I got bugged alot when I was reading Watership Down at recess when I was in 5th grade. Then my teacher started freaking out when I brought a Stephen King book to school. Then people left me alone in middle school. Now people ask me "Why do you read all the time? Don't you have friends? Your social life must suck." Usually I just glare at them and they back off. It's the middle of English class, who the hell am I supposed to talk to, ********? stare

Yes indeed. People are always teasing me and calling me anti-social because I would rather read than do things like sports (hooray, pointlessly hitting, throwing and chasing a ball! *twirls finger*) or drive around. Honestly, books are much better company that a lot of people that I know. Same thing happened to my as did LadyDarcia, except I was reading a book that was bigger than my history textbook, heh heh.

I used to get bullied alot because many of my classmates had ESL or jsut didnt know how to read when i was younger(up to high school, and some now too), so I think people thought I acted superioir or something cause I read and didnt like to talk or do sports, even though Im kinda big and you'd assume I wouldx.x(actually I hate physical exertion 'cept for swimming and such, oh and I actually like dodgeball, but they for some reason ban it in middle and elementary school P.E. classes, so we did aerobics-shudder- and the Phsyical Fitness test~grrr~)

I got picked on because I'd rather sit in the corner and read a good book then talk to my classmates. I dont know why reading = antisocial. because you like to read a book means I never talk to someone else?

I jsut like the fact that the same kids who acted like this always asked me for help on doing essays and outlines and such like a week later, and would try and pick on em more until i helped them.

hehehe, being a foot taller then your classmates is a handy thing though if your a nerd, and since the teachers trusted me I never got in trouble 4laugh

ironiclly, outside my family the fact that I always have a book on me never really comes up >.>

When I was much younger I got teased a lot for reading at recess. But now that I am older it hardly ever comes up. Sometimes my friends pal around and comment on how I always have a book with me. I know, though, that they mean well and it's said out of love.

Yeah, my friends make fun of me alot about it. Once I was reading a rather large book and my friend pulled out a tape measure and measured three inches and they made fun of me forever about it.

I'm not a very girly girl. My friends aren't really frilly or anything, but they care about hair, and makeup, and purses. I don't. They just don't understand that sensation I get at the library's used book sale every year, or at the book fair, or at a bookstore. They don't understand how my shopping sprees translate into book sprees.

It's the same way about video games. confused

I used to read at lunch but when my friends started to steal my books when I wasn't looking I quit bringing the books with me.

All the time. I read on the bus and and classmates have made fun of me. I even used to read at lunch. I'm like Rory Gilmore getting in trouble for reading to much at school..

I'm not sure if this counts, but 50% of the time I bring a book to my Therapist and Psychologist sessions. One day I mentioned a book I had bought earlier that week at Barnes and Nobles, and the Psychologist said "That would put me right to sleep."

If I try to read a book in front of my friends, they ask me stupid questions and poke me till' I stop.

I'm declining to attend a family reunion next weekend because I know I'll just end up spending most of it reading on my own. People will keep asking me about my reading material, but knowing them I'd probably get a lecture about how I shouldn't be reading that kind of stuff.

Actually, no. All my friends are avid readers and wouldn't bother me while I was reading, although this may also be due to my tendency to snap at people when jerked out of a book..
