His anger rose when Champagne touched him, wanting to break free. The Tenma inside him was screaming, while the outside was silent. He allowed himself to be curled around, and as his eyes closed for an empty sleep the inner Tenma woke with a screaming, blind rage. And yet he didn't show it.
And then everything was silent. Everything was finished. He was asleep. Both parts of him. And as he slept he dreamt, dreamt of the mate he knew he needed to leave, dreamt of her turning to him with a distant, fake smile. Dreamt of small bundles of fur. And as he dreamt he wondered if this could be reality.
Then, it started to twist...

"EEP!" When Tenma fell asleep, he was still sitting. Unfortunatly, he fell over on Champagne and she let out a squeak as she was flattened. Mumbling obcenities and picking herself out from under her mate, she couldn't help but smile. He needed sleep. His mind... She knew it had to be so stressed. Poor Tenma... It hurt the vixens heart to watch him go through this... it hurt worse that she couldn't help this time...
Her fur had finally dried, but her mates was still wet since he had been out longer than she. Champagne was tired herself. She tamed the fire until it was merely burning embers, draped her body across Tenma's, and licked his fur dry until she herself fell asleep.

She was there, Champagne. And he loved her. He knew this, even if he was awkward or was strange and quiet. His Sparkles. In his dream, he approached her. She smiled at him, tail flicking aside. His heart stopped, eyes widening.
BCR's.
Their BCR's.
He wanted a family with her, in their tribe. He wanted to be with her. He wanted to give whatever she wanted to be happy. And as he saw the kids his heart leapt.
Then, the dream became black. Then, a hole appeared, and they vanished. No! He didn't want them to go! He didn't! He didn't want to be this man anymore! A man that wasn't completely there! A man that wasn't there for her..
His eyes flew open, choking out a loud scream. "Champagne!"

Champagne dreamed of sunny skies, fields of flowers, and her home. She dreamed of her siblings, her friends, her parents. It was such a happy dream... But she still felt sad. Everything she wanted was right there in front of her... except...
Tenma screamed. The vixen flew off her mate, who was suddenly wide awake and freaking out.
...Awake!!!
"Tenma!!! Tenma, darling, sweetheart! Are you ok? I'm here, I'm right here!" She scrambled to push herself under his chin so he could hold her in his paws. "Tenma Tenma Tenma... I was so worried!"

He was going to respond, but the back of his head felt a sharp pain. His head twitched violently away from Champagne, nails digging into the ground briefly. When the pain subsided his head felt....empty. As if that weight wasn't there anymore. Was that how Champagne felt? Without the weight?
Was it gone?
Finally, he realized his mate had been worried and was still worried. His eyes flicked to hers, purple eyes blinking briefly before he nuzzled into her, wrapping his tail around her. "Thank you." Was all he managed to say. She hadn't left him. She hadn't run away. Why? Why was she so very patient?
"I can't feel it anymore."

Huh? Can't feel... Champagne's eyes flew open wide. "A-are you sure? B-but... How?" This was such wonderful news, if the... whatever it was that did that to Tenma was gone, if meant so much! He could feel normal, stop trying to 'save' her from him, which really drove her bonkers because nothing could keep her from him, not even him. But... Deep down, the vixen suddenly felt horrible. If he was cured, free, he did it himself. She couldn't... didn't save him... What kind of mate was she, if she wasn't able to do anything useful for him?
Champagne shook her head slightly. How selfish. So what if she wasn't the hero, Tenma was ok now! Everything was ok now... but... a sudden thought crossed her mind, and she felt horrible all over again. What if they had kits, and one was the same way? She'd be the mother who couldn't even save her own kit... Maybe... maybe it was Tenma who was better off without her?
Either way, right now she was still just so happy for Tenma! Fighting back tears from her own stupid insecurities, she threw her paws around his neck and hugged him tightly.

What did it? As she threw his arms around her he numbly touched her back.
"I had a nightmare." He answered, ears going back. "We had kids." This wasn't the bad part. "But.. you vanished and so did the kids. I couldn't stop it."
He pushed her away lightly, staring at her firmly. "I don't want to be the man that can't save you because of my problem. I want to protect you, and our future kids. It's you, Champagne. You made it go away."
(( Cue sappy music, now. ))

Well that did it. There was nothing stopping her tears now, though they were of happiness. Happiness that he was ok, happiness that she somehow still helped him, happiness that she was a good mate to him after all, happiness that he was thinking of kits, too.
The man that can't save her... "Tenma, do you remember what you left to do earlier? Before you spaced? You went out to hunt for me. When I found you out there, you were so far gone... but when I tried to get you to come back to the den with me you ran off... and you came back with a rabbit!" She pointed to what was left of fur and bones. "Even in your daze you took care of me~" Smiling, tears still soaking her fur, Champagne suddenly leaned in and kissed him. "You're so wonderful, my love..."

She was crying?! He leaned closer, head tilting to see her face. Why? He shook his head at the question, he never remembered what happened.
"I did what?" His eyes widened, shocked by her words. He had hunted for her? Even in that state? He let out a muffled gasp as she kissed him, eyes narrowing slightly when she pulled away. "I love you." He said firmly, pulling her closer, stealing another kiss, and then another. She was his. He wasn't becoming that thing again. And if anyone tried to steal her from him, even his "blank" self, he'd break them. This awkward, socially confused male would steal her back from anyone that tried to take her away.

Champagne felt all bubbly inside, the way only he could make her feel. "I love you, too." She somehow managed to get out between kisses, unable to stop the giggles. If only she could freeze this moment, put life on pause, drink in this joy forever... but... why did it have to be this moment? After all, nothing stood in the way of their forever, now. Nothing was going to worry them or trouble them anymore.
Though they still had responsibilities that had become forgotten when Tenma wandered. Oops.
Reluctantly, Champagne pulled away from her mate, putting her head down so she could catch the breath he'd stolen and get her thoughts straight. "We... we should really get some more sleep. It isn't day yet, and we can't forget the tribe..." Oh, how she wished she could spend forever alone with him!

A low grumble escaped him when she mentioned the tribe. Oh, he loved it alright, it just was still new to him. He saw his two sisters daily when before he hadn't seen them in years. His barely older sister was the Elder and it made him sit back and wonder how he had even gotten into this position.
Sleep sounded good. They should sleep and then go back to gathering what they needed for the tribe. He knew Kithara would be fretting when they returned, as usual, also Amy. He knew Kithara's mate would also warn them to be safer, as she always did.
"Yes, sleep." With this, he pulled her closer, nested his head into her neck, and sighed.

Smiling happily, the vixen curled her body around Tenma's and let out a sigh of her own. The storm outside had seemed to calm down some, and Champagne was still exhausted from the days drama. Not surprisingly, it took no time at all for her to drift off to sleep...
...and awake to the chirping of songbirds outside the cave, signaling the full passing of the storm and the start of a new day. Oi.

When he woke once more he blinked at the sun that peered into their cave. Today was the start of his first day as himself. Just him. There was no other being in his head, there was no weight. He was just himself.
Himself. Now he could be with his mate, just himself, and give her everything she deserved. Children, a calm family, or maybe a hyper one, even if he would be shocked by it and probably awkward. He wanted to give her everything she could ever want.
"Good morning."

Champagne jumped at the sudden voice of her mate, deep and right by her ear. Then she laughed at herself, of course! "Haha, good morning to you, too! Sorry, I must have been concentrating too much on those birds~" She got up and stretched every muscle, then licked her mate between the ears.
"You want to hunt with me?" She wasn't giving him the chance to do all the work, this time! He may be the man in the relationship, but Champagne's paws were itching to catch one of them noisy tweeters.

Tenma nodded, stretching slowly and glancing at his mate, licking her cheek. "What do you want?" He asked, helping her up. The awkward male glanced up at the birds, blinking as they chirped at him.
Today was his new day! He'd make it worth everything he had gone through. He turned to look at Champagne, silently checking her for bruises, cuts, or anything she could have gotten from the storm last night. She seemed fine.
