Her eyes widened as the overloaded islands fell with a shudder, taking two of the other competitors with them. What had been just a game now seemed more real than ever, with real stakes and real consequences. Wondering what would wait at the bottom of the chasm-- the hooded figure had said they weren't truly dead, not yet, right?-- she leapt forward.

At the first step, she found herself dangerously close to the edge of the next island, which was further than she had expected after the previously adjacent one had fallen, and wavered on the edge. For a moment, she thought she had regained her balance-- then Delta 6 found herself falling into the chasm below.
She almost screamed as she fell, but choked it back so it came out a muffled shriek.

I don't want to die. As she fell, the darkness in the earth overtook her sight until the misty sky was a thin line in the air above her.

(( Alright, a quick early-round rule change.

I think we've just found the biggest flaw of the game, and that's waiting for a post order that may not be the order that people are actually online or offline. In order for this not to drag on for days, I will be removing the post order.

You still only get one 'turn' per round, with a GM post at the end to address any surprise issues or island failures, like last time. Exceptions are made for an immediate second post in the case of a shortcut, or if the second or third (or fourth O_O etc ) person landing on an island wants to try and push someone off as they land.

Pushing someone off the island you are both on counts instead of a move. But it also has no risk of you falling, like the push-while-landing does.

Any questions, please PM me or post in brackets during your post.

As the post order is being removed, I will redo the maps with peoples' designated team/number combo. Hopefully that will make it less confusing to read, as well.

Zeta One was suddenly very happy she had taken the shortcut. She looked behind her as people fell off their rocks, or missed shortcuts all together. Perhaps that was a good sign.

Perhaps. She stood, making sure she wasn't going to fall off, and moved forward two more rocks. With that, she firmly planted her butt back on the ground, and turned, wanting to see who would move next.

She had a safe lead, though part of her wasn't truly in it for the pendant. It was just a nice incentive. It was a test for herself, really, that she could do this without becoming a sniveling mess of tears and snot.

The graveness of the game became apparent, in a deadly manner. Z12 saw people fall to their supposed deaths, their screams ringing in his ears. Those screams, he felt, would haunt him just as terribly as the sounds of the people he had seen die prior...
And now, his only safe route was gone. He had to jump...

"Oh... oh boy.." He breathed in one large breath, and lept.

It was a very close call.

Z12 just barely made it across, teetering before gaining his balance. His heart hurt so much he had been so frightened. He.. nearly fell.

He stood, shaking, trying to calm himself down for a moment.

It was almost exhilarating, to jump from floating island to floating island. It was almost exhilarating, up until the moment that he fell. Theta-two forget herself in a moment, her mouth opening into a strangled yell. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion, she thought in the caverns of her mind. She could feel every emotion splintering inside of her, every ache and shift in her body, and the way that the darkness swallowed Zeta-seven before she could even whisper goodbye. It felt as though every second was an hour and every minute was a day, and she couldn't quite understand the hurt in her chest, or the way that it grew cold too quickly to be considered normal. It was the minute flash of agony in her bones, watching another person die. But then... it shifted and gave way into something else. It felt like her blood was being pumped with ice, as if everything had frozen over but there was a wildfire raging within. This is what I had to expect, A part of her thought, as though mechanically clicking to life, this is part of the games, the idea of loss and death. But I have to... From behind the mask, all warmth seemed to drain from her eyes.

I have to be indifferent.

Or else she would never win. She would never survive. She would never protect Bones and Thyme the way she had to, if she wasn't indifferent to it. To death. If she hesitated, if she faltered, in killing or watching others be killed, she would be the next to go. And she couldn't let that happen. Staring into the abyss of the chasm, the maw that had swallowed three whole now, she felt a click in her brain, as though she were still learning, and learning fast. She felt her emotions drain, her heart sink into a dull beat. Her body seemed to move mechanically, without any hesitation. She would not let this affect her. She would not be a sheep, waiting for death. Her feet left the island, and she moved as quickly as she could, Kirk's words heavy in the back of her mind, locked away from the cold, ruthless pain in her bones.

It was a risky move, to take the shortcut across, two ledges down. Her feet moved with dull thuds across the way, her form moving with an uncanny balance, as if she'd once been a tightrope ballerina in some other life. Her eyes behind the mask were wide and unblinking, unable to think, as instinct to survive took over. Her fists closed so tight that the only thing keeping her nails from biting into her skin was the armor she was trapped in, the girls balance teetered as she made it across the wider gap, heart pounding in her ears, though it felt as though every emotion tied to her, every hum of humanity in her gut tucked away behind the curtains. The memory of falling played back in her head like a badly filmed movie, black and white and mute of all sound.

But it didn't stop her from moving.

Her feet connected solidly with the next island, until she straightened her back and stared coldly across the chasm, to where the Reaper lay. She wanted to know what was under the cloak, she wanted to know why. But for now she needed to survive, and that was exactly what she was going to do.

The rest of the other players began to hop across the islands as well. Some of them were too fearful to leave their hobbling rocks, but others happily and bravely strode past Delta Twelve. He enviously eyed those who jumped past him. A part of Twelve felt tempted to join them, to continue moving forward, but he looked behind at Delta Six. To his chagrin, they had made it to different islands. He sighed.

The few islands that held a trio of players dangerously wobbled and Twelve nervously watched on, his worry growing even more when the hooded figure barked for them to leave the shaking islands. They all jumped, but not all of them made it to safety. He leaned over, watching as a pair of people tumbled into the darkness. Twelve shuddered as the abyss swallowed them whole. Dead or not, he did not want to fall from here.

He decided to jump to the next island, hoping that moving forward would keep his jitters maintained, but then Delta Six fell. “Six!” Twelve shrieked, falling to his knees and vainly peering into the hole. Dammit. What was he supposed to do now?! He didn't want to be forever alone! Twelve stared at the next island, which was farther than the usual.

At first he was hesitant, but then he stood up and jumped.

Unlike the previous hops, Twelve pumped more energy into this one. The distance was farther. He needed all the power he could muster. Boots pushed off the edge of the rock and he sailed across. It was a smooth, quick jump, as if Twelve had experience in jumping and athletics.

His feet landed on the ground and he stumbled forward a few steps, but Twelve managed to stop a few feet before the edge. He placed a gloved hand over his chest. He had made it. As he took slow, deep breaths to calm his panicking heart, Twelve stared down into the hole again. Six couldn’t be dead, right? There was the possibility she was still alive, right? He frowned behind his mask. The more he stared at the chasm, the more unconvinced he felt.

Bones had stopped, completely stared in awe at Kirk, Zeta Seven, as he plummeted into the dark abyss. There was no words to describe it, nothing in his mind could even fathom what he had just witnessed as the floating platforms plunged deep into the chasm with them... That last look, he could swear he could actually see his face as he fell. "Dammit, Jim." he said, pursing his lips as the cold words loomed on him. Desperately he searched for more he could say, more he could do and yet nothing came to him.... and yet...

He felt hollow.

His breathing slowed and he watched as the others began to move across the platforms again. Without Seven... Kirk... his teammate, his... captain? Twitching, his mind backed away from the fiction and back to reality. He wouldn't want him to quit now, no, he was a fighter and would want Bones to fight too. Bones blinked and took in a deep breath for composure, looking ahead to the large gap that lay in front of him.

Though he didn't know if he had died, there was a new burden resting on his shoulders. The burden of life, the burden to live as much as he could, perhaps mere minutes, but he had to continue. He inhaled and moved back to begin his momentum...

...then leaped forward onto the platform, landing with his knees bent to take the shock of the landing. He looked ahead at a larger gap and glanced down. Kirk... He shook his head and moved back again to jump once more. "Keep moving forward." He muttered.

He stumbled slightly but stood, catching up to his exasperated breath which squeezed out of his lungs with a small wheeze. That was a load off, but it didn't make him feel better as he scanned the scattered platforms. Spock was far off, he could see her nearing the prize. Pride was swelling in him to see her out in front, though he couldn't get ahead of himself.

They were all in peril still. Too much movement in a jump, having others land where you are, a slight wrong turn of the head... Any one thing could mean their... death? He wasn't even sure of that and swallowed, trying to get back into the game. "Gotta live." He put, simply.

The person who had grabbed Beta Five and leapt across the chasm, dragging him along, had fallen into the blackness.

Oops. Beta Five cringed, glancing down over the side of the island, feeling a small sense of guilt. He'd thanked him, at least, though he hadn't expected to be pulled across to the next wobbling island so...haphazardly.

This is turning out to be a very, er....bad game, I'm thinking, Beta Five mused to himself, his arms outstretched on either side in a messy attempt to keep himself balanced on the floating island. Now there was only one other person there with him, but he was still behind - very, very behind.

With a sigh, Beta Five stumbled towards the edge of the island again, peering down. No, he did not particularly want to fall off into the darkness. That would be bad - very, very bad.

He was really starting to think that these situations were just following him around. First he had been set upon by a giant talking horse thing that flamed. Then he had been gang-attacked back in that disastrous cornfield; that had been the time he had thought he had died, but apparently not (though the jury was still out on that; the reactions of the opposing squad had been enough to convince him otherwise). Now he was leaping across floating islands and attempting not to fall into a bottomless black pit.

Yeah. Things were not looking terribly great at the moment. Beta Five sighed.

Then leapt off the island towards the next.

He stood alone of his island, his knees slightly bent and shoulder width apart to keep his balance, his arms placed calmly at his side. He looked in front where others had already managed to jump to however one or two of the floating islands seemed rather crowded and even though the idea of pushing people of the islands crossed his mind he didn't want to risk losing his own balance and falling off into the darkness. He'd wait for now until they thinned out a bit, until more of them grew a little more confident than the others and jumped ahead then he'd take his lead and begin to jump, having been left with more room to maneuver. He turned to look back over his shoulder and spotted Eta Two, he tried to catch his eye to try and nod to his companion, they'd be aright, he'd try his best to see them through this.

He twisted round again to face forwards, though off to his right the floating island catch his attention, the gap was larger than the path in front that the others had taken but it was jumpable, albiet rather risky, he judged the distance and thought it best to avoid the risk while there was still much distance to cover, the words 'he who dares wins' floated into his conscious mind, but he pushed them aside whispering under his breath, 'slow and steady wins the race.'

He bided his time however the reaper soon catch his attention as they bellowed out over the chasm, 'Jump.' He instructed that the islands wouldn't hold the weight of three and he watched as panic began to erupt. People began to jump to different islands to escape the risk to plummeting down into the depths of the chasm however two fell to that fate and he watched indifferently as it happened. This was life and death, this was life and people died and more to the point it was less competition for that damned pendant which he hoped would ensure his own survival upon the seventh day but more importantly would hopefully provide him with the answers he wanted, why was he here and what was his name.

((Eta Three, is skipping the first shortcut and taking the second.))
