Wheezing Werewolf

What? She was laughing?! Static was clueless. Did she find him amusing? Or was the vixen laughing at his stupidity? He didn't have any more time to think it over, as a douse of water hit him. Static stayed still for a moment, unsure what to do. Then it was as if a switch had been flipped inside him.

Copying her, (because he hardly knew how to play this game) he splashed water all over Shani and it wasn't long before he too wore a similar grin. He had no idea why he was doing this. Funny thing was, he didn't care! He felt adrenalin and joy pumping through his veins, though not literally. Static chased after Shani, water spraying all over his legs. He didn't even care when he slipped in the mud, all he could do was laugh. Was this what life was like for Shani?

Giggling like she was a kit again, Shani joined in the splashing wars. At some point she decided the mere splashing wasn't enough, and simply launched herself at Static and sent them both tumbling into the stream. It would be impossible to tell who was more wet, and perhaps it was a good thing the water wasn't as cold as it first seemed.

It was actually a pleasant surprise to find out that not all of Static's instincts had been taken over by logic. She'd seen it happen, once or twice before, and it made the person into nothing more than a lifeless doll. If she could help save Static from a fate like that, it would be the best deed Shani had ever done in her life.

It took a bit of time before Static clamed down. The grin on his face seemed a permanent attachment, he wondered if he had ever smiled this much. He was breathing hard and his heart was pumping away madly. He tried to calm it down and recover.

Then he noticed how he and Shani were still tangled up, and all that effort was undone. In fact, he felt as if he might have a heart attack. Turning bright red he stood up and shook himself off, spattering his companion with water in the process. He should do something...but what? Static was out of his comfort zone. Why was it that everytime he was near her his heart sped up?

"Do you do this all the time?" he asked, hoping to distract himself from his emotional pandemonium.

Shani gave voice to a breathless laugh. "Well it's not nearly so fun when the weather is cold," she said, taking Static's question at something of a face value. "So not really." Then she grinned. "Shame winter is over, I could have showed you a couple different ways to have reckless fun in the cold. Ah well. This was but one example, and I think I can manage to corrupt you out of the mental realm and into the physical in a variety of warm-weather ways."

Shani giggled, realizing that she was probably babbling and that Static might be having a hard time following. Maybe once they got to know each other a lot better, he'd understand her without having to think about it. Which, in and of itself, was another fun yet productive way to tease/corrupt the male.

" It is a shame" He replied to Shani's comment about winter. "I have always preffered the cold. But I guess when spring is at it's peak I will be able to blend in better.". Static chuckled, now fully recovered from that...whatever it was.

Corruption. Static was amused at the thought. In one perspective, yes, the vixen probably was corrupting him, her laughs melting away the walls of logic he had build around himself. But in another perspective, Static had never wanted to be completely cut off from his emotions. Living in a world without emotions or flaws caused one to stagnate... Perhaps he could find a middle ground?

"Corruption? Do your worst! But first i would like to know more about my corruptor." Talking about oneself was always boring to Static, that and he was just maybe a tiny bit interested in his companion's life. That was an understatement, he was deifinitely intrigued.

Shani blinked, mildly surprised. In her experience she knew that most foxes preferred to talk about themselves. It didn't even have to be out of vanity. You just knew yourself well, your interests were all compatible with yourself, and you usually found yourself to be an interesting person. It all combined together to make talking about oneself pretty easy. Unless you had a traumatic past or something like that, which Shani didn't.

"Well, there's not a whole lot to tell," she started. "I was born pretty far up north. I mean way far up, so far that I could have been raised by penguins and polar bears." She took a moment to titter at that mental image, then continued. "Never knew my parents. We had a lot of trappers up in that area, though. They either wanted my kind for labor, since we can move in show fairly well, to sell for exotic pets, or, I assume if the weather gets bad enough, to eat."

Shani shrugged at the end. It might seem a tad barbaric to others, but she knew how harsh the north could be. Survival pushed creatures to do many things that seemed horrible. "I stayed up there for a bit, but it was such a pain avoiding humans that I moved down south. Thankfully the humans that only get snow in the winter are a lot easier to deal with. And so, here I am," she finished, perhaps a bit anticlimactically.

" I would not like to see you captured, or eaten" Was it...anger he felt? Static had no idea why. He knew how cruel the world could be, had heard stories that would give kits nightmares. He accepted it, the world was how it was and this one was a 'survival of the fittest' type. So if he was so matter-of-fact and accepting of how things just were sometimes...why was he mad?

Static was eager to fully investigate and explore fun but this new topic, as some foxes might say, really put a dampener on things. He no longer...felt like having fun, as much as he wanted to. Static was sure it would go away soon. "So what methods of having fun do you suggest we try first?" It wasn't that he was being rude or anything, Static just didn't see the point in standing around moping or reflecting, the past was the past.

Shani tilted her head, thinking. "Well there are some games that are more challenging and fun when you have more people. Hide-and-seek, and tag. You can play tag with two people, but usually one is always faster and it becomes chase instead of tag." Shani gave Static a cheeky grin, implying she would be the one leading him in circles. Her kind were bred for running, it stood to reason.

"Swimming and splashing we kinda already did. There's that really funny one of digging a hole and burying a fox up to his neck, but it's easier if the ground is softer than it is here. Climbing up trees to get fruit or something else tasty. Finding really pretty views to admire, usually clouds or sunrises and sets. I'm sure there are a ton of others too, once I have time to really think on it."

Shani nodded in a matter-of-fact way. "That's the thing about fun, there aren't rules. You don't need pre-determined games, you can make stuff up."

"Oh..." Static said, thinking. What was a good game? Honestly, he didn't have a clue. Maybe he could use his logic to help. Think of ways that incorporated exercise, thinking and competitiveness. What about a game that helped with the whole finding-of-spring thing?

"How about we have a little competition? Whoever can find the most flowers. If we only take a petal from each one we find, we won't be doing too much damage to the new growth." Static thought it over. Only taking one petal from a flower meant that one could take several and cheat. "Oh, and they have to be different types of flower, which prevents cheating. And the winner gets...ahh...um, what do you think the prize should be?" he asked. He wasn't even sure his idea was a good one, but most of the foxes he had met had enjoyed competing with each other, so that had to count for something

((late reply, sorry. Nec has been a very busy bee lately))

Shani considered the game Static had proposed. It seemed like it might work. Of course there was the chance someone could come across a flower meadow, which would be an unfair advantage, but she was fairly certain this early in the spring season that only a pawful of varieties would be flowering right now.

"Sounds good," she enthused. "Let's say winner decides the prize, so while we hunt for flowers we can think about what we'd want to win the most." Shani blinked and looked to Static to see what he thought of her proposal.

"Alright. Lets meet back at this place in a couple of hours" He said, not really sure what he wanted as a prize, but he had time to think about it at least. Static took off, eyes searching the forest

((short reply is suuuper short, but the time skip honour is all yours! i hope 1 to 30 is a likely range XP))

Shani nodded and took off.

A couple hours later she returned, quite disgruntled. It seemed as though the path her had picked was completely barren of any signs of spring. All she'd found were a couple of snow-blooming flowers on their last legs. Ah well, that was the price she paid for trying new areas. She plopped down on her butt and wondered how Static had fared.

Static padded towards Shani, cheeks bloated. He couldn't think of any other way to carry his petals but in his mouth. A bit self conscious and unsure if the vixen would be apalled, he turned his back to her and emptied his mouth of the petals. He counted 23 in total. "I have collected 23, how have you done Shani?" he said. It was just his luck that he had come across an area with quite a few flowers. Most of them were new and just flowering, which was a good sign that this spring would have lots of flowers.

Shani couldn't answer Static's question; if she opened her mouth, she would lose the control she was clinging so hard to and would just crack up. Then she'd have had to assure Static that she wasn't exactly laughing at him, but more like the moment itself was funny.

But really, Shani would dare who had spoken to Static before to take a look at him now and not laugh! If there was any way for a fox to look more like a chipmunk, Shani had yet to see it.

Static sat down and gave Shani a puzzled look. "What? Is thier something wrong?" He got up again and began inspecting her for any sign of injury, lifting her paws up to see if their was some sort of cut or bruise. Then he checked for illness, feeling her forehead for fever, looking inside her ears and waving a paw in front of her face. "You seem ok, no sign of injury or illness that i can tell. Have you eaten something?" Maybe she had, it could have been some sort of plant that was causing this. "I need to check the inside of your mouth to be thorough, please open it wide."
