"Hu? Uhh... I don't know," Aulus frowned slightly, "hadn't made plans really other than getting... uhh... a change of scene." He couldn't really say 'off base' in the middle of a restaurant. "Well, I guess we could go find an arena or just a big open space and have a battle; Tortie and Zeus, right?" Tortie would be glad of a fight, and just to be out of her pokeball and off base. He still felt a bit bad for upsetting her, but only a bit; she really needed to learn to be less possessive of him...

Ah, and here was the bill. The damage wasn't as bad as he'd expected. Nodding slightly he took out his card to pay, tapping his pin code into the portable... whatever you called it. Card reader thing. It had been so long - or felt as though it had been so long - since he'd last used it he had to pause for a moment to call the number to mind. Life was different now. He still wasn't sure if he'd made the right choice. Maybe he'd feel more sure once his duties were more interesting.

"I hadn't either," she said with a shrug, popping the last bit of the bread stick into her mouth. Mmm, lunch had been delicious... She'd need to remember this place and come back again sometime. "A change of scenery is always good. I don't know of any arenas, but I'm fairly certain the park would be fine for battles." There was no reason that it wouldn't be. At his suggestion of the two pokemon before he paid, she nodded. "Yeah, I think they'll be a good match for each other," unless she had been horribly incorrect in her assumptions, but she didn't think so. "Zeus loves to battle."

After Aulus had finished paying and the overly-cheery waitress had left, Claire slid out of the booth and stretched a bit, humming lightly as she did so. "Thank you, by the way," she said as she headed towards the exit, not sure if she'd said it before or not. If she had, then too bad, he could hear it again. She pushed the door open and held it out behind her so he could follow, trying to remember where the park was. She knew its exact location from up in the air, but not from the streets. She was definitely more used to flying than driving.

"Hu?" Aulus looked at Claire with a bemused expression on his face for a few moments. "Oh," the confusion disappeared to be replaced by indifference, and the powerfully-built man shrugged slightly, "whatever. You're welcome. Like I said, it's payment for bringing me here... and for having taken me there." He'd get used to his new life, and he'd learn to like it. He'd better; there was no getting out of it now.

"Park sounds good," he went on, turning to head in the right direction, "seems to be a pretty popular place for battles. Might still be a few other people around looking for a fight, taking a late lunch or whatever... And the layabouts who don't have jobs, of course." The richest and poorest members of society, and of course students. As members of Team Rocket they should probably be paying attention to the first of those three groups but hell, he was on his afternoon off, he wasn't going to waste time tracking down a mark and stealing from them.

Payment, right. The fact the second half of his statement could be horribly misconstrued if taken out of context - which no one but the pair of them would know, so any passersby in the vicinity would no doubt think terrible, horrible, dirty thoughts - remained wholly unnoticed by the young woman. Instead, her mind wandered to the day she recruited him - how angry he'd been to see her again, and how quickly she'd turned those emotions around. It was almost comical. He was very wary though, and had weighed the pros and cons for quite a bit. She couldn't help but wonder if he was glad for making the decision, but that didn't matter at the moment. It could be a question to ask at a later date.

Oh yes, the park. Thankfully he seemed to know where it was, so she turned on the heels of her standard issue boots - she really needed to get a pair of her own that didn't scream 'I work in these' - and caught up to walk next to him. "I suppose it is, though I can't say I've battled there before," she admitted idly, purple eyes curiously scanning the scenery around them. It wasn't often she really stopped to appreciate things like this, she was usually much too busy hurrying towards whatever her destination was. Not today, however. "Oh yes, the ones who don't have jobs. They're either the busiest people around, or not busy in the slightest." Most poor people without jobs usually either lazed around and lived off government funding, or did as much work as possible - legal or otherwise. And then the more wealthy individuals that didn't need jobs.. Well, she wasn't quite sure what they did with their time. Maybe bought rare and exotic pokemon or battled them or did contests or something. Like her sister. Egh, her sister...

"I've not either," Aulus replied with another shrug, "but there's a first time for everything I guess... Well, not everything. You know what I mean." There had certainly been a first time for a lot of odd s**t recently though, well, not a lot of different things, just a couple of big things. Mostly just joining Team Rocket really. Why had he done it? He should just have swallowed his pride, turned away from Claire, and gone home to apologise... but life was going to be exciting once he got out of the red uniform. He'd be glad of it when he was out on missions... stealing pokemon from trainers that loved them and that they loved in return. s**t. Was there any way for him to only steal from ungrateful sods who had it coming? Probably not. Still, the pokemon would get over it in the end, and any he ended up owing he'd treat well.

"Yea," Aulus nodded vaguely, "busy trying to get a job or with other stuff, lazy, or student lazy. When I was a student I don't think I ever voluntarily got up before about ten thirty; nine-am lectures didn't have an ice-cube's chance up a growlithe's arse." As they turned a corner the park came into view; it didn't look too busy from here which was good, he and Claire shouldn't have too much trouble finding a spot to battle.

"I know," she replied with a chuckle, amused at the analogy. It had been quite a while since her school days, though more prominent in her memory at the word 'school' was the acting school she'd joined for.. how long had it been? Not long at all, but she was glad to be done with it. Sort of. Not really, but how she'd parted from it more than made up for leaving.

As they approached the park entrance, Claire pulled a pokeball from her belt, releasing a shiny-colored Pikachu. The lazy ball of chub yawned, peering up at his trainer with a look that would suggest he was less than pleased to be anywhere but in a comfortable bed. She ignored the look as she clipped the ball back to her belt, extending her fingers for him to climb up her arm. He happily obliged, much preferring a ride than walking himself, and as he quickly clambered up onto her shoulder with more grace than anyone would think a chubby Pikachu could have, she asked, "Want to battle?" It was a largely rhetorical question. He would battle whether he wanted to or not, though the latter usually was never the case. Zeus loved to battle. This was evident as he immediately perked up, quickly scanning the area for a potential opponent. Would they find someone? He wasn't going to battle that bird-brain, was he? Oh, the younger scar-guy was here, would he have a pokemon to battle? "Chuu," the electric mouse churred, ears twitching as he studied Aulus for a moment, waiting for any signs of a pokemon being released just in case he would offer an opponent.

As they entered the park Aulus reached into a pocket and took out Tortie's pokeball. When allowed out the dark type cast around at her surroundings with a tense air about her, but once she got her bearings she relaxed and stretched out her lanky form luxuriantly. Mmmmh. Grass. Air that was cool compared to the desert. While she might be happy with where she was, however, she still wasn't pleased with her trainer. That female human was still with him. Hu.

"Don't give me that, you," Aulus sighed as his pokemon pointedly turned her back on him. "If you sulk like that, I won't let you battle," he went on, "and I'm sure that's something you don't want."

At the mention of battle the patched pokemon perked up, turning to regard the electric rat that would probably be her opponent. He looked like an easy chubby target, a soft little ball of dough, but she could practically smell the electrical power stored up inside that round little body. It ought to be a good fight. Giving a faint huff that showed she still wasn't pleased with her human the Absol relented and moved to stand at his side; she could always make him suffer later on if he continued to ignore her.

As the multicolored Absol obviously turned her back to her trainer, Claire tried extremely hard not to smirk. It was blatantly obvious that the dark-type was not the least bit pleased with him. Part of that was more than likely due to the previous night, but that wasn't her fault. Well, not really, anyway. Whatever.

"Chu." She didn't look so tough, but then again the Pikachu had never been too good at comparing his power to other pokemon. One more than one occasion he'd refused to flee a battle in which he had no hope of winning for the sole reason he was too stubborn to do so. With a light snort, he hopped down from his trainer's shoulder and studied Tortie with narrowed green eyes, electricity crackling from his cheeks. He couldn't wait.. Oh, how he loved battles... He paused then to turn a questioning look at his owner, who offered him a mildly dismissive wave. "Go on," she said, which was all he needed. A wide smirk spread across his face as he bounded off several yards before stopping and quickly spinning to face his opponent.

"Well, no point hanging around," Aulus said with a slight grin and a nod to Tortie, "go on then." It had been a while since he'd managed to get a battle for her; she got more than she had before he'd joined TR over all, but over the last week or so he'd been lax and she hadn't even had one. Might as well make up for lost time. "Alright Tortie, start off with Swords Dance!"

It had been quite a while since Zeus' last battle as well, and he had been eager to have one for forever. Due to his eagerness - or perhaps his obnoxious nature - he didn't dare miss a beat. As soon as Aulus said his command to his own pokemon, the Pikachu acted. Better now when she was concentrating on a stat-increasing attack than when she was moving about. "Chuu!" The patched Absol would suddenly find a powerful Thunderbolt hurtling right towards her.

The powerful electric attack hit home without trouble, sending the slender dark type flying. She managed to land on her paws - just about - and as she regained her balance properly she showed her white fangs to the pikachu in a savage grin; this was fun!

"Okay Tortie," Aulus barked, his fists knotting with tension "now bite the little yellow sod!" He didn't want to lose this fight. He never wanted to lose a fight, but for some reason he really didn't want to lose this one. Maybe he was just sick of Claire's smugness, of how she always felt she had to be one step ahead, always had to be mysterious for no reason at all. She really was a damned exasperating woman now he thought about it.

Snarling with vicious glee Tortie launched herself at her opponent, opening her maw wide; she was ready to taste some blood!

Slender eyebrows rose a bit as Claire heard Aulus' tone and words. Some people got really worked up about battles though, even just practice ones that hardly even mattered. It wasn't like anything hinged on the outcome, after all.

One benefit - a very large, advantageous benefit - of being in a trainer battle was he could hear every command and therefore know exactly what his opponent would do. This gave him, in his opinion, the upper hand paw. Part of that upper paw was the fact Claire wasn't giving him orders as well, a tactic he was grateful for. An equally brutal smirk lighted his features - especially seeing how far his target had gone flying due to his attack - and his red cheeks crackled and sparked with pent-up electricity. His ears twitched once, twice, as he remained where he stood, ready to jump away in an instant. He very likely could have easily escaped the attack if he'd really felt like it, but this was much too fun. Plus, he had another idea in mind. It was a trick he'd learned - a nasty one, even if it was technically by the books - from his owner, of all things. So, when the Absol drew close, he didn't move as fast as he could have, especially with the advanced notice thanks to the scar-man, and allowed the dark-type to bite him. It hurt a lot more than he thought it would, but his cheeks were already sparking before her attack ever landed. It was sneaky, possibly underhanded underpawed, but he loved it. As sharp teeth sank into him he launched another electric attack at his opponent, taking obvious advantage of the close range, but instead of a Thunderbolt as he'd done last time, he opted this time for Thunder wave to hopefully incapacitate her.

The pure satisfaction of sinking her teeth into him was quickly tainted by that horrible, familiar cramping of her muscles. Little rat! Not waiting for an order from her trainer this time the dark type went in for another Bite attack, snarling in frustration as her back legs went rigid and refused to move; even if the disadvantage didn't make her miss, it would certainly leave her wide open to another onslaught from the Pikachu.

"Tortie!... Oh. Okay. Yea, fine, that works." His Absol wasn't much of a strategist when left to her own devices (or when just taking matters into her own paws) but he'd been planning a full onslaught anyway so it didn't matter that much he supposed.

Not too far away from the battle, a young man with a vivid fake tan and more prominent brand names on his clothes than you could shake a stick at sat down on a bench and opened up his designer bag. He appeared to be looking for something, not that Aulus or Tortie noticed his presence.

Zeus growled as the Absol's teeth unexpectedly sank into him a second time - at least it was his hip and not his middle or something - and his little mind raced for what to do next. Her teeth freaking hurt so he needed to get her off as quickly as possible. Despite the urge to Thunderbolt her again, he instead opted for Strength. He growled again, cheeks sparking before suddenly hurling a chubby fist at his opponent's head in an attempt to get her sharp pointy teeth away from him.

A curious scent wafted over to the Pikachu in the midst of battle. It seemed hauntingly familiar, though it wasn't very strong at all so he couldn't quite place exactly what it was.

"Zeus does that too sometimes," Claire said casually, watching the two battling pokemon. Getting bitten twice in the same spot must've hurt, and she wouldn't be at all surprised if the Pikachu started limping a bit afterwards. "I like letting him do what he wants because it teaches him to think for himself on what's best in a given situation. Even though he's a frustrating little menace, he's pretty smart." Despite talking to Aulus, she eventually trailed off in a thoughtful tone, brows furrowing as she considered the applications of such behavior. Raids and missions, definitely, and he willingly participated in pokemon theft..

Aulus winced as Tortie flew through the air and landed gracelessly in a nearby bush; despite knowing it was a lot easier to patch pokemon up than it was to patch people up he felt bad when he saw her get hurt. She still seemed to be determined, however, so he didn't call the fight off. "Tortie, use Bite again!... When you get out of there."

Easier said than done! Her muscles weren't working right, she was having trouble getting free of the tangle of branches. Growling to herself, the Absol struggled against the foliage and her paralysis; she was going to get that rat!

On the bench, the young man put his massive sunglasses on top of his head; it seemed they had been making it hard for him to see into his bag. His sacrifice of cool was very temporary, however; a moment later he took a large chocolate bar out of his bag and slipped the shades back on. Unwrapping the foil and he lounged back on the bench, his face turned more or less at Claire's butt. Smirking to himself he took a bite of the sweet rich treat, apparently enjoying the view.
