"I know, I'm sorry." Hadrian smiled a bit meekly, "I sort of tried to make it a habit, or I'll always forget."
He tilted his head slightly to the side, "But...you're right, really. I don't suppose it matters if I have to explain it sometimes."

"You're very patient. You don't mind explaining things." Galatea nodded and her voice rang with the same certainty as when she declared her Captain to be the strongest or best or smartest. Hadrian had officially, unspokenly, been inducted into her world-view as important and valid. Not to mention helpful. She smiled faintly. "You explain things to me, after all. No matter how silly the question might be."

Hadrian was definitely not used to being called patient. And frankly being looked up to by anyone was a bit new to him as well. He had been taken aback when Burgundia had proclaimed that he should go out and teach, but the way Galatea put it was alot less...odd.
"Thanks." He smiled a little behind the strand of his hair that had fallen across his face when he looked down, "I don't really think a question can be silly if you really want to know the answer."

"And why would you ask a question unless you wanted to know the answer?" Galatea agreed quietly. "Life is based on questions and answers and some questions don't have answers but that doesn't mean they shouldn't." She paused, untangled her fingers to shift and lock her hands behind her back, chin lifting a bit, and she smiled a bit. "The Captain says there is no problem without a solution. Not really. If you work at something, you will find your way through. If it's important."

"That sounds like a good way to think about things." Hadrian admitted, tucking his hair back behind his ear, leaving his face open and unshielded again.
I took him a minute to figure out the 'questions don't have answers but that doesn't mean they shouldn't' bit. But when he did, it seemed to make pretty good sense.

She nodded, sure in the answer to this statement. "The Captain knows many things. She is the cleverest person I know."

Not that Galatea knew that many people but it was clear to Hadrian that, even if she did know more people, Captain Rabik would top the list.

"Some day I won't have to ask quite so many questions, of course," she added. "But then, hopefully, I can answer questions instead. If people ask me things, that is." There was a pause and then she tilted her head a bit, watching her friend. "Hadrian? What is it like being you?"

Hadrian was hoping that the Captain took her resposibility as Galatea's 'most important person in the world' seriously. It was just that whenever Galatea talked about Hadrian and his 'mom' she sounded a little wistful - and he hoped her adoration of Captain Rabik wasn't totally one sided.

Her question took him totally off guard. He blinked and his brow furrowed as he considered it.
"I don't know." He said, then grinned a crooked little grin, "Well I mean of course I know, its just that I never thought about describing it. Let me think..."
Which he did, you could tell his was thinking because it was written all over his face, like most everything else that went on in his head. He nibbled on his lower lip, and his brows drew together a little.
"Warm." He said after a bit, a little absently. "Definitely warm. But other things too."
It was clear he was still thinking about it.

Galatea remained silent, waiting as patient as stone for him to continue thinking. It was important to her to get this answer. It would help her know better what he liked and didn't like. Quietly, she moved to squat beside him, one hand on the matchbox desk for stability and she watched him.

"Its kind of a hard question." He admitted tilting his head to the side as he though, "I don't think about what its like to be me, I just do it."
He gestured helplessly with his hands.
"Bright, I guess. And exciting, most of the time. Alot of going and doing things, not as much sitting and thinking about them. Uhm...being me involves alot of going places. And for awhile it was a little bit lonely I guess. But mostly...interesting and fun. I think."

Galatea nodded slowly, absorbing everything. Warm and bright and interesting sounded perfectly right. Lonely, though? Carefully, she moved her hand from the desk to briefly touch his knee, then drew back and set both hands on her own knees, chin very nearly on top of them. "I hope you aren't lonely any more," she murmured. "You shouldn't be. There are so many other feien around." Her head tilted slightly and her cheek touched her hands; a yoga master would have swooned at her balance and control. "Miss Ruby Soho is very nice. You would never be lonely with her. Or Mr. Aleric. Or Mr. Silva. Or... If you are lonely or bored, you are always welcome to call on me. I'm not as fun as Miss Soho or interesting as Mr. Aleric and Mr. Silva but I would try."

"Oh! Oh no...I didn't mean..." And then he really did blush, because he had been talking while he was thinking, without really considering what precisly he was saying.
"I mean, thank you...I'm not, right now." He stopped to take a breath and stop half explaining. "I left, a while ago, and went alot of places by myself. And, it was exciting and interesting and really very amazing. But it got a little lonely."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 06, 2006 7:10 pm

"Oh." Galatea frowned a bit, confused as to why he seemed so flustered suddenly and why he was blushing. Quickly, she reviewed what she had said to him and decided that he was just embarrassed to have admitted to loneliness. She could understand that. Admitting to any weaker emotion was always unnerving.

She smiled a bit to reassure him that she didn't mind at all and still thought him strong despite any prior loneliness. "If you travel again, you should take someone with you. You would not get lonely then and you would have someone to take care of you."

The fire feien smiled back, relieved that she hadn't thought he meant that she wasn't any fun to be around. He hadn't actually realised, until he was trying to hard to descibe 'what it was like to be him', that he'd felt like that since he got back. Being lonely while travelling wasn't so bad, it happened now and then but you were always on your way something - doing something.

"I would like that, next time. The first time, going by myself was sort of the point."

Really, he thought, it was that when he got back it had felt very much like everything had changed, and he didn't know anyone. Coming home to find out that most of your old friends were gone, that the town had change, and there had been some sort of military coup in your local government.

"Oh." Now that made more sense to her and the smile widened and she nodded. "You went alone because you were trying to train yourself to be stronger. I see. It is why the Captain likes to run alone and only allows me to join her for the first half mile."

He almost started to protest, but then he realised that despite the odd way she had put it, she was basically right. No one he had grown up around had ever put things in terms of being strong of being weak, it was a bit of a new way to look at things for him.
"Yeah, I suppose. And I just wanted to see things. I learned most of the magic I know while I was travelling too."
