Rosa Zabójca Squad 12's Guard Guess it's time. Rosa jumped lightly up on top of Jack who immediately started to canter off, her hands tugging on the reigns to slow him down. She clicked her tongue, his great head shaking in frustration. Leaning close to his ear, she whispered, "I'll take you out running next time we have a break ok?" She smiled again underneath her mask, straightening up to glance to her team mates.
Once more, it hit her that she should really try to be more friendly since they had to work together. At the very least more talkative. She had just gotten so used to speaking only when she had something to say though, so it was strange to do anything differently. She really had no idea where to begin in any case. Ah well, things tend to work themselves out. She sighed lightly, taking the lead per usual.

Gondin Squad 12's Guard
Chuck waited for all the other horses to go past. Either Chuck knew he and Gondin were the rear guard, or he was just being lazy. Gondin liked to assume it was the former. Once everyone had gone by they started trodding along behind. With Rosa in front and Gondin at the rear, it gave Senel and Amaya a chance to prepare. If it were deathwalkers for example, Rosa and Gondin could provide enough of a distraction for them to get the magic vision mojo working. They might get banged up in the stalling process trying to deal with invisible threats, but it was a heck of a lot better than letting Amaya get taken out straight away. And even if it isn't death walkers, one can never underestimate the well placed arrow of a bandit. That's why Rosa was in the lead. Her senses were sharper than his. Gondin just chuckled softly to himself. In the end, I really am nothing more than muscle in this group. 'Somebody point me at something to kill!' It bothered him a little, but as was his way he quickly brushed it off. Besides, it's a working setup. If the sword is good, don't try to reforge it.Gondin and Chuck trotted along behind the team, Gondin humming a tune he had heard at the tavern in the previous city.

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux closed his eyes as she continuously tore into him about him supposedly suggesting that she couldn't hold her own in battle. He began to get slightly angry at this. After she had finished he spoke, keeping his voice clam, " I never said anything of the sort. I was merely saying that while you helped Lady Mayu escape, Mal and I bought you a little extra time. I would never insult you like that, you know this," he said he looked over at the tent that Lady Mayu had emerged from, " An what, pray tell, would you do if I DID love you?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

Shalrien and Shade Guard and unofficial guard of Squad 4
"And you and I both know that Shade could have gotten Mayu out without my presence." Shalrien replied crossly. Hearing his question, a dark blush came to her cheeks as she looked between Mayu and Lux before shifting her gaze back to Lux. "If you DID love me, then I would have fought you harder to stay and help. And then I would have beat you for trying to send me away." She said as she stared at him for a moment before shifting her gaze back to Mayu and Shade.

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux sighed once more, "Well, you volunteered to escort Lady Mayu while we bought you time. If I had my way you would have been back there with us." He said calmly looking away he looked back at her, " Then why didn't you?" he said regarding her earlier words. He stood and walked towards Lady Mayu.

Shalrien and Shade Guard and unofficial guard of Squad 4
"No, I volunteered Shade. Then you and Mal sent me with her. Mal practically threw me on the cat and sent her off before I couldn't even get a word out, by that point I didn't have a choice. I would have fought had I had more than a second to process what was happening. What should have happened was that you, Mayu, and Mal escaped while Shade took Mal and Mayu to safety, while I stayed back to hold them off. My death would not have been as detrimental to the team as Mal's." Shalrien argued as Shade trotted to her side.

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux closed his eyes again, " I never volunteered YOU I had no say in what happened. Mal was adamant that you got away. He was the one who loved you, not I. True your strategy would have been more effective. but your death is not something That would just pass over the group. Mal and I would have ended up fighting because of it just as you and I are now." he said looking down at the dying embers of the fire, he somehow envied them, living a short brilliant life before going out quietly.

Shalrien and Shade Guard and unofficial guard of Squad 4
A few tears stung Shalrien's eyes as she listened to Lux. "Regardless of how Mal felt about me or I felt about him, we would never had been allowed to be together! Handlers are usually expected to be with other handlers just as the Vestec Nia are forbidden to have an intimate relationship with anyone but another Vestec Nia! In order to keep the organization alive this is how things must be done! The organization clearly states that a guard should willingly die before the Handler or the Vestec!" She yelled. Shalrien knew the laws of the organization well and they were ingrained in her training and how she dealt with situations. "And now Mal is dead!"

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux turned to her and wrapped his arms around her, " Blame me if you must, but that won't change anything. We need to clam down we can't work cohesively if something like this drives a stake between us. Right now our biggest duty is to get Lady Mayu safely back to the capital so we can get a new handler." He moved away and turned his back. A long sigh escaped his lips before he turned once more to face her. "If it will make you feel even the slightest bit better, hit me. As hard as you can. I know you blame me for what happened and I can't change that. But I can give you the satisfaction you deserve."

Shalrien and Shade Guard and unofficial guard of Squad 4
"I won't hit you Lux...You're right. We need to get back to the capital and sort this all out." She murmured as she stepped over to Shade, jumping onto the panther's back. Shalrien never really carried possessions with her, just her weapons. Many people thought she was wild by her appearance, but she and Shade merely didn't like to be burdened by all those things, so Shalrien was ready to go, though she seemed numb.

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux sighed once again. He quickly packed up his bedding, he had preferred to sleep under the stars, a tent was too confining. He looked up at the sky the clouds drifting effortlessly everything so peaceful, if only he'd chosen a different path. He could have avoided watching his friends die, and the inevitable, painful and gruesome that had been guaranteed to him when he joined the guard. He silently wondered if there was anyway that the deathwalkers would ever be truly destroyed, if it was really worth it. He turned to Shalrien, " Tell me truthfully, how did you feel about Mal?" He asked, she had been the topic of many of their conversations. Mal spoke of her as if she were a goddess. He neglected to mention the other thing.

"What he mattered to me is irrelevant. What's important is the mission at hand." Shalrien murmured as she looked ahead, but a few tears slipped from her eyes. "But I did love him..." She said, just barely whispering. However Shalrien quickly wiped her eyes and looked at Lux. "What aren't you telling me?" She asked, feeling he was hiding something from her.

Mayu Nikita Squad 4's Vestec Well now Mayu was just at a complete loss as the two started going back and forth. But when Lux was asking about love, and then Mal, her cheeks went bright red. Lowering her eyes, she placed their plates down and retreated back into her tent so they could have the conversation on a slightly more personal level. I didn't really think.... I mean, I had some slight suspicions, but.... Taking a deep breath, she got her things together, taking a few more bites of her apple. Love.... it was such a troublesome thing, yet one of the greatest things to experience when it worked out well. She wondered if she'd end up in an arranged marriage like her parents, or some of her friends. It often happened to help ensure the diversity of the population. At some point though, it's going to become unavoidable. Inbreeding will occur and things could turn ugly. She knew this, she had read it in some books. Or at least she speculated as such.
By the time she was done inside her tent, she walked outside and started taking it down, getting too absorbed in her thoughts to focus too much on what her guards were talking about. You would think that it wouldn't matter too much if a vestec nia or a handler chose someone who wasn't their own. But it still mattered the world. Then her thoughts turned towards Mal. He had always been kind to her. He had been a few years older than her, but he still always kept an eye out for her. She knew he had resembled her brother in some ways, and maybe thats all he was to her. Maybe she was just a little sister to him, or a companion in their journey and work. Who knew? What she did know was now he was dead, and Shalrien's love couldn't hold any potential of blossoming. And she felt like it was her fault.
Biting her lower lip again, she finished tying off the bundle, the tears rising up to her eyes. Thank the goddess her back was to them, because she did not want to disturb them any. She knew Shalrien nor Lux blamed her, that death was a part of their work, but she should have died back there. Not him. No! You can't think like that. It's destructive. You have to move on, don't think about it for now. You will give a prayer song and dance to him another time. Not now. You can do this. Taking another deep breath, she wiped her eyes and sniffled a little, shouldering her bundle of a tent and her bag. Hiding her thoughts moments before, she appeared composed and calm, brushing her hair from her clear brown eyes.
She could still hear them even as she tried to ignore them, cursing their abnormal hearing for once. She wanted to leave the clearing to give them more space, but that was dangerous so she didn't. Instead, she just stood off to the side, humming a tune in her head until they were done.

++Squad 4 Guard: Lux of the White Rose++ Lux looked back up at the sky and nodded lightly. She continued and Lux turned away, "Nothing...I was just...it doesn't matter right now." He looked up at the sky, there, now you can rest my friend. He turned back to Shalrien and nodded in the direction Lady Mayu went. "I-I'll tell you later."

Shalrien and Shade Guard and unofficial guard of Squad 4
Sighing, Shalrien took a deep breath to calm herself as she patted Shade to move ahead of the group and take the lead. While horses should usually be scared of a giant panther, it seemed that the squad's horses were used to Shade's presence, that, and they seemed to know that Shalrien forbid Shade from hunting horses. "It'll take us a few days to get back to the capital." Shalrien murmured to herself as she got a little more comfortable on Shade's back.
