His first impression was indeed correct. Zeta Eight needed to have burned up in the last encounter. Alpha Eight would have happily danced on that grave now. Especially after being called out by the Zeta girl. He couldn't have said that was his greatest pet peeve since he honestly hadn't had time to really sort out his likes and dislikes since they had been thrown together. However, once again, he found himself being assaulted by her words. Words that cut deep and resounded not only within himself, but to the others as well. She couldn't keep that little slip up to herself could she? Nope, guess he would have to play this one off as well. She had quickly become the thorn in his side which he desperately wanted to remove and crush. He glared intently at her for a few moments before throwing together a collection of lies and excuses. Alpha Eight needed more time for these kind of delicate situations. Time he didn't have. Silence would be deadlier than a half-baked response.
"Technically, I focused on attacking the beast. Though to little avail; however, in the midst of the confusion, I can see how that may have slipped past you. Not to mention, my punches were next to useless. Haha"
Taking a few seconds, he tried to gather his thoughts before continuing. Time was still against him, but he hoped in taking a few more seconds, he could come up with something that wouldn't have him burned at the stake.
"I'm glad you brought that up. I choose not to heal anyone because I wasn't sure how things would play out. I didn't want to heal someone that was going to be killed a few minutes later. That would be wasting very precious time and resources."
There it was. Keep it up, he told himself. He could play this off. Alpha Eight just needed to pace himself and think it through. Yes, that was the key to survival. Just pace yourself. Those words rang out through his mind as he desperately tried to play off his own words.
"I can't heal everyone at once and since I was so shaken by the loss of two of my own team members, I really have to say that I lost my focus. I feel just terrible that you have seen this in such a detrimental way. I would be happy to heal any of you now that the smoke has cleared a bit. I take it that you would like to be stitched up first or do you have a list ready for me?"
Alpha Eight wasn't sure if his voice was shaking or really conveyed his alarm at being called out. The brief pauses were deadly to him and he didn't like the idea of being watched so closely. He was the one who was supposed to be keeping a watchful eye in the background. Alpha One's solem, short answer felt like the knife was slowly being turned after being inserted. He didn't care if the whole lot died, but that didn't mean he wasn't heavily reliant on them. With the tables turned, he felt incredibly uneasy, to a point where he wasn't even sure if his body was shaking. Damn nerves, betraying him at every turn. Now he needed to keep them all at bay with something a big more convincing.
"Well now, let's not be hasty. I recall everyone reacting differently to the deaths that occurred. Just because I didn't rush into the middle of the scene doesn't mean I didn't have my own personal reaction to them. I'll be the first to admit I froze up. Yes, I messed up there, but what was I to do? As far as I know, I haven't ever dealt with such a shock after being assaulted by a crazy monster. Besides, I'm happy to do some healing now that everyone has decided their own course of action."
Nerves caused his stomach to feel like it was being eaten from the inside out and the feeling of uneasiness shot through his body in jolts. He didn't want to be alone, not without some form of protection. He would die out there alone. Damn, he felt like he might vomit. Placing a hand over his stomach, he hoped to curb his body's reaction.

[A-Two is entering the thread!]
A-Two returned quickly, her breathing clearly audible through the gas mask; it sounded like she was short of breath. "Not... as fit as I thought," she said, taking a moment to stand there, drooping visibly as she took several deep breaths.
Then she stood up, squared her shoulders, and held out the map to A-One. "Take care of it, 'kay? There's only one unless we like, pillage another dude's tent, I think..." She gave Z-Eleven a sidelong glance as she approached.
He was probably a nerd.

A-One crossed his arms over his chest and listened to A-Eight's hurried, hasty excuses. He could give the man slack for being shaken by the violence, and he did seem willing now, but something was still bothering A-One.
I didn't want to heal someone that was going to be killed a few minutes later. That would be wasting very precious time and resources.
THAT was it. Healing himself, but considering healing someone else a waste? That didn't chime with the rest of his explanation. No. What he'd let slip with that comment was telling. A-One shook his head. "I think it would be a good idea for you to leave now," he said.
He turned to A-Two as she skidded back in, somewhat out of breath. "Good job," he said to her, pointedly ignoring A-Eight. "I'll keep it safe." He held the map carefully and studied it.

"Boss man said it was okay." Alpha Twelve walked up to Alpha Seven, her bag hooked to her waist through some awkward knotting. But the way she looked up towards A7-- not down at the ground, was a massive improvement in itself.
"I'm ready for your phoenix-chicken artwork!"
That was what it was, right? biggrin

Hooooly s**t. Was this guy for real? Did any of them look like they were kidding around here? Okay, scratch that - a few of them were singing showtunes. They could have totally looked like they were kidding around. BUT STILL.
A7 watched the scene unfold even as he carved out A12's helmet. It was half-asses, but only because he wasn't paying attention - and besides, it was the thought that counted. When he was done, he smacked her helmet with his heavy hand, sending her on her way. He fingered the knife carefully, still looking straight at A8. He didn't look like a threat.. but from what Z8 was saying, and A1 decided, there was no way in hell A7 was coming near him with this knife.
Unless he wanted it at his throat.
"Oi. I can tell it would be safer to hang around us for a while. But. You ain't gettin' s**t from me, says the boss. Your words, they're just words. It's your actions that spoke for you on the battlefield - and it'll be your actions that will speak for you later on, too. So good luck with that."
He grabbed Z3 roughly, now pretty much tired of this game. He barely scratched anything into his helmet, but it was enough. He was regretting it even as he did it. He took the sandstone after he'd reddened the marks, and looked at it in his hands.
His hand was as red as the stone, from all the rubbing. Red as blood. He stared at it for a second, and snapped.
Something was wrong. Really wrong. He fisted the dagger angrily, and shoved it back into A10's pack.
"You know what." He growled. "I don't know about you guys, but I need a walk."

Stress didn't mix well with Alpha Eight. His body seemed very ill-equipped to deal with such pressures. His stomach still felt uneasy, he couldn't seem to shake the sick feeling while also fighting his body's urge to shake or at least quiver. He stood there for a few seconds, contemplating. Alpha One didn't seemed swayed at all by his words. Alpha Eight was unsure of his next step. There didn't seem to be any easy out or a way to quickly dismiss the other members' concerns. He had truly hoped his role as the only healer would make him invaluable to the group. A position that gave him the power to continue on, untouchable. These dreams were quickly shattered as he now was faced with going it alone. Unarmed and a walking target. He knew now he would be at risk on his own. The encounter with the demon horse had proven his fists to be mostly useless with little gained by physical force. With reconciliation impossible, he hoped to leave on a positive key, least he be followed and disposed of.
"It seems you have misjudged me as someone who is without concern. I won't beg though and I doubt at this point that any amount of begging would change your minds. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. Haha, I wish you the best, truly."
He knew his excuse was pathetic and poorly put together. There wasn't a doubt that given more time, he could have woven a lie that wouldn't have shown his true intent. However, time was still against him. Alpha Eight was stuck with facing that fact he would now have to find another group. Another team to mislead until victory. Turning away, he made his way inland. Towards the thicket of mysterious fog.

Z4 had continued babbling excitedly as As A7 scratched into the back of his helmet- he BELONGED! He was one of the COOL KIDS and this, he seemed, was a very important survival trait. Yes, yes, things were certainly going well. And he had even found a singing partner! Wonderful! "Oh, er, someone mentioned healing?" He perked up, touching the mark with a gloved hand as the muscled bully drifted away from him. "I could use a bandage or two- oh." It seemed a bit of a tryst was going on, and he watched stupidly as the argument around Z8 settled, frowning further as he stalked away, "Er... is everything alright?"

A-One breathed a faint, relieved sigh. He'd half expected A-Eight to put up more resistance. Not having to deal with that was one thing off his back. After a moment, he looked to Z-Four. "Sorry," he said. "I don't think we can trust that guy. We're all hurt - we'll rest in a little while. For now, I think it'd be a good idea if we got moving." He nodded to A-Seven.
He didn't trust A-Eight not to come back with company, and he didn't trust the open landscape of the beach, and the group was large enough. He studied the map for a moment longer, then folded it carefully and tucked it into his pack. "Northeast," he said. "Towards the cornfields on the map. If nothing else, there should be some cover provided by the landscape. Let's get going, before anyone decides we're a nice bunch of sitting ducks."
He stretched his arms out, rolled his head on his neck, then turned to start northeast.

"Let's go," A-Two echoed, stretching as well; her knuckles cracked, and she winced at the sound. Ugh, she hated it when people did that... and now it was happening to her. Ugh, she was becoming a nerd.
Ugh.
... But she'd be alive, at least. Underneath the mask, her lips set in a grim line. Yes. She'd be alive. With her group. As it should be. They would be the survivors. The only survivors.
She turned after A-One and followed the leader.

A7 had already decided he was going to go for a walk. What he hadn't been expecting, was to hear his team leader decide that they were all going for a walk.
Well, that suited A7 just fine. He was just going to need a little space, but he'd stick close enough by.
Without looking at anyone in particular, he trudged off - a little gloomier than he had been after finding out A10 was alive. In fact, it almost seemed like the fog above him was darker than the rest of the world.

"Oh! Are we moving out, then? Right-oh! Here we go!" Z4 beamed, standing up straight and proud to be a pheonix to saunter after his new friends excitedly. This will certainly be an adventure, that was for sure!

A-Nine was fiddling with her boot laces when A-One announced that the group was heading out. That was fine with her, she was getting tired of sand everywhere anyway. Happily she followed along with the rest of the group.

A10 stayed clear of any drama surrounding A8; she hadn't seen much of him before she died, anyway- she had nothing to say.
Before she'd died. So strange, that thought. After he'd been told to leave, it seemed they were leaving as well, the whole group of them. Though she didn't know where they were going, she didn't bother asking. They were together, and that was all that mattered.
Quickening her step, she caught up with A7, then looked back at the rest, waving to them to follow as well.
A new adventure~ Exciting.

Everyone was on pins and needles from the not-so-polite encounter, setting a foreboding mood in the ir. Some more than others, the dark cloud loomed over them most.
Some lesser than others. A12's hands folded over her chest, watching other group members exit. Leaving for cornfields? Corn.. to eat? Could they eat in these masks? .. Probably not, A-12 decided with gloom.
She was turning over a new leaf. She was going to be just like Z8! She was going to be good enough to approach the sexyheroic reaper from last timeeeee.
So A-12 only lagged a little behind the group. Like some others taking the time to ponder alone or simply just to be alone, A-12 stood a little off from the group. The nervous beating from her chest had yet to subside from earlier, this time allowing for A-12 to calm down and plan for the future. Planning was necessary indeed.

They had a map, a group of people the leader seemed to trust and a direction to head. Things were looking up, at least a bit. It would be good to walk off the tension that had been building up.
A-Eleven stood, brushed a bit of sand off her legs, and followed the rest of the group away from the beach. Time to see more of the world.
