Quite honestly, nothing of this sort had ever happened to Inigo before or anyone he'd met before - seriously, who injured themselves while firing a slingshot? - so he was thoroughly freaked out by this occurrence. When she knelt down, he did at the same time, gently, very gently pushing her hand from the slingshot. "No, no, don't worry about it. Don't apologize. What happened?" He repeated, worry and concern very evident in his voice. How did she hurt herself? Was it something he did? Was it the slingshot? Whatever it was, he didn't want it to happen again. Camping should be fun, not painful. "And of course it is. Are you alright?" As an afterthought he reached down and grabbed the slingshot before slipping it back into his pocket so she couldn't try to pick it up herself and give it to him. He was still completely clueless as to what had happened to the poor girl.

As much as she would have preferred to continue pretending she was by herself and not embarrassing herself in front of a man who was essentially a total stranger, she couldn't help but raise her damask eyes to meet his when he mimicked her movements, dissuading her hand from the slingshot and retrieving it himself. Returning her gaze to the ground once more, she replaced her hand on her arm and attempted to will feeling back into her fingers.

"No, it's just... It's an old injury. I forgot it was still healing." Stupid, stupid, stupid. "It's fine. I'm sorry." Even with all his insistence, it was her own problem and she was determined to keep it that way. The sooner she dismissed his worries and returned to a normal state of affairs the better. This may or may not have been due in part to the fact that she was still quite terrified by the distinct lack of sensation persisting in her hand and her complete unwillingness to reveal this fear.

An old injury? That was a load of bull - if it was old it wouldn't still be healing, but whatever. If she didn't want to tell him what it really was, that was fine by him, as long as she didn't try to do anything that'd hurt herself again. Since she completely refused to mention the lack of feeling in one arm and hand, he was totally unaware of this and assumed she still could use both - except one was obviously injured, and therefore she probably shouldn't use it at all, so he would totally miss the fact that the feeling was temporarily gone in that arm. "Alright," he said at length, relenting, but couldn't help repeating himself again. "Don't be sorry." Why was she apologizing? It was a mistake she made that affected herself - not him.

He inhaled deeply and let it escape as a long, quiet sigh, trying to figure out what to do. "You should sit by the fire, at least. Can you walk over there?"

His words registered slowly, Aila remaining crouched beside the otherwise unsympathetic Metagross and cradling her paralyzed arm. She looked up briefly when she recognized a question and gave a curt nod, "I can." As she returned to her full - though diminutive - height, however, she found that locomotion was still a bit beyond her. Standing was as well, as evidenced by her immediate instinct to lean against Pitre once more. She had been babying her injured arm for a while, and the physiological shock of suddenly placing such a strain on it was more crippling than she had imagined. Though resolved in acting on Inigo's suggestion, she failed to move with the immediacy that would suggest as much.

There she went, trying to do something that she obviously couldn't do and that seemed to even cause her pain. Why was she being stubborn? Didn't girls normally like being helped with stuff? Oh well, it didn't really matter. "Are you sure?" He asked, trying to see if she could, but.. it looked like she could barely stand. Arceus, why did girls have to be so stubborn?

Since it was quite obvious she couldn't go anywhere herself - well, she might be able to, but that would take far too long. A pretty girl was in pain and was much too far away from the warm fire and her tent that held all her things, and her Metagross seemed largely unsympathetic to her plight. This needed to be fixed immediately. So, Aila's only warning was a quick "perdón" followed swiftly by a "pardon me" before she would suddenly find herself scooped up into his arms. It was obvious she was short, but she was also (thankfully) incredibly light too, which made carrying her to her camp that much easier.

"No, I can--" A sharp gasp cut off her reassurance as she was quite unceremoniously hefted into his arms. She shouted all manner of objections - mentally, though, as the words simply refused to take form on her lips with the distraction of her internal flailing. Her face nearly immediately scarlet in mortification, she shut her eyes and shrank against Inigo's form. She wouldn't realize until later that the movement had disturbed her hip, mostly healed as it was, and that was scarcely her primary concern. No, her primary concern was the fact that she was nestled in a stranger's arms. Arceus, she would never live it down, even if no one ever held it over her.

Pitre watched with a mild amusement, though a certain fire-type was less than humored by the sight. Charmant was quickly at Inigo's heels, watching with a scrutinizing glare for any indication that she should Bite. Thus far it seemed he was attempting to help, but who knew how quickly that would change...

It was hard not to notice the fiery blushing of her cheeks nor how she seemed to shrink two more sizes in his arms, he tried not to think about how cute it was and instead hoped it wasn't because he was hurting her more. Arceus, that would make him feel worse. His only current goal was to help, and if she couldn't walk then he'd carry her. It was a simple solution, really.

It took but a few moments to get to the tent and fire, and he very carefully knelt down to set her down as gently as possible. It was then he realized, as five fingers brushed against bare skin, that one hand had been on her leg. Her bare leg. And she was wearing a skirt. Thankfully due to his skin tone the blush on his cheeks was far less evident, but it was still there. He removed his hand from the area as quickly as possible - after he was done setting her down, of course, he would never drop her out of mild shock and slight embarrassment - and moved it to rub the back of his neck and cleared his throat a bit. "Sorry," he felt the need to say. "Can I, uh, get you anything?" Arceus, his hand had been on her leg. A total stranger, pretty much. Nevermind he just picked her up and carried her in his arms, his hand had been on her bare leg. A string of Spanish expletives was currently coursing through his mind.

Her first response to being set down was to hide her face, a process made significantly more difficult by the fact that she could only use one hand to do so. Fortunately there was soon a Growlithe at her side, and she took the opportunity to bury her face in the pink fur, conveniently missing any trace of embarrassment Inigo's own face might have shown in the process. She pried away slightly, revealing a single eye similar in color to the pokemon against which its twin was still pressed with which to acknowledge her company's words. Fortunately for him, she had failed to notice the brush on her leg in her crippling embarrassment. Otherwise he might have very quickly found himself facing a Growlithe's maw.

"Um, no, I..." She huddled slightly closer to Charmant. "I-I'm fine. Thank you." She could have used some ice for the various sore spots around her body, perhaps, but of course she wasn't going to mention that. Besides, it didn't seem that he had an ice-type on him, unless he had other pokeballs hidden somewhere on his person. She found her heartbeat settling back into normalcy and decided it was as good a time as any to ensure she really hadn't torn something on her arm. She rolled up the sleeve and carefully unwound the tightly-wrapped bandages to access the deep scar beneath. It was intact enough, but it was significantly inflamed and throbbed with an inner pain. Gently, almost fearfully, she rubbed the arm in an effort to massage it back to its previous compliance. Her journey was essentially over if the limb reverted to total paralysis...

Luckily for Inigo she didn't seem to notice - a face full of Growlithe would be doubly unpleasant, considering it was a fire-type. He still didn't like them, but for now it was hiding Aila's face, which was more red than the dog's coat was pink. "Um, alright," he said, feeling a bit awkward now.

When she uncovered the wound on her shoulder, however, he couldn't help but comment. "That doesn't look like an old injury to me." Seriously, if it was still wrapped? Unless she meant a couple weeks old, which people didn't usually consider old. "Do you have a washcloth or something? You could soak it in the lake, the water's cold. It might help," he suggested with a half-shrug. He'd never had an injury like that, and plants were his forte, not bodily injuries or anything like that. But he still felt like he should try to help, even if there wasn't too much he could do.

"Old-ish," she amended quietly. It probably felt older than it was; it seemed as though she had been locked up in that infirmary for ages. At mention of a washcloth, she moved to look through her nearby bag. She had brought one; she remembered using it the other-- Ah. She took the square of fabric in her hand and moved to rise with all intent to wet the cloth in the lake's waters only to stagger back to a sitting position from the protest of her hip. All patience left her simultaneously, and she brought the washrag to her face to muffle the loud cry of frustration that escaped her. Heaving a sigh, she lowered it, her brow knit in an expression between anger and sorrow. "Sorry." Why did she feel so obligated to apologize anyway? "I'm not in the best condition of my life."

He couldn't help but wince as she tried to get up, and was sort of surprised when she pressed the cloth to her face to muffle an extremely frustrated sound. Poor thing, but she was being way too stubborn. Her apology made him frown slightly and he sat down near her. "No, don't apologize," he said in a soft tone, reaching out to gently take the cloth from her. "You need to just sit and rest, moving too much will only make things worse." He looked towards the lake, having every intention of soaking the cloth for her - until he realized that would mean getting close to the lake. Like, so close he was actually touching it. So close that, if he touched it, it could reach out and grab him or something...

"Leilani," he said in a tone a little bit higher than any self-respecting male's voice should've been, and he held the cloth out to the grass-type as she trundled over. "Wet this in the lake, porfa," he asked after clearing his throat. There was no way he'd go anywhere near the water's edge at night. No way. Leilani had no problems, of course, so she obediently took the cloth in her mouth and bounded over, dropping it into the water before dunking her head in to retrieve it, then bounded back with the cloth and her face dripping profusely. "Gracias mi amor bonita," he said as he took the cloth from her gingerly. He folded it in half and wrung it out a bit so it wasn't dripping quite so much, then gently slipped his fingers under her arm. "Here," he said softly, pulling it over very gently before using both hands to lay the cold, wet cloth (even more gently) over the wound on her arm. "It's easier to position it with two hands. Try not to move too much, you'll just keep hurting yourself." Arceus, why were girls so effing stubborn?
PostPosted: Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:14 pm

She watched with a slight confusion as he pulled the cloth away from her, a feeling that became more pronounced with his following tone of voice. Nothing appealed to her more than the thought of jumping up and retrieving the washcloth to complete the task for herself, but Inigo was right: She would only hurt herself more if she moved about in her current state. So, albeit reluctantly, she returned to a more comfortable position, laying her arm in her lap and locking her gaze on the nearby dancing embers. Arceus, why did she have to be so helpless... Who invented injuries in the first place? They were stupid things.

Leilani returned with the soaked cloth, and as Aila made the beginnings of motions towards retrieving it, Inigo instead took charge of the thing. "Ah, you don't have to..." But he already was. And for what? Was there something he wanted from her? What had she done to deserve such kindness, and from a veritable strange no less? Why did he invest so much in her comfort and well-being? Slowly taking prominence over these thoughts, though, was the soothing chill of the cloth on her arm, and she couldn't help but feel an immense gratitude. "...Thank you."

In the face of her half-protest he merely shook his head. She would not be allowed to try and do everything for herself as long as he was here, that way she wouldn't keep hurting herself. At least she wasn't being quite so stubborn now. "De nada. Ah, you're welcome," he corrected in English, gently holding the wet cloth in place, then asked after a pause, "is that any better?" He hoped so, but she did look a bit more relaxed now so he assumed that it helped at least a little bit.

A sudden thought struck him, however, and one eyebrow raised in mild confusion but mostly curiosity. "Are you going to stay out here all by yourself like this?" How in the world did she expect to camp when she could barely move? It wasn't like she was getting much help from her pokemon. If he was hurt, Leilani would want to do everything. Not that the poor thing would have a clue what to do, but she'd at least try to do anything and everything.

She lay the fingers of her right hand over those of her left, shuddering slightly when the contact failed to register. "Yes," she answered nonetheless. It was at least true that the pain was subsiding. Hopefully feeling would return from keeping her arm very still... That did raise the question of how she would manage for the night, but-- oh, it seemed Inigo had that same question.

"I'll get by," she said, her tone betraying a slight uncertainty. "Pitre's just grumpy because he can't access the internet out here, but he'll help if I ask." The Metagross didn't as much as spare her a glance. He wasn't grumpy. He was deeply and genuinely upset. "Fleur could help me as well, I think," she moved her right hand to her hip, to the pokeballs concealed below the loose folds of her blouse. The Venusaur would probably be more interested in the forest than in assisting her trainer, but she could be reigned in... right?

He frowned when she shuddered a bit, but attributed it to the pain in her arm. Why would it be anything else? When she mentioned her two pokemon, Inigo couldn't help but notice that Pitre looked far from helpful, and he didn't know what Fleur was but he didn't know how helpful pokemon could really be in this situation. What she seemed to need more than that was just an extra set of hands. "Are you sure..?" She certainly didn't sound sure, that much was obvious. There hadn't been much assurance about securing help from her own pokemon - or at least he hadn't noticed any, but that could just have been selective hearing - so that made him more uneasy about the situation. "I could stay and help out if you wanted," he offered. His house wasn't too far anyway, he could run and get something if they really needed anything, and he really did not feel comfortable leaving an injured girl out alone in the forest to fend for herself with semi-helpful pokemon.
