Ever made a noise and just watched Tony, still smiling helplessly to himself. The fact of the matter was that Ever was pretty smashed himself, as skinny as he was, and as little as he'd eaten today. He eased out of his crouch to kneel in front of Tony, scratching at one knee, and started to say something -- which he quickly aborted. Hitting overtly on the boss was a bad plan.
It took him three tries to censor himself properly. "We should do this again, maybe. At some point."

Tony watched him hazily, grinning ear to ear. He made a face as Ever failed to say something, then again, before something finally came out of the younger man's mouth.
"Get drunk at our place of work? Oh yes, this should definitely be a regular thing. Though, perhaps we could swing it on my day off. I bet tomorrow's going to suck."
He laughed at that, taking a drink from his cup, but it was now empty again. He looked at it mournfully for a moment, then shrugged and his grin was back.
"Though, it is good to have someone to slack off with, you know? I'm severely lacking on the friend front, particularly... nearer... to my age than, say, my son. Though, I guess you're still closer to his age than mine. Eh, whatever, as long as you can legally drink, that makes you an adult friend, and not a teenager. And hey, I'm really glad you are, you know? It's good to know we can just relax and it's... relaxing."

"Could haul you out, too, if you wanted." He shifted a little tucking his feet under him and leaning back, his eyes still definitely on Tony. Flushed and a little rumpled, the older man was much too tempting -- so Ever focused on the empty cup, reaching out to snag it out of Tony's grasp and peer down into it.
"You want some water, maybe, Tony?" Somewhere between teasing and nudging, Ever did this often enough to know that yes, Tony definitely wanted water. Even if he didn't realize it. "I can go get some...another piece of pizza, too."

Tony made a pouting face when Ever took his cup from him. He tilted his head, offering a coy smile.
"I'd like another drink," he said, as politely as he could manage at the moment. Now he knew that Ever was gay, or at least had the general idea of 'bi curious' in his head in explanation for the moment before, and it seemed drunk!Tony wasn't above using that to his advantage. At least when it came to getting a drink.
Of course, in reality, he would have done that to just about anyone who was taking his cup away when he was in need of more alcohol.
He kept the innocent, helpless act up, tilting his head to the side and letting his warm, green eyes do the work. When he was younger, he could have gotten away with murder with how often he used his 'charms' to his advantage. Now, some of that deviousness was just floating back.

"...cruel man, Tony." It was almost a whimper, touched with laughter still, Ever hesitating halfway to his feet with both cups in his hands. In the moment, he chugged the rest of his own drink and shoved himself up to stand in a rush, before he did something really, really stupid.
"I'll pour more drinks and water. And more pizza." A little bit of everything: he wasn't a very responsible adult. He eased back a slow step to refill the glasses, stil moving in a wobbly sort of way. Water and alcohol for him; water and alcohol for Tony; and he nudged the box down onto the ground with a thud so that they could get it from there.
It was an effort to sink back into a crouch and then to sit on the ground, holding out two glasses for Tony.

Tony laughed at the assertion that he was cruel. He either didn't understand what Ever meant and was laughing anyway, or did understand and was laughing justly. Either way, he laughed and grinned and made nothing clear. To him, though, Ever was just complaining about the classic use of Puppy Dog eyes, which was often the case.
He watched as Ever gave in and got up.
"Water? You're a bit of a wuss," He laughed. Of course, he needed water, and would regret it roundly if he talked Ever out of it, but drunken pride was a devilish thing sometimes. He looked at the pizza, then moved to get a slice, much cooled off now but still good for him. Better tasting, maybe, now that he was feeling fuzzy and didn't know better.
"Much obliged," he said, taking both cups, though he put the water down and focused on the alcohol. He was getting very languid, and would likely decide on taking a nap. Or doing something reckless like scaling the library to get his blood going again. Either way.

Ever settled in front of him with knees on his elbows and both hands full: one with his booze, one with his water, and he at least was experienced enough in this to gulp at the water before anything else. His eyes still on Tony, trying to read him. Mixed signals were just mean.
"You want a cigarette, too?" It was mocking, but with a hopeful edge behind it. If Tony lit up in the library, that would mean that Ever could too, without getting in trouble.

Tony watched him, daringly. He was being stupid, but it seemed to be on purpose. Or maybe it wasn't. He wasn't the most coherent man when he was drunk, and that had been proven many, many times before. He had a long, less than proud history of proving himself a completely idiotic drunk.
But at least he was happy: he never got violent or emo when he imbibed one too many.
"Cigarette? I haven't had one in ages. Have I? No, I don't think I have. Nate does, he smokes in what used to be my bedroom, until he stole it. Brat. Sure, cigarette, why not?" He laughed, shaking his head. He had no idea Ever was the master of bumming cigarettes off of people, and he might have been rather honored to be offered one if he had any inclination there.
He was leaning back on the counter, looking very content, languid. He didn't lift his arms unless he had to, and that was only to eat or drink at the moment.

A quick glance over how Tony held himself, a look up toward the ceiling to make sure they weren't sitting under a smoke detector, about to get in some serious trouble, and then Ever pulled out a pack of cigarettes, mostly depleted. Three left, and he only tapped out one, sliding it up between his lips while he fumbled for his lighter.
"I think maybe we'll just share, Tony." It was mumbled around the filter, his eyes taking in his glasses: Ever'd forgotten which was water and which alcohol. Oh well, he'd figure it out quickly. "So you don't burn the place down."

Tony nodded his head, not too fussed about sharing. It had been the order of the day back when he was a kid. Even if he hadn't been a regular smoker, whenever his friends lit up he'd steal a few puffs. Maybe it was the desire to look cool, a constant fueling force in his ruffian lifestyle, but he had never admitted it back then. And barely wanted to think that was the case now. Pride remained, even in retrospect.
But he was too drunk for deep thinking at the moment.
"Now why would I be the one burning the place down?" Tony asked with a playful indignation in his tone. He eyed Ever curiously, taking a drink from one cup, wrinkling his nose, then taking a drink from the proper cup. It seemed he had mixed the two, as well.
"You're just as drunk as I am."

"One, I'm not half as drunk as you are...." Which may or may not have been true; Ever fumbled with his lighter, but that could just have been due to its cheap nature. Plastic. Vibrantly yellow with a smiley face on it. He'd probably picked it up in a dollar store somewhere.
After a little bit of fumbling, he got the end to light, and his eyes flicked up onto Tony in a considering sort of way. They were bright with amusement. He drew in one long puff of smoke and then let the cigarette dangle between his fingers, over the remains of his pizza.
"...B..." This time his words were clearer, freer. "I do a lot, and I bet you haven't in years."
He'd forgotten to share. A moment, and then he blinked, considering his cigarette. He didn't think Tony could manage. So he held it up toward the man's mouth, to let him take a puff without fumbling and dropping it.

Tony looked at Ever as he lit the cigarette, expecting to be given it. He frowned when the younger man opted to treat him like an invalid instead of a perfectly capable, booze addled adult. He might be a bit wobbly, a little bit, but he was certainly capable of holding a cigarette.
He leaned forward and caught the proffered cigarette between his lips, taking a long drag and then grinning before blowing the smoke in Ever's direction. He reached up and took the cigarette then, showing off a bit as he triumphantly held it to his mouth for another drag.
All the while trying not to cough.
And then, of course, he did cough, and he did drop the cigarette, it landing on the floor beside him harmlessly. Still, he had proven exactly why he shouldn't have been given it at all. He cleared his throat by drinking some water, then chased the boring 'taste' of the water away with some alcohol. And then he coughed again. Life was hard.
"Smooth," he said, with an embarrassed grin.

In the meantime Ever snatched up the cigarette and shook it off onto his pizza, shaking his head at Tony and flashing a grin: slow, growing as Tony coughed, endlessly amused by his fumbling and his red face and his attempts to play it off. In reply, he brought the end of the cigarette to his own mouth and drew on it, sweeping up the mess Tony'd left on the floor.
He blew it out crookedly: no elegance, no smoke rings or attempts to be cool, just a familiar comfort. He was just an addict, was all. "Yeah, I see that. Maybe I'll just hold onto the rest of it, so you don't lose your job."
But he was still smiling as he teased, smoothing fingers together as his eyes flicked back up to Tony. "You look about ready to pass out."

Tony decided quietly that he had enough smoking for one night. He was still struggling to catch his breath, shaking his head slowly. His effort to mask them was to pretend he had choked on his water or booze, which wasn't really any less pathetic.
But it felt better in his head, and that was what was important.
"That might be for the best," he said with a half strangled smirk. He drank a bit more from either cup and sighed, seemingly soothed at last. At Ever's observation, Tony scoffed. He was, in fact, very ready to pass out. But he didn't want to.
He opened his eyes without realizing he was dozing.
"Hmmm," was his response.

Ever had shifted, resettled with his back against the counter beside Tony, the cigarette still clutched carefully between two fingers and a cup in his other hand: it looked natural, familiar, comfortable. This was, more or less, Ever's element. He flashed a smile as Tony opened his eyes.
"Are you going to be okay to get home?" It was a very careful question, meant more as a test than searching an answer. No, Tony couldn't get home like this, and if he didn't know better, Ever was going to have to take action. He sipped his drink, for now.
