AHHH. Was Riley's immediate response to Jericho's cry. She dipped down under the covers for a moment as if that would help with the stinging pain of the sound ripping through her mind, before sliding back up with a glare. She didn't expect that loud of a response, and snatched the brains up out of his hand as payment for the pain he'd caused.

Well, I'm going to eat this while you two continue to kiss and make up. She slid a tentacle into the platter, poking at the jellied brains. And I suggest we put this entire business behind us until the next time one of us decides to do something stupid.

"I agree... and oh. Oh dear." Malodore looked down at the side of the bed, where it had dropped the ice and the towel. They had melted slightly, but there was enough left to do Riley some good. As she ate, it gently lifted the ice to the back of her head, using utmost care. "Does that feel a little better?"

Then it gave Jericho a sidelong, ever so slightly wicked glance. "That would explain the hallucination I saw on the island, though, would it not? That unicorn was awfully fond of you."

"Sorry..." he said to Riley before focusing on Malodore, narrowing his eyes in the process.

"We. Do. Not. Consort. With. Unicorns," Jericho said in a warning-like tone. He went on and crossed his arms as well, "They smell funny."

Well that wasn't really true. He never met a unicorn.

Riley lifted her head for the ice, and then rested down upon it. The pain seared through her, and she dropped the plate - luckily it merely dropped onto the bed, with little spillage. Her eyes rolled back behind her head, and she quickly shut herself off to both if only to keep the sounds of grief that she knew would accidentally emit from her, to herself.

As it was, she wasn't going to move for a while. Putting ice on an older swollen area, especially one near her most sensitive of spots (the brain, you pervs), was taking it's toll.

She blacked out. It was a good thing they were occupied with their interesting conversation, she thought, even as the word faded to black.

Wouldn't want to bore them with her unconsciousness, and all.

Malodore winced as Riley lost consciousness. "You really... really didn't want her to do that, did you?" the plague doctor said, somewhat impressed despite itself at just how thoroughly Jericho had smacked Riley down. Given the consequences if the dragon hadn't done so...

It watched Riley's face for a long moment; then its backblades slowly drooped, clanging dissonantly against each other. "I'm afraid," it said, quietly.

"No... I did not," Jericho said while staring at Riley's unconscious form, "She insisted that things wouldn't be different but..."

The dragon shook his head, not really wanting to think too hard on things. His gaze soon shifted up towards the Plague doctor as he heard its words, however. After staring at Mal for some time, he looked back at the Mindflayer and let out a sigh.

"To be honest... I kinda am too. I felt like we almost lost her.."

"It frightens me to think that... everything could be gone so quickly. Just like that, without me even knowing... merde!" Malodore swore, its free hand clenching into a fist. "If it hadn't been for you, I could have arrived today and found her - her - gone. Just like that."

Its shoulders shook slightly.

Jericho shook his head again at the thought of it all. It would have definitely hurt Mal to suddenly be dropped with that.

"It's.. better to not think about that..." he murmured, "But we do need to think about how to help her.. cope with everything. The fact that she has these feelings scare her you could say and.. she doesn't know how to deal with them."

It was much easier said than done.

"And it would have been my fault... and I wouldn't have known. Or understood. I don't remember thinking the thought that hurt her so." Its gaze flitted back to Riley's face. "I never knew something like that was - could be - an option. I suppose I shouldn't be so surprised..." So hurt, was the echo it did not speak aloud.

"I don't know what to do," it confessed. "I know how to heal the body... not the heart. But I can't let her go. I won't. If I had been in your shoes, I would have done the same thing you did. Though I probably would have lost." Its beak opened ever so slightly, in an approximation of a wry, weary smile. "Physical combat is not my strong suit."

Still unconscious, though somewhat less so with each passing moment, Riley shifted to one side, and her arm fell loose against Malodore before she stilled once more. The ice slid slightly off her head, tilting so a few pieces slid down her neck.

Seeing Riley move, Jericho glanced to her, but it seemed she was out for a little longer.

"I don't really know what to do either.. but like you I can't just give her up. I don't think... she quite realizes how it'd feel on our end for it to happen," he said, "I'd say maybe we can try to see how she'd feel.. hypothetically if one of us could do something like that and she couldn't. But that doesn't really help with how she can really... handle emotions."

"You sure there isn't some sort of science to feelings at all?"
PostPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 8:24 pm

Malodore shrugged, moving to catch the ice chunks with its free hand. "I am sure there is, but it isn't one I'm familiar with. It seems... strange, to me, that such distance would be considered valuable. Surely there is more strength in understanding than in distance, over the long term?" It tilted its head to one side, still watching Riley's face carefully... fondly.

It's gaze had fallen on her face at an opportune time, as it was the moment her eyes slit open slightly. She blinked, several times, before they crinkled just slightly at the corners. She liked waking up to that.

Turning back so she was lying on her back again, the ice pressed against her head, and she cringed. Ahh.. what happened? Did I miss anything? She asked, though her voice seethed with pain, as if there was a swirl of - ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow - coating her every word.

"You can't lose what you don't have. If you have no friends or loved ones, you don't have to worry about anyone but yourself," Jericho said. It wasn't something he went by, but he understood the concept of why someone might want to remain distant, "There'd also be less for enemies to target."

Hearing Riley's voice, he looked over at her to see that she had come around.

"You.. blacked out," he said, not really knowing the full reason for it.

"Ah - take care, mia cara," Malodore said, quietly. "How does your skull feel?" Even though she had told it about mindflayers' thick skulls before, it still worried. "Perhaps we should speak to Cricket..."

Even as it focused on Riley, though, it reached out one hand - searching for Jericho's.
