Her smile nearly sent Arrin off his feet. She just looked so happy talking about the tribe. It was amazing to see her have such joy for every member of the tribe and such dedication to it. Then she narrowed down his question with one of her own.
“Ah.. well that is what I was wondering. I-I understand if it’s too personal though.” Arrin looked down and commenced to digging not looking up for fear Cari could see his blush. Moron I shouldn’t have asked that.

Cari blinked, considering. Until Arrin had asked she realized she hadn't even really thought about romance or anything. It was startling. Just because she had a load of energy and could seem oblivious or dense didn't mean she didn't flirt or develop crushes. But that hadn't happened for awhile. Why was that?
Cari ranked her brains, trying to remember when she'd last considered a fling of some kind. Not for awhile! Not since.... She felt herself starting to blush. Ever since Cari had met Arrin, she hadn't really thought about other males.
"You first," Cari responded, trying to use the response as a distraction to give herself time to gather her thoughts and supress the blush.

“M-me?!? Oh well.. I ah..” Arrin felt like swallowing his tongue. He wanted to just sink into the ground and disappear. How could he tell Cari how he felt when he didn’t even know if she would consider looking in his direction. There had to be a way to find out, but he had already asked her and she was waiting on him!
Could this get any worse. It’s not like he could lie to her and tell her otherwise. The truth was so very obvious and yet so hard to bring to head. He took a deep breath and tried hard to steady his racing pulse and mind.
“There is a-a vixen that I do like like. A lot. You see it’s ah hard for me to talk about this because.. Well.. it’s difficult to talk about because i.. ah.” Arrin couldn’t continue.

Cari felt her heart sink a little. So Arrin did have someone he liked. Well it was only to be expected, she guessed. He was just a sweet, amazing fox, and handsome to boot! Any vixen would have been lucky to have him; a small twinge of jealously went through her.
"Oh," she said, trying to keep her voice light and carefree. "Does this vixen have a name? Do I know her?" She did her utmost best to keep any traces of jealousy out of her voice and to make the questioning seem like she didn't have any other....ulterior motives behind it. She could only hope she'd succeeded.

Cari sounded funny. Arrin had no idea what it was behind her tone thought. In any other fox he would have perhaps suggested jealously or being upset. That just didn’t seem possible thought. This wasn’t some random fox. This was Cari. She was always happy and cheery.
Arrin bowed his head and blushed deeply. “Y-yes you do know her. You see Cari.. The vixen I like like and have like liked for a long time now.” Arrin still looked down and was terrified of what he knew he had to say or he would never get it out. “It’s you.” His voice was barely a whisper. Still it took all of his strength to get it out.

Despite the fact that Cari kept telling herself she was not going to get jealous, she couldn't help it. She barely managed to keep herself from puffing up a bit when Arrin mentioned she knew the vixen in question. Now she was fond of all the vixens she knew, but she didn't really think any of them were quiiiiite good enough for Arrin.
And she was resolving that she most certainly would not say as much to Arrin, nor hunt down this vixen and give her a talking to, when Arrin finished speaking. Well! That certainly took the wind out of Cari's sails!
She deflated and sat there with her mouth slightly open a bit, feeling curiously light-headed. Oh yea, she forgot to breath. She took a breath of the cold mountain air and sat there for a moment, gathering her wits. "Oh," was her intelligent response. Okay, apparently she needed to gather some more wits.
"Oh, well. Yea. I-," Cari looked down, feeling the blush coming back in full force now. It was frustrating, actually, because for crying out loud it wasn't like she was some innocent maiden! Yea she'd never mated, but she'd had the occasional fling! So why fumbling for words and feeling as akward as this was her first time all over again?
In that, her answer suddenly appeared. It was a first time. For surely no one she had ever dated before had been as precious to her as Arrin was. "I like you too," she finished, trying to bring her gaze up from her feet but only half-succeeding in that it fixated on a pine tree rather than Arrin.

Arrin risked a peek at Cari after a moment. She was staring at him. “Yes but as you said. I know but you only..” Arrin felt like just jumping off a cliff. “like me. And you like everyone. So it’s just.. I’m sorry I brought anything up. I know you probably have someone you like so uh.. I’ll leave you alone. J-just forget I said anything.” Arrin took a few steps back and more or less tried to hide himself with the pine tree that he was next too. He didn’t think that he would find any plant close to the tree but he just wanted to disappear.
“Oh ah you never answered my question.” Arrin tried to talk around the tree. He didn’t have a direct line of sight to Cari. He was hiding from her. Hearing her talk about another fox that she would like would be painful. Yet seeing her face light up would just kill him. He hung his head and kept his ears open so he wouldn’t ignore her. He had asked and wouldn’t ignore her. That wouldn’t be fair to her.

Cari sat there for a moment, brows knit together in a bit of confusion, and then understanding dawned on her face. After that understanding came a slight bit of annoyance, and she got up and followed after Arrin.
"Dummy! I meant I like you as in I like like you," she said, blushing even brighter scarlet. Really, it was so unlike her to get this flustered over something.

Arrin looked at Cari since she had followed him. He took a step toward her hesitantly. “Really?” He went to take another step and tripped over his own legs. He ended up face first in the snow. He looked up at her with snow caking his muzzle.
“S-so you’re not in love with someone else? I thought that since there are so many handsome foxes around that tribe that..”

Cari couldn't help but giggle. "There's only like three other men in the tribe! One's mated, one's a major personality conflict with me, one's got two vixens after him. Trust me, there's no one else that could hold my attention." She smiled warmly at her shy friend. Or, besides friend, she should say hitherto unknown love.

Arrin smiled. “I-I’m glad. Not that I’m glad that there is no one more interesting for you in our tribe than me, but glad that you are interested in me.” Arrin felt like he had wings and could fly. Cari liked him. There weren’t other males that interested her. His tail was waging as he whipped the snow from his face.

Cari giggled, then made a mock fierce expression. "I better not see you lookin' twice at another vixen then! Well," she amended, not wanting to seem like a control freak, "not with googoo eyes."
Her short, curled tail wiggled a little. What did that make them now? Dating? Mates seemed like a giant step after only just confessing. "So, what are we now," she asked, speaking her thoughts aloud.

Arrin dramatically covered his eyes with his paws. “I would never dream of it!” He peeked out from under a paw. “I’m glad you added the googoo eyes part because it would have been very very hard to walk around with my eyes shut.”
He blushed. He loved Cari and only her, still he didn’t want to rush her or make her feel pressured. “Mmm I guess we are a dating pair? ” Yes that did sound much less demanding that simply jumping into being mates.

Cari nodded. "That sounds like a good place to start." She tilted her head. "Should we start talking about what we're looking for long-term, like family and all, now or by the third official date?" She couldn't help but giggle a little; the thought of being super formal with Arrin (with anyone, really, but especially Arrin) was just hilarious!
