The 'vee retreated further into the darkness of the makeshift hidey-hole. It didn't recognize this man, but his whole countenance was just generally worrying.
Lucas, meanwhile, felt vaguely something akin to a certain Growlithe he knew when he was suddenly pulled in and instructed to sit, but he did so regardless. "Wha-- Yeah, that's all I... We talked about the raid, and that Galactic was there, and... yeah." It wasn't much, but wasn't this the first time he had actually recovered a memory from a lapse? That alone was something to be excited about.

His apparent confusion managed to bring her back to reality. Even if the reasons for his suddenly remembering things from memory lapses wasn't something she was happy about at all, the fact that he could remember and seemed excited about it - or maybe he was just nervous about Galactic? - she should be happy for him. A smile formed on her face, though whether she wholly meant it or not, even she wasn't sure yet, and she placed her free hand on his shoulder. "I'm glad you remember," she said earnestly, "do you remember anything else? From other memory lapses?" Probably not too much yet.
Her expression faded to a more level one, however, as she nodded. "Yeah, Galactic was at the raid. Both of them," she added, pursing her lips at the memory. "They were at the PokeBall when I was there, and at the volcano the other day." This... this was not good. Ugh, it made her uneasy to think of, so she tried to shove the feelings aside by scratching the little 'vee behind the ears. Having a little ball of fur in your sweater felt.. incredibly weird.

"Ah, no... wait, no, yeah." Bits and pieces from the most random moments, but memories nonetheless. "I used to lead a lot of training exercises. I mean, I knew that before, but I didn't know I did so many, and teaching things like, I dunno, proper weapon maintenance--" Arceus, he remembered weapon maintenance! He remembered, not just his hands! It was veritably thrilling.
"Yes, see, I knew that!" He raised an indicatory finger as if making a smart point. "I don't think I did a couple days ago, though. But I know it now and--" Ahh, he was being horribly insensitive, wasn't he? He took a breath to calm himself and nodded. "I told you it's fine, right?" Hah, he had said that and he remembered it! "Well... it's true. You've got nothing to worry about. I'll see to that personally."
A certain little ball of fur appreciated the decrease in the man's volume and emerged to her previous position, watching the stranger from the safety of Claire's jacket.

Her smile widened into a grin as she listened to him, unable to keep herself from chuckling. It was good he was more excited than anything else. "Slow down, Lucas, I can barely keep up with you. You're jumping all over the place," said with more pets to the little furball in her jacket. "What's fine? Remind me, I forgot. Since you remember a bunch of stuff now, anyway," she encouraged, still grinning. Knowing about Galactic being around Kodo was still terrifying, but it was a sort of.. well, not an immediate threat. Especially with her appearance so different than it had been while she was in Galactic.

It was amazing. Where he expected to draw a blank, there was actually information to fill it. He never realized how much he took things like that for granted. "I mean, there's nothing to worry about, you know? Like, how Galactic's appearance on the mission was in Johto, and at the PokeBall, that could have been a coincidence, so-- Ah, do you know what I'm saying? It's hard to concentrate right now." He shook his head briefly in an effort to clear his thoughts. Memories were great, but his mind was seriously cluttered with the things. One thing was still bothering him, though.
"...When did you even get an Eevee?"

An amused 'hm' escaped her as he spoke, but the situation was still disconcerting. "I hope it's just a coincidence. Either way we're safe as long as we're in here. We'll be fine," she reassured him, as well as herself. She didn't want to be cooped up in the base forever though... Ah.
"Um," she started, eyebrows raising as she looked down at the Eevee in her hoodie. "About five minutes ago. I think it got in through the air vent by the floor and made a mess," she explained with a sigh, ruefully petting the fluffy paper shredder. "It took ages to coax it out from under my bed, and then it hid in Len's stack of books, then to the door. I'm pretty sure it was afraid, but I'm not sure why.. I don't know where it came from either, besides the vent." And she had no idea what to do with it, especially if it was going to be a book-chewer.

He nodded, overcome by some great confidence. It was so strange - a few months ago, the mere thought of the mention of Galactic had sent him to Rocket's doorstep in search of refuge. Now he almost felt like writing them an invitation to challenge them directly. Well, he probably wouldn't have gone quite that far, but the feeling remained.
The Eevee looked up as Claire looked down, seeming to realize that they were talking about it, and Lucas watched it. "Through the vent? That's weird." He studied it's face momentarily yet intently, brow slightly furrowed in thought.

She couldn't help but smile - a content, relieved expression - at the fact he wasn't freaking out about it. She was totally sure he would've freaked out or something, but he wasn't. It made things so much easier.
"Isn't it?" She replied, brows knitted as she stroked the fluffy thing's head more. "I don't know if I've ever seen it anywhere before, so I don't think it belongs to anyone... but I have no idea where it came from. The labs maybe?" She'd heard several stories of pokemon escaping from the labs. They really should have better security measures in place to prevent that. ...maybe. Then nobody would come back to their room to find it in shreds because of adorable little paper shredders.

The fluffy little thing became more alert at mention of the labs, pulling away from Claire's hand and curling up in the safe darkness of her sweater. Lucas reached a hand - or rather, extended his fingers in the thought of reaching his hand - when the pokemon retreated, visibly shaken.
"Do you think you'll keep it...?"

Her lips parted slightly as it tried to hide in her sweater when she'd mentioned the labs - so that was where the poor thing came from. She frowned a bit, unzipping the jacket slightly to gently stroke the fluffy 'vee's head. "Nobody's taking you back there, don't worry," she murmured to it. Poor thing.
Then something clicked, and all at once she knew who it reminded her of.
His question required less thought because of this realization. "No, I won't," she said, then looked up at him and added after a thoughtful pause, "would you like it?" Honestly she would feel much better if he took it - its hesitance and timid behavior reminded her of him, in a small way at least. More specifically, the hesitance he had when they spoke of unpleasant things several nights ago.

"Vui..." It was a relief to hear, but the threat remained, and the Eevee recoiled slightly from the touch.
He looked up suddenly with an expression of mild distress when Claire voiced her lack of an intent to keep it. The Eevee reminded him of someone as well, though not of himself, and something within him was nearly fearful of the idea of discarding the little normal-type. "Ah, well..." He rubbed at his neck, considering it all. "I mean, but it really seems to like you..."

The expression on his face was enough - it was obvious the little pokemon reminded him of someone too, and Claire had a pretty good idea of exactly who it was. But she just smiled at his half-hearted reply, shaking her head. "No, I want you to keep it. Alright?" Alright, it was decided. Even if Lucas didn't think so yet.
Her gaze softened and focused on the 'vee again as she unzipped the jacket the rest of the way - carefully, of course - and gently picked it up. "Come here, you're safe. It's okay." Note to self: Never mention the labs while in the company of this particular Eevee.

"Ah..." If she was just going to get rid of it otherwise, he didn't really have any choice. "I mean, I guess I can, yeah..." He watched her lift the little 'vee - it really was tiny, even compared against other Eevee he had seen - as it made quiet "vrr" sounds, not wanting to leave its sanctuary quite yet. Lucas simultaneously reached and drew back his hands. An innate part of him wanted to comfort the timid creature, but he withheld.

If Lucas had insisted that he wouldn't take it (which she knew he'd do no such thing), she would have kept it. Knowing him, however, straight-out telling him she wouldn't and that it was his was a good option. She let the little fluffball stay beneath one side of her jacket if it so wished, but the article of clothing was fully unzipped. One hand continued petting it, while the other gently reached over to hold Lucas's wrist, and slowly pulled his hand over her lap so it was near the little Eevee. "It's alright," she said gently, hoping it wouldn't be scared and run from Lucas. Arceus, that'd probably make him feel awful.. ...crap. Hopefully it didn't.

He was mildly surprised when Claire took hold his wrist, bringing his hand near the Eevee. He scarcely realized he was holding his breath, watching for the pokemon's reaction with near unblinking eyes. He deflated slightly when it recoiled from his approach, backing into the crook of Claire's arm. He sighed, but he kept heart. Patience was key in this sort of matter.
