Zac choked on his bite of bread and grabbed for the water which he sloshed on the table cloth getting it to his mouth to wash down the offending morsel he had tried to inhale. "God... don't...DO that...could you be more blunt if you TRIED?" He said his cheeks a dark crimson.

"I'd expect you to respect that..." He quirked a bright smile, rolling his shoulders at Zac and slowly leaning back. After a moment it clicked into place that they were in a restaurant, and Zac was paying -- so Ever went sorting through the menu for the biggest and cheapest thing he could find. Something to take with him when he was done...
"I mean, would you rather I danced around things more?" His fingers tracked the page, quickly. Pasta, maybe. or chicken parm...

"God... how can you be so casual about it?" He said staring like Ever had grown another head. "You're just talking about...and you just..." He waved his hand and then shook his head. "God... the world is crazy, No.. No I just...don't be evasive it'll just drive me insane but..." He waved his hands and shook his head at a loss for a middle ground.

He flicked a look up over the page at Zac, thinking about that with his head tipped to the side. After a moment, Ever put the thing down [chicken parm, definitely, and maybe he could talk Zac into a pitcher of coca-cola] and folded his arms across the table.
"I'm committed. I don't really get why you wouldn't be." A quick lick of his lips, and he raised one shoulder in a shrug. "I mean, it is really fun to give you a hard time, so maybe I ham it up a little. Now and then. But in general, uh. I don't know. Why lie about it, unless someone's likely to beat the s**t out of you for it...?"

"If their planning on beating the s**t out of you, they will probably do so if you lie or if you DON'T... so why not just be honest anyhow, though I think declaring your ...personal... preferences is pushing it just a BIT." He said looking flustered again.

Ever made a dismissive noise at that, arms folded, and shook his head a little. "That's not what I mean. I mean more like, hm."
Another little fidget, his eyes flashing up and around. Wanted someone to come take their orders, get the food to them faster. But they resettled pretty quickly onto Zac. "Like I wouldn't say something like that in my old church. Or in the midst of football practice somewhere."

The woman bustled out again with huge bowls of salad and soup perched on her arms, it seemed amazing that she could cary them without spilling hot soup all over her thick arms but she set them down between you and the wide Eyed Zac who apparently never saw quite THIS much food brought out before because he opened his mouth to talk only to be scolded, one thick finger was pointed at you, and you were both given a healthy discourse on how dreadfully unhealthy all this dieting and sport bars could be for you. She took the orders when she was done, and added a few final tips about making sure you drank good whole milk for strong bones and growing taller. Zac struggled not to make a face and she pinched his ear for it and said she knew his mother before vanishing again with the list to fetch the rest of the food. "...I'm never bringing you here again." Zac said red faced...

"...why not?" Ever, on the other hand, looked almost dizzyingly happy, already going for his fork and a little salad to devour the leaves. He had to wonder, idly, if he just showed up and meekly asked for plain pasta with butter, turned out nearly-empty pockets and gave mournful eyes, the woman would insist on more free goodies...
"Seems like I'm a useful person to have around, anyway. And it's not like seh thought we were a couple or anything..." Teasing, that, and bubblingly pleased, shoving another leaf toward his mouth. He paused. "...what was that about sports bars, though?"

"... Because she NEVER brings salad and soup..." He hissed through his teeth... "god you better have a hollow leg cause she wont let you away from this table if she thinks your underfed still." He huffed and picked at the salad before answering. "Sport Bars...the little... energy things that they make that some people eat when they diet...stupid I think cause carbs are for working out and thats most of what they are..." he shrugged, theirs a whole freaking gossip chain of people who talk about them in the lockers before and after gym...ridiculous really."

"Ohh..." Ever's mind had gone somewhere totally different: someplace with pool and six different kinds of beer on tap and men who almost certainly would take offense to the sort of blunt comments Ever made to Zac. He pulled a face, thinking of the sport bars, and then rolled one shoulder in a shrug.
"How different are they from that granola crap you gave me at lunchtime?"

Zac paused, some lettuce speared and half way to his mouth as he thought about the question before he gave a small shrug. "....Rice and chocolate?" he said and flashed an amused smile before eating the bite of salad looking like a self satisfied hamster. "Bet you ate it though..." He said with an amused look.

"Well...yes." There was a blink and then a bright twinge of amusement, Ever setting aside his empty plate and reaching out to nab a bowl of the soup, instead. Somewhat slowed, now, he picked out the good parts instead of just devouring, stretching his legs into Zac's space -- as usual.
"You should listen to her, though. Can't imagine why you'd eat that with any other option."

"Because sometimes the other option is the Cafeteria food, you should hear her rant about the cold cuts. She threatened to storm in there and stuff up the sinuses of the administration, any cold cut through whom light could be seen. She had a separate rant about ones you could read through..." He tried a mouthful of soup and made a small face. "Do you like mushroom?"

"I like most things." He raised his eyebrows at Zac, working on his own soup in an absent sort of way -- but at least not leaning forward as he did. No elbows on the table, just legs stretched out and head tipped to the side.
"Couldn't you pack your own lunch and ignore the cold cuts, though?" Still a disconnect, his own experience with cafeterias relatively brief. Ever shrugged.

".. I live in a dormitory, we're not supposed to have -anything-... I hide contraband granola bars in my former room mate's mattress and drinks in his old foot locker and pretend the key went with him... I don't really get a lot of options till the day lets out and thats only when I... borrowed some money." He said with a small shrug.
