Crow bit back a small 'eep!" of surprise - she hadn't been expecting to find people. Well, she reflected, she hadn't expected to find anything, really. People were a bit of a bonus.
"Heya," she said politely, edging her way into the little clearing and careful to avoid the little plants in the fresh-turned soil. She grinned and stuck out a hand amiably to the pretty woman. "My name's Crow, pleased to meet you."
Taking a brief break in her drawing, Lenore glanced around idly for Crow. When she realized the teen was no where in sight, she wandered over towards the forest-in-miniature and ducked inside it.
"Mum, where'd you - oh. Hi, random people," she said, waving at the new ones in cautious interest.

"Ah, hi there! I'm Elle, and this is...Kudzu!" She paused briefly as Lenore wandered into the clearing, giving the pair a nod. Kudzu watched them with wide, pale eyes...one hand reaching forward out of curiosity toward Lenore.
"Also a pleasure. We were just doing some planting! Our last little rose, free at last. Isn't that right, Kudzu?" Bouncing the heavy boy once on her hip, Elle smiled down at the babe. The boy glanced up at the mention of his name, gaze falling a moment later to the miniature rose bush. Levi had bought it for Elle, a few months back...there were no blooms on it yet, but there would be soon!
Nodding in reflex, though he didn't really understand what he was agreeing too, Kudzu shed a few bright green leaves. Lenore had leaves too...didn't she? Only hers looked different! He reached for her feathers again, trusting and silent.
"Are we disturbing you? I don't mean to interrupt.."

"Pleased to meet you," Len said, waving again. Spotting what Kudzu was going for, Len discreetly folded her sharp wings back to keep him from harm. After a beat, she plucked an already loose razor feather off and watched it dull before giving it to the small boy.
"Here you go, Kudzu," she said kindly. "Nice n' shiny, and it won't slice you open." Her words might've been a bit indelicate, but at least it was the truth.
Crow looked at the little plants interestedly, nodding.
"Hey, cool," she said, kneeling down to look at the rose plant. "My plants kinda...yeah. Don't last long." Laughing at her plant care ineptitude, she jumped up again and waved a hand in dismissal at Elle's words.
"Naah, more like the other way 'round," she said easily. "I was just wandering, didn't mean to interrupt you guys." Glancing at Kudzu curiously, she looked back at Elle.
"How long've you had him? Are you guys new?"

Nodding, Elle set Kudzu down so he could play with his gift...mentally noting that the feathers were usually sharp. How odd! Kudzu, however, didn't think twice about it...and pondered the feather a moment longer before turning a smile up to Lenore. Absently, his hand closed upon one of his own fallen leaves, and he offered it up in trade.
"New enough! We've been around for a few months, but I have a house full of other younglings, so...we're not here much." Smiling, Elle bent slightly to ruffle Kudzu's verdant hair...happy he was getting along so well.
"It's amazing, how fast he grows. He always gets enough to eat, but I've noticed that the more I feed him, the bigger he gets! Not in a traditional sense..." Elle patted her midrift idly, laughing. "I mean, all over growth. Is that unusual, I wonder?"
Kudzu burbled, not thinking it unusual at all. People grew as big as conditions would allow, didn't they? Seemed natural to him.

Crow shrugged, looking down at Kudzu again.
"It's a bit odd, yeah," she said. "But then... these guys aren't exactly human, right? Len's a total beanpole and she eats everything in sight - " Lenore interjected here by blowing a raspberry, " - and she's taller than I am. Well, everyone's taller than I am, actually."
Squatting down to look at Kudzu curiously, her eyes flicked over his leafy hair and amethyst-like feet.
"Maybe it's the plant in him, makin' him grow so fast."
Smiling and curtsying for Kudzu, Lenore took the leaf and examined it in interest.
"Thanks, Kudzu," she said. Settling down on the ground next to him, she toyed with the leaf carefully and looked at him.
"You're half rock," she said, surprised.

Mouth opening in response to Lenore's observation, Kudzu lifted a foot for her to look at...and promptly unbalanced himself. Tipping backwards, onto his back, he managed to keep the one foot in the air for her inspection. Half rock indeed! Gorgeous amethyst facest glimmered in the dappled light, winking and shining. He showed her because that's what people usually wanted to see. Kudzu personally thought his hair was more fun.
Rolling a bit to the side, so he could see her better, Kudzu reached again for the wings. He'd never been cut, and didn't know 'sharp'...they were simply so pretty, he wanted to see what they felt like!
Elle didn't notice Kudzu's dangerous reach, too busy nodding. "You know, you might be right! Goodness. I suppose, for his sake, I shouldn't feed him more than normal, or he'll be a giant!"
Shaking her head with a smile, Elle found a place to sit as well. It was so nice here, for being indoors! Every house should have a room like this. "I've always been about this height...ah, I'm about as normal as Kudzu, I suppose! Is being short a detriment?" Asking curiously, not trying to be hurtful, Elle extended her natural empathy a bit to see if she was asking a rude question. It would be a shame to scare their new acquaintances away!

"No, it's not too bad, I guess," Crow said easily. She didn't mind questions about her height, she was around too many tall people all the time to really care about her short stature anymore. "I mean, my brother, Len and our friend Ethan tower over me. And yet they all cower in fear when I'm in a bad mood," she added with a good-natured cackle.
Lenore recoiled back in worry for the child's safety, feathers rattling a bit to ward him off.
"No no, sweets," she said. "Sharp, real sharp. It'd hurt."
She hadn't forgotten today to put the dulling barriers of air magic onto her wing's edges like she usually did. But she did forget once and awhile, and it wouldn't do to let Kudzu get the idea that they couldn't hurt him. Thinking quick of something to distract him, she grinned suddenly and reached her hand over a patch of shadow cast by the trees.
"Wanna see somethin' cool?" she asked, coaxing the shadow up off the ground. Tearing off a 'piece' of the shadow, she willed it into the form of a butterfly and made it flutter towards the little boy. "See? That's my magic. Neat, huh?"

Laughing with Crow, Elle nodded...all too familiar with what she meant. Short didn't mean meek, not by any means!
"Well, if you ever want to give them a real fright, I'm a brew master by trade. It wouldn't be too difficult to whip something up that would really turn the tables, even if just for a few minutes!" She'd used the recipe herself, usually when the cobwebs needed gathered, and the ceiling was just out of reach of her broom. Ah, practical application! "Do you have a trade or hobby you're fond of?" Drawing her knees up against her chest, comfortable in her spot, Elle gave the butterfly a glance and smiled at Lenore before turning her attention back to the conversation with Crow.
Kudzu didn't just glance at the butterfly...he watched Lenore's actions intently, and pushed to his hands and knees. It was beautiful! Starting towards it, wobbling a bit, he reached for the creation with one hand. "Ahhhhbu!" His smile blossomed suddenly, but his hand stopped just short of the shadow as though he didn't wish to harm it. Letting his hand drop again, smile unfading, Kudzu settled at Len's feet with a happy burble.
Elle glanced to the side again at Kudzu's motion, eyes wide. "Oh, I've never really seen him crawl! Lenore, he's quite taken with you! We should discuss your rates for babysitting!" Offering the girl a wink, Elle grinned. He was growing so fast!

Crow grinned wolfishly at Elle's offer, but shook her head.
"I'm scary enough as is," she said, laughing. "Demonic influence'll do that to a quiet gal like me."
She wiggled sharp clawed fingers and grinned wider, showing her fangs. Her always-slit pupils vanished to nothing, as though to further her joking point. "The boys are scared to death of my off-days anyway. Wouldn't want to traumatize them more!"
Thinking on Elle's question, Crow took time before answering.
"Well....I work as a ...a scientist, actually. I'm really good with that kind of stuff. Back home, I...was alone a lot. I taught myself science, got really into it, and then... well. I work with -" she hesitated, strangely self-conscious of herself, "-with Biomechanics. Living machines."
Blushing brightly, she fidgeted with a blade of grass before continuing.
"As for hobbies..." she trailed off, smiling sheepishly. "I study Alchemy, a bit. My father studied it too, I just kinda picked it up from him. Mostly just theory and stuff, I don't go on and make things. Except for Doll - she's like a...a homunculus."
She paused once more.
"I study World War II history, too," she added quickly, feeling for all the world like a gigantic nerd.
Lenore's eyes widened at Elle's words. Smiling down at Kudzu, she willed the butterfly to land on his head, pearly black wings fluttering.
"I'd do it for free, no problem," she told Elle. "He's a sweetie."

"Science? Interesting profession for someone that challenges the basic rules!" Laughing in good nature, Elle leaned forward to watch Crow's eyes change with appreciation. How unique!
She'd heard somewhat of living machines...hadn't the caretakers of one of Kudzu's other friends been so inclined? Nodding, she brightened at the mention of alchemy. "Ah, a lot of what I do is similar...though with natural ingredients instead of compounds! I know nothing of local wars, though...but I have an idea!"
Glancing at Kudzu, who was ignoring her in favor of Lenore and the butterfly, Elle pondered and smiled. "Well, I was serious about the baby sitting, if you were serious about the acceptance! But a trade is alawys good, keeps things in balance!" Smiling as Kudzu went crosseyed trying to stare straight up, Elle reached out to touch the boy's cheek fondly.
"What do you say to dinner? I love to cook, and we love company...all you have to do is say yes! Perhaps we can make it an evening, if you'd like...you invite a pair of friends from here, and I'll do the same? That should make..." doing the math silently, Elle ticked off on her fingers. Two for her and Kudzu, two for Lenore and Crow...and four more all together for the pairs they'd invite! "About eight or ten of us, give or take? I have no problem preparing for that many, and the way to the Villa is linked through Kudzu's room!"
Leaning back, all smiles at the idea of a dinner party, Elle looked from Len to Crow. "What do you think? Sound like fun?" Kudzu nodded, though he wasn't really part of the conversation, and lifted a hand to see if he could feel for the butterfly. Lots of fun!

Green_Eyes Rose's ear twitched at the sound of the stranger's voice and the baby twisted in her stroller to face the speaker, struggling against the buckle that held her in place. Her efforts were useless, but that wasn't about to stop her from trying. "Hello," Green greeted the other woman with a wave of her hand, giggling when her daughter continued to fight her restraints. She manouvered the strolled so that it was facing the other woman and rolled it in her direction. Finally! Rose let out a thankful sigh and relaxed back into the stroller, pleased that she could see the stranger. Her gaze landed upon the little bat boy who stood at a distance and giggled a hello. She liked people! "My name's Green," Green was saying as she stopped the stroller in front of the bench and settled down onto it, beside Kanilea. Aladon took a step towards the girl a little hesitantly looking her over from a distance before coming any closer. Finally, a person with reasonable sized ears, like his. Everyone else couldn’t hear anything. He pickup one of her ears ad let it flop back into place gently. A smile on his face. Paying more attention to Green than the children Kani continued, “I’m Kanilea, and this is Aladon,” Motioning but not looking at the bat boy. “Care for a piece?” she offered green a piece of cinnamon from the bag lying next to her, without waiting for an answer she put a piece in Greens hand and continued, “Are you from around here?”

"Well, heh, it gets the bills paid an' stuff like that," Crow said easily. Infinitely glad Elle didn't think she was a nerd, Crow nodded eagerly at the prospect of dinner. Out of a family of five, not a one could cook outside of microwaving things.
No wonder they were all so leanly built.
"It's up to you, Len...." she said, though there was a begging look on her face. Food! Actual food, for the love of god!
Len nodded fervently.
"I'd like to," she said firmly. Seeing where Kudzu's hand went, she willed the butterfly to flutter its wings at his fingers. She'd found shadows to have the strangest of feelings - like silken, cool smoke. If smoke could have a texture, that is...
Crow had to bite back a cheer. She liked Elle a lot already, and the prospect of food that didn't come by delivery was heaven-sent.
"Julian an' Ethan'd love to come as well," she said. "Any time you could have us over, that'd be great."

Rose had watched the bat boy grow closer with a wary eye. He behaved the strangest out of all the people she'd met so far. She watched him, interestedly, as he picked up her and let it fall back into place. A lone giggle slipped past her lips.
The bones and muscles in her ears hadn't developed enough yet for her to have very much control over them. For the most part, they'd gone unnoticed until now.
It was wonderful to know that they actually did something. Even if that something was merely a flop.
The bunny child cooed and reached out to touch Aladon's ears in return.
"Pleased to meet you, Kanilea," Green smiled and accepted the piece of cake somewhat excitedly. It had been awhile since she'd tasted anything that smelled so good.
"This is Rose," she smiled fondly down at the babe in the stroller and took a bite out of the cake.
"Not initially," she answered after she'd swallowed, "I own a little farmhouse out in the country. You?"

Aladon was hesitant at first to let the rabbit touch him, but then thought better of it, ignoring the tickle that his very sensitive ears let him now something was coming for them, and let the hand approach.
“Rose that’s a very beautiful name, one of middles.” She took a little quick look at the stroller bound child.
“Oh well, not from around here either I suppose. I’m a country girl at heart too.” She laughed. “Farm house did you say? You don’t happen to have a cliché green thumb do you?”

She was liking this boy more and more by the second. Rose let out a squeal of pure delight when her hand finally made contact with one of Aladon's ears. Instinct told her to squeaze but the straps that bound her into the stroller wouldn't allow her to reach far enough. Frustrated, Rose stuck her tongue out with the effort of going that extra inch or two.
"Thank you," Green smiled at Kanilea and took another bite of the cake.
"The country is one of my favorite places to be. I wasn't raised on a farm, unfortunately," she said conversationally, "It was trips to my grandfather's old, crumbling house that made me fall in love. He had a green thumb and its not something I've inherited. The gardening has been left too, well, the gardner. One of my daughters likes to spend her time out there with him, though, you know, telling him what he's done wrong and where everything should go."
