Syngey Having decided that she must have made a terrible mistake coming here, Bertie's mind was set on fleeing the situation when she caught the sound of another person approaching. Now she was stuck. She didn't want to seem rude, which is exactly what would happen if she just ran off without saying a word to the man who had just appeared. Obviously he had been running after the woman, but why? Bertie only hoped there was some normal explanation for all of this, and that the man hadn't done something to cause the woman to run away.
Attending to the matter of speaking to this stranger, Bertie took a deep breath and tried her best not to appear nervous as her small, wispy voice escaped her lips. The man seemed nice enough, so she would extend that hospitality to him as well.
Um, yes, well, that is perfectly alright. I was just wondering if I could receive a room for the night.
At least she was right in believing this was an inn. If there was a room, she would stay, but honestly she was kind of hoping there wouldn't be an opening. The thought of staying her made her a bit uncomfortable now. Although, it didn't seem as though the man would do anything mean to that woman. Perhaps there had just been misunderstanding.
Will that woman be alright? She appeared to be quite upset about something. Kris felt relieved that the woman still wanted to stay despite the circumstances. He would heave a sigh of relief but that might be considered rude.Yes, we have rooms available if you are interested. In fact, the only other current resident we have is the lady you just saw heading out for some air. If you would be interested, I will be happy to show you a room as well as give you a brief tour of the facility. Oh, my apologies, my name's Kris. I am the general manager of this establishment, the Darkseas Harbor Inn and Tavern. He offers a hand to you in greeting. As for the other lady, to be honest, I am not sure what came over her. I was showing her a tour of the place and when I took her to the room that was inhabited by the previous assistant manager, she...basically lost it. I have no idea why. Of course, this place has a history that goes back for some time before I took over and its possible that she and the Assistant Manager had some history of their own. I want to chase her and make sure she's alright but considering I've only just met her, I guess it's not really my place. The man's voice and mannerisms seem to be that of an intellectual type with an air of academia. He certainly didn't appear to be anyone dangerous and nothing in his actions or body language showed him to be untrustworthy.

D can hear Kris running after her and she knows he just wants to comfort her, to make sure she is okay, but she can't help but to run away from the memories. She continues to run, wherever her feet carry her. Once she reaches the ocean she stops and falls to the sand. She sits silently for several minutes while years of memories come flooding back into her head.
I used to work here... I used to live here... I am Nikki!
She sits with the revelation for a while, replaying the events of the past. She really hadn't been able to remember much from before her accident... bits and pieces here and there. She knew she had lived in the area before, has seen the beach and the garden around the inn. She had even seen the people that used to live there.
I guess that is why I was drawn here, why I've been having memories that aren't mine. The question is, how do I explain my actions?
D remains on the beach for some time, realizing she suddenly just ran out of the inn without explaining anything and nearly running into that other person. She becomes quite embarrassed with herself and her cheeks turn bright red. She looks down at Gig and begins speaking to the ferret.
What do I do? How do I explain myself? I mean, I just met Kris and I don't know that other person. They are going to think I'm crazy!

Still hoping to be able to make a clean escape from this strange situation, Bertie was a bit disappointed to hear there were so many free rooms and that any stranger passing by could get a room easily. Well, there wasn't any reason to leave now. Noticing that the man was introducing himself, she almost sighed but was able to keep her feelings hidden. She was never a fan of shaking hands. It made her nervous and she avoided physical contact whenever possible. Her voice may have betrayed some of her reserve.
Oh, yes, nice to meet you, Kris. You may call me Bertie.
Taking Kris's hand, Bertie's felt soft and light as she barely shook his hand. However, she did linger for a moment as their hands touched before pulling away. Maybe he was telling the truth about not having done any harm to the woman. There was little that gave Bertie the impression that he was a bad person. Listening to his explanation, Bertie's eyebrows furrowed a bit as he discussed the history of this place. Was it that old? She did admit the building had a very strong alluring power. Perhaps this was the reason. Well, she might as well explore now that she was already here. However, she would much rather go about on her own.
I see. Would it be alright if I take a look around on my own? You probably do not want to give a second tour so quickly, and you might be more helpful outside with that woman.

Kris was happy to see that Berte seemed to believe what he said about D's strange actions. He admitted to himself that it was a strange situation but he certainly had no reason to lie about it, there was nothing to hide.
Happily, he shook and released Bertie's hand, he noticed she lingered a moment and he allowed it politely before moving his hand back to rest at his side.Nice to meet you Bertie. I hope you find my inn to be to your liking. If you want to look around the building, feel free to do so. The rooms will all be locked though, so if you want to have a key to a room I should show you to one of those first. However, if you just want to walk around the place then feel free. I do have on request though, if you should go upstairs, please heed the sign that suggests you take off your shoes. This is not because the floor is holy ground or anything but you will certainly enjoy it more without them. Once you have a room, you may keep your shoes there or put them in the locking holder at the base of the stairs, it only opens with your room key. He glances behind him to the stage then to the stairs, then the door, and finally back to Bertie.I guess you are right, I should probably check on D, she is one of my customers after all. You want to look around while I check on her?

Bertie was really hoping that Kris would find it acceptable to let her explore on her own. She found that it was easier to get the sense of a place if she didn't have any distractions, and people were distractions after all. So, naturally she was pleased to hear that he had no problem with her request. Smiling slightly in appreciation, she listened to what Kris had to say about going upstairs. It didn't seem odd to her to take ones shoes off when entering a sleeping area. That was no problem at all, but she didn't plan on looking at the rooms just yet; they didn't really concern here. A bed was a bed. Bertie watched as Kris looked around; he seemed to be thinking about something so she didn't speak just yet. After he turned his attention back to her, she found it was appropriate to speak once again.
Then it is settled. I will not be requiring a room key just yet. That can wait. I will just show myself around and get a key when you return. I hope you find that you can help this D person. Thank you for your hospitality.
With that being said, Bertie nodded, almost bowing, in Kris's direction and wasted no time in beginning her exploration. First, she decided to take a look around the lobby area. From where she entered, she could see something like a stage and an area that leads to some offices or something of that nature. She assumed there was some kind of kitchen around as well, since she could plainly see an eating area. She heads to the stage first.
((I'll add to her exploration whenever I have the time. I'll just have some fun with her for a bit. ^_^ My plan is to interact with Twisted when she is done with her tour.))

((I'll add to her exploration whenever I have the time. I'll just have some fun with her for a bit. ^_^ My plan is to interact with Twisted when she is done with her tour.)) Kris nodded in acceptance of this plan. The inn was designed to be a place for people to visit on their own so a tour guide wasn't really needed. The self-assured manner in which Bertie carried herself was a refreshing feeling to him since many people he knew seemed worried to even leave their house.Very well then, I will go check on her and see what I can find out... I am not really good at this sort of thing but I suppose I could work it out. If you have any questions, let me know. See you soon! nikki_is_me D can hear Kris running after her and she knows he just wants to comfort her, to make sure she is okay, but she can't help but to run away from the memories. I mean, I just met Kris and I don't know that other person. They are going to think I'm crazy! With that being said, Kris sighed and then walked out of the building. He rehearses the words he would say to D many times in his mind so that he would hopefully not be dumbfounded when he actually tried to speak. He wanted to appear concerned but not so concerned that he would appear to be a dangerous man. Furthermore, he had no desire to be a knight in shining armor who gets the girl, that was never his bag either.
He strolls around the perimeter of the inn and sees the garden he had been speaking to D about. He could tell it was a garden now that he looked at it but that didn't mean that he was particularly skilled at gardening. When he saw no sign of D there, he began to think back to the discussion of the areas around the place. Then he remembered the other place... the beach.
Sighing heavily at the fact that he would have to look around on the beach, Kris quietly accepted his fate. He hoped that this place did not have a habit of attracting many women with strange running away habits. He had seen those in the movies but he didn't believe people actually did that sort of thing.
He slowly makes his way down to the beach, continuing to rehearse what he would choose to say. He was also trying to think over what could have set D off, he knew he recognized her from somewhere but he didn't remember hearing about the old assistant manager making any enemies.
When he finally reached the boardwalk, he saw footsteps leading down to the beach and there he saw D, sitting on the ground. At first, he wasn't really sure if she was able to hear him and suddenly all of his rehearsing seemed unnecessary. He cleared his throat and spoke just loud enough to be heard.D, Hey there! Umm... if you wanted to end the tour early, you could have told me so. Seriously though... are you quite alright? Did I offend you? I certainly didn't mean to.

D lets out a dry, emotionless laugh and responds, but doesn't turn to look at you.
Yeah... I'll be alright. It wasn't you at all.
She pats the sand beside her, letting you know its okay to take a seat if you want. She waits, judging her response by how you react.

As Bertie examined the stage, she found that while it appeared new on the surface, once she touched it she could tell it had seen quite a lot of history. It wasn't ancient, but through contact it had experienced just as much. The thought of a band playing here made her smile softly to herself.
Not seeing much of a reason to linger in this area, Bertie took note of what she saw and moved on. Her first instinct was to head in the direction Kris and the woman--she heard Kris refer to her as D--came running from. Perhaps she could get a sense of what had happened. Walking down the hallway, she noticed two doors. One had broken letters on a plaque. Wondering what it once said, Bertie nears it and finds that as she touches it the door is easily pushed all the way open. Not wanting to intrude, she remains outside and glances at the other door. She assumes that is an office of some sort as well, for Kris? He did say he was the owner, right? Or the manager? She honestly couldn't remember if he said at all. Shrugging, she took another look at the door with the faded letters. It definitely felt like the woman. This must have been what made her upset. Interesting.
After deciding once and for all that Kris really hadn't done anything to harm the woman, Bertie felt comfortable enough with her decision to stay here for the night. Moving on down the hallway, she noticed that something smelled like a pool. It would make sense for an inn to have a pool, so when she came upon it she was not surprised. She wasn't very interested in artificial water, however, so she didn't linger there.
The last thing she came to was of more interest. It was a library or sorts, and it smelled much better than the pool. She entered the room with the intention of browsing the book collection, but she found that the sight of all these books filled her with a powerful sadness that stopped her in her tracks.

Did this place bring back memories you were not fond of?

After her first statement she starts to ramble and goes on for several minutes before she cuts herself off, her cheeks turning the same shade of bright pink her glasses are.I think I need to go lay down, get some quiet time in for myself, and let it process, and I think I passed someone on my way out the door, didn't I? As D begins to speak, Kris slowly becomes more and more comfortable. His attitude softens a little. He wasn't really good at this sort of thing but he would not let it cause him to seem uninterested. When D mentions Bertie, Kris chuckles slightly.Heh... well, the lady who showed up actually still found herself interested in staying at the place despite the strange situation. I offered to provide her a tour or show her to a room and she declined saying that she felt it was better for me to check on you and she would just explore the downstairs until I returned. After this, Kris approaches D a little closer and puts a smile on his face, it isn't forced or fake either. D can tell he really is sincere. Hey... we all have memories we aren't proud of. But that's what I admire... every single living person in the world is a canvas that is being painted on every day. Sure, there might be sections of the canvas that are colored darkly but eventually, the other colors around it make it not seem like such a dark spot. Many masterpieces have several layers of paint that may not seem to fit but once the work is complete, you see that it was all part of the artist's design. Kris smiles and breathes out slowly before he starts his next sentence.Sorry, I may have spoken too frankly... but I don't want you to think me an unkind man, I am not... or at least I don't try to be. If you need some rest then please, come on back to the inn, you have a room after all. You can go rest there and catch up, it's better than sitting out here covered with sand... right.?

Well, I'm glad I didn't scare her off.
D chuckles and nods, starting to brush the sand off her pants as best she could.
I really don't like sand... or the beach much. I'm not sure why I came out here... Maybe it was the ocean, the sheer power she holds. I guess I'm in the right place with the right company at the right time... for memories to come back, I mean.
As she talks the color begins to fade from her cheeks and she relaxes a little, and even manages a small smile. She stands there for just long enough to take in Kris' features and body language.
You weren't too Frank, I just... have issues to deal with, to get myself in order.
Feeling more comfortable with the whole situation, she gestures toward the inn.
Shall we head back?

Kris laughs happily as he starts to walk up the boardwalk with D.Well, again, if you need ten baths, you have unlimited bath water at the inn. Of course, I wouldn't recommend taking 10 baths in a row, I think you might look more like a flush red prune after the third or fourth one. Heh. He continues walking calmly alongside D and he grins slightly at being told his words weren't too bad. Those had always been one of his biggest challenges with social order but maybe he just wasn't in a good place to practice.Oh? you really think so? Heh... if you knew me back in my college days you would probably disagree. I couldn't talk my way out of a wet paper bag back then. Maybe my time in the business world changed things a little. His words hang lightly as the two arrive at the door of the inn. He politely opens it for D and then follows behind. After a precursory look, he finds no sign of Bertie.Well here we are... oh, and FYI, since we didn't quite make it there, my office/room is the last one past the other room. If I am not around the main area, that's a good place to look for me... say... what do you intend to do now? Kris realized his words might be a bit confusing so he added more to them. That is...er... do you plan on heading up to your room? Or do you want to do something down here?
