... They were being forced back the way they'd come- towards the city's main entrance again.

The assault was becoming more brutal as more soldiers leaped out at them, and it was steadily becoming harder for Mia to defend the magic user... And then her worries were realized when she got caught up in blasting a group of soldiers away with her wind blade and heard a gasp from Lena's direciton..... The girl had been hit.... And Mia knew it was because she hadn't been fast enough or strong enough.... She made a mental note to redouble her training the moment this was over.

A familiar face leaping over a crate caused Mia's attention to shift, if only for a second, away from the oncoming soldiers and towards the dark haired man.... She recognized him, although she didn't know his name.... And was rather impressed with how well he fought despite being wounded.... That said, the situation still wasn't in their favor. He was still recovering from old wounds, Lena was recovering from a new one, and Mia herself was getting low on stamina. At the rate they were going they wouldn't last much longer.

Upon the dark haired man's suggestion to regroup with the others, Mia's smile brightened. "Ya know, you remind me of a guy from my world!" She said, defending Lena as they moved deeper into the city, "... Except he was pretty grumpy ya know...." Always being lost in his books hadn't made Soren develop great Social skills.... But it made him really smart... And this guy seemed like a deep thinker too.... Which was good. That meant she could concentrate on the fighting and let him do the planning.

Chince could see that Clara did not want her help, nor knew where she was going. After a quick debate of whether she should follow, or go her own way, she decided on the latter, running down yet another side street, leaving her as quickly as she had found her. It wasn't long til she popped out of an alley in front of Mia, Lena, and Ziaram, breaking her own fall on the three soldiers she had jumped/bowled onto. She pulled the sword out of ones back, got up and started to run though at a slightly slower pace so the others could run with her, now that they had a window of escape.

"Hello Mia, arm guy, and Cleric." She said, adrenaline fixing her translation. She asked out loud, specifying Ziaram, "You suggested this plan... do you have any idea where we should meet up at?" She had an idea to minimize further encounters since they would be on the run indefinitely.

Cyric Adair

PostPosted: Tue Jun 21, 2011 8:55 pm

Without knowing I'm alone underneath this moonlight
I've got a feeling that fragile things are being moved far off
By the power of always believing you'll be near me

I called out only your name

Inside this light...
On nights where it's like I can't catch hold of anything
There isn't a day I don't think about it

-Cyric-

"Your Majesty!"

Cyric looked up and turned around to the messenger that had suddenly approached him. The tone of his voice did not assure the King that things were well, at all. "What is it? Report" Cyric demanded, rolling up the map in his hands.

"Horatio has not returned and the gates have been closed off!"

The silver knight froze for a split second before he grabbed his telescope from Ronan. From the sights he could see, the messenger was right. This did not bode well and surely it did not mean any good. Cyric lowered the scope, trying to think fast on what he could do from the outside. The walls..the gates....something..then it hit him. He turned around and called for Tanya and Cecil. Once they were summoned, Cyric gave orders.

"Horatio is trapped in the city with no way out. Find a way in, destroy the walls, tear down the gate. I don't care how you do it, just do it!" His voice was strong, much more than it was when he was just a mere Captain. Learania's volunteers were in there as well. There was no way he was going to let them die, not here, not now. The two leaders left and Cyric returned his sight on Arajudia. Heavens above that they were safe if not dead. He hadn't thought of bringing any pegaus knights with him otherwise, getting everyone out and to safety wouldn't be a problem. However, they were in Caterina's care.

"You there" Cyric called, pointing to the messengers. "Send a message out to Rath and Songhua. Inform them about our situation here at Arajudia" With that, the messenger departed in a hurry.

Attacking the gate head on would probably be a stupid idea, and most likely no weapons could deal any damage. Not even Tanya's famous fire magic could do the trick. It'd take years just to burn a hole through a door that thick. "Cecil, I'm going to take my squad and look for another way in. There are two other gates just like this, but we can't break them down with just these weapons." With the two in agreement, Tanya started her way around.

___________

I've been searching for the future forever.
I've been searching for the future with you

You quietly gazed at me

Call out my name underneath this moonlight
I promise I'll go see you, no matter where
To your side

As Clara ran, an arrow suddenly shot down in front of her. The archer who shot it was on the roof of a building ahead of her. From the same building, another archer ran out and aimed at her. She would be better going back the way she had come, especially since an ally was back that way. The myrmidon was very capable of dodging an arrow and dealing with the archer ahead of her, but that made her prime bait for the sharpshooter on the roof, not to mention what other surprises she could not yet see.

Elsewhere, Horatio and Annis were facing their own foes. The archers on the roofs weren't having any luck getting a good shot on bird girl, she was too smart to expose her wings even to use as a propelling aid in ground fighting. The warrior's hammer was powerful and crippling to the soldiers. It was capable of knocking several of them back at once. They were, however, outnumbered and in being outnumbered, they had to constantly keep moving to keep from being overwhelmed. A group of soldiers charged at them as an archer on the ground fired.

However, as it happened, around the next corner from Annis and Horatio, were the collected Chince, Ziaram, mia and Lena.

Clara had to stop suddenly to avoid the arrow that ending up landing right in front of her. She took a quick look around. There were archers everywhere. She backed up She had two choices, go back or run through. Running back would me she would be caught, but going forward risked getting an arrow through her. Her decision was clear.

Clara took a few more steps back before charging ahead and slashing those that stood ahead of her faster than what she was going before. It really wasn't the smartest idea in the world, but Clara wasn't going to surrender. If she got injured so be it. If she was killed so be it. She was going to go down fighting.
