Yuriko noded her head quickly taking Toto back to his stable and locking the door tight before she hurried back into the house breathing heavily ut quickly regained herself, getting ready to take the next orders.

"How did he get up there? What happened?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:25 pm

"I have no clue... I only know that this is the gentleman who wanted to take the vaulting lesson today. Give me a hand here, please..."

((Gotta go for tonight... I have already prepared this, hope you like it smile )

It took Amayas and Yurikos combined efforts to get Solice out of the wheelbarrow and onto the table in the common room that Amaya had prepared with a clean cotton sheet from the medical cabinet. Said cabinet was filled to burst with bandages, pill-bottles, herbs, ointments as well as surgical instruments, thread, and jars of gauze swabs. On the wall beside it hung a certificate from the University of Reykjavik in a simple wooden frame, spelling "Amaya Ingasdottir" and "Veterinary" in bold gilded letters.
Amaya quickly and thoroughly washed her hands in the nearby basin, rummaged through the cupboard, then turned back to Yuriko, holding out a small, lumpy canvas bag:
"All right, please wash your hands then take a fistfull of this..." She eyed the injured man, then her dwindling resources of the rare icelandic moss in the bag and sighed. "... make that two fistfull... and grind them to dust in the mortar. Add the contents of this..." She held up a small pot of lanoline-base for poultices. "And mix them thoroughly with twenty drops of that." She held up a vial of northern pine oil, then piled all the stuff into Yuriko's outstretched arms.

"I will assess the damage in the meantime." She turned to Solice after retrieving a bundle filled with surgical instruments and unrolling it on the side-table. Carefully, she cut away the shredded and bloody clothing with a pair of large, blunt-tipped scissors and hissed as the full extent of the injuries was revealed.

"Sweet Baldur! Who did that to you? And why did they leave you up on my barn?", she muttered under her breath while she gently removed the rest of the tattered undergarments except for the loincloth.

Deep incisions in both biceps... lacerations and abrasions on the hands... blunt trauma with haematoma and contusions on back and front of torso and lumbal aerea, also left shoulder girdle, both wrists and right knee... probably internal injuries, too. The tally went up to staggering heights in Amayas mind.

Yuriko washed her hands several times before taking the moss, from there she started to grind added the pine oil, counting each and every drop she looked over at the man her own questions running through her head. Once finished she handed the concoxion to Amaya.

"Thank you, please put it over there, we'll treat the blunt injuries with that, later."

Amaya pointed with her chin to the side-table while she was breaking the seal of a bottle of SSS -sterile saline solution- and screwed a spray nozzle on the top. She handed Yuriko the bottle, then gently positioned Solices left arm over a steel tray with the help of a rolled up towel, so that she could access the cut in his biceps. She selected a pair of tweezers and fished a gauze swap from another tray with a steel pincer.
"We'll irrigate the wound and cleanse it of any foreign matter, then bandage it. It would do him no good if I did stitches, that kind of cut better heals from the inside... besides..." She carefully removed the fibres that got trapped in the incision with the sharp tweezers, then motioned for Yuriko to rinse the wound with the solution and dabbed at it with the swab. "Repeat, please...." She threw the bloodied swab into the steel bin, then selected a fresh one... keeping an eye on Solice, who was still not moving, but breathing steadily.
"Just for the record... I'm threading a narrow path here... I'm no physician and worse, I not even have a license to practice as a vet in this country... ran the gauntlet with the red tape here and got treated like a leper. I may do first aid, but not more than that. If someone asks you, you have not helped me, heck, you were not even there... I don't want you to get in trouble, too", she said, grinning mirthlessly while she laid a layer of gauze on the cut, fixing it with two narrow slips of adhesive tape to keep the edges of the wound from diverging. "Hand me the bandage over there please, I'll wrap it up, then we'll repeat that with the other arm..."

Yuriko nodded placing the bowl down on the table and rushing for the bandages, handing them to her.

"Should I get some water? Perhaps make a meal for him once he wakes up? I am sure he'll be starving, perhaps some blood enriching food to help gain back what he has lost."

"Thats a splendid idea! I already wanted to ask you to boil some water to make a herbal brew for him... the herbs are in the bag with the green label over there..." she nodded in the direction while bandaging Solices arm. "But I will need your help in rinsing the other stab wound first, please. From then on, I can manage alone.", she said, fastening the bandage and gently lowering the arm back to the table before she focused her attention on the other wounded limb.

Solice, in a semi-consious state, began to hear voices. The crude version of morphine he had taken was starting to wear off, and he could feel the burning and stinging of all his wounds. He opened one of his eyes halfway, turning it towards Amaya.

Amaya was in the process of tieing the bandage on Solices right arm after cleansing the wound when she felt a change in his muscle tension. She looked into his face and saw that one eye had opened. Carefully, she laid the bandaged limb back on the table, then softly touched his uninjured shoulder. "Solice, can you hear me?"

He blinked slowly a couple of times, still unable to speak.

Amaya ran her hand gently to his solarplexus, putting the fingers of the other hand on it. Soon, she felt the familiar tingle in her fingertips as the Ki started to flow.
"Solice, I am going to check for internal injuries now... please blink if anything I do hurts you...", she said, then started to gently palpate some crucial pressure points on his chest and abdominal area, intently watching his reaction.

Yuriko quickly grabed the kettle filling it with water and set it on the burner. After that she moved around the kitchen getting meat, rice, and other hearty foods in hopes to bring back his blood count. She quickly and quietly went to her work, stoping to only bow to the man when he awoke.

"Is he alright? For the most part?"

Amaya tried to keep up her concentration, turning to Yuriko.
"I'm just trying to find out... please make the tea first, one half-spoonfull of herbs per cup of water..." She turned her attention back to Solice.

Solice squinted as she touched several areas, the tension in his arms becoming more taut. He did not blink. His mouth tried to form words and speak, but the only thing that came out were grunts.

Yuriko blinked a few times, filling up the cup and adding the herbs, she mixed it in with the tea and blew on it several times. She checked on her food thiking a stew would be best, the less chewing the better she thought. She handed the cup to Amaya bowing her head to her.

Amaya was relieved to find no further signs of internal damage, although several areas seemed sensitive to the touch. When Yuriko handed her the cup, she bowed her head in return. "Thank you very much.... if you are done cooking, could you make a bed for him near the fireplace? Thanks."
She uncorked a brown glass vial with a thick, strong smelling liquid in it and poured five drops of it into the tea, then set the cup down on the sidetable to cool down a bit more.
She leaned over Solice again. "Shhh... don't speak... take your time... I will give you something against the pain in a bit...".
After pulling the sidetable nearer, she wrapped her arm around the man's uninjured shoulder. She slowly pulled him up into a sitting position, resting his chin on her shoulder so that her hands were free to apply a layer of gauze to the bruised area above his kidney. With a wooden spatulum, she applied a thin layer of the poultice Yuriko had prepared on it, then topped it with another layer of gauze. "This will fell a bit cold... it will pull the excess heat out of the wound and help heal it.", she commented while wrapping a bandage around his waist to fix the compress in place.
"Do you think you can swallow the tea, now?"
