Ardeur Esprit || "Phénix Coeur"
Ardeur watched Rosaline from across the room. He had seen her training for the past three days, and had meant to ask her to join him in the arena as an ally, but had not had the chance. Since she would be gone in a few minutes, and he might not get to talk to her again before the Games, he took a deep breath and walked over to her.
He cleared his throat, then spoke. "I just wanted to say, good luck. I hope you do well--no, I know you will. You have a good chance of getting a high score. You're quite powerful." The scent of the rose in her hair caught his attention, and he smiled at her. "You should join me in the arena. We'd be a formidable team. Might even win, who knows? Unless you kill me in my sleep," he purred jestingly, eyes narrowed slightly with amusement, making light of the dire situation. It was his way of trying to relieve some of the stifling pressure in the air.

Cendre Vol
Cendre stood in the shadows, not invisible, but hardly easy to see. She didn't even need to use her powers; her dark clothing and hair, typical of one from the Seam, made her nearly invisible with her head bowed so her white skin did not show. She listened to her brother speak to Rosaline, and smiled to herself, though her hands shook with fear even as she took a slight pleasure in his interest in the girl. She might be useful, but it would still be best to hide. She knew she could not trust anyone.

Rosaline

Rosaline chuckled Phenix's jest. "Thank you for your compliments, I'm sure you will do quite well also." Rosaline let more of the roses sweet sent fill the air. She was eager to see how well it worked. If all went well she may try to bring it into the arena, at least in her hair. "I suppose we could make an impressive team," Rosaline paused for a moment before finishing her sentence, " I accept your proposal." As Rosaline uttered these words Hauss came out of the Game Maker's room looking quite sweaty. "Looks like I'm up next," Rosaline smiled as she turned and walked into the room. Now was when her nerves started to nag at her. It appeared that none of the Game Makers were really paying much attention. Rosaline let the odor from the rose in her hair flood the room, demanding complete attention. She was already wearing a leotard under her normal clothes, and once she had chalked up her hands she lept onto the high beams, gracefully and with ease. Rosaline did back bend over back bend, contorting her body. Then she jumped off the bar and landed softly on her feet. She had the Game Maker's attention now. What man wouldn't pay attention to a woman in a leotard, they were all pigs. Next Rosaline walked to the nearest plant, which happened to be a rose similar to the one in her hair. She willed the plant grow, embracing her, silently hiding her from view. Rosaline then willed the rose bush to lash out at the dummies provided for her, slicing them deeply with their thorns. She exited from her crimson fort, cartwheeling to the nearest balance beam. Rosaline jumped up onto it, and then from beam to beam across the room. Her movements were precise and quick, however on one of her jumps she missed the beam by a fraction of an inch and had to catch herself by wrapping her arms around the beam, like a monkey. When she was done jumping around Rosaline slipped back into her dress, and as a parting gesture, she picked up a dagger and chucked it at a dummy, hitting it just inches to the right of the heart.

Ardeur Esprit || "Phénix Coeur"
When Rosaline walked back into the room, looking pretty pleased with herself, Ardeur swallowed dryly once more. Breathing deeply, he walked out into the training room where the Game Makers were waiting, watching the door where Rosaline had disappeared sadly. He wondered distantly what she had done, and made a mental note to ask her later, if he had the chance.
Since there was no fire present in the room, he began by demonstrating how easily he could make one. He picked up a simple knife, not the usual steel used, and an uneven piece of flint, and easily struck a few sparks. He caught those sparks in the air, and they blossomed into a bright ball of flame. Once it was established, he replaced the flint and steel and turned his attention to the fire.
The flame began as a small thing, but under his influence, it grew larger and larger until it reached from floor to ceiling, twenty feet across, huge and powerful. The light and heat from it were very intense, enough to catch their attention, he hoped. He turned the flame many colors: first black, then fading to a deep blood red, then white-hot. Finally, he reduced it to a thin, see-through golden sheet, just two feet in front of their table. He picked up a scythe, and walked to where the sheet was between him and the Game Makers. Through it, his image danced, with strange and terrifying shadows thrown out behind him as he attacked a few dummies, heading quickly and fluidly from one to the next. The attacks were not terribly fast, as usual, but they moved well into one another. He lit the blade on fire, as he had his first day of practice, and the deep red flames scored arcs through the air. When he began to tire, he ran straight at the screen, leapt at it, and slashed his blade through it in a great arc, so it came down and was embedded in the floor. The golden wall of flame broke apart into thousands of embers, and, as they cooled, ash rained from the sky, falling down on him.
Breathing hard, he left the scythe in the floor, stood, and walked out once more, his eyes alight with flames.

Cendre Vol
As Ardeur returned to the room, Cendre looked up at him. Eyes wide, she took a deep breath, and faded utterly from sight. She slipped through the closing door before it shut, so that the judges would not know she was there, and smiled slightly at the cleverness of her plan. She walked with now silent feet, after much practice, and touched a blade on the table. It disppeared with her, just like her clothes always did. She'd been practicing extending her powers to affect small objects as she touched them.
Picking up the knife, she crept around behind the Game Makers. They had looked slightly frazzled after whatever Ardeur had done, but now they were watching to door boredly. One of them called out for her to come in, and she smiled slightly at their confusion. She walked up behind the head Game Maker and put her plan into action. She concentrated and slipped the blade in front of the man's neck. Slowly, she began to press into his skin, making no noise. He instantly recognized the pressure, and inhaled quickly. He spoke, then: "Stop that now! I'm warning you. Knock it off."
She laughed sarcastically, pressed until she felt the skin break, and then released him, dodging quickly backwards so that none of them could catch her. She ran to the far side of the room, her breath still silent as it moved in and out of her lungs. When she was there, she turned to see them all on their feet, and the head Game Maker with a cloth pressed to his throat. She called out to them, "Hey, you want to punish me? I'm right over here!" For a moment, she allowed herself to turn all grey, like ash, transparent and strange. Then she dodged off to her right, fading from view as she moved. As soon as she was totally invisible, she stopped moving that way and went straight at them instead. As they ran towards where they thought she was, she went to the table and got to work.
With the knife, she carved easily and neatly into the table at which the Game Makers had sat. They were large and blatant, cutting through the carefully arranged papers they had there with the other contenstants' scores on them. Frowning angrily at the injustice of it all, she spelled out her message for them to see: CENDRE VOL: 10.0
When she had finished, she slid the blade across the palm of her hand, and let the blood spread out across her fingers. When it coated her hand, she put the bloody handpring right over her name. Striding easily towards the door, she threw the knife into the crowd, where it whistled just between two of their heads--she missed on purpose--and walked out during the confusion.

CAESAR
================

With the scores from the assessments announced, it was finally the night of the interviews. Dreaded by the tributes, but relished by the Capitol, Caesar would question them, trying to make them feel more at ease, and they would learn more about their personal lives.
All of the distrcts' interviews had been completed except the very last two, Distrct Eleven and District Twelve. The four remaining tributes sat, awaiting their turn, some bored and some nervous, when Caesar finally reached them.
"Let us begin with the District Eleven tributes by speaking to the fair Rosaline Everdeen. Come, miss, and we'll talk a while." He tried to sound relaxed and friendly, non-threatening, so that the girl would not be afraid of the crowd. She didn't look too weak, though, so he figured he was worrying over nothing.

Rosaline rose eagerly, an award winning smile stretched across her face. She was determined to win the crowd over. The blue rose in her hair did not match her pink dress, but was brought out because of it. This rose, like the one she wore during training, was a hybrid designed to release an odor that would ensnare the male mind. Rosaline's goal was to make Caesar her pet in the interview. Rosaline spoke as she walked up onto the platform and to Caesar, taking her seat, "Hello Caesar, I've been dying to finally meet you, and the Capitol audience," Rosaline smiled at the viewers, feigning happiness and adoration.

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Rosaline. I must say, you look lovely." Caesar felt a strange pull on his mind as the scent of the rose hit him, making him feel slightly attracted to the girl, though she was younger than he by some years, and a tribute nonetheless. He shook his head to clear it and went back to the interview. "So, tell us a bit about your district, and your family. We'd all like to see the girl you were before you came here."

"Oh well where do I start," Rosaline chuckled as she remembered life at home. For a moment sadness flooded her mind, for her life would never be the same because of the games. "I suppose with my family. There's five of us all together. My mom and dad, Me, Lily, and Timmy. Me being the oldest, and Timmy the youngest." Rosaline's voice showed no hint of the bitter thoughts running through her mind."

"Ooh, siblings; dangerous." Caesar laughed slightly, smiling at the girl. She was a brave one, for sure. Not at all like that boy from eight, who had spoken so terribly morosely. Horrible... He blinked and the memory of that terrible interview faded. "So, what do you think you miss most about home? Not the siblings, I'm guessing," he jested once more, keeping the audience happy and entertained. 'She seems to be quite good under the pressure, this one. Not bad, not bad at all.'

Rosaline smile broadened. "Actually I miss my family, very much. I would have to say I'm closest to little Timmy, though he wouldn't want me calling him little." Rosaline paused for a moment, deep in thought. " My family is what I miss the most, and I will be missing them throughout the entire games, all the way up to the end." She smiled as she said this, which would deter any notions of her losing the games from the audience. Rosaline herself was nowhere near as confident as she was acting, in fact, she was questioning if she would even survive the first day.

"So loyal, so loving. That's sweet, Rosaline. Really sweet. I'm sure your family is awaiting your return from the arena anxiously." Caesar smield at the girl encouragingly. She didn't have all the odds against her; in fact she had a chance of making it near the end. Winning? Perhaps, if the circumstances were right. The arena would make a large difference, of course... But, he was lost in thought again. He stopped himself yet again and continued the interview.
"So, I understand that you wouldn't want to give too much of your secretive plans to win away here, but tell me: do you think you can win? And why?" He always loved this question; it was interesting to see which tributes predicted their own paths accurately, and which failed miserably, dying in the first bloddy battle.

"Oh I think it's a definite possibility, but then again every tribute has a possibility of winning. If I were to win it would probably be because of some unlikely turn of events in my favor," Rosaline chuckled. "Luckily those types of things happen a lot in the games." As Rosaline finished her last sentence the buzzer signaling that it was time to move on to the tributes from District 12. Rosaline rose from her seat and gave Caesar a passing smile as she gracefully left the stage.

"Thank you, Rosaline," Caesar smiled broadly as he spoke. "Next up is the male tribute from District twelve, Pheniz Coeur!" Caesar gestured to the tribute dressed in a fiery suit. "Come one up!" As Rosaline left the stage Caesar noticed that the strange feeling that had come over him was gone. 'Must have been my imagination,' He thought to himself as he waited for the next tribute to arrive and be seated.

Ardeur Esprit || "Phénix Coeur"
Ardeur stirred when Caesar spoke his "name," remembering that was who he was for the moment, and took his seat across from the man. He did not speek in greeting; he only nodded curtly in his direction. His face was passive, completely blank, with no expression discernable in any of his features. He would not reveal himself here. "His" life was basically unknown to him; he was not the boy he claimed to be. He did not let himself swallow in fear or with worry; he simply endured, making no movement, his chest hardly rising and falling with his breaths.
