Amanda Hope O'Conner ♥ ♥ ♥ When Crimson cheerfully greeted the dogs Amanda smiled and was suddenly pushed aside by a rude and pompous man. It was obvious to everyone but him apparently that he had royally pissed Crimson off. Ignoring his rambling she acknowladged Crimson's comment about the photo shoot and answered him, "I'll swing by the clinic in a day or so and we can talk more. Ah, and good luck to you as well." Celeste also headed off soon after Crimson to go be judged, Amanda wished her luck as well. Turning finally to look at the rude man she stood her ground and poked at him. "You my sir are a boob. And I do not mean the nicely." Turning and walking away she was rather proud that Jet and Abby had behaved themselves throughout the whole exchange.
Reaching the judges station Amanda let them know that it was Jet who was going to do a trick and Abby was part of the cheering squad. Kissing Jet's head for luck she let him off the leash and hoped things went well.

Crimson smiled at Gemma and ran his free hand through his hair. "Ay, I should've bought myself a dog sooner, lassie. All the girls are swooning all over me ever since i got Rally here." He motioned down to his beloved dog with a grin. He soon went to a crouch and stroked Rally's head. "Ralinalia, this is Gemma. Gemma, Ralinalia." He motioned back and forth between the two respectively and rose back to his high standing. "How've you been, lassie?" He drew his attention more towards Gemma now, it hadn't been very long since they'd seen each other. But, it was still nice to see her again.
The old man didn't have very many friends, so it was good to see a person he considered himself rather acquainted with again. It only dawned on him after peering at Reinbach from a distance that he had barged in on Gemma. "Oy, you weren't busy o'er here, were you, mate?" He turned back to her, a slight sense of worry crossing his face.

Gemma grinned, "Oh, you'll be needing a stick to beat them off you now, do you?" she asked, gently moving her hand to accommodate Rally's probing nose. It was rather damp, and just a little cold. Gemma never had a pet, her parents were allergic to the critters. Her father to dogs and her mother to cats, which left her with nothing but fish, birds, gerbils, rabbits... well, now she wondered why she never got any pet. Maybe it was because she was too scatterbrained to take care of one. Her parents would have to do every little thing, because she wouldn't want any of the responsibilities. She wondered why she didn't get one now, though. She was much older and a lot more responsible, or so she felt.
Crimson introduced them, then. Having crouched down to the level of Gemma and the dog when doing so. Ralinalia, what an pretty, if odd, name. She'd say 'Nice to meet you,' but she wasn't sure whether that would be odd or look strange. Instead, she pulled back from the pretty dog and followed Crimson's action suit. Standing up to her full height, which was still so short next to him. God, this was so cruel! "Why do you have to be so tall?" she grumbled lightly, making a small frown. It didn't last long, like any of Gemma's many moods. She really only felt the sting of anger when she feels wronged, and this was something that was out of either of their controls. It wasn't her fault she was so short, or his that he was so tall!
"Hmm?" Gemma hummed at his question, her eyes looking around the crowd for a moment before settling on him again. Worry, it was playing lightly across his face. "Oh no, not at all!" she reassured, her hand gently patting his arm to banish any of those thoughts from his mind. "In fact, I was actually kinda hoping somebody would come up and talk to me. I'm glad it's a familiar face, though." she smiled wistfully, passing her hand through her hair and briefly flashing her new tattoo she had gotten a short time before. She hadn't forgotten about it, but the move was not intentional, either.

Crimson laughed at Gemma's response to his generic joke. He was glad she didn't treat him like an old creeper, like everyone else seemed to do. He smiled once she pet Rally, he was also rather glad at this point that rally hadn't attacked anyone, or even shown dislike. She was turning out to be a very great companion. He felt proud of himself for making such a good choice.
He looked down at her, their height difference was rather hilarious to him. But, it was obviously not for her, or she was just joking again. Either way, he laughed. "I apologize, love. Would you like me to crouch down to your height, mate?" He laughed and continued his routine glance around.
Crimson was rather glad when she said that she was glad to talk to his familiar face, or something like that. He happened to glance at her arm at the exact moment that she played with her hair. He didn't think that tattoo had been there the last time they spoke, but he hadn't given her a thorough inspection. "I didn't know you had any ink, mate." He made a little comment, trying to keep the smalltalk flowing.

Ah, now for the glorious judging segment! Of course, none but Gaston could do the honors~ Sure, it may have been cheating a little for the man to be doing the judging when he himself had a pet inside the contest, but.. He was the mayor! He could do whatever he wanted to do! Who better to judge an animal's beauty than someone like Gaston, after all?! He nodded in agreement to his own thought and then left to go down the row of pets, witnessing their tricks with some awe, some irritation, and some boredom, but he did manage to sit through each one~ ..In what order, you ask? Ah, well, it was in the same order they entered in! Of course! All seventeen were done in the order following~
Florence VIII the Lemur - 9 Florence Zero the Panther - 2 Newt the Cat - 4 Shui the Leech - 8 Zap the Petrock - 1 Catrina the Cat - 6 Jaeja the Fennec Fox - 3 Bokonon the Jerboa - 5 Zipper the Dog - 3 Pierrot the Dog - 3 Mister BoJangle the Mouse - 5 Branky the Dog - 9 Gunther the Octopus - 9 Azriel the Ferret - 5 Rally the Dog - 3 Lucyfur the Fox - 8 Jet the Dog - 2

After a few minutes of calculating the points for, obviously, the most popular contest, a winner was found~ Gaston stood up from his desk and strode over to the middle of the square, a servant following beside him with a rope in hand to lead a small, fuzzy little ostrich. The bird twisted her head about in curiosity as she examined the surroundings, staying close beside the male that lead her to stand in front of the crowd with Gaston. As for why she was there.. Well, that was to be answered at a later time. The robust, elegant mayor had with him a roll of parchment, yellowed and torn slightly at the edges to enhance the class and 'authenticity' of the store-bought paper, much like how some would purchase already torn and worn jeans rather than a nice pair of functional wear. He gave it a shake and let it unroll itself, clearing his throat into the microphone taped to the collar of his shirt. He glanced over the paper on his own, mentally cursing that his servants had drastically lowered in availability since the elephant episode at his own estate.. The few that had survived were in need of therapy, which, in Gaston's terms, meant they had to be locked away from sight until they were willing to brush their hair and sleep regularly again. Really, who would burden him with an unkempt appearance, trauma or not?
Regardless, he eventually spoke up with a joyful lift in his voice, “ It appears that the best pet on the island has been selected – and rightfully so! For, it is with great honor, that my Florence be the winner!!” He proclaimed grandly with a sweep of his arm towards the fan-like tree that the lemur occupied. He didn't quite understand what was going on, but he knew excitement when he saw it, which caused a few whoots and cheers from the primate himself. He hopped around some on his branch and chattered towards a nearby woman – a blond, curly girl standing with a dog. (Amanda~) Gaston wasn't finished, though, even as he stopped applauded his own pet with tears in his eyes at the victory for his beloved animal. He went on more drawled and disinterested than before, his eyes half-lidded as he motioned to the woman he spoke of shortly, “ As for the raffle, the winner of this hideous bird is Gemma Rhodes.” He pointed out the woman and nudged the servant to head over to her, the slave going on happily enough to hand the leash to the woman.

Gemma felt glad that she was able to make Crimson laugh, she was a funny person. Or maybe not, and Crimson just laughed easily. Either way, it made her feel good. Normally, people didn't find her offbeat personality very amusing. It wasn't everyday somebody like herself, a grown woman, would be acting the way she does. Gemma was gifted with a young spirit, and it shined through in her bubbly and offbeat personality. She's still a little ditzy, but it can be accounted to the fact that it just gives her a peculiar charm all her own.
When Crimson suggested lowering to her stature, she quickly shook her head. "Wouldn't that be uncomfortable on your back?" Gemma asked, seeing the height difference and not finding it favorable for him. In any case, he should stand proudly! If she was that tall, she'd... yeah, no. Tall women are kinda scary to some men and women alike. So no, she wouldn't stand proudly. But seeing as Crimson was tall and good-looking, he should show it off! And then he mentioned something about... ink? "Ah, ink?" She voiced her confusion, her face puzzled. The first thought that popped into her head, was her bag. She always carried a few pens in her bag. When you were a teacher, a writing utensil on your person is ALWAYS a must.
And then she remembered something Matthew watched called L.A. Ink, or something like that. Maybe he was passing channels and fell asleep, but that was what was on the television. And it was about a tattoo parlor...? Nanami! Oh, right! She hadn't noticed how she had 'flashed' her tattoo to him moments earlier. "Oh, right, the tattoo." Gemma put her hand out, the tattoo facing upward. It wasn't particularly pretty, but it was interesting; like Gemma. "No, I don't think so. I got it just a little while back, I didn't have it for the treasure hunting festival." She explained, hoping he wouldn't mind. Matthew had went on a tirade when he saw it, mentioning something about tramp stamps...? She'd have to stay away from those stamps at the Post Office. Would it be a stamp specifically for tramps? Now she wondered if that blond back at Matthew's workplace got it, she'd have to ask the next time she saw her.
"Oh, about that. Congratulations on winning the treasure hunt!" Gemma smiled at her friend, "I hadn't had an opportunity before, so, I thought..." she let the sentence hang, shrugging her shoulders with her hands facing up. Was that a sheepish smile and a soft blush running across her face? And then the Mayor had an announcement to make, "Oh, look, they're going to announce the winner!" she said excitedly, hoping for the best that Crimson or, at least, somebody deserving of it would win. Alas, her face fell when Gaston announced himself the winner. Well, wasn't that the slightest bit anticlimactic? "Oh, Crimson," she put her hand on his forearm gently, "I'm sorry." she frowned, looking down then at Ralinalia. Before she could bend down to give the dog a sympathy pat, the mayor went on. Raffle, hah! Like anybody really won those things. As Gemma was about to turn back toward Crimson, she was announced the winner. Of some... bird thing. But the excitement was so much more tangible than the confusion. "Wow, I've never won anything before! This is so exciting!" She told the crimson haired man, taking the leash from the servant and leaning down to look at the small Ostrich.
"Hi~" Gemma said softly, not wanting to scare it. Unable to help herself, she went to touch it's fuzzy belly with her index finger, before the little monster bit at her. Hard. "Ow!" She said in surprise, rather than pain. Anybody who had been caught by a mouse trap once or twice would know that something like this was nothing compared to that. "I'm calling you, the Cookie Monster." She smiled anyway, "Cookie, for short." Gem said gently, watching out for Rally from approaching. Though it sure wasn't blue, it was fuzzy and bit like the Cookie Monster, alright. She didn't know what she was going to do with it, but that's why she was glad Crimson was with her! He'd help her, right?

Crimson was about to go on a rather lengthy spiel about grand ole Oz and when he almost got a tattoo. But, luckily for Gemma, Gaston interrupted it, and to announce his own winning. Not that he minded, but it seemed a little fixed to him that the person running it was allowed to enter. Let alone win. He watched the man approach Amanda and opened his mouth to finally get something out, but the man wasn't done. He watched as some sort of raffle thing went on and then, Gemma?! That was so exciting! He was standing next to the winner! What was the prize? An ostrich? Maybe that would mean that Gemma would be coming into the vet's? That would be great. Not only would he get more business, but he would get to see a friendly face more often.
"Thanks, Gemma. It was mainly Keith, though, mate. Don't give me all of the credit, lassie." He let out another laugh. The treasure hunt seemed like it was eons away as he stood in the field. Time was floating by him so quickly, and he was just getting older and older. He felt so pathetic as his mind raced. "and no worries, you can't win 'em all, eh?" He shrugged it off.
He chuckled as Rally began sniffing the new creature madly, "Congrats, Gemma." He nodded and continued watching the two interact, ostriches were such odd creatures. He was watching carefully, knowing of their temperament issues when it lashed on Gemma. "Oy, are you alright, lassie?" He leaned in, his doctor duties kicking in.

Gemma gently cradled her hand a moment, watching a small red bruise make itself apparent in the spot between her thumb and index finger. It'd be gone soon, but she didn't expect such a little bird to actually leave an angry red mark like that. Not even a tiny one. She slowly looked up at Crimson, and then back down at her hand. "It's fine, I'm fine." She assured, though her eyes then went down to the little bird who was... interacting with Ralinalia. Was it odd that the two animals reminded her of her height difference with Crimson again? Hmm, she really must be getting a complex. Gem would have to squash that before it really developed. She didn't mind tall people, but Crimson was, like, freakishly tall! And she used to think Matt was tall, hah!
After a moment of watching the two animals together, Gemma's hand with the leash went up to rub her arm. "Trust me, it's nothing compared to a mouse trap!" And oddly enough, she smiled up at him. Sure, it was painful at the time, but she actually treasured the moment. Her late grandfather was the one to actually take the trap off, and the time after that, too. Surprisingly, instead of breaking down after he died, she instead snapped another mouse trap. And it still hurt like a ********-- like hell, but she didn't really quite understand why she did it. Her young mind was very much emotionally overpowered at the time, and logic just flew out the window at that time. Her grandpa, Pappy, was close to all his grandchildren. All three of them. But Gemma was the girl, the princess. She would get just the slightest bit more attention, though they all knew she was 'different' to begin with. It came as a shock to her that he just went to sleep and he'd never wake up, but she didn't cry. Instead, she believed he was in a nice pleasant dream and he simply decided to not wake up. She was sad, however, that he wasn't coming back. No more coming to rescue her from the painful mouse traps.
Before he could comment on that, she deflected the topic of conversation. If he were to ask, she would probably just blurt it all out. Being indiscreet was not something she actually liked about herself, she really just didn't have a filter between her brain and her mouth. "Hey, Crimson, do you have an idea about what Cookie would eat or need?" She asked, eyeing the small bird curiously as it leapt forward at Ralinalia. Just a small jump, or more like a small hop. Maybe it was trying to be intimidating? And not to mention the little sounds it was making.

♬ Rhapsody Skysong ♫ Rhapsody clapped loudly when Gemma won the little Ostrich. She was happy the woman had a companion and a friend now. Her belief was to at least have owned a few pets. Since they don't judge you and are easy to handle. Well some were. Feeling friendly and wanting to meet new people Rhapsody got up, dusted her skirt off and walked over to where Gemma and Crimson were. For a brief moment she kept her distance from The little Ostrich and smiled at Gemma. " Congrats on winning this little one" She said examining the Ostrich with a Vet's eye. Rhapsody determined mentally that it would grow up to be strong and healthy. But a handful.
At that moment did Donnas decide to make his grand entrance. He backed himself up against the far end of the paddock and went on his hind legs before bolting forward at a gallop. Once he got close to the fence he soared over the rail. Landing on his front hooves and snorting happily that he had escaped that confined area. Seeing his friend talking to a female human and the red haired man from earlier, Donnas trotted over to the three. Only stopping when he saw the small furry thing on two legs with a long neck and mouth. Head lowered and ears pricked as his nostrils flared in curiousity.
Rhapsody sighed when Donnas had escaped. He did not know the meaning of stay put. But in time he would learn..if ever. But she still kept a smile on since she never wanted to look sad or concerned for personal reasons. One of them dealing with her Fiance, who still wrote letters to her, wanting her to come back and get married. At age 23, there was no way she would settle down and get married at that age.

As the clocks started to finish their steady way to 6 o'clock, the festival began to clear. Gaston had ordered his usual parade of servants to drag his beloved lemur back to his mansion across the island while he went with Reinbech to be carried off together as brother's should! Mao and Zhi had met up, one carrying the cute cat, the other with a tank and sleepy leech. They walked part of the way to their homes, sending condescending comments at each other for either the loss or higher score that their respective pets earned. Yoakim Jr. trudged home soon after with Zap in hand, head lowered, but not depressed despite the rock's constant insults and accusations. He got to hang out with Celeste~! He couldn't be happier! Catrina eventually joined the boy in humiliation as, with a study of the scores, she found that she had gotten lower than both of her brother's pets. She may as well hang out with the rejected kid and his rock. Lastly, Benedek rolled off (literally) after a long-running argument with the old woman on how he wanted to enter his damned steak. ..Oh, well, he would just go home and give steaky to Emery~ Then eat it after she got attached! Ah, such fun that will be! { The Festival is closing, please exit your characters before the thread is locked! }

Gemma had no idea what she had gotten herself into. Everything that had been aforementioned flew out the window at the question of an ostriches diet and needs. "Well, lassie. For the diet ostriches eat various seeds, grasses, bushes and leaves on trees and the like, mate. But, they tend to need some kind of meat and usually attempt to kill small creatures, love. So, keep him in an enclosed area. He'll be killing every little critter, mate. Water is a big thing for ostriches, they need a gallon and a half every day, love. Be sure he gets it." He nodded at that, ostriches looked so friendly, but were rather cruel when it came down to their personalities. "But, as far as needs go, lassie. You'll need a space for him to exercise, they spend a lot of their days running and can run up to 40 miles an hour. Which means they need lots of running space, mate." He nodded at Rhapsody as she arrived towards the end of his spiel, perhaps she had some other advice for ostriches. "Oy, and fencing and restraint training is rather big with them, lassie. They tend to be rather wild at nature, mate." He finished off, completing unaware of how much he had talked.
He turned his attention to Rhapsody now with a welcoming grin, "G'day, mate. 'Ow are you two?" He then smiled at Donnas, "We were just talking about ostrich care, do you have anything to add, lassie?" He was trying to get Gemma as much as help as he could, he was just so passionate about animals and could never honestly see how much he was talking about them.

♬ Rhapsody Skysong ♫ Her lips upturned into a small smile when Crimson greeted her and Donnas. " Donnas came in second place. Other than that I have been great" Rhapsody replied taking note that people were leaving the grounds. She pulled out a pocket watch and saw that it was time for them to be heading out. Rhapsody sighed and looked at Crimson. " well I best head out, call me whenever you want to hang out. You should have my number" Rhapsody said as shegrabbed the halter and began tugging Donnas along. She stopped to pick up her seond place ribbon and headed out from there

Gemma had listened to him give his little spiel, nodding as if she would remember all of that. Normally, she would. She would have a trusty pen on her person and she'd jot down all of it. Alas, it was not on her now. She got that it was an omnivore, and that it needed a lot of space... but, she didn't have that! Matthew didn't have that! It was still small, maybe it would be okay to have it about the house? And then, a rather sad and negative thought popped into her head. If it got too wild or grew too much, feed it to Judith's feline. She really didn't want that, but she really couldn't provide some of those things for the small Ostrich when it grew. Maybe she sould just return it now, before it was too late!
The Mayor was right over there, she could still catch him! Oh no, he was leaving! And Crimson's speech just didn't seem to dim, much to her sudden feeling of desperation. Rhapsody appeared then, and Gemma greeted her with a small smile and a 'Hello'! She would have said more, but tension was coiling itself around inside her as the idiot Mayor's back receded. Another surprise, Donnas. She actually tugged her leash back, making the Ostrich stumble backward because of it. Her little Cookie looked so miniscule compared to the other two animals. No, Crimson, no! Why did you have to bring the other girl into this? She made a small frown as Gaston disappeared from sight. ********, she missed him! With a sigh, she watched the girl say her goodbyes. Oh, so this pretty woman liked to hang out with Crimson, too? Maybe they could all get together~
Maybe Gemma could invite Nanami, since she'd like to know who her other firends were, too. Didn't she like interesting people also. and who other than Crimson? What a nice, pleasant thought. She smiled and waved as the other woman left, leaving her with Crimson again. "How about, I drop by your Clinic sometime this week and you can tell me all about Ostriches and whatnot?" She suggested, a small shrug of her shoulders following it. She'd suggest tomorrow, but he may not want to see her that soon. Gemma knew she could get a little tiring to have around sometimes.

Crimson nodded and smiled at Rhapsody, "G'bye, lassie." He watched her go and then brought his attention back to Gemma. "I'm really sorry I got off onto that, love." He rubbed his neck in a nervous manner and then nodded as she said she'd just stop by the clinic. That sounded much better, then Celeste could make fun of him for never shutting up. He gave a smile thinking about the spunky redhead then quickly brought himself back, "That sounds great, mate. I look forward to seeing you, stop by anytime, lassie." He nodded and then spotted that not only Rhapsody was leaving, but everyone. "Well, it looks like this is coming to a conclusion, mate. I'll see ya, love." He smiled and nodded to her once more before tugging gently on Rally's leash to get her to leave.
